Fall of the Witches

Rate this book
What good is keeping a promise when it no longer benefits those you love?

In the heart of the Melsheim Forest, the Enkantian witches are thriving, protected by the magic within Vaasis. But that magic is not enough to shield Mallrie and Cyan Delacroix from living under their oppressive father’s shadow or the stifling expectations of their mother. Cyan, having enough of Atherton’s abuse, works with his brother to rid them of their father once and for all. However, the Fates work in mysterious ways, and when one obstacle is removed, another will emerge, but a Delacroix will always keep their promise, especially when it comes to revenge.

I loved seeing the backstory to Mallrie and Cyan and how they grew up in the Enkantian Witch Coven. You really get to see a better side to Cyan and the reason why he is the way he is. This prequel made me appreciate him. The Fates truly work in mysterious ways!

"But a Delacroix always keeps their promise - especially when it comes to revenge."

One could say I am very excited and ready for the next book to come out!! fingers crossed it's soon. 😍😍😍

I want to say a huge thank you to ML Jewell for letting me beta read Fall of the Witches.

Woah! It was incredible. The emotions I felt in this book were just all over the place and so strong. I was crying from so many chapters then laughing and scared and worried. ML Jewell does a fantastic job at immersing you in an intense, incredibly woven story.

Mallrie and Cyan have such an amazing, interesting story and I’m so glad to have gone on their journey. I absolutely adored reading about these brothers.

I’m just left with so many emotions from this book and it’s one I could not put down. I was thinking about it even when I wasn’t reading it.

If you haven’t read Rise of the Witches I highly recommend you pick up both that one and this one.

Wow. Just wow.

I absolutely loved book 1, and was super excited to venture into the origins of Mallrie and Cyan with this prequel.

I am absolutely blown away. This author’s writing in Fall has absolutely surpassed her debut and is something to be truly proud of.

This story was heartbreaking, at times hard to read but so very important to understand who these characters are and how they got there further on in life during the events that occur in Rise. I cried so many times, laughed often, and felt so so bad for these boys and their story.

In saying this, you absolutely went to read this AFTER Rise of the Witches for maximum impact.

What a fantastic series this is turning out to be! So excited for the next book!!

PS - if Cyan isn’t taken yet I volunteer

5 ⭐️
🌶️/5

Book 1.5 of the Datura Chronicles.
- Elemental Magic
- Dark Fantasy
- Dual POV ~ backstory of brothers / trauma
- Creepy Paranormal Creatures

This follows the origin story of Mallrie & Cyan and how they grew up in the coven - and the ultimate downfall of it all.

So many questions were answered yet so many still unanswered?? This left me feeling satisfied with the beautiful dynamics between the boys growing up and also the backstory of Hesper & Winnie.

The Dual POV kept you intrigued through the eyes of both brothers and the heart break they felt over the years as well as the happy moments.

Can’t wait to see where this goes and how the boys will restore their destiny with Revenge of the Witches 🗡️

I was so lucky to recieve an ARC of this book!

Fall of the Witches has such well-written character and world building that I can easily picture the scenes in my head! I really relate to the characters and their lives. I loved reading about the brothers in this book, and how they came to be how they are.
Although it does switch betweens eras, it does it in such a way that it is not confusing and it's easy to follow the story.
I love the stange and unusual magical creatures, the spooky vibes and the little secrets sprinkled through the book.
Lots of emotions were evoked from reading this book and I just couldn't put it down! I can't wait to keep reading on in the series! I highly recommend this book to all fantasy readers.

I loved rise of the witches & so was excited to get a bit of back story on these characters!

I went in not knowing what to expect as the author has said there wasn't much romance in this prequel since it's about brothers. As someone who reads exclusively books with romance in them I was so surprised at how much I still enjoyed this.

The emotions I felt for these characters were so strong & there were a few little Easter egg nuggets I picked up on that will hopefully be fleshed out in later books!

I definitely recommend reading this book and especially continuing on with this series !

Fall of the Witches is a great read in time for the upcoming fall season. However, there are a lot of things to consider before diving in, so be sure to check the content warnings ahead.

𝐈 𝐚𝐦 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭-𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐬, 𝐂𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐢𝐱, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬.

From the beginning, we are introduced to Mallrie who already has high expectations placed upon him, and he is further burdened with the arrival of his brother Cyan. Over the years, we see the rise and harmony of the witch coven and bear witness to the fall of what was once so beautiful and magical. Throughout this, we see through the eyes of the two brothers and watch as their relationship grows somewhat distant kver the years only to come together for one singular purpose in the end.

I liked reading the two completely different persepectives on how the events played out. To me, it felt as though we are given more insight on who the characters are through their actions and the way responded to it, not just through their thoughts or feelings.

Most of all, I really enjoyed the writing as M.L. Jewell was able to easily put together a cohesive story tbrough imaginary words that invoke the feelings for this character or that character. And also to grab the reader’s attention and bring into their handcrafted story.

𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫. 𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭.

Now for the story itself.

My heart was pulled left and right as I read about the abuse poor Cyan have had to endure just for being a little strange at the hands of not only his parents, but the entire coven (if I ever meet them, I have some words to say about it). Then I was yelling at the screen when something obviously a bad thing came up and became devastated. I read the whole book in just two days and I loved every second of it, even in the most heart-wrenching moments.

As I write this review, I’m still in feeling as though I’d need time to soak in all of the emotions I’ve gone through WHICH WAS A LOT.

In short, this was a really good book and now I’m need of the rest of the series.

Highly recommend if you’re a fan of:

* witches
* brothers
* elemental magic
* sad and stabby times
* paranormal creatures/monsters
* revenge

Thank you to M. L. Jewell for the advance reader’s copy! This is a complete honest review.

I’m going to paste my review for book 1 in the review for this one because I think the entirety of it still applies here:

“If you ever read a book, let it be this one. This is an indie novel which occasionally became apparent for grammatical reasons, HOWEVER, the world this is set in is SO depthy and captivating that’s it’s unbelievably difficult to put down. The characters are so multifaceted which makes them every single one of them loveable while simultaneously being deeply human and flawed. This book is so complex but not in a way that is hard to follow and comprehend. New auto-buy author!!”

I will never not be amazed by how unique the monsters are in this universe. I have never ever seen anything like it in my life, constantly surprised by them and always learning new things.

This book actually lowkey broke my heart because I knew what was coming from book 1 (this is the prequel but read book 1 first - that’s how there were released and it makes things sadder), but I don’t think I was quite prepared for the extent of what happened (especially it being so graphic and detailed)

* READ THE TRIGGER WARNINGS!!!

(Also the chapters are a perfect length YIPPEE!! I love books written by active readers)

Book 1 hooked me in an just a few chapters with the threats of flesh-eating monsters so naturally as soon as signups for ARC readers for book 2 were announced I RAN to apply!!!

Originally, I was expecting a continuation to what I read in Book 1 but when it was revealed it was a prequel that dives into the lives of our 2 MMC's I was ALL IN!!!!

Fall of the Witches takes us on a journey of EVERYTHING that happened to bring us to the events in Book 1..

We learn all about Mallrie and what he was destined for before he became responsible for protecting his baby brother Cyan.

We get a look at what life was like for the sons of the High Witchess, the grueling training their father put them through, the growth that both endure in the face of every challenge they are faced with...

If you loved Mal and Cy in Rise of the Witches you will only love them more by the end of this book!!!

I NEED book 3 YESTERDAY!!!

If you read Rise of the Witches and were ever curious about Mallrie and Cyan’s history, this Book 2 / prequel will answer any questions you may have had. The Fall of the Witches focuses on these two brothers as they grew up, their relationship, the trials, the challenges, and tragedies they have faced together. It gives the readers a better idea of that bittersweet history between the two of them. It reads like a flashback, jumping along a timeline that leads to the present, which seems like it would just be a factual recount of history, but it doesn’t. It’s much more emotional than that. Despite knowing how the story would pretty much end (again, you need to read Rise of the Witches first) , I was not prepared. Absolute chills reading what happened and moments where I felt so sad.

Thank you for this eARC!

Oh.my.gosh. Where do I even start? Words barely do justice on how much I LOVED this series!

Every character interaction had me hooked. The dynamics, the tension, the heart. The universe is so refreshingly unique, and don’t even get me started on the monsters surrounding Datura… chilling in the best way possible. Terrifyingly vivid and beautifully crafted.

Each character is compelling, deeply intriguing, and genuinely relatable. They feel real. Their personalities are distinct and every single one brings something vital to the story. The way their different perspectives weave into the narrative? Incredible 😙🤌

I’m officially obsessed. Book 2 exceeded every expectation while absolutely tearing my heart apart 💔

Now I am more than ready for book 3 and will be waiting with open hands for it to land in my inbox (hint hint, nudge nudge 👀)

I absolutley loved getting to know more about Mallrie and Cyan's backstory. The world that @mljewell.author has created is amazing and I cannot wait for the next installment of the series. I really enjoyed how this book filled in some of the questions from the first book and still left me with many more....such as what is Hesphers deal, I feel that there is alot left to learn about her that will be crucial to the story....is she linked to Cyan in some other way such as a link to his maternal family as I am convinced that Cersei is not Cyan's bio mother. I am also left wondering what caused the 5 now librarians to betray the coven and how did Charleston know Entarkian to speak it... how they showed up was very suss as well. The depth M.L Jewell gives her charaters and world building makes her books so enjoyable

4.5 stars rounded UP

When I finished book 1 - Rise Of The Witches I immediately thought I need MORE of Cyan & Mallrie's story. I didn't even realise this book Fall of the Witches was just about them! 👏

Loved the duel POV from both of them and the emotional ride that each of them had to face individually. I love this world M.L Jewell has created and all who inhabit it (except some of the creepy creatures)

You know what I absolutely adored in this book, was the LOVE and emotion. Not a romantic love, but sibling love and love for their family. The immense struggle to try and do what is right while pleasing less than worthy parents. 😭😭

I really hope they both find peace 🫶
And can't wait to see where the story goes!

This was an absolutely brilliant prequel to The Rise of Witches. I understand the bond between the brothers now and damn did I need the tissues.

In Rise of Witches we knew something went down in the past to make circumstances as they were, and my poor boy Cyan 😭 his entire story... How he isn't more messed up, I don't know.

Mallrie was made to grow up way too early and carried the weight of the world on his shoulders. Including everyone's expectations of him.

I actually enjoyed reading this after Rise of Witches, because I knew the strain of the relationship from the beginning.

Fall Of The Witches was a great and sometimes heartbreaking story of Mallrie and Cyan's lives before everything that happened in the Rose of the Witches.

I feel so lucky to have read an ARC of this book and once again immersed myself into this extremely well written universe that ML Jewell has created. I can't wait to continue this series!

I read Rise of the Witches in one sitting and I have just done the same with Fall of the Witches.

What a beautifully well written story about family, love, loss, betrayal and vengeance.

Knowing what comes next causes even more of an emotional impact. Tissues are mandatory.

I will read anything M.L. Jewell writes.
