MARY is the perfect tool to use against the man who took his sister, Lily. What better way to exact retribution from Governor Hagen and force him to bring Lily back, than to steal his own daughter and threaten to sell her as a sex slave, too? But, even the best laid plans don’t always go smoothly. Slade ends up falling for his captive, and is faced with a decision that might just cause him to lose the one thing he doesn’t want to let go.

SLADE is every bit the animal he portrays. Dominant, dark, unbending, and possessive—her own personal predator. Mary can’t help but be drawn to the soul deep darkness in him. It calls to her like nothing she’s ever felt before.

When her father bends to Slade’s will and releases Lily, will Mary be allowed to walk away and follow her father's plans to marry another, or will Slade make her a captive to the dark…forever?

Warning: This book contains very graphic violence, disturbing situations, dubious consent, and very strong language.

2 STARS for the dark romance aspect
3.5 STARS for the actual story and plot

Before I jump into a little bit about the plot and my thoughts on that I need to clarify something about the genre classification and why that was 2 stars for me. So the book is categorized as dark romance and that was the mindset I had when I went into the story. While I did see this as a twisted, batshit crazy (in a good way) story, unfortunately, this book failed to live up to dark romance standards for me. For one, Slade was the nicest captor I’ve ever read about. Where’s the physical and emotional breaking of the captive? Let me tell you, there was none. I like strong heroines and Mary was one so she had tons of grit and fierceness but she wasn’t treated like a captive at all, more like Slade’s queen. Another thing was, Slade was so intent on making her his (dangles her virginity in front of her and treats her so delicately) and the two of them fell in love in a snap. Aside from the erotic, BDSM-nature of their relationship, I honestly couldn’t understand how they fell in love. I wouldn’t call it Stockholm Syndrome either; Mary’s way too strong for that term to take effect.

So if you are reading this book with the intent of getting a dark read with a mindfuck, it’s not. I would call this romantic suspense with erotic (bondage, knife/blood play) and some dark elements. If you don’t read much dark romance then maybe this book will hit a 6 or 7 on a 10 point scale. Keep in mind I do read a lot in this genre and the term is so subjective and thrown around a lot the meaning is almost archaic.

THE STORY

description

Right from the start, the story got my attention with the powerful prologue. It told me a lot about Mary’s character: a fierce, independent woman whose scarred past left a permanent mark on her, and how her dark, sadistic urges were born. I really felt for her and what she went through as a teenager and so could understand her sexual proclivities. All in all, this woman thrived on pain but was also in pain when no one, not even her family, bothered to comfort her in her dark times.

While vacationing with her sister and brother-in-law, she meets Jordan, her father’s business partner’s son and at first glance, Jordan knows Mary is different.

description

His sexual tastes are somewhat similar to hers and he can identify with that. I know that the male lead isn’t Jordan but I couldn’t help falling for his character. His tastes are dangerous, to the point where it’s life-threatening but he truly cared for Mary and I appreciated that fact. He also stood up for her and protected her in various situations and that just made me fall for him more. So aside from his eccentric sexual tastes, there was really nothing I could pick on him for and that made it hard for me to accept Slade as the male lead and Mary’s potential love interest.

Slade’s on a vengeance spree. His sister Lily was taken and sold into sexual slavery and so he’s retaliating on the man responsible by taking his daughter, which is Mary. At first contact, the two of their personalities clash. They may be kindred souls in the erotica world, but holy hell, they’re like fire and ice in everything else!

description

I really liked the book in terms of plot, the pace, and writing style (stellar!!), but there were some plot inconsistencies and grammatical errors and typos that bumped my rating down. For example, There were also some typos that didn’t break my reading flow, but were noticeable enough.

The ending of the book really didn’t work for me. As you can see earlier in my review, I am a fan of Jordan and when things didn’t work out too well (that’s putting it mildly) for him, I was ready to blow a gasket. Plus that final action scene where everyone is in the room and bam everything starts flying was absurd. I can only guess that it panned out that way so things could be wrapped up nicely and Slade and Mary could be together again.

As this is the first book I’ve read by the author and liked, I’m definitely not opposed to reading more from her.

A copy of the book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Mary Hagen presents the picture perfect public persona as is expected of a Governor's daughter while hiding secrets that could prove to be embarrassing for her father's political and business career. For the most part she left alone to attend college until 'Daddy Dearest' latest plan is to have her date his closest business associate's son Jordan Brighton with the goal of a future marriage that would merge the two families.

Mary's sister gets in on the action when she invites Mary & Jordan to a mini vacation cruising along on the west coast USA on a luxury yacht. A budding romance starts to form when all of a sudden the yacht is attacked and Mary is abducted.

Waking up Mary finds out she's being held hostage by Slade Robert who's sister Lily had been sold in a sex trafficking ring by Mary's father. Slade makes it known that Mary will suffer the same treatment as his sister until Lily is returned alive. In the event she's not, Mary will remain his.

Warning: This book is a dark erotica capture fantasy/kidnapping scenario story that includes S&M BDSM play including knife, blood, and extreme element play. Consider yourself warned.

I've read dark/taboo reads and I've read dark/taboo reads. This I consider a middle of the road dark themed read with the understanding that in my reading history I've read books a whole lot more intense and disturbing. That doesn't mean this book doesn't have it's moments (which is why I included my personal warning), just that for seasoned readers of this genre this won't have the same end result opinion. Just sayin.

This was a new to me author who has a good pulse on BDSM to pull off an adrenaline heart pumping book that features the S&M side of BDSM in a positive light. Different strokes for different folks people. As long as things are consensual love is love. Yes, I know there are some circumstances where this is questionable in this story but.......

What really worked was portraying Mary as a submissive who had inner strength. So many times I've heard that submissives are generally weak and victims of abuse. Mary knew what she was and knew her own side of the power spectrum as a true submissive. It would take the 'right' man to realize what she needed and provide it to earn the privilege to be her 'Master' even in the circumstances she was in. The only aspect I didn't care for was that her inner strength crumbled at a point when I felt she needed it most. But it's easy to be a backseat quarterback to author's story line/plot decisions. No two readers are alike anyway so others may not feel in a similar fashion.

As for the secondary characters. A bit of choppy flow in how this added to the core characters and story line. Of course I have my favorites but the evil/bad guy elements worked as I found myself hating them thinking evil thoughts and various creative decisions on what should happen to them. Happy to report that for at least one of the characters I got my wish though I would have liked to have enjoyed that descriptively a little more. hehehe.

I've gone over the dark elements and characters more because the book description blurb generally covers the story so I wanted to comment on the fact that this isn't a sweet or romantic slanted read. There's violence, sadomasochistic BDSM, psychological mind game situations, and not intended for the faint of heart reader.

I've read this one sometime in August last year (2017) and well, since it was summer and vacation time, I never wrote a review.

anyway, this was amongst the first books, if not the very first, written by Alaska Angelini (whose work I came acquainted with while reading her fantasy/dark flick Marco Delacroix and than I continued following her dark and darker work), and it's different in a way that shows how much Alaska developed into her "dark" side since her first work.

so, in short, this is a story of revenge and well, Stocholm syndrom in a captive/captor relation, it was good, a bit rushed in pace and not providing detailed description of certain background situation, but all in all, a solid read.

First off, heed the warning! This book is considered erotic romance, but it's definitely a dark erotic romance because of dubious consent, choking, knife/blood play, mention of rape, heroine is a virgin and anal sex. Okay, let's get on with the review.

When Mary was thirteen years old, she was sodomized by her bodyguard. Her father, a man with political ambitions, swept the incident under the rug and life went on. To her family she was a disgrace and an embarrassment. At seventeen, she snuck into a BDSM club to relieve her insatiable need for dark, twisted sex. With pain came pleasure. By twenty-two she'd done a good job of maintaining a facade that she was a good girl with no problems. Until the day she was kidnapped.

Slade had a similar upbringing in terms of having parents who couldn't care less about their children. They died in an accident when he was twenty, leaving him to take guardianship over his younger sister, Lily. From there he worked hard and became a self-made man. When his sister was kidnapped by sex slave traffickers, he saw only one way to get her back. An eye for an eye, so to speak.
I thrived off of what I was about to do. I'd break her. She'd be obeying my every wish come morning.

The book was written in the first person point-of-view from both Mary and Slade, which I really liked. I felt their raw emotions and I always knew what they were thinking. It was probably a very good move for this dark-themed book because the reader could tell whether or not they would find the hero redeemable. Armed with the knowledge of Mary's past, and the way she felt about herself and the risque actions she took were hers alone, therefore it's impossible to judge her for the things she needed to cope. I could understand her urges even when they felt uncomfortable to read. You'll have to put your personal feelings and judgments aside before you immerse yourself in these two protagonists and what makes them tick.

The story began with some back story on Mary before seeing her in the present. The dilemma that was her life unfolded during a sailing trip with her sister and brother-in-law along with a man she was being set up with, Jordan. It took a while for them to warm up to one another, but she quickly realized that he was a little bit like her. Right before she could go through with something she may have regretted later, she was kidnapped.

Slade was a more complex character than Mary. I think he was more of a Sadist than a Dom. He wasn't squeamish about giving pain, but even in the most intense scenes, he was controlled and never did anything Mary wasn't willing to accept. It's my guess that he pushed her so hard because of who she was and the situation with his sister.
Terror was what I needed from her at the moment. It was imperative that she fear me.

The chemistry between them was there, and seemed to grow the more time they spent together. In the beginning he was dark and cruel, but moments would slip through that hinted at a good man underneath who had been driven to extreme behavior. He was used to being feared, but Mary was the first person who didn't react the way he had expected, and it threw him for a loop. I really liked Mary's feisty side in dealing with him, although I think she secretly enjoyed goading him into losing control.
Her eyes rolled sarcastically and she looked off to the side. Sputtering went off in my brain. Had she really just done that? It was almost like my mind couldn't accept the possibility. No one had ever disrespected me while I was trying to dominate them. People feared me.

I wasn't surprised that within the realm of being a wealthy CEO, he was also a bit of a vigilante. He had no trouble killing bad guys where the law would fail. Those few scenes were a little graphic but nothing too terrible. I think I loved him even more for being such a bad ass.

There were some twists I never saw coming, but I loved the suspense of how Mary would fare when faced with them. I barely held back tears when she had a meltdown. Up until that point I was loving the story and the character development. But then it went a little downhill from there. My problem was Mary, and she made a few decisions that baffled me. I also didn't understand why she put up with Jordan and his own brand of high-handedness when she'd only known him for less than a week.

**Mild spoiler ahead**

The Bottom Line

I really enjoyed this this story from new to me author Alaska Angelini. Slade was a deliciously dark (anti) hero, but he wasn't a cruel man for cruelty's sake. I loved the unconventional romance blossoming between them, and I do think he helped her tougher side emerge. I couldn't put the book down once I started. It was paced well. The sex was mostly rough, but consensual and so hot! If you pick this up, have faith. They do get their HEA.

This can be read as a standalone since there was no set up for the second Captive to the Dark book titled Blake. I will definitely be looking out for that one when it comes out. Ms. Angelini is an author to watch. The story may go through some revisions before publication, but I'm just reviewing what I had in front of me. I recommend it.
The V that was exposed from the towel hanging at his hips made my mouth water and it only angered me more. I jumped to my feet and snatched the rope. "I'll do it my fucking self."

"There's my girl." His hand grasped my throat and slammed me onto the bed. The muscles constricted and I took a deep breath as best as I could. "You're a fighter, Mary. I like that."

4 Twisted stars.

I've read "Watch Me" from this author and I loved it. And there's no denying that this book got me hooked! I loved Mary's strength and determination, despite her horrible past where she was at the young age of thirteen. Then it happened again---10 years later---where she was at the yacht owned by her sister's husband for a trip to California coast. She was kidnapped by the hero, Slade---who lost his sister Lily to the arms of human traffickers---and was brought to an isolated place. Sadly, Mary's father, who's governor and running for president, was involved behind the trafficking of sex slaves (not only sex slaves, but illegal arms and drugs as well). And Slade decided to kidnap the governor's daughter to bring back his sister home with him.

"You're not going to die, Mary Hagen. Not today. You're father has something that belongs to me. Until he gives it back... You belong to me."

At first, I was kinda confused how this novel fell to the dark romance category. I thought that the story wasn't as dark as any other I've read. It was messed up, with all the kidnapping involved, but what had me questioning this book was the hero, Slade. I just didn't see him fit as hero into the dark side of romance. I remember him saying that he wanted to break Mary, wanted her to feel the pain his sister Lily must've felt in the hands of her captors. Instead, he found himself caring for her. And as days go by, the attachment he felt for Mary grew deeper, like there was a bond forged between them that wouldn't go away. It kind of bothered me at first. I guess I just wasn't used to captors like Slade who were kind and nice to their slaves. But as I was reading, I found myself liking Slade and thinking that yeah, I guess this book is just as twisted and fucked up as any other dark romances. Which reminds me, not every dark romance has its own anti hero. Slade was different. I really do find him nice, sweet, caring, and he wanted Mary all to himself, even her own blood..

"The warm tang of Mary's blood took over my senses like the most addicting drug there was. I wanted more. To transfuse myself with her innocence and dilute my life of sin and debauchery."

I loved how deeply attached Slade was to Mary, to the point of carving his name on her chest with the use of a knife in the first few chapters of the book.

"The red jagged marks surrounded by blood called to me. SLADE. Right there across her chest for the world to see. My mouth turned dry just looking at my work. With the bright lights shining down on Mary, she looked spotlighted. Displayed, just for me. Like a woman on pedestal with all the attention being sucked in to her. And, soon, it would be."

Once he learned that Mary enjoyed the sick, twisted ways he does to her, he finally staked his claim and decided he's determined to keep her as his and wouldn't let her go.

This book is definitely not for those who are averse to kidnapping, violence, dubious consent, bdsm play, anal sex, knife and blood play, and master-slave theme. I really enjoyed this. Although there were times that I was confused with Mary's behavior later in the book, I still liked her character. I guess I was just as fucked up as she was for loving the dark side romance :) I definitely loved the author's writing style. She had me drawn right from the beginning to the end. Now, moving on to the next book...

Mary is the daughter of the Governor. After a traumatic event, physical pain becomes her only outlet. At first we think she’s going to get her pain from Jordan, a man obsessed with cutting and hurting his women, but then we meet Slade... Slade’s sister Lily has been abducted and sold into sex trafficking. Mary’s father and Jordan are the only way to get to her…

Angelini really is a master of dark romance!! Just like all of the other books I’ve read by her, this one is deliciously depraved and beautifully disturbing!! Not your typical romance or love triangle, this book was unpredictable, crazy sexy and putdownable!!!! The only problem with this book is that it needs a good proofreading!!! It’s obvious that this book has gone through spellchecker, but there are lots of errors a computer can’t catch. There were a lot of commas where commas were not needed, commas missing where they technically should have been, and commas where there should’ve been a period or vice versa. There were lots of missing words, extra words, and the wrong word (for example: “Not even with close.” and: “Water dripped down from by body.” Regardless, typos did not detract from how much I enjoyed this book!!! I can’t wait to read Lily’s story!!!

I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised with this author's work. This is the first time that I have read one of her books, but it most certainly won't be the last. She did a great job on a genre that I simply adore. If it has the words Dark, twisted, abducted, kidnapped, or stalked, I'm in. Yeah, I know, but I'm twisted like that. This wasn't uber-dark, so really I would recommend it to those who are into dark romance, or those who are just dipping their foot in the wading pool. This really fits whatever your level of dark depravity may be. Great job Ms. Angelini and 'write on,' girl. You write and we your fans will buy them; because you gained a new fan today...

4.5 Captivating Stars

It seems like all I have been reading lately is Dark Romance so when I was asked to review this book I was excited because I love them, but I also worried I wouldn’t be able to stay interested because of how many I’ve read in a row.

Well I was wrong to worry.

“Don’t you see what’s so apparent to me? We’re perfect for each other.

Without you, I’m not me.”

This was the first book I’ve read by Alaska Angelini and it did not disappoint. Slade (Captive To The Dark) got me right from the beginning. Mary is a damaged soul who has been suffering for years from a rape that occurred when she was just thirteen years old. A man whom she trusted, a man who’s purpose was to look out for her and protect her violated her so horribly that it left her with tastes and cravings that one wouldn’t consider “normal”.

Raised in a very privileged home where “daddy” can’t risk such a scandalous lifestyle being outed he works hard to cover up Mary’s past. Mary has always felt like the outsider of the family. Wealth and privileges are just not something she is comfortable around. It’s more for her perfect model-like older sister. But that doesn’t stop Mary from trying. After years of rebellion she feels it’s time to make things right. She wants to please her family and will do almost anything to make them happy and to erase the disappointment in their eyes when they look at her.

Slade is a man of means. He is determined and goes after what he wants and never loses. So when his sister, Lily, a girl who has been under his watch since childhood is kidnapped sold as a sex slave, all he has in mind is to get her back at whatever means necessary.

An eye for an eye, right?

Well, to Slade that means taking from the man who took from him and he has his sights set on Mary. He will use her for his pleasure and if he doesn’t get his sister back soon, he will do what they have done to Lily. He will sell her.

“You have thirty days to locate her and bring her back to me. If you don’t, Mary will be sold to the buyer of my choice. In the meantime, your daughter will partake in what I assume my sister is experiencing. She’s mine in every way.”

But when Slade discovers that the girl he thought as spoiled, weak and innocent is actually a fighter and has similar tastes as him, he can’t help but be captivated by her. She is unlike any slave he has had before and he will not let her go. He will do anything for her. He will sacrifice anything to make her happy and make her whole again.

But that’s not the deal. If he gets his sister back he has to let Mary go.

But what if Mary doesn’t want to leave? Slade may have kidnapped her but he fulfills a part of herself that she knows will never be able to be sated by anyone else. She sees the good in Slade, the man who only wants his sister back and she will do whatever she can to make that happen.

“I want you to mark me. Carve your name into my chest, like you said.
Let my father see what he’s done.”

Her dad is not only horrified by what he sees his daughter is going through but also by what secrets Slade can uncover about him and his perfect life. He agrees that he will do everything to get Lily back to him as long as Slade gives Mary back to him. He has promised her to another man. A man who will look pasts all the “damage” that has been done to her.

“You’ll get no pleasure from Jordan. Not anymore. You want to know why?”
Embers of fear began to glow from deep within and I couldn’t speak.
“I’ll tell you.” Slade’s fingertips traced down my spine, making me shiver.
“It’s because I've poisoned you, just as much as you have me.”

Mary is torn. Does she stay with the man who she knows she will crave every day for the rest of her life, the only man who will ever truly be able to give her what she so desperately needs. Or does she return to her life and follow through with her dad’s plans to please him, to try to find the acceptance from him that she has wanted for so long. Will she even be allowed to choose, or will the decision be made for her?

Slade owns her. He refuses to let her go. He knows Mary feels for him like he does her but he can’t hold her against her will forever, can he?

This is a very gruesome story. It's a Dom/sub book but it also has a lot to with revenge, which in turn, means there are several graphic bloody parts. I was literally covering my eyes in parts and then peeking through my fingers so I could continue to read. I know, that doesn't make sense but that’s what I did.

Even through all the abuse and blood, there was a great love story. I loved Slade, a lot. I loved his dominating side and his desire to mark Mary has his. But Slade also had a softer side. It was nice to see his passion for Mary; he was in awe of her strength and feistiness. I also really liked and admired Mary for the first ¾ of the book but then I was so annoyed by her. It’s like she switched from a strong fighter to a weak pet. I just couldn't understand some of the choices she made and her reasoning’s for them.

Overall it was a great book of two kindred spirits coming together and finding the peace they both so desperately long for at a time neither of them expected to find it.

I can’t wait to read more by Alaska Angelini.

P.S. I LOVE the Cover!

Review for Captive to the Dark - Slade by Alaska Angelini

Slade is the first in the Captive to the Dark series by Alaska Angelini, I would like to note that these books can be read as standalone novels, however, read them all… they are AH-MAZING. Just saying, as a professional blogger and all. Especially read them if you like the dark… and like the dark twisty hero to actually be a hero instead of a complete villain. Le sigh.

Mary is the daughter of a powerful politician. Everything she thought she knew about her family is about to change and life as she knew it would never be the same.

Slade is desperate to find his sister, no matter what the cost. When his search uncovers an evil unlike any other he gives the enemy a taste of their own poison. The one thing he didn’t plan on was her.

“Get out of your head and give yourself to me. I want all
of you. Every fraction of your mind.”

Let me just tell you now, the chemistry in this book is off the freaking charts hot. I couldn’t get enough of Slade and Mary, oh Mary, she had such a bad hand dealt to her. Seeing how she survived it all made my heart bleed for her. Because I don’t want to give any of the major plot points away, it would just ruin the story for you, I’m going to keep this review short and sweet.

If you like dark erotica, Slade is definitely a book you need to pick up and I guarantee you will devour it. Alaska Angelini has this amazing way of spinning a tale that is unlike any other. The intricate way her characters connect and the small details that end up playing a huge part in the plot of a story just boggle the mind. She is an author that I will buy anything she writes, period.

Five darkly delicious and well deserved stars and five drenched panties for Slade… he can keep me captive any day. A certified MUST read NOW!

So...wow...just wow!! I loved this book. It's dark, erotic romance at it's best. I couldn't have asked for a better story. This was an intense read that I just couldn't put down. This story had no cliffhanger but is the beginning of what I can tell is going to be an awesome series. This is the first book I've read by this author and now I want more :) I don't say this about many books, but this is a story I know I'll be able to go back and re-read and enjoy it just as much as I did the first time.

Mary has been through alot already in here life and things just go from that to worse. She's kidnapped by Slade who is after revenge and his sister. But once they are together, the whole situation starts to shift and they are drawn to one another. The story progresses very well and is unlike other dark romances that I have read. These two characters are just made for each other and their story just flows so easily from page to page. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a good, dark, erotic read.

I didn't really enjoy this book at all. I was expecting a dark romance about a kidnapper falling for his victim. What I wasn't expecting was the completely messed-up main characters who are both pretty sadistic. I would have been fine with Mary and Slade's messed up relationship and BDSM/blood-and-pain-equals-pleasure tendencies if there was more to the book but sadly there really isn't. I couldn't get why Mary made the choices she did. Why did she feel like she had to go back to her father and Jordan? Why couldn't she just tell them to get lost once her and Slade got Lily back? I didn't get what was going on in her head and Salde wasn't much better. They both spent way to much time thinking lusting after each other and not enough time actually processing what was going on around them. The story had potential and could have been so much better if the plot was better developed or if the characters just had some small sliver of normality you could relate to. I wouldn't really recommend this book unless you like really screwed up characters and erotic BDSM stuff.

So, this is a dark romance and does have some crazy knife play involved. And while I can't imagine having a knife used on me, it works for these two damaged souls and fit perfectly in the story. I really enjoyed reading about Slade and Mary and am definitely gonna read the next book. If you like a dark romance with a good plot, this may be a book you want to try

4.5 stars. Another Alaska winner. I was captivated by Slade and Mary. Their pull toward each other, their connection, their pain, their desperation. It was all glaring like a beacon from the pages. Several times, especially when Slade and Mary are separated, I deeply felt Slade's despair. Even their kink and S/M was extreme. I'm really drawn to stories that have that much emotional depth.

My slave was the one for me. No doubt. Mary was the darkness to my monster. The blood to my blade.

There were a few parts of the story that I struggled with. I didn't understand Mary's hell bent focus on leaving, her fear of embracing what she had with Slade, or her willingness to let her father control her. This is a plot point that I can never wrap my head around. I can't imagine someone needing to please a parent so much (especially a bastard parent as these always are) that they are willing to be their puppets. To the point of being forced into marriage. Mary's situation was even more difficult to buy than usual because she wasn't even financially dependent on her father. Plus in all other ways she was such a kick ass, strong character.

Still, I was reading frantically, completely engaged in these character and their plight. It was a great dark read. I don't get how some people don't see this as dark. Just think of the Thomas scene and/ or the chest carving! I absolutely love this author and everything she writes thrills me.

4 and a half stars for the fantastically raunchy, intensely hot alpha man yumminess, aggressively addictive and deliciously written book - Slade Captive to the Dark!!

So, before my review, I will preface it by telling anyone and everyone who's interested that if you're into books with no romance, no HEA, and just pure aggression and asshole-ism, maybe pass over this one. But, if kink with a side of sweet is your cup of tea, I highly recommend it. Slade, Captive to the Dark will be a nice, juicy addition to your collection of goodness.

So, let's get down to the nitty gritty. Mary has had a dark past. It still haunts her to this day, and because of what happens to her when she was the tender age of thirteen, she's into some kinky, dark shit. Boarding her sister, and her sisters husband's boat, was supposed to be an enjoyable time for her, at least she would try to make it be. The last thing she thought when getting on that boat is how severe her life would suddenly change, and there would be no looking back.

Meet Slade, a whole lot of dominating, intense, finger lickin'-good, man. Slade has a mission, his sister was kidnapped by Mary's father, the Governor, who runs a sex trafficking ring, and he will stop at nothing to get her back. He kidnaps Mary with the intentions of making her become his own personal sex slave. An eye for an eye. Never in a million years did he think Mary was so strong, how deep her desires ran, how much they fueled him, and how much he would come to care for her.

Throughout this whole situation, there are truths that are uncovered, lies that are called out, feelings that threaten everything, and it is more than Slade nor Mary ever thought possible. All Slade wanted was his sister back, never did he think Mary would be the piece of his missing puzzle, one who could give him exactly what he wants, no matter how dark and deep those desires ran. It was only supposed to be a month. One month with Mary, which gave him enough time to make his demands and get his sister back. Now with his sisters safe return finally on the horizon, he now realizes he does not want to let Mary go. He wants both his sister back AND Mary by his side.

Captive to the dark is a wild ride of a book. It's one that I knew I was going to love just a few pages in. There's characters in this book that I loved, liked, and ones that I absolutely despised. When a book can make me feel such emotions for fictional people, that just goes to show how good of a book it really is. I was utterly consumed by it, and could not turn the pages fast enough. Mary was anything but the typical kidnapping victim, and in a way that was sort of refreshing to read. She was strong willed, bull headed, but also kind and caring and actually helped aid Slade with his kidnapped sister. And Slade, oh my, he's just an orgy of emotions, a pleasant contradiction and one hot fucking alpha male.

So, to wrap this up, I really loved this book. I never read anything by this author but that will now change. She hooked me in, made me apart of the world she created, and I loved every moment of it. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book to anyone who craves that whole kidnapping/dark erotica genre, but this also is accompanied with a nice, extra zing to it as well. Definitely a re- read in the future too. :)

I just finished Slade and wow, just WOW. This was far beyond what I thought and just got so much more. Mary has had a tough childhood which effects her adulthood. It has caused her to only be able to really feel unless she gets hurt. (BDSM). It totally understandable. This is how she copes. She hasn't really put for effort to find a guy to fulfill her needs with working and being in school but the opportunity arises when she is spending time with her sister and brother in law. He brings Jordan. He can tell what she needs but before more can come about her Mary is kidnapped by Slade who is out for revenge. You see, what you find out is that her whole family is into sexy/drug trafficking. Slade sister Lily is one of those girls that are taken. Slade takes Mary against her will to try and save Lily. But what he doesn't expect is to fall for her. She doesn't expect to fall for her captor either. You will have to read and see how their story unfolds.

Amazing! I never expected this. It's so dark and twisted but so yummy. There is a great plot to it and was just amazed how engrossed I became. I didn't want to let it go. I love when that happens! The characters have so much depth to them. To me their voices just blended so well together. I wouldn't have asked for anything more from Alaska! You my lady are at the top of my list :)

Slade so was freaking yummy. He's so alpha. He puts the D in domineering of that I have no doubt. If I was Mary I would have been quick to drop to my knees to give him what he wants. I can just see the rewards or hell even the punishments!! I just loved Mary. Such a strong and feisty girl. She had to be to deal with what happened to her. I just wanted to take it all away. I can tell you that even though bad things happened to her it brought her to that moment with Slade. They to be helped each other really heal and they are better together then apart. One of the things that makes this story great is their banter IN an OUT of the bedroom. Either way, it was hot, just freaking scorched the pages. That's one of the reasons why I didn't want to let this go!

You so seriously have to read Alaska's books. They will captivate you, you will get so immersed into the story that you will just not know where you begin and the books end. You care about these characters and that is the most awesome part. Love that!

Story 5
Sex 5
Overall 5+++

4 Captivating Stars

Review coming soon!

With so many captive stories out there it's hard to distinguish the good books versus the bad books. Slade is not going to be everyone's cup of tea because of the consensual knife play; however, I had no problem with it. Personally, I didn't think it was a big deal. In the context of the slave/master relationship I felt it fit in fine with the story line.

Slade didn't turn out to be much of a kidnapper once he learned Mary enjoyed the same kind of play he does. In order to get his sister back though, he needs to keep Mary until her father can bring her home. Appalled by what her father and sister are into, Mary will do anything to help Slade. Growing up with a father who turned his head when Mary was sodomized by her bodyguard at the age of thirteen, she knows first hand how cold and calculating her father can be.

I loved how compatible Slade and Mary were sexually. It was extremely erotic and hot. The story wasn't dark itself, but I'd say the sex was more dark than anything. Slade's desire to make Mary his was so domineering and arousing. Towards the end of the book when Mary had to make a choice between pleasing her father and picking Slade, I found her character to be weak. I thought it should have been an easy decision, but everything worked out well in the end.

Slade is definitely risque, and I enjoyed reading every word.

Two lost individuals, both slaves to our desires, and feeding off of them in all the wrong ways. Perhaps fate brought us together to battle our demons against one another. A fight of wills meant to either make us or break us.

When Slade Roberts' sister is taken and sold into trafficking, the only way to get her back is to kidnap the Governor's daughter, Mary Hagen. Getting Mary proves to be quite easy as Slade has watched her for some time; but getting his sister, Lily, back proves to be more difficult than anticipated.

Mary has always had a dark side- one thing I really enjoyed about this book was the "innocent" heroine was truly as depraved as the anti-hero. She had a silver-spoon life that included tragedy at a young age as well as hiding her true self for years. Mary is impossible to dislike but she isn't as squeaky clean as the press views her.

Both Mary and Slade had such an intense dynamic and one that is different than other dark romance books out there. There was a certain push-and-pull, or spark, that ignited almost immediately despite Mary being quite the brat.

I found the plot intriguing and very unique, I truly couldn't predit what was going to happen! There are some lengths the characters go through that I could have never guessed or would have anticipated. Overall, this was a great read! One I should not have waited so long to finish! I desperately want to read Lily's story now especially but will have to catch up to the end of the series! 5 stars xx

In the dark we'd found each other, and there we'd stay, relishing in our wicked tendencies, pushing the bounds of pain and pleasure. Thriving in a love that not just anyone could find.

Graphic violence...dubious consent...disturbing situations...yes, this book has all that and much more. It was pretty intense...started off very calmly and looked like just another story of a woman being set up to date someone of her family's choosing and then it gets into the kidnapping for exchange. I liked the basic idea and for the most part it lived up to the promise of a dark romance...but somewhere in the middle things got muddled and went from one kind of book to another. I can't really say too much without spoiling it for those who have not read it yet, but let's just say some of the actions of the H were questionable and did not make sense and once the H and h become more than kidnapper and hostage, things fall apart and become unbelievable.
On the whole it was a fast paced, sexy and very violent story of self-abuse and self-hatred between many damaged individuals. Dark and edgy and stomach turning in parts.

Uhhh wowsa...talk about dark, ugly and sexy at just the right times.
Mary sure has gotten herself into deep waters. Suffered a horrible thing in her past that has lead her to be the person she is today. Being the person she is today, is the main reason she survives the whole ordeal without being more broken then she already was.
Slade, powerful and capable of unmentional things. Mary is now his slave. A love story of dark boundaries that I truly enjoyed, even through some not so pleasant parts.
Plan to read more by the author for sure.

Good love story with a dark twist. i like Mary & Slade together. They're perfect! Wasn't really into the sex scenes. i mean they have great sex, it is missing something. Even though i'm not a masochist, i can get into a good scene if the characters are really into it. Don't have the words i need to express what's missing.
The end was a little bizarre also. i'll leave it at that.
i've given the story Four stars because of the rest of the story. If you can get past the sex, the love story is good.
