JLA: Created Equal is an Elseworlds story published in 2000, written by Fabian Nicieza and illustrated by Kevin Maguire. In this universe, every single man on the planet Earth is killed by a mysterious plague leaving only women behind. The only two exceptions are Superman and Lex Luthor. In the chaos, a new all-female Justice League led by Wonder Woman struggles to bring order and repopulate the world.
Fabian Nicieza is a writer and editor who is best known as the co-creator of DEADPOOL and for his work on Marvel titles such as X-Men, X-Force, New Warriors, and Robin.
His first novel, the Edgar Award-nominated SUBURBAN DICKS, a sarcastic murder mystery, is on sale now from Putnam Books.
The Dicks will return in THE SELF-MADE WIDOW, coming June 21st.
didn't realized this was a second issue until after i read it, i can't imagine another 28 pages of explanation would have helped the story much. in 1975 this might have been considered brilliant, but now? just tired and trite. (although given the political situation and respect for women the president has, maybe it is needed today)
I read superhero comics. I am used to bad. But created equal is bad in a way you can have a laugh reading it, especially in a group. Maguire & Co. on art makes it better. Maguire's famous facial expressions are over the top but that might have been on purpose.
I honestly don't know if it's more offensive to men or women! Men's true nature as violent and women useless without them.
I've seen speculation that this was an executive-ordered masturbation fantasy. Planet of women repopulating with a jar of super-semen. I hope so. How else did this get published...
This contains an interesting but quite broken Elseworlds plot: if the earth experiences a fallout that led to the deaths of the male species, how will the Kryptonian respond?
