Carol Long has a life most people only dream of - a large estate in a gated community, designer clothes, a luxury sports car, and high-ranking status on society’s ladder. But Carol isn’t happy; in fact, she suspects her very handsome and very successful husband is cheating on her. Soon after she hires a private investigator to find proof of his indiscretions, Doug Long turns up dead, and Carol finds herself accused of his murder.

Enter Detective Ben Anderson - a strictly no-nonsense and by-the-book cop. When Ben crosses paths with the beautiful and wealthy Mrs. Long, he doubts her story from the start. But when they are thrust together in a turn of events, he soon finds himself lusting after his latest murder suspect, causing him to doubt his own instincts. Just how far will Ben be willing to go in his quest for the truth? Will he cross the line of the law, risking his entire career - and maybe even his own life - to save her?

R. Sue Oleson was born and raised in Texas, at the gateway of Tornado Alley.
A graduate of New Mexico State University, she is a Registered Nurse, and has worked in both acute & long-term care, rehab, and psychiatric nursing.
She enjoys watching movies and reading a good book—ANY good book! While crime and mystery novels are her favorites, she grew up sneaking her mom’s romance novels—hence, her natural gravitation toward writing romantic suspense.
When not writing, she also enjoys singing Karaoke, relaxing in the pool, and taking motorcycle trips with her husband. Still living in Tornado Alley, she & her husband are both licensed Amateur (HAM) Radio Operators, and are active in local Emergency Management / Storm Spotting for the community.

I enjoyed this book, which is strange. I don't read romance books as a rule. There was enough mystery and intrigue to hold my interest, right down to the last page. I would recommend it to anyone who likes a good 'who done it book'.

An impressive debut, reminiscent of early Cornell Woolrich in terms of plotting and paranoia. I know this is a "romantic suspense" story, but it's more suspenseful than romantic in terms of genre, which I liked. The Envelope reads like how a good thriller movie watches.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

The Envelope is R. Sue Oleson debut novel, and it is a romantic suspense. It is heavy on the suspense with just the right amount of romance. It is a stand-alone novel.

From page one, this book is a page turner that I found hard to put down. Ms. Oleson has done an excellent job building the tension in her story. The pace at which clues are found is just right to keep readers engaged and guessing. The complexity of the murder mystery is perfect—it isn’t a mind bender and it isn’t too obvious. There are plenty of twists and turns to keep the story interesting. The ending was not the one I had suspected!

The romance between Detective Ben Anderson and suspect Carol Long was just okay for me. I liked the character of Ben Anderson, but I didn’t care for Carol as the week, passive and sheltered female lead. While the character of Ben seemed current—a normal guy, not overly controlling, brilliant or rich—the characterization of Carol seemed to be dated (circa 1950). Regardless of how I felt about the characters, they were well developed. I enjoyed the secondary characters as well.

Ms. Oleson is an author that I would definitely read again.

Well now! This was a bit of a diamond in the rough!

I have to admit, at first I was a bit bored and disappointed. I felt like I already knew most of what was going on, thanks to the blurb. But I decided to keep going. You never know with a mystery. And boy am I glad I did!

There are several twists and turns and quite a bit of suspense. A tad cliche when it comes to the romance side, but then again, what isn't cliche in romance these days? It reads like you are watching a good mystery movie. It keeps you absorbed and entertained. And even I can admit, I didn't guess whodunnit correctly (and I appreciate that!)

I had a mild heart attack at the very end, though, but was thankfully revived quickly!

I don't want to say more, I feel I already gave up too much already! This is a quick and enjoyable read for you romantic suspense/mystery fans! (Though more suspense than romance I think.) Give it a shot!

Didn't know if I would get into this book; it's not really what I would normally read, but once I started it, I couldn't put it down! I loved the twists and turns, and the suspense kept building... it kept me up at night. Loved it!
