Broken Chords

Rate this book
Twelve weeks. Twenty cities. Two people figuring out their next move. One bus. What could go wrong?

Ellie O’Leary has known the Ryder Brothers since before they were teen heartthrob-turned-country music icons. As their little sister’s best friend, she’s been along for the ride—from a safe distance, which makes it easy to bury her long-held crush on life-of-the-party Jack. Until now. Now she’s agreed to spend the summer working on the band’s tour and in close proximity to the man who has only gotten better with age.

Jack Ryder has been a household name alongside his brothers since before he could grow a beard. As the trio prepares to take a break to pursue individual projects, Jack is left wondering who he is on his own. While he explores his passion and purpose, he also fights his growing attraction to his little sister’s best friend—the one girl he can’t have but is starting to desperately crave. When their buffer is suddenly gone, the tension in their cramped tour bus reaches a breaking point.

With Ellie uncertain of her future and Jack on a journey of self-discovery, these two have a lot to figure out, including what they want from their connection. Will their budding relationship be able to exist outside of their tour bubble, or are they destined to end when the bus rolls back into Nashville?

Broken Chord is a forced proximity, best friend’s brother, country rockstar romance between a stereotypical middle son and firstborn daughter. Follow along as Jack helps Ellie find her wild, and she helps him find his passion outside of the band. This is the first book in the Ryder Brothers series, which follows the country trio and their siblings as they take on their dreams and find love along the way.

Thank you to Kat Summers and Truly Yours PR for providing me with the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Ellie has been an honorary member of the Ryder family for more than half her life since they moved in next door to her, and Lainey Ryder became her best friend. Now, freshly graduated, but with no clue what her next step will be, her usually organized and perfectionist self starts to panic. This is when she gets offered a job working on the next tour with the Ryder Brothers band, who are an established name, as a buffer for her to figure out her next move. This also means that she is forced to work in close proximity with Jack Ryder, the person she's been half in love with for as long as she can remember.

Ellie has had a crush on Jack Ryder ever since the first day they met. But over the years, she realizes that Jack has no interest in her romantically, so she has moved on from him, or so she thought. When she starts interacting with Jack on the tour, she can't deny the attraction she still feels for him after all this time. But given her past encounters with him, her friendship with Lainey, and her own family dynamics, she doesn't want to go there with Jack.

Ellie was also relatable in the sense that she was overwhelmed by the need to have everything figured out now that she had graduated. and she feels the pressure and self-doubt kicking in as she tries to plan where she goes from here in terms of her career.

Jack hasn't given much thought to his little sister's best friend in a while now. But when he meets her on her graduation night, he can't help but feel an attraction towards her. When he learns that she will be joining them on their tour, he feels happy to have a reason to reconnect and spend more time with her, even knowing that she is off limits. As they spend time together, it is clear that there is more going on between them, but he has multiple reasons why he doesn't want to take that step with Ellie.

Jack is also trying to figure out his own life, who he is without being a part of the Ryder Brothers band, and what he is personally passionate about. As he's figuring this out, he is also trying to see where Ellie fits in his life and what their future looks like.

I feel like their relationship evolved at a good pace, where we get the conflicting feelings of wanting each other but also not being sure if they should act on it and if the other person is as invested. As the story progresses, the two navigate these uncertainties and their newly developing relationship while also finding their own footing and identity as individuals. I loved their back and forth, the teasing and banter between them. All the things Jack did for Ellie were swoonworthy and showed how serious he was about them.

I definitely enjoyed the spice, and there was some inspiration taken from one of my favorite books too. I'm always a fan when the woman isn't shy about taking the lead and when she's called a "good girl.".

I really loved the girl gang and how supportive and fun they were. I liked that they were involved in each other's lives even though they were miles away. The Ryder brothers were all amazing and had such different personalities, but when it came together, they were a team. They were always giving each other shit, but they were also protective and would do anything for their siblings and Ellie.

I did have a few issues. There was a bit of miscommunication that kind of built up along the way and became the reason for the third-act conflict, and I feel like there wasn't proper grovelling for all that was said and done. Also, a few pressing questions were left unanswered, and some situations were unexplored. I wanted the confrontation with her dad to happen on the page.

This book was absolutely enjoyable! The FMC Ellie and the MMC Jack were angsty, had incredible banter and will leave you wanting more. Not only did we have the pleasure of getting to know them, we also got to enjoy the incredible bond of a sibling and friendship group. The author even threw in a sprinkle of family drama. This was my first book to read by this author, but it won’t be my last. So do yourself a favor and add this gem to your ever growing TBR!!

OMG, this book was an absolute dream! Ellie and Jack are just SO cute together—like, I can’t even 🥹. From the start, we get to dive right into their world, and it’s just chef’s kiss.

Ellie’s this total overachiever, but you can tell she’s looking for more than just success now. Her view on love is pretty bleak (thanks to her history with her family), but oh boy, does that change with Jack😍 Their crush on each other is so genuine and sweet, but they both think it’s unrequited. That makes for the best tension ever!

Jack might give off those golden retriever vibes, but he’s got layers, y’all. He’s been so wrapped up in his band that his own dreams have been on hold. And I believe Ellie helped with that.

Now, their bond. OMG! The way he flirts with Ellie?Swoon! His restraint is hanging by a thread, and it’s just delicious watching it unravel.

As the story goes on, their connection deepens, and you can feel the sparks fly. Jack’s determination to be with Ellie, no matter the consequences, had me cheering so hard! The way they risk everything for each other—oh my heart! ❤️

And can we talk about the music tour vibes? 🎶 Absolutely immaculate. Kat Summers, you nailed it! This love story had me clapping when they finally got together 👏. Ellie deserves all the love, and this book delivers it beautifully. 💕

If you love a romance with a touch of miscommunication (done so, so well), this book is a must-read! 😍📚

Kat did a great job unfolding Ellie and Jack’s love story. As the story progresses, the two navigate their newly developing relationship while figuring out who they are as individuals. Jack is a swoony rockstar with great communication and big heart. Once he fell for Ellie, he was all in. Jack was always Ellie’s one. The only issue I had with the book was how big the miscommunication trope played in the story all leading up to the third act breakup. I wish there was more groveling and conflict resolution. Other than that, I enjoyed this was a sweet and spicy read.

Anyone know when The Ryder Brothers are coming to town?

This is the second book of Kat Summers that I have read. I was gifted the opportunity to read this book as a arc. To say that I loved this book is an understatement. I adored this book. Jack and Ellie are cuter than I can say. Friends to lovers. Childhood crush come true. I loved it.

The fact that Jack has a nickname for Ellie that was given the first time they met has me swooning. He loved his Wildflower before he even knew it. She was there for fifteen years before he learned what his heart was telling him. Ellie was the one for him. The two are perfect for one another. He remembers to live in the moment and eat when needed. She excels at making plans, lists and achieving goals. They both have the perfect need for another. He reminds her to take a breath and enjoy life. She helps him guide his goals into actions and achievements.

Miscommunication is usually one of my least favorite tropes. I believe it was done exceptionally well in this book. I was pleased. I LOVE the Ryder Brothers. I can't wait to see what's in store for our boy Declan. (and now I have to read about the songbirds. Baseball happens to be my favorite sport....)

Kat Summers. I love your writing. Your stories and your babies. I encourage everyone to check it out. It's worth every second.

This was my first time reading anything by Kat Summers & overall I really enjoyed it! This is the first book in her new series, Ryder Brothers & I think this will be a good series! This story follows Jack & Ellie 💕

I love the best friend’s brother trope & I also liked the musician/rockstar on tour element of the story, I thought it was a fun scenario. Ellie & Jack grew up together & have always had some type of feeling or attraction to one another but never did anything about it so it was nice to see their relationship change & see them explore these feelings throughout the book. 🥰

I did feel that there was a bit too much of miscommunication between the main characters which is what led to the main conflict in the story but other than that, it was a good read!

Thank you to Kat & Truly Yours PR for the ARC!

I had been wanting a romance about a musician, and this one delivered!

The way Jack wanted to take care of Ellie and protect her, while also being what she deserved, made my heart so happy!

Also, the closeness of Jack and all his siblings was so sweet. The way they looked out of each other but also having funny banter - the best!

I also may need to look into boyfriend ASMR?!

A must-read if you’re a fan of:
🌸 best friend’s brother
🌸 MMC’s band goes on tour
🌸 opposites attract
🌸 forced proximity

Kat has done it again. With this being her first musician love story you would have never been able to tell. Jack was really fighting for the best boyfriend award and I loved every minute of it. All the sexual/emotional tension left me being all giddy inside when reading. I can’t wait for the others to get their stories.

I was immediately drawn in by the dedication of this book and knew I would enjoy it. I love the standard trope of the best friend's brother, and I especially liked the part of the story where the musician/rockstar was on tour. Jack and Ellie's romance is an emotional rollercoaster that takes you from playful flirtation to a deep, passionate connection. It's an incredible ride. Although I thought there was a bit too much miscommunication between the major characters, which ultimately led to the story's primary issue, overall, I thought it was an excellent read! Aside from the romance, I loved the friendships in this book and am looking to see more as the series continues.

I am in love with the writing. I loved her books. They are soft, warm, fuzzy and amazing.

Ellie is just like all of us. A crazy fan of spicy books and she prefers fictional men over anything. She is sassy and I love her comebacks 🤣🤣🤣. She is a fresh grad and ends up joining her best friend's brother's tour as a merchandising assistant.

Jack Ryder, is the man we all need. He's a chef's kiss 💋💋. He's a rockstar and a pure golden retriever MMC. I really want to ruffle his hair and pat his head 🤭🤭🤭

The moments between them are everything. They have sassy bickering. The fun and tension. I love the way they gel up with one another.

Ellie loves ASMR videos and Jack has a dirty mouth... Perfect match 😏😏😏

I moved how their story unfolds and how they started to appreciate and compliment one another. There is a point when they had subtle miscommunication but how it gets resolved and for that you have to read the book.

I love the whisky scene... 🥵🥵🥃🥃

ARC Review

3.75/5 ⭐️

Broken Chords is the first book I’ve read from Kat Summers and I enjoyed it. This is the first book in the Ryder Brothers series and it follows Ellie and Jack.

Ellie has known the Ryder boys since before they became country music stars. She’s best friends with their sister, Lainey. Ellie has had a crush on Jack Ryder since they were kids. One day she over hears him telling a friend that he has no interest in her, and she decides it’s best to move on. Years later, Ellie has graduated college but is uncertain of what she wants to do, and that has her panicking. At Lainey’s graduation party, Ellie runs into Jack and the other Ryder brothers. Ellie realizes that her feelings for Jack are not completely gone. When Ellie mentions that she has no job prospects, the Ryder brothers offer her a job working on the last leg of their tour. Ellie is unsure at first because of the close proximity to Jack, but agrees to go on tour. Lainey will also be on tour, so she can use her as a buffer. But a few weeks into the tour, Lainey receives a job offer in LA and leaves. With Lainey leaving, Ellie’s worried that she’ll embarrass herself with Jack. Everyday that goes by Ellie’s attraction for Jack grows and she’s starting to realize that it’s no longer one sided. Eventually, the tension between them snaps and they give into their desires. With the future uncertain, Ellie’s not sure if this new relationship with Jack will last. And if it’s worth losing her best friend over.

This book was a fun and angsty romance. I really enjoyed seeing how Ellie and Jack’s relationship blossomed throughout the story. The flirting and tension between the two had me giggling. I felt like both Ellie and Jack were relatable in some ways. Ellie not knowing what she wanted to do after college is something I think quite a few people struggle with as well. I felt for Ellie when she believed that she needed always achieve something, so that her father would be proud of her. I didn’t like that her father put so much pressure on her. I’m also not a big fan of the miscommunication trope, and I felt like third-act conflict wouldn’t have happened if they had communicated better. Overall I did enjoy the book and would recommend it.

Thank you Kat Summers and Truly Yours PR for the ARC.

Great novel.

Was lucky enough to be an ARC Reader for Kat, thanks to her and Trluy yours PR.

This is my first time reading a novel by her and it was worth it.

We meet Jack and his brothers. Himself, Grayson, and Declan are The Ryker Brothers a Country music band.

We also meet Ellie, Lainey’s best friend. And a friend and little sister to the Ryker brothers. They have all known each other since the Rykers moved next door to Ellie and her family when they were teenagers.

The boys are going on tour, the girls just graduated college so while the girls are working out what to do for jobs and the rest of their careers the boys invite them on tour to work for them.

No problems … right????

Weeeellllll there might be a small one… Ellie has had a crush on Jack since they were teenagers. She can’t act on it of course cause she’s sure they just see her as an annoying little sister. Little does she know….

Jack hadn’t seen Ellie in a while as he was touring and she was at college but when they reunite at Lainey and her graduation party he gets a shock of how grown up she is …. And how hot she looks. But he can’t go there. He won’t. She’s his sisters best friend and he’s not the relationship kinda guy. And if they were to hook up and things went wrong it would affect not only Lainey and Ellie’s friendship but his whole family.

But the two in close proximity brings out feelings neither of them know how to deal with.

Ellie and Jacks dynamic was fun and flirty. They definitely had the brother and sister banter going on with them making fun of each other and throwing barbs but you could definitely see more happening.

They tried to fight as long as they could but when you know you know. They couldn’t keep their feelings secret. The relationship is hot and the spice is up there.

I loved the book. Reading about these characters was so much fun. Everyone had their own part to play in the book. There were so many side characters to this but they made this book and added an extra depth to it.

I was lucky enough to snag an ARC of Kat Summers’ latest book, Broken Chords, and let me tell you, I couldn’t put it down until I finished it! This isn’t Summers’ debut novel, but it is her first foray into non-sports romance, and wow, does she deliver.

Picture this: the Ryder Brothers are like the Jonas Brothers if they’d gone the country music route—famous, charming, and just a little bit wild. Jack’s been a household name for what feels like forever, but with the band taking a break to chase solo dreams, he’s trying to figure out who he is without the Ryder Brothers. Ellie O’Leary has been in their world for ages, thanks to her best friend being Jack Ryder’s little sister. For years, Ellie’s been hiding a crush on the middle brother, Jack, and now, as she joins their summer tour, her feelings are about to get seriously complicated.

The tension between Jack and Ellie is electric, and their tour bus becomes a pressure cooker for their simmering attraction. The “will-they-won’t-they” moments are pure gold, filled with heart-pounding anticipation and emotional twists. And when they finally do give in? Oh man, it’s a game-changer!

Summers knows how to build up that tension and deliver on it in a way that leaves you swooning. The romance between Jack and Ellie is a rollercoaster of emotions, and their journey from teasing flirtation to a deep, passionate connection is nothing short of thrilling. The way she writes these moments makes you feel every bit of their chemistry. Broken Chords a beautiful reminder of how love can blossom in the most unexpected places and how personal growth often comes with a side of romantic twists.

I’m giving Broken Chords a solid 4/5 for its captivating story and fantastic character development. The steamy scenes get a 2.5/5—mild on the spice but with plenty of flutters to keep things exciting. If you’re into country music and crave a romance that tugs at your heartstrings while setting your pulse racing, this book is a must-read. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed!

Kat Summers did it again! This is her debut into the country rockstar genre and I thought it was such an amazing intro to the series

Just as in her previous book, this story was lighthearted and full of promise and hope. Jack & Ellie’s love story was so sweet - childhood friends and best friends to lovers - the build-up to this relationship was absolutely spectacular.

From the very beginning of the book, these two are attached to each other from the hip. Not a moment passed where they didn’t naturally gravitate towards one another. The jealousy was giving. The possessiveness was giving. Everything was giving!

Relationship aside, I loved the friendships in this story and I cannot wait to get a glimpse of the rest throughout the series. The girls, and boys, were open and honest amongst the group and I loved knowing I wouldn’t have to worry about any moments wishing for their own groups - I was getting enough about that outside of them.

The ONLY reason I didn’t give the book a 5 star was because I wish there was more during the ‘grovel’ stage. It wasn’t really a grovel, and they had nothing to grovel for really, but I wish that there was more time in between everything. I’m not too sure what it is, but I felt like it was a bit too quick. Maybe it’s a me thing hahaha and that’s okay! Other than that, I loved it and cannot wait to see where the rest of the story is going to go!

I've come to the conclusion that there's no wrong Kat Summers can do.
I love a best friend's brother...I've come to another conclusion that it's because I fell to the sister's best friend in college lol So Ellie and I were in the same boat. I related to her on a different level.
She'd had feelings on her best friend's older brother since meeting him in the wildflowers behind their houses as kids. She grew up alongside Jack, and the rest of the Ryder kids...she knew the brothers before their musical career, Ryder Brothers, took off. She learned early on though that Jack didn't return her feelings.
When she gets offered a job with the band on tour after college graduation, she begins to see him differently and learns that the attraction she thought she moved on from...she didn't. She's still halfway in love with the man.
She was relatable in the fact that a lot of college grads feel the immense pressure from family and professors and every where else to have their life planned out immediately. She had the self doubt, the parents breathing down her back, and watching her best friend Lainey landing an internship kicked all those into overdrive
Jack came home for a tour break to watch his little sister, Lainey, graduate college. Then he sees her best friend, who he hasn't thought of or seen in a while, and now he cain't get Ellie off his brain. He knows that there's a standing 'off limits' rule with Lainey's friends but having Ellie on tour and reconnecting with her, he just cain't seem to keep that rule in place. He's trying to figure out next steps in terms of after Ryder Brothers and then he adds on where Ellie fits into his life.
These two knew exactly how to tease and turn up the heat. They went on finding themselves along with finding how their relationship was going to work. Jack his efforts and ways of showing Ellie how serious he was had me giving multiple heart eyes.
Thank you for trusting me with an early copy and writing a girl gang that's massive supportive.

I am so used to Kats sports romances that when I saw she was writing rockstar romance I knew I needed in! Broken Chords is the first of her new, Ryder Brothers series. This first book follows Jack Ryder, the middle brother and his life on tour with his brothers and Ellie who is the Ryder little sister. Ellie has been part of their family and Lainey’s best friend for 15 years. So when the two girls graduate college and don’t have anything lined up, they take to the road with the boys on their tour.
I can’t even begin to explain how much a vibes with Ellie. She was an overthinker through and through and always needs to make lists and always needs to be organized. She’s struggling not knowing where her life is going. I loved Jack, he was the funny brother that always knows how to ease the tension. With his brothers starting to do their own thing he is now struggling as to where his life is going. I loved how’s these two kind of figure their lives out together. I loved Jack and Ellie and how their relationship didn’t seem rushed. Kat did a great job with the slow burn and not ruching into things with them. Their chemistry was crazy hot and I love a good best friends brother trope!

One negative thing I do have to say is I wanted her to confront her dad. I’d love to have seen her stick up for herself against him. But other than that it was great. The spice was great. The batter was great. I can’t wait for the other brothers stories!

This was the first book I've read by Kat -- and the first in her Ryder Brothers series, following a country trio living their dream and finding love. I think it's a unique premise for a series so I was excited to dig in and check this ARC out!

Overall, I really enjoyed reading the story. I love a best friend's brother trope and this book certainly delivered on that, with Ellie (best friend to Ryder sister Lainey) and Jack finding lust, passion and love on the road.

The pacing of the story was good and there were plenty of nuances throughout to keep me guessing at what would come next. I thought there was great banter between the siblings and I loved the friendship between Ellie, Lainey and their two other best friends (though it was a minor plot point compared to the love story). And while I felt like there was more miscommunication than necessary, especially in the third act, I reminded myself these characters are in their early to mid-20s and that happens at that age (believe me, I remember lots of it myself from that time in my life).

In all, I thought this was a sweet story with a bit of spice that is a great start to what will inevitably be a really enjoyable series. Can't wait for what's next.

This was a super quick read with minimal outside angst. I liked the best friend’s brother and country rockstar elements. Also really liked the theme of “what the heck am I doing with my future” - super relatable lol.

Tropes:
• best friend’s brother
• she fell first
• hidden relationship
• miscommunication
• 3rd act breakup
• country music star MMC
• childhood friends
• Jonas Brothers-esque

My Thoughts:
Unfortunately, I didn’t get a heavy connection with the main characters and it felt like it moved so fast that a lot of things were missed. I would have preferred a more in depth ending with more scenes of Jack and Ellie’s apologies to each other and reconnection after their breakup. The is she or is she not shady aspect of the band’s tour manager also felt like a loose string.

Also this is book 1 of the series but there are a lot of side characters with famous jobs so I’m pretty sure it’s an offshoot of another series. I didn’t feel lost or anything like that but so many references to other people and how they all had a famous/celebrity connection felt just a bit much.

Thank you to the author and TrulyYours PR for the e-ARC. Review is my honest opinion.

I’m a sucker for Kat’s writing. As soon as I finish the first page I am typically sucked in and it was no different with this book. The writing in this book was detailed and I really enjoyed reading about Jack and Ellie’s relationship!

Ellie is my kinda girl. She makes list and love get organized. She is an over achiever and is trying so hard to figure out her next steps in life. She has some of the best girlfriends and has an amazing relationship with her friend Lainey’s family! Lainey has a bunch of brothers who actually are in a band. Insert Jack!

Jack is a golden retriever but with many layers! He’s super focused on work and the now that he’s hasn’t thought much about the future at all. The way Jack talk to Ellie is very swoon worthy and easily takes a place on a book boyfriend list!

The banger between them is great and the flirting is even better! The country music tour was a new feel for me in books but I loved it! I love country concerts anyways and it was fun to read a story about a band on the road and what life is like!

Kat you did an amazing job! I always leave your books wanting more and I can’t wait to read the rest of this series!!! Also the cliff hanger in the epilogue, I need more asap!

A best friend's brother romance combined with a country star romance - come to mama! As a new reader of Kat Summers, I can confirm that I am totally obsessed with your writing. This is the first book in the Ryder Brothers series, introducing Jack, the hot guitarist with no life plans other than being in the band with his brothers, who want to take a break and do some individual stuff. Ellie is the best friend of their younger sister, having grown up alongside the family from a young age.

I loved Jack, the country star who isn't arrogant or a playboy, a refreshing male main character in this genre. I feel like Ellie is the down-to-earth female main character to whom you can fully relate; she's trying to find her footing after college graduation. I loved the emotional drama these characters went through, the miscommunications, and the uncertainty about the future. The story flowed beautifully; it was thoroughly engaging, and I fell in love with the idea of Jack and Ellie as a couple. Oh, and the steamy scenes? Yes, please and thank you!

If you love a sweet country star romance with a beautiful happy ending, this is the perfect read for you!

Who doesn’t love a good best friend’s brother but add in the fact that he’s a country music star and I’m sold! Ellie has known the Ryder brothers since she was a kid and has been best friends with Lainey Ryder ever since. After graduating college with no idea what direction to go in, Ellie is offered the opportunity to help with merchandise on the Ryder brothers’ tour while she figures out what to do with her fashion degree. Jack Ryder is the playboy guitarist that starts to see Ellie as a beautiful grown woman instead of the little kid he grew up with.
Overall I really loved this story. There was a little miscommunication at the end but they both are able to recognize their part in it and come back together. The banter between the Ryder siblings was hilarious. I’ll be interested to see the other Ryder siblings’ stories since is the first book in the Ryder Brothers series.
Tropes:
🎵Best friend’s brother
🎵Country music star
🎵Opposites attract
🎵Forced proximity
🎵Creative use of whiskey 😉

Thank you to Yours Truly PR & Kat Summers for an arc in exchange for an honest review!

I received an ARC of this book and I adored it! Who doesn’t love a good rockstar romance, and a country one at that! Friends to lovers, best friends brother, secret crush, forced proximity, and more all combine in the tension filled will they or won’t they love story. Ellie is structured and sweet, trying to figure out her future while going on tour with her best friend’s country band trio of brothers, including her longstanding crush, Jack. Seeing them both struggle with a similar fear and confusion about what’s next for their futures, the tension and banter, and the history from their first meeting on all those years ago, it’s a lovely story to see, most especially, the sweet and meaningful gestures that Jack makes for Ellie. With the looming uncertainty of their individual futures we well as if there is one together, the secret relationship most hidden from the best friend/sister Lainey, and some meddling trouble from others, this one keeps you invested, plus the open door romance aspect is top tier! So many scenes both sweet and steamy that I’d love to have happen to me in real life, my goodness! Definitely enjoyed this one and look forward to the next book in the series!

Broken Chords is the second Kat Summers book I have had the honor of reading. Kat truly knows how to make the MMC swoon worthy every time.

💜Best friend’s brother
💜Country music star
💜Opposites attract
💜Forced proximity

Ellie and Jack's story was so sweet. I just loved their characters. Ellie has known Jack for a majority of her life. Her best friend being Jack's little sister. Although Jack and Ellie met before they were friends. He gave Ellie a nickname from the very start, Wildflower.
Ellie and Lainey just graduated from college. Ellie is up in the air about her next steps. She is offered an opportunity to join the Ryder Brothers (hello country boys!) on tour while deciding what to do next. Lainey is on the tour too. Until she is given an opportunity in L.A. After that, Ellie and Jack get closer and closer, discovering their love for each other.
There is a misunderstanding later in the book. It's one of my least favorite tropes, but I think Kat did an excellent job with this one. They both took responsibility for their actions and were able to move forward. Cannot wait for more from the Ryder Brothers!

I was hooked on this book when it referenced Friends on the first page, and read this almost in one sitting!
Ellie is a recent college grad, unsure of where she wants to go in her career. Jack is her best friend Lainey's older brother, and her childhood crush. Jack, a member of the famous Ryder Brothers band, is also unsure what his next steps are, as the band plans to take an upcoming break. When both Ellie and Lainey are offered jobs helping on the Ryder Brother's tour, and join the brothers on their tour bus, both Ellie and Jack start to feel the chemistry between them.
I am a sucker for a Forbidden romance, and this best friend's brother + forced proximity was *chef's kiss* I also loved the interactions between the brothers, Ellie & Lainey's friendship, and Jack's dirty mouth.
I wish we had gotten more of the story why certain people were being two faced liars, and the fallout from that, but overall I really enjoyed this book!
I'm anxiously awaiting Declan’s book and hoping it goes more into that ending!

Starting a new series with a bang…a country rockstar, contemporary romance featuring the tropes of strong sibling bonds, forced proximity and best friend’s brother…yes, please! Ellie joins the tour of her best friend’s brothers as a merchandising assistant and tries really hard to not let her crush on Jack manifest. Jack and Ellie’s story read like a spicy Hallmark movie. I loved the conversational writing style-especially the inner dialogue-told in first person dual PoV, as it really relayed the banter of and chemistry between of the main characters as well as with the siblings. Despite the rushed resolution to the miscommunication trope near the end of the book, I overall really enjoyed this author’s departure from sports romance into the music world. There were plenty of immersive musical setting references: dressing rooms, preparation work, behind the scenes tours and tour bus life. Also, can I take a movement to recognize the main male character’s mustache? Why aren’t there more romances with mustaches men?!

Ellie and Lainey are best friends and hence Ellie has always been treated as an honorary member of the Ryder family. Three of the Ryder brothers are famous country rockstars but Ellie only has eyes for Jack, her crush for the longest time ever.

Upon graduating, Ellie is still unsure about her career path and ends up joining the Ryder brothers on their tour as a merchandising assistant. The close proximity brings forth an undeniable attraction between them. Though Ellie is an organised introvert while Jack is a free-flow extrovert, the two of them are so compatible together.

I enjoyed those scenes in his dressing room before the concerts and I loved how this segued into Ellie’s love of romance books 😆 and Jack’s future plans.

Though harsh words are said and feelings are hurt, the two of them know that they are the one for each other. Lainey is such a wonderful friend and the ending is just Omg!

𝘼𝙍𝘾 𝙍𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙚𝙬:

Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️🌶️

This book had me hooked from the dedication and I knew I would love it. I finished this book in 2 days only because I had to go to work. This was my first book by Kat Summers but she has been put on my author must-reads. Ellie and Jack had it bad from the first time they reconnected. The banter and spice in this book was top tier and Jack had the perfect dirty mouth. Jack was protective and possessive, cheered Ellie on, and thought he wasn’t good enough for her but Jack was the perfect person. The brother’s best friend trope is exceptional and something that everybody loves. Ellie was an FMC after our reader’s hearts, she LOVED reading spicy books and the whiskey scene….you’ll just have to read it to find out. Broken Chords was so cute and Ellie and Jake were amazing!! I need more of these two and need more of the Ryder brothers. I cannot wait to read about the rest of the Ryder brothers!

Thank you to @katsummerswrites and @trulyyours.pr for allowing me to ARC read this story.

This story follows Ellie on her path to self discovery post grad. She decides to accompany her friends on their Country music tour and finds herself falling for her childhood friend Jack. I love this story, it had all the feels. Loved it! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Blurb:
Broken Chords is a forced proximity, 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝’𝐬 𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫, country rockstar romance 🎶 between a stereotypical middle son and firstborn daughter. Follow along as Jack helps Ellie find her 𝓌𝒾𝓁𝒹, and she helps him find his passion outside of the band.

This is the first book in the Ryder Brothers series, which follows the country trio and their siblings as they take on their dreams and find love along the way.

🎵: Sunshine & Whiskey by Frankie Ballard

Jack and Ellie have the cutest childhood friends to lovers story. I am always a sucker for childhood friends to lovers but throw in a “know the true them before they were famous” scenario, and you’ve got my full attention. If you love the Jonas Brothers and how it’s extremely good looking brothers starting a band together and making history in music, but make it country music - this book is a must read for you!
I loved how this author had context clues along the way that definitely foreshadowed the book but not in a way that gave anything away or was to obvious what was going to come next.
And all I know is if there’s ever a man who does what he does for her that involves whiskey…. that man better be mine. Jack definitely a ticket to my heart.

💜Series: Ryder Brothers, book 1

You had me at 'MMC is a musician and the brother of the FMC's bestie' - some of my favorites!

Even though Ellie and Jack are a few years apart and at different stages in their careers—Ellie just starting out and Jack contemplating his next move—the anxiety they both feel about what's next (both personally and professionally) is very real and relatable. *Because* of that - these two aren't the best at communicating what lives on the other side of the tour and get caught up in their little bubble. There's some miscommunication and turmoil towards the end, but nothing too intense.

I absolutely loved all of the Ryders and I am so excited to see where this series goes.

TYSM to Kat Summers & Truly Yours for the ARC! 🤠 🩵
