The highly anticipated follow-up to Amazon All Star BIG HORN, a thrilling Jenn Herrington legal mystery set in Wyoming's rugged Bighorn Mountains.
When former prosecutor and mystery writer Jenn Herrington's veterinarian husband Aaron is summoned to examine new performance horses at Big Horn, Wyoming’s WP Bar Ranch, he discovers the obnoxious California owner dead in his Jaguar at the bottom of a sheer, icy roadside cliff. Deputies arrest their beloved friend and contractor Black Bear Betty, whose tractor left tire tracks up to the cliffside, and whose disgruntlement with Glen is no secret.
Unlicensed in Wyoming, Jenn enlists the aid of Kid James—a painfully youthful and inexperienced local attorney whose distracting crush on Denee Hopkins has the hots for Aaron—to represent Black Bear Betty. Jenn has her own her writer’s block on her next Wyoming Mystery for her agent, and her obsession with proving former prosecutor Alfred "Pootie" Carputin is the man responsible for the nightmares and issues that have sent her to a chaplain to work through the traumatic memories of a school shooting when she was only four.
Jenn and Kid find no shortage of suspects in Glen’s death but can’t get past the damning evidence against Black Bear Betty, until the Herringtons take a dog sled and glamping getaway into Walker Prairie. Far from civilization and help, what they encounter there make for the best weekend of their life . . . or their last.
A former attorney, Pamela runs an off-the-grid lodge on the face of Wyoming's Bighorn Mountains, living out the adventures in her books with her husband, rescue dogs and cats, and enormous horses.
Bonus for fans of other PFH watch for strong appearances by crossover characters from What Doesn't Kill You, Detective Delaney Pace, and Patrick Flint.

I'm a USA Today bestselling mystery/suspense/thriller author and a big horse and sled dog enthusiast.
My hunky husband and I ride our beloved draft cross horses way up in the frozen north of Snowheresville, WY, where we run a rustic, off-the-grid lodge on the face of the Bighorn Mountains. When I'm not writing or riding, I'm passionate about wilderness sports, always with a couple of rescue dogs, bear spray, a mountain lion knife, and my Judge. NO ANIMALS HAVE BEEN HARMED IN THE MAKING OF THIS LIFE ADVENTURE (but don't sneak up on me).
I've made some lists and won some awards, yada yada. Amazon Charts Top 25 bestseller. USA Today Bestseller. The Silver Falchion for Best Adult Mystery WINNER (Fighting for Anna), the WINNERS for USA Best Books Fiction: Cross Genre (Hell to Pay, Heaven to Betsy), and others. With books "in print" of over 3,000,000, readers seem to enjoy the books—I think they have exceptionally good taste. {insert goofy grin here} Lots of them follow my show Wine Women & Writing, too, where I fangirl my favorite authors and interview them for your listening and viewing pleasure. I love the Big Horn Mountains of Wyoming as the backdrop for #2 in the series. I also like how PFH knits in other characters from her Flint and Pace series. Jenn works with Kid to free their friend and solve a murder. I loved the mischievous malamutes Because I know they’re based on the author’s own dogs but less naughty. I didn’t like Casey one bit even after I discovered who she really is. The funniest line in the entire book is “He’s Big Bird with a briefcase!” The ending, naturally, left me hangin until, the next book. Thanks to the author for the advance read.
Pamela has done it again, created life and excitement from daily living. has a secret, and excitement light of day. Pamela has gleefully created dysfunctional people, problematic and ineffectual governing entities, with plots that crack open like a rotten egg, startling the reader and everyone in the story. I enjoyed Walker Prairie, the twists and turns of who might be guilty of crimes even murder! A town full of suspects, each with an axe to grind or an agenda, often revealing their dirty little secrets but not guilty of the crimes being investigated. A delicious romp with cameos of characters from other books, and guiding the reader through the crowded room of usual suspects. Fun read. And I like being in the know watching the characters develop, some from Pam and her husband, Eric's real life in Wyoming. Willett and Sibley, knowing her sled dogs are dear to her heart but are constant mischievous imps, are amusing. Tongue in cheek humor especially breaking the critical moments are welcome. Great job!
Jenn Herrington is a former prosecutor from Texas. She and her husband, Aaron, a veterinarian, have moved to Wyoming. Jenn hasn't yet passed the bar in Wyoming, so she's in an interesting situation, having a young lawyer, "Kid," who has passed the bar, being the lead attorney, while, in actuality, taking the lead role.
A hard working contractor has been accused of murder and Jenn believes that she didn't commit the crime, if it even was a crime. As Jenn and Kid try to uncover evidence to refute the charges, a beautiful young woman has arrived in town and while Kid is captivated by her, Jenn seems to be the object of her ire.
There is a lot going on in this story and it grabs the reader right from the beginning pages, just like other books by Pamela Fagan Hutchins, there are puzzles to solve, dangers to face, and a great ending. For long term readers, there is a treat with characters from previous series showing up in this book.
Jenn is a self-absorbed and histrionic lawyer, married to Aaron, who's a dense knobhead who keeps telling his wife he loves her to pieces and yet never sticks up for her when his lying, crappy, crazy daughter, who he's known for about a minute, runs her down. At least she says she's his daughter, although there was not so much as a hint of DNA testing done to prove that; he just takes her word for it. Even though crazy Casey already sabotaged Jenn's legal case and later tried to shoot her, Aaron minimizes all the bad things she did and then begs Jenn to help his poor little daughter because she was just confused. I had to skim and skip while reading this, or I'd have broken my Kindle when I threw it at a wall. The only sane beings in this book seem to be the dogs. And maybe George. No, I won't be reading any more of this series.
WALKER PRAIRIE is a Jenn Herrington Wyoming Mystery (Book 2), a continuation of the adventures and misadventures of Jennifer Herrington and her side-kick/ husband Aaron in the small city of Big Horn, Wyoming, and the nearby 1,120,000-acre Big Horn National Forest. This is a fast-paced, exciting tale with wonderfully pictured forays into wintertime wilderness, fast-paced action, challenging situations, and lots of sled dogs and horses. Altogether an enticing tale told very well. Pamela Fagan Hutchins has me adding the Big Horn National Forest to my bucket list just after Yosemite and Yellowstone. Unfortunately, this one was published just two months ago, so we have to wait on #3 in this series. Write fast, PFH! REVIEWED on January 18, 2025, at Goodreads, AmazonSmile, Barnes&Noble, BookBub, and Kobo.
I love the Jenn Herrington series, and Walker Prairie (book #2) did not disappoint! Jenn is a "Big City" lawyer and mystery writer married to a veterinarian who lives in the Big Horn mountains of Wyoming. Working with a local lawyer and using her own legal experience and good detective work, she helps solve murders, which seem to involve most of the town's residents, in one way or another. Pamela Fagan Hutchins does a fantastic job of developing multiple layers of twists and turns, and developing characters you think about well after the book has been finished. And I love how she weaves characters from her other series into her stories! (Prior series reading not needed, but I encourage you to find her books - they are all terrific! Big Horn - Jenn Herrington series - book #1: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...
This book was very good, lots of mystery and suspense. I love the characters of Jenn Herrington and her husband Aaron, they always seem to get tied into messes of not their own. There was a murder of a wealthy man in town shortly after Aaron provided some vet services to his horse, and the local woman Black Bear Betty became the number one suspect. Jenn is on the case to prove BBB didn’t murder the man. This book will keep you on your toes with wondering what will happen next. I also love the hints of other series characters! Can’t wait for Book 3!!.

This book had me on the edge of my seat, and was so good that I finished it in 2 days. I love all of Pamela's books. This one is even better because Willett and Sibley are in it. That part puts a smile on my face. I can't wait to see what Pamela has Casey doing in the next book. I think she is going to continue to be trouble for Aaron and Jenn, and it's going to get worse before it gets better.

This was another non-stop page turner. Great characters from a high paced attorney to her country veterinarian husband. Well developed and likable. From a murder suspect that everybody likes to thrilling dog sled rides, this book has it all. Great descriptions of the towns and country where all the action is taking place and even visits from characters from other books. Can’t wait for the next one! Read it!!
Jenn and Aaron are back enjoying life in the BigHorn Mountains. An unlikable neighbor dies and Kid and her end up defending Black Bear Betty from a murder charge. The first installment I had a hard time liking Jenn. This time was much better, but by the end, I didn’t like Aaron! And don’t even get me started on newcomer Casey. But just like the first installment, there was non-stop action from start to finish. Looking forward to what will happen next!
Jennifer is not licensed to practice law in Wyoming. She is helping Kid with defending Black Bear Betty. Jenn and Kid have interviewed many people, all of them dislike Trusk. He was not a nice person. Then there is Casey and Will who Trusk fired from the farm. Kid hired Casey to work with him and Jenn. More because he had a crush on her. Who killed Trusk? Jenn and Aaron are in the thick of things once again defending a friend, and Kid is smitten to distraction with a gal with questionable motives. This one is definitely unpredictable and fast-paced with lovable furry creatures in supporting roles.

If you like your mysteries with dogs, horses, skunks, foxes, snow and cold weather, this is the book for you. The book has an interesting heroine who works tirelessly to right any wrongs she sees. The mystery in the book is brought to a satisfying conclusion and the book ends with a cliffhanger that will have readers anxiously anticipating the next book in the series.
wow wow wow, another wonderful book from a fabulous author! this book will keep you on the edge of your seat! Interesting complex characters, an intense story, details that actually kept me freezing cold! I love the dogs! Murder and mayhem, lots of twists and turns making this a real page turner and a must read!!
I had a hard time putting this book down! I wanted to know what happened next, many twist and turns to keep you guessing along the entire book. I’m a dog lover so the Malamutes were an extra bonus. This is definitely a good book to curl up to next to a cozy fire and get lost into the characters.

This is my first book by Hutchins and I’m so impressed. Her writing just captivated me from beginning to end. I loved that Jennifer and Aarons’s lives were realistic and messy which makes them relatable… and relevant. Definitely a well earned 5 ⭐️ in my book.

Love this book. I can't believe I have to wait a year for the next one. I love Jenn, but really hate Casey. Hopefully a good outcome on the next one. Intriguing and suspenseful. Kid is getting better with every story. Jennifer deffinetly has a lot of changes coming her way as well as Aaron. Hoping for good ones.
Another great story! This time Jenn and Kid are defending Black Bear Betty accused of murder. As Jenn works to uncover the truth, someone is working to sabotage her efforts…and the identity is a shocker!! Lots of twists and turns and a bit of a cliff hanger. Eagerly anticipating book 3
Actual rating a bit closer to 3.5. I liked the book but the narration left much to be desired. It was fairly monotone with very little emotion where there should have been. The storyline was interesting though and kept my interest.
Life is full of changes and so it is for Jenn and Aaron. Some of the changes are certainly not what they expected. Surprises abound in this mystery set in the wilds of Wyoming. The move, the new jobs, studying for the bar exam are stressful, so are the other decisions in their lives. This is a story of how complicated life in a small town can become, particularly when the past comes with it.
Loved the story. Glad to see some of my favorites from other books mentioned in the story. I especially enjoyed the addition of the sled dogs. The story sets up nicely for more stories to follow.
This book was full of suspense. It kept me on the edge of my seat waiting to find out how it would end. I recommend this book if you love a good suspense book.
I really liked the first book... this one was good ...but I do feel like the 1st one was more of interesting story to me..I am looking 4ward to #3 tho....
