Prayers have been answered. Hell has frozen over. The Gallagher brothers have finally gotten back together. Only it's not to play music - it's to solve a murder. Recently, the club of celebrities-turned-sleuths has exploded with names like Barack Obama, Queen Elizabeth II and Taylor Swift appearing on the list. Liam and Noel add a touch of rock n' roll to that exclusive group.
As songwriting superstar Noel Gallagher arrives in the tiny village of Little Abbotsbee, the one thing on his mind is selling a treasured guitar. But when the buyer turns up murdered, the police name Noel as a prime suspect. After all, he was one of the last people to see the victim alive.
The other Noel's estranged brother, the legendary Liam f@#$-ing Gallagher.
Shackled together, the lads take on the track suspects, locate the true killer and endure each other's presence for over three minutes. Narrated by Noel with his trademark snark, the adventure unfolds through ramshackle, psychedelic, aggressive diatribes only the Gallaghers can deliver.
A parody cozy mystery that's 100% safe for work (assuming you work for a football club), DEADLY MAYBE sees Manchester's rock n' roll titans become amateur sleuths who seek clues, ask dangerous questions and learn chilling truths that maybeeee they don't really wanna know.
Having written music reviews and mystery novels (The Psychic Barber Mystery series), author Phillip Mottaz brings both worlds together in Deadly Maybe, rock criticism, parody, humor and humour into a perfect celebrity mystery.
Phillip Mottaz wrote his first novel when he was only 39. After growing up in Illinois’ smallest city, he studied improv and sketch comedy in Chicago. Since moving to Los Angeles, he has written every kind of script imaginable, produced multiple podcasts and — to date — has developed no psychic abilities. He is known for funny, quirky, weird mystery novels, and for adding strange details to his author bio.
This quick read was tons of fun! It delivers what it promises: the Gallagher brothers with all of their trademark brotherly angst along with a cozy mystery. Note: if you don't like the F-word in your cozies, this may not be the book for you :)
I was a bit skeptical when I first bought this. I am a big fan of the author’s previous works and was not sure if I was on board with the premise of this one. The Gallagher brothers solving a mystery? I know a bit about the Gallagher brothers, but not nearly enough to enjoy this book, right? How wrong I was. I was immediately hooked after the first chapter. This book is such a fun read! It’s also incredibly funny. If the real Gallagher brothers ever read it, they would be proud to be the center of this author’s book. And a sequel? Count me in!
I was excited to get this for the conceit alone, but happy to discover that it’s very well written and funny to boot. As someone who never has voluntarily listened to Oasis, I bear witness that you don’t need to be a fan of the brothers to enjoy this book. It’s about the coziest mystery that’s ever cozied, but the relationship between the fictional Gallagher brothers is what makes it so enjoyable.
Hilarious, clever, and just in time to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Oasis's debut studio album Definitely Maybe comes Deadly Maybe, A Gallagher Brothers Mystery. Whether you're a fan of artful murder mysteries, 90s British rockers, or both, Noel and Liam are sneering and ready to take you on a ride that reeks of stale cigarettes and last night's pub crawl as they reunite to crack the case in all their foul-mouthed, grandiose, Mancunian glory. Loved it – a fast and funny whodunit that earns full marks from me for the Manchester slang-fueled dialogue alone. You're sure to come away with some choice insults, innit?
It is a masterpiece for Oasis fans. Mottaz really knows how the brothers act and talk. I've spent an amazing time reading this story. Liam and Noel are even funnier in this story than in real life. I think this is the meaning of reading, to live in a better world full of brotherly love in our imagination. Besides, the language of this book is plain and easy to understand, and it is also very friendly to me as a second language user.
Damn this book was great. I laughed a lot, and I’m only a casual Oasis fan so I still probably missed some of the jokes. But the relationship between these two brothers, forced into being suspects in a murder mystery was such a fun, wild ride. I highly recommend this book for lovers of Oasis or music or murder mysteries or jokes or great writing or fun storytelling. Or all of the above!
Easy and quick to read. Some parts can be funny. The plot was very simple. I had guessed the killer pretty early being there are a limited number of characters and some of the plot but not all of it. Sometimes the writing and the brothers arguing can be annoying but it is meant to be being it’s him retelling it into a recorder. 2.75/5
