Everything you Need to Know…and More

If you are interested in fly fishing, this one has it all. All the basics are laid out…from having the right rod and equipment to picking the right flies to how to cast. It also discusses how to tie the right knots and how to fish safely. There is also excellent discussion on conservation and how to release to protect the fish. I tried fly fishing once and struggled with it. This book would have been tremendously valuable. The author is clearly an expert and his passion comes through on each page. He is also a good writer and the book is well organized and easy to follow. Even advanced fishers will likely enjoy this one and will pick up a thing or two along the way. Great job!

Good book on the basics of fly fishing. This book covers all aspects of fly fishing from selecting a rod, reel, fly line, leader and tipper to which knot to use. One nice thing about the book is, there are QR codes to show the reader how to tie about a dozen knots and some of the most common flies.

I loved how the author romanticized the art of fly fishing as a metaphor for different aspects of life. This drew my interest into learning more. The inclusion of QR codes throughout the book provided additional visual resources that are extremely beneficial to the reader. I appreciated the emphasis on safety and protecting the environment. I did not realize there were so many different social media sites for the fly fishing community and was particularly intrigued by the volunteer water quality assessment -Science on the Fly. This is a great book to educate beginners about fly fishing and to get them excited about all of the associated possibilities.
