Umm, so I finished this maybe 2 weeks before, but I forgot to come here at gr and mark it as read😅. So without further ado, let's dive into the review!🤭 (yeah, I know, I know what you all are thinking. For once I'm going to write a review and post it) I miss reading and reviewing and everything and everyone here😭

First of all, you guys might know, I'm not a huge fan of friends-to-lovers trope! I always go for enemies-to-lovers, so when this one popped up to sign up for the ARC and I saw fake dating, I wanted to read it! Like come on fake dating tropes never go wrong😍 And all I got to say is OH. MY. GOD! Seriously for a debut book, this was insanely good!! The banter, their meetings, their chemistry, the romance, everything was exceptionally top tier!💖 I was never bored (Yup, I might have stayed up late at night to read this, sacrificing my sleep, and looking like a panda the next day, but it was worth it😌💅🏻)

Meet the characters

🌼Amelia Thatcher~ A strong-willed woman, rebellious in her own way, goes against her parents wish and works hard as a project manager in a male-dominant company even though she is the sole heiress of the Thatcher Inc. She doesn't need a man, she is complete within herself. That's what she believes until a man barrels into her life and saves her from her blind date set up by her bestie.

🌼Riley Anderson~ Broodingly charming, handsome golden retriever guy, a lawyer by profession who barrels into Amelia's life. He wants to continue his grandfather's legacy even though he feels he doesn't belong in his own family. I felt bad for him when I learned that he was cheated on by his ex with his own brother. Everything he has worked for seems to be crumbling around him. And Amelia is the only person that makes him believe in himself again.

“Amelia Thatcher, I'd be delighted to be your arm candy”

🌼Amelia & Riley~ The journey of them from being strangers to friends to fake dating to lovers was everything🥰💘 When he first meets her, he calls her "Princess", HELLO? Like can I get a Riley too please?😍👉🏻👈🏻 He doesn't even realize for the 70% of the book, that she is, in fact, an heiress to the multi-billion dollar firm🤭

Another thing I wanted to add to this book was the trio friendship! The bonding between Amelia and her besties Samantha and Lauren was so heartwarming🥺💕 Something that I can relate to, since me, myself having two besties. Their bonding reminded me of my besties and I adored every second of their interaction. I can't wait to read Lauren's and Samantha's stories next, but especially Samantha🤭 (since she sets up blind dates but is never interested in dating herself)

Read this if you like 💌:
🎀 Strangers-to-friends-to-lovers
🎀 Fake dating
🎀 Closed door romance
🎀 Dual POV
🎀 Slow burn

I would like to thank Sunny Babe PR and the Author for this fabulous ARC!!!! I enjoyed every bit reading it, giggling through the entirety of reading about Amelia and Riley's blossoming love story!🥰💗 I definitely recommend reading this book! This became my favorite already only in the first 5% in.

As a debut novel, Helen knocks it out of the park. The banter between Amelia and Riley is so sharp and witty, it could slice through steel. Their chemistry is absolutely electric. You’ll find yourself laughing out loud one moment and swooning the next. And while the romance is closed-door, trust me, your imagination will do plenty of work. 🤭

Amelia is the ultimate boss lady. She's determined, witty, and not afraid to stand her ground. And Riley ohh Riley!! This guy is the epitome of supportive. He understands Amelia's struggle to make a name for herself. He's charming, thoughtful, and never threatened by Amelia's success—basically, the dream fake (and real) boyfriend.

If this is what Helen brings to the table on her first try, I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!

Reading ARCs always makes me nervous because I don’t want to upset indie authors but what if I don’t like the book?!

It makes me SO HAPPY to be able to say that this was an amazing read and I just want to say how proud I am of my friend for writing such an incredible debut novel! I just knew it’s gonna be good!

It’s normally very easy for me to get the ick while reading a romance or find something that makes me cringe but I honestly loved all of it!

Let’s start with how funny this was! I knew Helen has a great sense of humor but she made the characters witty, sarcastic, they had a great banter and I loved all the pop culture references!

Amelia was incredibly relatable, she cries when she’s angry and covers the coffee table in all varieties of snacks when upset. I mean, what else do you need? She’s also a strong, badass woman, who stands up for herself and is working hard to show everybody that she’s more than just her father’s daughter.

Riley “the next time you put your hands on what’s mine, I’ll make sure it’s the last thing that hand ever does” Anderson. 🫠 SIR. A gentleman, great friend, an amazing listener, he’s thoughtful, caring, funny AND he calls her Princess 🥲 and he loves her soooo 😩
“Amelia is my my calm in the storm. My sanctuary.”

I loved their chemistry! The club scene? 🥵 They were funny, flirty and when they FINALLY made the deal to fake date I screamed: ITS HAPPENING. Everybody who knows me knows that’s my favorite trope 🙃 and it was so well done! The questioning of “is it for real or is it still an act” always gets me! I’m just a girl 😩

And I’m sorry but he got her girls wait for her with snacks after her first day at work??? He knows her so well, help 😭

I loved Amelia/Sam/Lauren group chat!

Amelia has left the chat.
Lauren has added Amelia to the chat.
Amelia: I hate it here.

CACKLING. That’s what happens in my group chat 😂

LOVED THE EPILOGUES! The way she handled that asshole! And Riley got his justice, too 🥹 I love this for them!

Obviously I’m obsessed with Rob. Hello? Tattoos, man bun and a beard? YUP. Can’t wait to read his book. I already know it will be my favorite 😭

Thank you Helen and Sunny Babe PR for sending me an ARC copy of this book! So so proud of you, bestie! I had so much fun reading this! 🥹🩷

I had the very honor of reading one of my best friend’s book. This book is outstanding and I’m so very proud of her! The story line is beautifully portrayed, written, and thought out. I am 100% in love with Riley and Amelia, they made me laugh, cry, kick my legs, and have butterflies! They’re 2 amazing people finally getting their happy ever after but not without a little drama! The ending was absolutely perfect! Can’t wait to see what the future holds for Helen in her writing! 💗 I LOVE YOU HELEN AND IM PROUD OF YOU!

ARC review

Amelia & Riley 🥰 these two have an adorable meet cute where she runs into him (literally) at the bar and then he rescues her from her blind date. Neither of them feels like they are interested in, or have time/space for, a relationship right now. But both feel a comfort and familiarity with the other, so they form a fast friendship (and then some fake dating.)

The connection these two have throughout the book was so so fun to read! Their banter was amazing. The support they offered each other, a dream. And some swoony, steamy scenes to top it off? 👩🏼‍🍳💋

I would recommend this debut novel by H.L. Mann to all my contemporary romance lovers out there! Can’t wait for book two!!

Holy shit. I loved this! I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump as of late, and this was just the romcom I needed. I was hooked from the very beginning and couldn’t put it down. It was lighthearted, sweet, and hilarious. I thoroughly enjoyed the humor and pop culture references.

I adored Amelia and Riley. Their banter was everything, and I loved that we got to see them build the foundation of their friendship alongside their attraction. Not to mention they were both such kind-hearted, genuine characters. You can’t help but to root for them!

Helen absolutely knocked her debut novel out of the park! Definitely pick this up if you’re a fan of friends-to-lovers and fake dating. You won’t be disappointed!

Oh and because of this book, I’ve finally been able to spell “convenience” right on the first try for once in my life 😅😂 I wish I was kidding lmao

This book was fantastic! If you love contemporary romance, witty banter, or fake dating… add it to your tbr NOW! This book was SO fun. I kicked my feet like a little school girl, and was smiling so hard while reading this.

It was light. It was fluffy. It was low stakes, and just the right read for me. Definitely a fantastic beach read this summer.

This story is told from dual POV, and takes place in Charlotte, NC. The characters are just perfect. They make the mistakes we all do! I just couldn’t get enough. The writing was well paced and kept the pages turning. While I did find some things restated unnecessarily, it didn’t take away from the reading experience. Munn had me rooting for these characters the whole time.

A bit of slow burn, a bit of forbidden love, and a perfect melt your heart romance. 💚

Highly recommend if you need a pallet cleanser or quick read.

I am so excited to share my thoughts on Rules of Convenience not only because it’s my first ever ARC review through SunnyBabePR, but also because it’s H.L. Munn’s debut novel! Truthfully, I loved this book—it was a nice, cozy read to break up some of the heavy fantasy that I have been reading for the past several months.

Riley’s character really resonated with me because of his attachment to his grandparents. I had a very similar relationship with my grandmother, so while reading this, I instantly connected with him and could relate to his feelings about wanting to carry on the best parts of his family’s legacy. I also loved how he pushed every single one of Amelia’s buttons but she still loved him for it. Everything from Riley to Amelia’s banter and playful arguing, to the modern day, pop culture references throughout this book (my favorite being the reference to Riley looking like Henry Cavill 😍) kept me engaged and wanting more. I am so excited to see what happens next in Riley and Amelia’s story, especially with that ending!!

-I was so entertained during the entirety of this book. I feel like I say this a lot of romance books but it’s always the case: I love reading romance books for a simple good reading time and not all romance books can give feelings like this book gave me. I really felt so cosy reading this and I enjoyed the friends to lovers aspect along with the fake dating trope that was included along the way.
-The characters were really great. They were so sweet together and I love how they are instantly attracted to each other but the burn was veeeery slow and that’s what I love. Individually both characters were interesting and have their own storyline and together they were so cute, I just wanted them to be together despite me loving a nice and very slow burn. I do wish we could have see more of some of the side character notably Sam and Lauren. Although, from the little we saw them, I really loved them.
-I was quite worried at the ending because something happened which I really didn’t like but it ended up being written in a way which was entertaining and didn’t make me feel icky. The epilogues were also really nice to read as a good follow up.

A beautiful book about believing in yourself.

This story is more than just a romance. We dive deep into both Amelia and Riley’s lives as they face the expectations of successful families and what it means to be a part of a dynasty. It’s such a refreshing take on contemporary romance, and I adored every bit of it.

I absolutely loved how strong Amelia is—how powerful she is. Even when she doesn’t believe in herself, she is still such a stunning testament to what women can be if only the world would let us.

I’m also a sucker for vulnerable and obsessed men, and I think Riley blows it out of the water with his willingness to care and cherish Amelia.

The ending had me SCREAMINGGGGG. I SCREAMED ON A PLANE.

I need more A S A P

SHE CALLS HIM RYE!!!!

Helen, this was so good for a debut! Riley is a dream, and the nickname Rye???? Cutest thing ever.

Sometimes you need a low-stakes romance to tug at your heartstrings in all the best ways. This scratched all the itches I had, and even though there was no smut, this book definitely was NOT lacking in intimacy. Sometimes it’s those silly moments doing a crossword that become the most memorable parts of the book.

I think this had just the right amount of soft and sweet moments, with just the right amount of conflicts that didn’t get drawn out unnecessarily.

And I saw that Lauren and Rob were getting a book???? Count me in.

Rules of Convenience by H.L. Munn is a slow burn contemporary Romance with Fake dating, Friends to Lovers, Romantic comedy and Fade to black.

This story is told in Dual POV and it was such a feel good story. It’s easy to read with no unnecessary complications in the storyline. I loved both Amelia the MFC and Riley the MMC. The chemistry, the banter, the friendship, the romance just everything between them was so good!

The is the type of book you can just sit back and read in either a day or over a longer time. I will definitely be rereading it in the future.

I hope we get to see more of them and I definitely need a book for Rob!!

“Make no mistake, Princess. I would break all the rules for you”

Rules of Convenience by H.L. Munn @fromthelibraryof_xo is an uplifting and powerful story about a woman rising to the expectations and coming to terms with herself and her family, in a way. She first, of course, wants to make it on her own. That’s when Amelia, the FMC, and Riley, the MMC, become friends and eventually fake dates.

The best friend before fake dating is what I loved most about this book. I loved how close the two characters got and how they cared for one another very quickly. Despite their family and the drama that comes along, they make it work.

Thank you Sunny Babe PR for giving me an ARC of this book 🤍

Just finished reading and absolutely *loved* it! 🥰

Amelia is such a strong, independent character—totally relatable and not afraid to stand up for herself. 💪 Riley, on the other hand, is the perfect gentleman and an amazing match for Amelia. He’s such a good friend and listener. Their chemistry together was everything! 🔥

The pop culture references were a fun touch, making the story even more engaging. I found myself giggling and swooning throughout the book. 😍 And those chapter titles? Loved them! 📖

H.L Munn you have stolen my heart. What an INCREDIBLE debut novel. I could not put this book down even if you begged me.

Rules of Convenience by H.L. Munn is a delightful and heartwarming romance that beautifully combines humor, friendship, and love. The story follows Amelia, the determined heiress of a billion-dollar corporation wanting to make a name for herself, and Riley, an attorney from a powerful family. Their meet cute sparks an amazing friendship, which leads them to start fake dating to avoid blind dates and family pressures.

One of the standout features of this book is the character development. Amelia is portrayed as a powerhouse, unapologetically navigating her career and personal life with strength and grace. Riley, on the other hand, is supportive and never intimidated by Amelia, making their relationship truly inspiring. The chemistry between them is palpable, and their banter is both funny and endearing.

The plot is engaging and keeps you hooked from start to finish. The fake dating trope is executed perfectly, with rules that the characters struggle to keep, leading to an inevitable but satisfying romance.

Overall, Rules of Convenience is a must-read for fans of contemporary romance. H.L. Munn has crafted a story that is not only entertaining but also empowering, with characters that you can't help but root for.

Thank you Sunny Babe PR and H.L. Munn for the ARC for an honest review

BETA read

First off, as I promised Helen, I need you all to know she is an ethereal goddess.

Helen, CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR DEBUT NOVEL. I am so proud of you, words cannot do this justice.

I absolutely adored this novel of strangers, to friends, to lovers.

Our story follows Amelia and Riley. Amelia is sick of being setup on random date after date by her best friend, Sam. However, after one particularly bad blind date, she runs (quite literally) into Riley, who saves her from having to finish out the rest of her rather boring evening with a man she has little interest in.
Amelia is trying to make it up the corporate ladder of a tech company, an industry predominantly ruled by condescending men in expensive suits with overpowering cologne and no sense of work ethic.
Riley is an acquisitions and merger lawyer just trying to survive at the company owned by his family.
Both Amelia and Riley aren't looking for anything serious. They're just trying to survive, one day at a time. But as their friendship grows, lines begin to blur, and it gets harder and harder to claim that they are "just friends." That's when Riley throws a wrench into their plans of being "just friends," and proposes a fake dating situationship...

Tropes:
- strangers to friends to lovers
- billionaire romance
- strong girl gang friendships
- she takes care of him (hello strawberry poptarts)
- fake dating
- he has a nickname for her
- closed door/fade to black romance
- HEA

My people - you need to read this book. It is WITTY as all get out. The banter is top tier. It had me giggling and kicking my feet. The slow burn was delicious, and the tension between Amelia and Riley was perfection. The sprinkle of women empowerment also HIT. I love a book that discusses how women are treated in big industries these days and how we deserve better. So much love for Amelia and how she got her power and spark back through the help of Riley. We all need people to lift us up when we don't have the strength to bear the weight ourselves, and that's the type of person Helen is - she's uplifting and encouraging. So here's to her and her debut novel. I hope you take a chance on it. Cheers!

Amelia has by far had her fair share of blind dates. She can’t help but keep checking the time as she finds herself yet again on another set up courtesy of her best friend. Contemplating how to find a way out of her current ordeal leads her to run straight straight into her answer. A handsome stranger named Riley. Now Amelia isn’t typically prone to fall for the knight in shining armor appeal, after all her main focus is proving how successful she can be in this world on her own. Yet something about Riley has left her stunned and open to exploring whatever this electrifying connection is. But only strictly as friends because anything else would be too risky for Amelia’s perfectly curated plans. Amelia and Riley begin an easy friendship. Until the day Riley asks for Amelia’s help in pretending to be his girlfriend for a family event. She can’t possibly say no but the longer this ruse continues the more blurred the lines between what’s real and fake become.

Rules of Convenience is a sweet treat of a romance read that served some of the cutest tropes and banter. The meet cute alone in this book had me smiling from the very beginning then add in the fake dating, he falls first, and the MCs adorable progression from strangers to friends to lovers and I was hooked. This book oozes 2000’s rom com energy and I was here for it! I have to admit as a child of the 90’s those movies and vibes will always have my heart. So of course when Munn mentions Amelia subjecting Riley to the greatness that is the movie She’s the Man I couldn’t help but scream joyfully. To know this is a debut novel was so enjoyable as well, the time and love that the author spent on this book truly shows and I look forward to future works. If you are looking for a sweet romance book with dual POV, friends to lovers, and fake dating then be sure to check out this debut novel for a perfect summer read.

GIRL. FRIEND. May I just say that your debut novel is beyond amazing and I am SO FREAKING PROUD OF YOU!!!!

This fake dating/strangers-friends-lovers romance was FIRE! Riley is the man you want in your life and Amelia is the BFF you need in your life. These two are a breath of fresh air together! And the banter, oh, the banter! Witty, like I couldn’t believe! I laughed so much, squealed all the squeals and swooned so hard! I adored the way Riley was there for Amelia right from the get go and how she opened up to him by showing him her special hideout (that I need pictures of, for real). As she was for him, right down to the strawberry pop tarts.

PS: Amelia’s BFFs were some of my favorite side characters, ever!

PPS: I love that she has brown eyes!🥰

“He brings a lightness to my life that is missing when he is.”

"You, Amelia are not just anything." … "You're
fascinatingly smart. You're surprisingly funny," … "And you're dangerously beautiful on a normal day, but today? Like this? Wearing that?" … "You. Are. Breathtaking.”

Strong but genuinely kind FMC
Protective, possessive but chivalrous MMC

Review:

You know those books that just feel like hugs? Like an old friend that you’re so glad to see again because it’s been too long? That’s this book. It’s so sweet and so charming, you can’t help but smile and giggle at it the whole way through.

The main characters, Amelia and Riley, are just too precious for words - truly made for each other and blind to their mutual attraction - I love when a book has a dual POV so we can experience both characters thoughts as they get acquainted with each others.

If you love a cozy, sweet and charming read this one is for you - I’m excited to see what else is in store for the Queen City Romance series. Rules of Convenience is out now, you can grab it on Amazon!

ARC reader here who took too long to finish that the book is already out 🙈 NOT a reflection of the book just my busy life! This was a 4.5 for me! I love a fake dating trope and this did not disappoint! Amelia is a people pleasing boss babe and Riley is going through it at his family owned law firm. Their connection is undeniable to everyone but them. I really enjoyed her style of writing, each chapter’s name was a line for the chapter and she would back peddle to give us the scene from both points of view. Very much enjoyed this one and I can’t wait for the next one!

Fade to black

A sweet debut novel that is more than just a romance book.

Amelia, the FMC, and Riley, the MMC, find one another and help each other step out of the shadows of their successful families.

Amelia definitely reflects what I would do in certain situations. I mean, stockpiling snacks. Need I say anymore?

Riley, well, let's just say he's a new contender for book boyfriend. He's super supportive, very charming and loyal to his lady.

Yes it's fade to black which I wasn't sure about when first reading it... BUT the build-up is gooooood and your imagination will help fill in the blanks.

Great chemistry. Great little read.

*Thanks to Sunny Babe PR for this ARC review copy in exchange for my honest opinion*

I was fortunate enough to be picked by Sunny Babe PR to receive a copy of Rules of Convenience as an ARC reader.

Rules of Convenience is a true contemporary romance. Riley is a sweetheart and Amelia is a kickass female, making them perfect for each other. I enjoyed the journey they took (although on the predictable side…but which trope romance isn’t). I hands down devoured the book quickly and have to wonder if H.L. Munn might not be planning more…I vote for Rob next!

This well written debut novel is worth a 4⭐️ rating. Amelia and Riley meet when a blind date goes bad. Amelia is trying to build a career and life independently of her family, while navigating multiple blind dates set up by her well meaning friends. While Riley is trying to uphold his grandfather’s legacy while working with his family. He has just gone through a breakup and is not looking for a relationship. The banter is great and the closed door romance is superb. Although, it seems predictable, wait around for the twist’s involved. I highly recommend this novel for a light fluffy read.
