That is quite a cliffhanger to end on, one more to go.

I liked how desperate and bad things had got, really don't think I like that twist to change everything.

This series is very well written, has great pace and will always leave you wanting more. Having read the previous two books in the series I was ready for Part 3.
The way that humans have not only adapted to work with their AI counterparts is remarkable. Victor Shiloh once again is the main human in the story. He now faces extermination by aliens that resemble ants. Yeah, the irony is duly noted. Anyway he is one of 11,000 survivors of the human race. Who now depend more then ever in the AI's they helped create. Their assistance is invaluable and with the help of friendly Aliens (from now Tall Aliens) begin to fight the Insect like Aliens. Each of their vessels is called a VLO (Very Large Object). This contain incredible amounts of Insect Aliens and additional crafts.
While the humans and AI's continue to fight them, they now have a way to send Messages back in time which explains the past visions they have had. But even with that their battle seems lost. Time travel is introduced as a way to get out of the losing war.
This book is not one of those that only favors the humans. Wehr likes to amp the suspense by putting the humans up against the wall as much as possible.
Great pacing as I mentioned and lots of action.
I will finish the series this year but following my own rule to not marathon series anymore will wait a little longer for Part 4.

Another fine book in the series by Dietmar Wehr. The first two books got 5 stars from me. This book fluctuated between a 3 and a 4. If it had been a science fantasy book, it could have easily been 5 stars. It's well written. But, because this is science fiction and a fiction fastidiously tied to hard science, the whopper of a blooper that Deitmar Wehr pawned off on us in this book is unforgivable. Here's why -

ATTN: I somehow bought this series as one single book and read it all the way through in one reading, so I am just going to copy and paste this review for each of the four separate parts making up the whole of the book I read.

It was pretty funny to read the reviews of this first part of the four part saga of Wehr's The Synchronicity War. Everybody's bitching and moaning and giving one star reviews for how much it sucked, how the plot is so terrible, the writing so shoddy, the characters so indefinable, how it's terrible military sci fi, can't compare to David Weber (no one can, when it comes to military sci fi, although I thought Chris Bunch came close), but I somehow bought this series as one single book and read it all the way through, so I saw things differently, so when I went on to read reviews for the next three books, it was rather amusing at just how many people had changed their tunes. Where were all of the hugely influential book critics? Those obviously so much better writers that they've churned out many more commercially successful books than Wehr? The ones giving him one and two stars for the first "book"-part? Um, yeah, they weren't trolling around anymore. Instead, for the next three books, I saw very little but four and five star reviews, with people seriously impressed not only with the military sci fi action, but the hard sci fi, the detailed scientific explanations of what makes THIS go THAT way, etc, and while people still thought characterization was weak, and I guess that's not the strongest part of the series, I still don't fully buy that, as I became wholly invested in the characters, human and mechanical, and their personalities and relationships, and yes, he could have given us some detailed descriptions of what so and so looked like, but the man was working on a four book Military Sci Fi series, not a damn romance, so cut him some slack! Maybe he's not as good as Weber? No one is! But I'll wager he's as good as Jack Campbell and most of the others, certainly as ambitious. And I think, a fine writer, with nothing to be ashamed of and plenty to be proud of. This is an IDEA man! He thinks of things that constantly blow me away. His tactics are borderline brilliant, sometimes just plain brilliant. So, why the first book hatred, and then the irony of the Loooove over the next three books from you, dear readers? Geez, I don't know how many of you are writers out there, but I've published 15 books of my own, pre-self publishing, have ghost written two others, and have had fiction, poetry, nonfiction, journalism, academic writing, technical tutorials, technical white papers, and everything in between, published over the past 28 years, and sometimes it just takes the author awhile to set the tone, to set the pace, to get where he or she wants to be, which may have been the case with Wehr, I don't know, but if everyone hated the first book, but loved the final three, it seems to me it just took awhile for him to set his universe up enough so that readers were adjusted to it, and grew invested in it. That's it, that's all. Sometimes some authors do that. Not everyone can jump right into you're being invested in the plot from the second page. That's a special kind of writer and usually, a certain kind of book.

As for me, while not necessarily as good as *some* of Weber's finer works, this series blew me away and I loved it! I loved the risks the author took, with his characters and with his readers. It strikes me as brave. The books had my attention the whole way, and while people pointed out that, yes, big bad aliens who were stronger technologically than humans and out to destroy us was nothing new, the author's treatment of this plot device was, IMO, so I thought he handled it quite well. Indeed, the only disappointment I felt was in reading the final page and knowing I had come to the end. After spending so much of my time in this universe. It was a tough blow! I would love to see Mr. Wehr come out with some more books, although he does have another series, which I've also read and enjoyed. His name is not that well known, I don't believe, but I think it deserves to be. In any event, I loved this series, and I strongly recommend it for all who love military sci fi, hard sci fi, or good sci fi in general.

Purely unbelievable.

The author Dietmar Wehr is using the movie Alien in this series only that here the aliens are not monsters, they are huge ants which use bodies of other aliens for implants of larvas.
And if that’s not all a chemical warfare on top of it all.
Moving from planet to planet their armies grow so the question is who and how to stop them.

Luke Daniels narrated this book and its characters perfectly and beautifully.

My recommendations !

Books 1 and 2 were engaging and worthwhile. Books 3 and 4 messed with time travel so humans won. Deus ex machina at its worst. When the series changed focus from Shiloh to the details of the war, this series lost its way. I finished the series, but was disappointed with the final two books. Overall, the series should have ended with book 2 and an arc that hinted at the insecticides rather than leaving the initial Canine-type aliens as vaguely destroyed.

Light reading ... however it keeps you on your toes

Very goods series. I really recommend reading it. Light reading but exciting enough. Quite a few real science concepts that are thrown in and mixed with good quality action. I really like this good anchored realism.
I gave it four stars and I really thought to go for 5.

Down the rabbit hole

The author continually surprises with concepts and characters that get curiouser and curiouser. To say the battles are epic understates them by more than half. The pace and intensity are non-stop. Can't wait to finish book part 4.

I loved the first two books in this series. This book went downhill fast when you added time travel to it. Then it got to stupid. It turned out to be a big disappointment for me. A big turn off and disappointment describes this book.

It is getting confusing, but the author handles it well. The humans get eliminated from the game, but their AIs, or at least one of them, hatch a plant to change the history. This is good stuff!

Still great

Of course I purchased book 4. But I'm a bit disturbed by the time travel stuff. It seems like he took the easy way out... Just saying, as he and his AI like to say.

Armageddon?

This book needs to
Be read as the third of four.
Done read this series out of order, because each one builds on the last.
There’s a lot of good science here.

ABR's full The Synchronicity War Part 3 audiobook review and many others can be found at Audiobook Reviewer.

This is a review of the third book in a series please listen to those first as this review may contain spoilers to those books.

The Synchronicity War (Book 3) picks up right where The Synchronicity War (Book 2) leaves off. Aliens life exists and they all do not want the human race dead. Some are pacifists, they do not have weapons, yet they have vast technological knowledge. Some of which they are willing to share so that humans might survive long enough to save yet another alien race. We found that we can communicate with the past, well at least send messages aka visions, to help ourselves win key strategic battles.

There is a lot happening in this installment, way too many spoilers to giveaway.

Book 3, to my enjoyment, focuses much more on the AI involvement. I love that Wehr went the route of having these artificial beings that humans created become, after maturing somewhat, fully sentient beings. These machine have feelings for humans, especially Shiloh, and we find out for one another. This is one of the driving forces that make this space battle adventure so much fun.

There are a few moments that feel like watching the movie Groundhogs Day, because certain thing are repeated a few times from different perspectives.

Between the publisher’s summary and what I have written above, I cannot say much more about the plot.

Just know this. If you are in need of a multi book epic military based space opera series and has great battle scenes, multidimensional characters with great interactions between, humor, sorrow, makes you squirm in your seat from anticipation, where the technology makes sense, you are in for a wild ride with this one.

Luke Daniels is on the ball with this performance. He handles everything the Wehr throws at him with grace and comes out triumphant. Daniels has this uncanny ability to produce a dozen, give or take, unique and almost monotone robot like voices. Plus all of the human characters and alines with their emotional needs. And it all make sense. Bravo!

From My Newsletter Number 82:

This review is on The Synchronicity War, Part 3 written by Dietmar Arthur Wehr. It is the third book in this series I have read by this author.

This story begins with a revisit to Chapter 22 from book two. The enemy alien colony is under attack by a Very Large Object (VLO). The problem for Commander Victor Shiloh is whether or not to contact the VLO to see if the new aliens are friendly or not. Shiloh receives another vision from the future. He meets another alien race in the vision and is told he must see the VLO for himself before meeting them.

The new story begins with Shiloh deciding to go on a recon mission to check out the VLO. Shiloh also checks on the status of Earth that was attacked by the enemy aliens. It seems the Earth was pretty much destroyed by the aliens, which causes Shiloh and the remaining surviving humans to seek revenge.

This story takes a surprising turn with the focus on the new VLO aliens and their purpose versus the original enemy that destroyed Earth. It also focuses heavily on the AI’s involvement in the battle scenes and new weapon technology as well as creates a new subplot dealing with the future.

If you like very detailed analysis on every aspect of military science fiction and weapon development as well as the rational for time travel, you will find this book interesting.

I give this book three stars because I liked the story, but it is still over analyzed for my taste. I hope the next book in the series is more interesting from a character perspective.

The Synchronicity War Part 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 are a space opera - please note that this is same review for all four books.

They are in the tradition of David Weber, Elizabeth Moon and E E "Doc" Smith. However they do not hold a candle to these authors.

I must have liked them enough to read all four titles in the series. I was on holiday and had pre-loaded these on my kindle and had limit WiFi to be able to download any other titles (I do have about 200 unread books on my Kindle - these are freebies and I was in a Sci Fi mood).

It is an interesting series with interesting ideas and characters - I liked that the AI's were sentient, and the idea of changing the time lines to save humanity has merit. It was Dietmar Wehr's writing style that I didn't enjoy - I'm not sure why but I felt he needed a sharper style, it seemed as if his writing needs to be more mature.

Only just made three stars.

I really enjoyed the first 3/4's of this book. But then the author took a perilous turn into the realm of time travel. I HATE time travel as a theme in books (and TV and movies for that matter), and here's why.

#1 - Time travel paradox (aka The Grandfather Paradox) tends to negate and/or invalidate everything that you have read so far in the series since it would have never actually happened given that the characters go back in time to prevent it.

#2 - 99% of the time, the plot "twist" in time travel books/movies is that by traveling back in time, the characters caused the very thing that they were trying to prevent.

#3 - Time travel is often used as a cop-out to rewind the plot, undo major events, and start over. In other words, it's often a crutch for poor story telling. And finally

#4 - You clog the pages up and bloat the plot with re-tellings of the same events that already happened.

The author does a decent job with #1. The series hasn't concluded yet so I can't speak to #2. Part 4 of the series which I am starting should give me an answer to #3. And I'm already starting to groan with #4 happening. It's like the movies Groundhog's Day and Edge of Tomorrow mixed with that episode of The Simpsons where Homer keeps going back in time and altering the future with a magic toaster. I'm keeping an open mind but I have a feeling Part 4 is going to jump the shark.

I really wanted to give this five stars; the story itself WAS amazing! What a causality roller-coaster ride this story turned out to be; to say any more would lead to spoilers. Wehr has an interesting style and has really learned to create a page turner.

There is a fine balance between teasing the next novel with a cliff-hanger and stopping in the middle of a battle; in this book Wehr went off that edge... The characters are still pretty flat although a bit better defined. These are my reasons for not giving five stars.

RIVITING

These three Synchronicity books were a very good read. The only thing that I really didn't care for was the cliffhanger. I am of the opinion that cliffhanger's are okay at the end of book one or two if the third book makes it a trilogy and is ready to purchase. In this case the three books are long and should have been wrapped up for the reader. All in all I gave these three books 5stars for entertainment and content as they held my attention.

Game changer

This book by far is the best in the series. Lots of good plot twists. The science in the book is based mostly on theories we already know about making things a little easier to grasp fundamentally. Of course there is still some science based on no theory, but it sure sounds cool. Once I'm done with the 4th book ill write a review for it as well. I have reviewed the other 2 as well.

We are on the 3rd book of the series, with some time jumping and plot twists along the way.
The super enemy has been discovered and are not nice characters.
The plot covers the attempts by the CAG & crew to fight all the enemies and save the planet from being killed - nuked, bio attacked and over run by a myraid of enemies.

I read book4 immediately after this and I would suggest, as then the story arc will be fresh in your mind and able to keep abreast with all the plot twists.

The levels of suspense here make this masochistic reading. When other reviewers commented about how involving the AI characters were I wondered what they could mean. I found out. Many have tried to get all of these plot devices to come together and work but no one has succeeded. I place this series at the level of Frank Herbert's Dune or Asimov's Foundation Trilogy.

Time To End It

the first book was good, the second was fine as well. the plot is getting tired and quite honestly, I don't think I care enough about the plot line to read the next book. It's starting to remind me of "who Bobby Ewing" and in the end it was a dream. Enough already!

Really enjoying the series. The added element of time travel reboot is fascinating and things may end just as badly as before. It is a fun ride and I'm enjoying the characters. If I didn't have to go to work today, I'd be downloading book for so I could get closure immediately. :)

I found the style a little stiltish. By that I mean the conversations were terse and not realistic, and the prose was very curt. But despite that I was constantly drawn to read the entire series so it must be doing something right :-)

I think I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could.
