As someone who is still fairly new to the fantasy genre, this is a good read for anyone wanting to dip their toe in that genre. The format of having the book being set up as a journal brings a more personal experience to the story. I enjoyed how there was more of magical realism and how science plays a big role as well!
Writing is at the forefront. You follow an adult protagonist as he writes daily diary entries, so it's a first-person story. There isn't action on every page, so if you want a fast or typical plot, this isn't it. It's a subtle, philosophical plot with beautiful sentences and a focus on character development. Each character feels real, no character feels generic. There are also several mysteries, such as: what's the protagonist's name?
