Rate this book
Slapton Sands is inspired by the true story of one of America’s worst military disasters of WWII, which was covered up and the truth concealed for over forty years. We discover what really happened through the eyes of two star-crossed lovers, a young American sergeant and a beautiful English girl doing her part for the war effort, and return to when the world was on fire and freedom depended on the actions of those brave souls called to serve. But even against a backdrop of war and fear, one thing proved stronger, love. This is the story of that love, and of the heroes who paid the ultimate price saving our civilization.

This is an excellent novel, meticulously researched and clearly written with love and reverence. The characters are well-written and compelling. The romance between the American soldier and the young English woman is very sweet and touching. There is definitely something for everyone in this novel - military history, romance, the triumph of the human spirit. Richard Blade also includes real photos from the Slapton Sands training operation, which are absolutely fascinating to see. I enjoyed this book immensely.

I couldn't put this book down! It's an amazing story of actual events that took place in 1944 that we didn't know about until the 1980s. The author weaves the tale in such rich, concise language that you are drawn into the story and can practically feel the sand and smell the salt air. I was spellbound by the story and the inclusion of declassified documents and photos of what took place in that small English town. If you even have a passing interest in WW II history or just love a great story, this is the book for you. I can't wait to read it again.
