Friends to lovers storylines are some of my favourites. I like that they knew each other for so long. The relationship reminds me a little of Monica and Chandler from Friends. (Sandy is very much a Monica, but Jason is not really a Chandler.)

I LOVED the start of this, but it did windle some for me. I wasn't too fussed on the heroine's hang-ups, but I understood them because of her character and the storyline. The drama at the end; I think, was overblown and unnecessary, especially as the book was so realistic up until that end point.

Phew, the sex... HAWT! And realistically so. It's adventurous, fun, spontaneous, kinky... WITH dirty talk. I loved the scenes.

'Chat' was funny and heartwarming, it had a beautiful friendship interwoven. And for that reason, I really loved it.

Despite the few issues that I had with this novel, I thought that overall, it was a pretty good read. I found the storyline to be very realistic. I'm a sucker for "friends to lovers" narratives... and for me, the 26-year friendship between the two main characters (Jason & Sandy) was the highlight of the book. Furthermore, I applaud the author for incorporating the theme of domestic abuse into the storyline. Author Theresa Rite portrays the many different ways in which domestic abuse can occur, & she emphasizes how important it is for victims to remove themselves from their domestic circumstances and to acquire both counseling & a means of protection. Through the use of flashbacks, the reader is able to detect the early warning signs in Sandy's relationship with her longtime boyfriend (Jack), as well as the various methods that Jack employs in order to control, intimidate, confuse, hurt & dehumanize Sandy. The use of flashbacks also allows the reader to witness the depths of Sandy's friendship with Jason— a friendship which began when they were in the 2nd grade & only continues to get stronger as they approach their mid-30's. By juxtaposing Sandy's relationship with Jack & her relationship with Jason, it becomes abundantly clear to the reader very early on which relationship is rooted in love & which one is based on dysfunction... which relationship can potentially bring Sandy true happiness & which one will undoubtedly lead her towards mental & physical destruction.

Overall, a fairly satisfying read.

*3/5 stars*

*** BTW, a special thank you to Yasmine for bringing this novel to my attention. :)

Another case of: WHY! WHY! WHY!

MCs are friends since childhood, they are so close. I believe in friendship between men and women only if they respect boundaries of their respective genders: meaning we can't sleep in the same bed or shower together or sit in each others laps.
Suffice to say that there is NO hard limit between MCs so of course they'll feel lust between them. They tried dating for a very brief moment when they graduated high school but they were afraid it's going to ruin the ease and the flow of their friendship so they never had sex but they exchange DAILY the word "I love you" and they mean it in the emotional sense.

They work at the same place. They talk to each other first thing in the morning. They come to each other's places uninvited and they have cuddling sessions when one of them is sad.
And now they are 35 fucking years. MMC married then divorced and FMC is with an abusive boyfriend who's super jealous of the MMC that he hit the FMC and proceeded to rape her in order to assert his dominance.

MMC is described as cute, gentle and romantic. FMC is usually the bossy one in their relationship but deep inside she wishes for a dominant alpha (her words, not mine). MMC became that alpha for her when he rescued her from her boyfriend and took incredible care of her.
He even took her mind off things by hot unconventional sex (restraints/ gags/ blindfolds and spanking). He never tried any of those things with another woman and he gave his all to her.

But she was emotionally a wreck. She still misses her abusive boyfriend. At the same time she's afraid if he'll ever corner her and hit her again. She swears that she loves the MMC but she's not ready for a relationship so she pushes him towards the weirdest character in the book.

Some woman who's a smut writer texting MMC and flirting shamelessly with him. After his divorce, MMC wanted to use her as a rebound and FMC started helping him to write sexy messages but after the abuse thing he wanted to focus on the FMC and didn't give any thoughts to the writer. But FMC kept pushing him towards her at the same time, she was playing out every smutty scenario of that author with MMC (really confusing)

Not to mention that the abusive bf couldn't really quit. Every time we get the MCs happy he would come back with some nefarious scheme. I was like "die already, dude" until he did die at the end of the book with a bullet to the chest when MMC finally killed him.

I think it's so sad that we focused so much on FMC wishes and mental health and MMC was practically a genie out of the bottle for her. After he kills someone and that's no small feat, the author directly jumps to the epilogue five years after and that's stupid.

OH. MY. DAYUM!

Rite...what in the HELL are you doing to me?!?

I had the pleasure of being the FIRST to read this book!! Okay, maybe not FIRST, but I finished it first. LOL! I received at ARC of Rite's first novel, Chat and I loved it!

Sandy and Jason are lifelong friends who have been through everything together. They have been friends since second grade and have seen each other through relationships, marriages, divorces and everything in between. Their break-up ritual alone is enough to make you laugh.

Hell!!! This book had me laughing at their banter...because there was a lot of that...and blushing. OMG...the blushing.

Jason isn't your "alpha" male. But he is ALL male! He knows that Sandy can take care of herself and doesn't need a hero, so he doesn't play that role. Instead, he plays the role of loyal friend, confidant and admirer. What can I say about "Brew" that doesn't give things away?? He's gorgeous (that's a plus). He's smart (WOO!!). He's witty (because that is sexy as hell!). He's kind.

Sandy is a smart, says what's on her mind, kind of woman. (I like that) She's in her 30s, knows what she wants, and makes no qualms about letting people know that. That is, until things in her life take a turn. With Brew's help, Sandy's life changes in ways that she only imagined and her best friend is there to help her along. The question remains, is he her friend?

Just when she thinks that maybe there is something more, his growing bond with Carissa Steele, the romance novelist, throws everything out of whack. Being the friend that she's always been, she's determined to help him get the girl of his dreams, while denying herself the thing she really wants.

MUST ADD TO YOUR TBR!!!

This was a light and enjoyable enough story! For those who want a friends to lovers read this could work!

Sandy and Jason have been friends since second grade. Now in their 30’s they work together, Jason being Sandy's boss. Sandy is in a relationship and lives with Jack, while Jason is single. When Jason is starting a relationship online, Sandy is determined to help him with the flirting. Everything changes between them when practically they have sex phone.

What comes next is how their relation progress from friends to lovers with some drama and a little twist.

With an ok storyline “Chat” has a little bit of everything, drama, steam, friendship and love. The end was predictable of course, but I enjoyed it, even if is not very remarkable.

I really liked Jason. He’s so sweet, caring and patient, but Sandy sometimes was soooo annoying… Arrgh!!

The main characters banter was fun to read and really enjoyed their connection! There are also some really great sex scenes. With some kink and dirt talk they are really hot!

Overall "Chat" by Theresa Rite was a fun, cute read!

Okay the teaser's had me wondering how exactly we were going to get the steam from two best childhood friends (usually something more along the lines of sweet) but holy H this book has some major steam!

I love the idea of these two childhood friends taking 26 years of shoulda and finding a way to combust together. Many of the instances leading into the steam were reminiscent to my own life (a little). I mean the "chatting" causing some major sexual tension I could understand. Heck I met my husband online so of course there was flirtatious "chatting" for us.

Theresa builds a story that you don't have to worry about love triangles because both main characters have reasonable cause not to be with others. Some might think that things between Sandy and Jason move really quickly but that is the beauty of falling for your best friend of 26 years, you have already done the dating so to speak, you already have the comfort, now you just need to explode into the passion that has been suppressed by denial.

This book has a great storyline, drama, love, sex and moments of tender hearted awe. I loved the ride, loved getting to know Sandy and Jason, and darn it I loved how it got me squirming!

I am just going to say, the scene when he writes on her, I was laughing, smiling and freaking pissed too! So many emotions invoked within this story. I couldn't put it down and read it quickly just to find out what would happen next.

Great debut novel for Ms. Rite and I can't wait to read more from her.

First read for me by this author. I liked her writing style. This story is funny, very sexy and has elements of sadness.

Sandy and Jason have been best friends for 26 years. Jason has recently divorced and Sandy has been with her boyfriend Jack for three years and she's still waiting for him to ask her to marry her. Jason has started chatting to an author on facebook and Sandy helps him with his flirting. One night practicing sexy lines over text messaging with Sandy lines become blurred and they both get turned on.

The beginning of the book was very funny but then we get to the part when Sandy and her boyfriend Jack split up. This has themes of domestic abuse. Jason is there for Sandy and they begin a sexual relationship. The sex in this book is hot! Jason's nickname for Sandy is 'boss' as she's quite the boss in their friendship but in the bedroom there is no doubt that it's Jason who is the boss!!

The chemistry was easy to feel between these two. There are a few ups and downs for Sandy to get over Jack and to realise that her future is with Jason. It's a romantic read with a bit of drama thrown in. My reason for dropping a star is I felt some of it was a bit unrealistic (no spoilers).

I'm pleased my GR friend recommended this book. I'll be reading more from this author.

I love Jason. He was a sweet alpha male. The friendship between Jason and Sandy was cute. In the first 30% it went good. But after that the drama was getting on my nerve. I didn't like Sandy. She was so confusing!
The dramas in the middle were fine though. Not too much and not too annoying. Written in dual POV. Overall it was a good reading

Holy Hell but this was a great read....There is nothing more fulfilling for me as a reader to discover a new and talented author, and this is exactly what happened when I picked up this little gem of a book.

It was not just a great read, it was a phenomenal read....I literally sat and read this in one sitting....The characters were superb, the writing outstanding and the story line will catch you hook line and sinker.

I love stories about friends to lovers and this one is one of the best one's out there.

There friendship spans 26 years and the story keeps going back and giving you little snippets into their friendship. I loved how the author did this....

Jason was all sorts of alpha yummy and you will indeed want to add him to your book boyfriend list...guarantee!!!

Cannot wait to see what this author has install for us next...

J&G: We had a bit of a like/no so like relationship with Chat. Whilst we really enjoyed some aspects of the story, there were certain elements that drove us to distraction. We do enjoy good friends to lover’s story and Jason and Sandy (Alexandria) really did share a unique bond that had lasted over 26 years. Their friendship was believable and you wondered how they had never gotten together before now after sharing so many memories throughout the years and comforting one another through their many ups and downs.

“I’ve seen you every day for twenty-six years. But now…I really see you.”

Jason was a darling and it was his character that kept us flipping the pages. We loved his humour, his easy going nature and boy couldn’t he dirty talk up a storm and show his dominance in the bedroom, on the sofa, against the wall…well, you get our drift……! Wow! When these two sparked, they certainly sparked!

“If you cross this line, we can’t got back.”

It was Sandy’s character that caused us to feel a little disconnected to the story at times. We found her constant acceptance/rejection of Jason irritating, her back and forth indecisiveness gave us whiplash and she did have the tendency to grate on us somewhat. Although we understood she carried scars and trust issues brought about by what had transpired in her last relationship, it felt as though Jason always bore the brunt moods and trepidation. Despite his best intentions, Jason just couldn’t win with Sandy and this resulted in diminishing our interest in their story at times with Jason being so eager to please and Sandy continually sending out mixed signals.

Jason was certainly the savior of the story for us together with other aspects of the story which we did enjoy, particularly the sexual and emotional awareness between Sandy and Jason, the past snippets we were afforded assisted us in understanding the relationship between the characters and we most definitely felt the need to follow their story through to the end. The epilogue was a pleasing conclusion and this standalone is recommended for fans of friends to lovers themes.

I received an ARC of Chat in return for giving an honest review. I have read a few books that are considered erotica and they never had any substance to them. I was aware that Chat had some very erotic scenes so I was prepared.

The story revolves around Jason Brewer and Alexandra (Sandy) Quinn, who have been best friends since second grade. Now in their mid 30's, they work together, Jason being Sandy's boss. Jason married another woman in what would be a very brief marriage and Sandy lives with her boyfriend, Jack, who has issues (as in abusive behavior towards Sandy) and is not too thrilled to have Jason in Sandy's life. Sandy moves in with Jason after she receives a beating from Jack. And not the first time this happens.

Jason had read a book on his ex wife's Kindle that she left behind, by a younger author, Carissa Steele, who piques his interest. He tells Sandy about Carissa and how he had sent her a chat message, which in Sandy's eyes, the message could have used a few more sexy visuals. Sandy tells Jason HOW to send a sensual chat message and things heat up. Sandy sends Jason a HOT chat message and they act out what Jason instructs Sandy to do. (Both are amazed at each other.) Shortly thereafter, Jason receives a box of 'toys' (erotica) from Carissa, telling him that these are from her book. Jason and Sandy, being the best friends that they are (and each know deep down that they love each other) use some of the toys from the box on each other, as Jason is planning on meeting Carissa at a book signing. Sandy finds herself falling for her best friend in ways she didn't know existed. Same with Jason.

So much more transpires and I am leaving out a lot, but you get to know the characters, and learn about their lives and personalities. Many books with erotica go nowhere....just sex, sex, sex. Chat is a great story, with love between two life long friends, and happens to have erotica added in the mix.

I enjoyed the book and this author's writing. She tells a story with real characters who have depth, a storyline that goes somewhere and explores the world of erotica in which it does not feel like a dirty porno flick.

Jason and Sandy (Alexandria) have been best friends since second grade. They tried dating once as teenagers, but didn’t want to lose the strong bond they have as friends by bringing romance into the relationship. Now they are in their early thirties, Sandy has been with Jack for three years. All she’s ever wanted was to be married and have a family of her own, but Jake may not want the same things and he may not be the one for her anyway. Jason was married briefly last year, but it only lasted four months. Now he has become interested in an erotic writer and has been chatting with her on Facebook. When Jason receives a “help me” text from his best friend, the course of both their lives will forever change.

“You’re too good to be true. Sometimes I wonder if you’re just an imaginary friend that I made up, all those years ago, and I’m sitting in some white, padded room somewhere, rocking back and forth, dreaming all of this.”

Chat is Theresa’s debut novel and I have to say she is on her way to being a number one erotic author. I couldn’t think of a word to describe this book, so I had to make one up. Simply put this book is unbelevamzalingtastic!!. It’s not just a hot erotic read; it’s a good love story as well. There are many aspects to this story; the dynamic between the friends, the impact that has on their romantic relationships and the issues Sandy must deal with. It’s a beautiful story that is made that much better with the hot s-e-x scenes. I give Chat 5 stars and I ran out of hands to put down my pants for this one!!! Looking forward to reading more from this new author.

“That’s my favorite place in this whole world, Sandy.” “Where?” I breathed, the ache stirring deep in my stomach. “Inside of you,” he murmured, . . .”

My Goodreads friend let me know this was a freebie on Amazon and I was super excited. The beginning of this book was a little unconventional. I felt like the author skipped ahead a few chapters. The blurb was a little confusing, but I could tell it was going to be about a childhood friendship that eventually becomes more. I was really surprised by how much I like this book. The story had its own drama but it wasn't written as crazy dramatic or deeply emotional. Sandy and Jason have bend best friends for 26 years and both are in love with each other, but Sandy is afraid of moving forward because she doesn't want to ruin their friendship. Jason wants to be with her, but is afraid if pushing her too far, too soon. An unfortunate circumstance brings them together and they go forth on this journey to discover and reveal their feelings for each other. Carissa's involvement became a catalyst for Sandy and Jason's romantic relationship, but I feel like her presence wasn't really needed after the first half of the book. This story was sometimes fluffy, sometimes sexy, sometimes poignant. A great no nonsense read.

I picked this up as a freebie on Amazon yesterday and was very pleasantly surprised! The story is about Sandy and Jason who have been best friends since the second grade. Fast forward 26 years and they are still best friends and their relationship has changed A LOT, as in add in some hot steamy sex online, in the office, the shower, a trucks stop!!! Whew ;)

This was a very good friends to lovers story that was sweet, funny, romantic and more importantly believable!!! The only downside for me was the insecurity of Sandy and how she kept pushing Jason away and then grabbing hold again. I realize that was supposed to be her reaction from the trauma of her relationship with Jack but it still annoyed me.

Wow new author but I am reading more! I am used to more alpha hero’s than Jason/Brew but in the bedroom he is alpha! Slight bdsm but more experimental than lifestyle but it was still smoking! There is domestic abuse in beginning and mention of rape for people with triggers. Liked how author has them going to counciling if too.

The boyfriend was a douche and luckily she didn’t go back to him. Both Sandy and Brew are normal characters with flaws but see that they can be themselves with each other and don’t have to change or be someone else. And the chemistry was hot, dirty talk chats on fb, FaceTime, and phone calls all were smoking hot!! The flashbacks to when kids were good as well.

I will definitely read more by this author.

I usually love friends to lovers themed books but this one fell really flat for me. I feel like it was trying to cover too many different story lines rather just focusing on one.
The beginning was quite confusing. I had to keep checking to see if I had started a book in the middle of a series or if there was a prequel. I needed more of a backstory. Once I got over that, I did start to enjoy the book but then certain events happen and I just got more frustrated. I found the heroine to be contradictory and unbelievable. I know the author tried to justify the character's actions but I just didn't buy it. I did like the hero, but once again, some of his action's I really just didn't understand.
Overall, this book just wasn't for me.

Just didn't work for me. It the heroine was too much of a hot mess for me to like her. Ok really the entire story line was a hot mess with a bunch of things thrown together, stirred up and than tossed out to see what would stick. I started skimming around 40% and completely jumped the the end at 60% but really shouldn't have bothered.

I LOVE THIS BOOK. I. Love. This. Book. LOVE IT. It’s erotica but…sweet? How that works, I’m not sure but it does and I just…squee!

This is the story of Sandy and Jason, best friends since childhood. He’s fresh off of a divorce, and she’s in an abusive relationship. They’ve always had feelings for one another but never acted on it…til now. It’s the ups and downs of their relationship, and their story of trying to navigate from best friends to lovers and beyond.

These characters were fantastic and just made for one another. I love all of their interactions, whether it’s flashbacks to their high school years or being in the moment with them at the current time. I also love love loved how dialogue heavy this book is. You’re not all up in their minds. They talk things out…or f*ck (can I say that in a review? I don’t know but I’m putting it there) it out or argue it out. You see what I’m saying. There’s no wondering what’s going on or if they’re feeling the same way as one another. You see it all play out and I LOVE that. They’re so passionate about one another and you feel it 100%. You also know from the first time you see them in the same room how they feel about one another, even if they aren’t saying that yet. It was just the most perfect example of best friends turned lovers. They clicked.

Oh and did I mention how HOT this book is? No? Okay, yea, this book…whew! So yummy. I don’t do erotica very often. I’m the mushy and emotional reader. I like to cry and have my heart broken. But Theresa drew me in with this one and it was so, so good. It was exactly what I needed. The last few books I’ve read have been a bit fluffy and/or dark. This was right down my alley this weekend and now I still can’t NOT think about it.

I will say…considering we’re supposed to write honest reviews… The flashbacks sometimes confused me. It felt like there needed to be a bit more separation between current and past. That is my one and only complaint, and even that wasn’t a deal breaker. It’s not hard to follow along with the flips in time, it just kind of seemed confusing a teeny tiny bit.

Overall, I LOVED this book. It’s such a sweet story of two people deciding to just go for it and letting themselves be together. It was steamy, angsty, romantic, and everything we love in our romance novels. I can’t suggest Chat enough. Theresa Rite is a favorite and I can’t wait for more.

We get to meet Sandy and Jason in Chat, they have known each other since they were just kids and have been best friends from that day forward.

While Sandy and Jason have always avoided being together in a relationship (although they did try when they were in their teens), they have been each others support with everything. Sandy is in a relationship that isn't healthy, but she keeps thinking that it's not as bad as it was. She hasn't told Jason about everything that has happened, but he does know some things.

While Jason is starting to explore a relationship with someone he has met online, Sandy thinks that he might need some experience that might help him along. What neither one thinks about is the fact that they are opening themselves up to each other, and what might happen once they cross that "line".

This story has so many hot moments, that when I read the phone text scene, I immediately wrote Theresa, and said "OMG!! That phone chat scene HOLY HOTNESS!!!!" Let's just say that while I have read quite a few books that have made me think my kindle might melt or that I would need to be mopped up from a puddle on my floor, that scene was just something else for me.

I completely fell in love with Jason, he is sweet, caring, and one of the hottest bbf around. I would love for him to send me some text messages. Sandy has had a rough go when it comes to being in a relationship and sweeping things under the rug that should have been dealt with differently, but who am I to judge what is or is not right for a person to handle situations (and let's not forget this is fiction). Sandy goes into experimenting with Jason without thinking that while they are best friends, and always have each others back, this might/will change the way they look at each other and what it is that they want out of everything. Jason always knew, Sandy was his, but out of respect for Sandy and her fears, he went along with her ideas.

Watching these two come together and start being honest with each other and themselves was a wonderful journey to watch play out.

Theresa has shown me that she certainly can bring the heat, and I for one look forward to reading anything she decides to put out there......and I will certainly never get over the heat that she delivered.
