When Doreen Corley was first approached with the idea of moving with her husband to preach the gospel in Iran, she was underwhelmed, to say the least. But after 25 years, multiple cultural mishaps, and innumerable cups of tea, she would find that the country and its people had become a part of her.
Join Doreen and her family as they run an orphanage, teach Christianity in schools under the Khomeini regime, and stumble their way through Iranian adventures. Doreen joins her friend's honeymoon, gets stranded on a mountain pass while pregnant, and discovers God's sufficiency for her journey in this heart-warming tale.
My parents worked in Iran during the same time the Corleys did. This was a fascinating read for me as it gave me so much more insight to the country that my family formed a connection with so many decades ago. The Corleys' deep faith and dedication to the work God gave them to do in Iran was so inspiring to read about. I know they were people who deeply impacted my parents who in turn deeply impacted me, for Jesus and for His great commission.
We were privileged to get to know Dick and Doreen as we started our own journey to the mission field. What an inspiring couple! We will never forget the evening we spent with them in a small mosque in NJ at a celebration of the prophet’s birthday. Within minutes of our arrival, Dick was sharing the Good News with our hosts in such a culturally appropriate way. It was amazing!
The call of God lead the Corleys to Iran to begin what we now know as the fastest growing church in the world. The book details their remarkable journey of the first fruits of ministry among the neediest. This memoir anticipated for decades by many other workers who knew and loved Dick and Doreen—we are thrilled that it is now available.
I enjoyed the personal stories and heartfelt reactions to their adventures. Oh, to have been with them during those days and see what plowing a new ground was all about. Their God-appointed and Spirit-led ministry with Persians is always an example for others. Now, this writing gives us an understanding of what incarnational ministry should look like, especially among Muslims.
