I didn't really have the time to write a review, but I'm going to take the time, now.
I don't know if Mr. Deacon has a contract with Amazon that allows folks like me to simply post how many stars to give a book. That's between him and Amazon.
What I do know is that this page said a written review was, "Optional." Turns out that was B.S. I rated the book as I felt it deserved, and I couldn't leave. I was forced to write an "optional" review. This is it.
The story in this book, series of books is a bit different than most Western stories. It features a family after the Civil War in Reconstruction Texas. It portrays many Union officers like they actually were. Vicious, evil, and bent on punishing the Rebels to the maximum. Acting not like citizens of a reunited country, but as conquerors of old - like Genghis Kahn and other similar barbarians.
Not every Union officer. Some really were professionals and worked at helping to reunite our country. There are two in this series who were Officers and Gentlemen.
I enjoyed this book and recommend it highly - definitely worth my 5-star rating.
I Didn't like Amazon's sneaky, underhanded tricks. They reminded my of the corrupt Union officers in Reconstruction Texas.
There is every possibility Amazon/Kindle will censor this review, claiming it somehow was in violation of one of their censorious rules. That's O.K. I am going to take screenshots of the entire review and post it on X! if necessary. I am really violently opposed to censorship, less pornography aimed at children too young to know they are being exploited and groomed for a future civilized parents don't want.
Even through it was a quick read the story was very enjoyable. It's nice to read a book with no foul language and a Christian code. The characters are well developed and you can see what's going to happen. During my early life there were lingering feeling of the civil war. You could buy blue or gray infantry hats and Confederate flags. You could hear the call for the south to raise again. This work of fiction does give you and idea of the reconstruction of the south. Think of what you might feel like in their position.
Will Bently, the subject of this 4 book series📚 leads his Cowboys into the brush wilds of Texas post civil war. They round up a thousand head of maverick cattle to trail to market. Union soldiers and disaffected rebels cause problems along the way. Young Orphan Kip, brings his two sisters to live at the Bently ranch. Lots of action and confrontation keep the book on pace. I got this e-book from amazon with kindle unlimited
I repeat HOW IS IT POSSIBLE that John Deacon could write a series where the third book is just as good as the first and second books? This book is outstanding! I loved every word of it! I’ve loved the entire series so far and can’t wait to read the fourth book. Will Bentley is such a great character! He’s tough, smart, and kind. A real hero! I really wish I could ride for the brand, The Walking Gallows!
Loved Provider 3. These are all characters I love spending time with, and there is nothing better than a good, clean, honest, sometimes funny, action packed western series to spend the day with. Will and Maggie are wonderful characters that grow with each story. Looking forward to starting Provider 4 and concluding the series. Texas rising again…
Readers of Providers 1&2 will appreciate this interlude for family time and rebuilding just a little part of Texas. It wasn't rebuilt by renegades and hooligans, but by hard working men and women. Still plenty of action as Witherspoon has the money and influence to get Will killed. Hopelly you enjoy this one as much as I did.
Another excellent read by a great author. A very realistic with the times story of a man who is moving heaven and earth to provide for his family in the reconstruction era in North Texas following the Civil War. Since I’m from the area, of course, I would be extremely interested in this Western novel, but John Deacon’s style and content also fits nicely with my own likes.
I have read many westerns but yours are at the top of my list. The characters are real and interesting. The story moves along at a good pace. I didn’t find any spelling mistakes or language errors amps never a character mistake. (I’ve found many of these in other western books). Keep up the good work. 🫢
This review is the first I’ve ever written. I’ve absolutely enjoyed the Provider Saga series. Each book had left me thirsty for the next. I am looking forward to the fourth book. Each of your books have been well written and well edited. Keep up the great work and I excitedly look forward to reading more of your books!
The powers that govern reviews didn’t like the truth, and would not allow my last review. This series has portrayed reconstruction in Texas in a way that should awaken the minds of us that know that history should make us smarter. Thanks Mr Deacon for telling a story worth reading in this series, write on sir!
This is another good book to read. I really enjoyed reading this book because it gives you a look into the pass. It tells you about how hard life was for people who fought for the South and tried to go home in peace. Some man didn't want peace on either side and caused a lot of problems for everyone.
The unfolding story of a man who wanted to live in peace after his time in the uncivil war. Evil men stood in the way. It’s an excellent tale of all the struggles and challenges experienced to protect his family, friends and his home. It’s a bit surprising how it turned out.
All of John Deacon’s books are fun to read! The good guys prevail and the bad ones get their due. It all revolves with exciting action and interesting twists and turns of plot. You grow to love the characters and look forward to seeing how they rise above their problems while gaining the love and respect of the people around them. I’m always looking forward to the next book in the series!
The author continues to create an exciting story of love for family, friends, and Texas. A story about hate, greed, and revenge. A story which covers the post civil war era of survival and reconstruction. A story of people coming together as a community doing hard work with the vision for a better life.
Excellent series, 2 am but I can't stop now, on to #4
This was an excellent book. I won't spoil it for you. Many surprises. Just remember, sometimes you have no choice to do something you normally wouldn't to save many lives. War! Highly recommended for all adult and teenage readers.
Binge reading John Dragon's The Provider series has made for an enjoyable weekend.
Just finished up The Provider 3 and ill start on 4 just shortly. Since all of the previous villains have met justice I'm Trump anticipating who will try to stand against the Walking Gallows crew and the Brantley family next!
Heart felt thanks for another triumph of writing.i really enjoyed this trilogy of western life .and for a man like myself being a born Scot from Glasgow .scotland.and could not be further. From the wild west .I felt like I was living the dream of being a cowboy. Thanks so much
Post civil war Texas sounds like times are back to that corruption, but Will was a man up to helping Texas rise again. Maybe there is a Will Bentley around now to help this torn country to come together and wipe out corruption once again. Good story standing up for right, no matter the odds. Book 4 here I come.
book 1 was interesting Book 2 proved to be enlightening Book 3 taught me the goodness of cattlemen and their love of a good honest woman. i cant wait to read the book 4 conclusion.
Book 4 - each book gets better. Book 4 i believe will knock will and Maggie’s life out of the ball park.
John Deacon continues to be one of my favorite western writers. In Provider 3 Will and Maggie still face problems from Sully Weatherspoon's father, who wants Will dead and uses his money and influence to try and make it happen.
John Deacon's books keep getting better and better. The Provider 3 is no exception. I could not put it down and read the entire book in one day. Now I am anxious for the release of The Provider 4.
Will Ang Maggie continue to buy surrounding abandoned farms. Will and his crew make another gather and cattle drive. Weatherspoon blackmails a high ranking General to have Will killed, but the plan fails. Will continues to help Texas rise again.
This will keep you glued to your seats. Excellent writing with lots off cowboy action. Includes a little romance and helping each other after the War. I loved all three books and anxious for the fourth.
I admire stories with good characterization and that the characters in them act on their values. It is hard to believe that everything worked out so well for everyone (except those with evil intentions).
Not terrible. There was a trick to invent tension, which the author also also employed in book 2, that put me off. That is, the author ends a chapter with an evident calamity, but starts the next chapter revealing that the event was nowhere as serious as the reader was given to believe.
Great read. Great series. Western excitement at its very best
I enjoyed these first three books in the series. Post Civil war Texas action and intrigue filled many hours of delightful reading. Keep writing Mr. Deacon, can't wait for book four.
John Deacon can spin a tale of the west that matches any of the acclaimed western writers. The Provider Saga offers strong characters of grit with engaging plots and plenty of villains. Great series.
There is plenty of action and the characters are good. The reading was easygoing but you didn’t want to put it down so you just keep reading on and on. Keep up the good work
The story was so good. Filled with good and evil. Will was the best and wealthy men and politicians the worst. Good adventures and loving families. It was all so great to read all the good and bad . Looking forward to reading number four.
Thoroughly enjoyed TBE continuing saga of Will and the further development of the other characters in the saga. I'm looking forward to reading the fourth installment.
