Author of retellings of Russian folk tales "Teremok", "Fox with a rolling pin", "Masha and the Bear" and many others, fairy tales of the peoples of the USSR, fairy tales of Charles Perrault (1936), creator of the books: "Geese-Swans" (1937), "Mountain gems "(1957)," Thirty-three pies "(1962), etc.
His first literary "work" was a diary he wrote in three days, when childhood researchers came to the school where he studied in search and purchase of schoolchildren's diaries. This happened shortly after the publication in 1927 of the famous book by N. Ognev "The Diary of Kostya Ryabtsev" in 1927 and determined his profession. Bulatov did not finish school, starting to work for Moscow region and Moscow newspapers. When the Detgiz publishing house of books for children was created in Moscow, Bulatov began to cooperate with him, many of his books were published by this publishing house. Having become a professional writer for children in the 1930s, Bulatov did not join the Union of Soviet Writers of the USSR. He has been a member of the USSR Literary Fund since 1952.
He didn't mobilized into the army for health reasons, Bulatov volunteered for the people's militia of the Kuibyshevsky district of Moscow. The history of the creation of the Moscow people's militia - on the site "Smolensk 1941". Decommissioned from the militia a few weeks later, Bulatov began to work in the editorial office of the newspaper of the Moscow military district "Red Warrior", to publish notes in other newspapers. In 1942, the publishing house "Pravda" published his books: "Suvorov in folk songs and stories" and "Kutuzov in 1812". For valiant and selfless labor during the Great Patriotic War, he was awarded the medal "For Valiant Labor ..."

یکی از وجوه جنگ سرد بین شوروی سابق و ایالات متحده، صادر کردن و ترویج فرهنگ های خود در میان مردمان کشورهای جهان سوم بود؛
از یک طرف ایالات متحده می کوشيد تا طبق برنامه اصل چهار ترومن، به ترویج فرهنگ آمریکایی در میان کشورهای ضعیف تر بپردازد، و در ایران همکاری شرکت ديزنی و انتشارات فرانکلين، در همین راستا بود.
از طرف دیگر بلشویک ها تلاش می کردند تا با انتشار کتاب هایی به تبلیغ و صدور ایدئولوژی سوسیالیستی بپردازند. نشر پروگرس مسکو هم با انتشار کتاب کودکان به زبان فارسی، تلاش میکرد تا کودکان ایرانی را با فرهنگ روسی و زیباشناسی سوسیالیستی آشنا کند.
این کتاب را هم همین انتشارات پروگرس در دهه 40 (و بنا به روایتی دیگر 1334)، به ترجمه حبیب اله فروغيان (عضو شورای مرکزی حزب توده؟؟) منتشر کرده است.
داستان، خیلی ساده و سرراست است از یک داستان فولکلوریک روسی (احتمالا برای کودکان با سن پايين) و تصویرسازی ها هم معمولی هستند.
در کل به نظرم با توجه به کمبود کتاب کودکان در آن دوره، این حرکت ها(ی اگرچه مشکوک از نظر سیاسی)، خالی از فایده نبوده اند.

When Masha's friends invite her to accompany them on a mushroom and berry-picking trip to the woods, her loving grandparents warn her not wander too far from her companions. But - as is so often the case in the world of folklore - an early warning is almost a gaurantee that the prohibited action will occur, and Masha does indeed wander off. Eventually finding herself the captive house-keeper of a bear, Masha longs to return home to her grandparents. But how can she run away, when she doesn't know which direction to take, and the bear has threatened to eat her, if she does...?
This retelling of a Russian folktale is a classic example of the triumph of the clever heroine over a physically stronger opponent. Printed in the former Soviet Union for the English-language market, it is illustrated with Y. Rachev's bright, simple artwork.

La mia piccolina adora il cartone animato di "Masha e Orso" così le ho comprato e letto la fiaba russa da cui è tratto... che trauma scoprire che nella favola l'adorabile Orso è cattivissimo! XD
