Peace Falls #1

For You I'd Break

Rate this book
After catching her husband and boss in the act—and crashing into a tourist on a Segway—Rowan’s two-year marriage ends with a bang. Heartbroken, broke, and nursing a back injury, she retreats to her hometown of Peace Falls, riding shotgun in her sister’s 1990 Cadillac hearse. She’s determined to recover, rebuild, and bolt back to D.C. as soon as she can stand upright.

But Peace Falls has other plans.
Starting with her physical Caleb “Cal” Cardoso, the former high school football star who barely noticed her back then—but can’t take his eyes off her now.

Cal’s career is hanging by a thread after an ex tried to ruin him online. He can’t afford to lose a single patient… or fall for one. But Rowan’s fire, sarcasm, and surprising sweetness are hard to resist.

When she offers him a deal—keep treating her if he helps her brother train for football—he agrees. Even though stepping back on the field dredges up grief he’s tried to bury.
Even though getting close to Rowan could ruin everything.

For You I’d Break is a hilarious, heartfelt small-town romance full of scorching slow burn, complicated pasts, and the kind of love worth breaking the rules for.

OMG I've loved this book!!
It's so hard to put down,
and I'm not able to stop thinking about it. 😊
The Story of Rowan and Cal.
Cal is the small towns physical therapist and Rowan is a work from home accountant.
Both MMC's went to the same high school but hardly knew each other.
We read about the troubles they had in their pasts and you fall in love with the fun loveable friends and families as well.

The characters and the writing are so incredible.
I do not like to give any spoilers so I just need to say that this is a true must read for romance lovers!!

I won it on a goodreads contest and I have to say THANK YOU so very much to @goodreads & @hannahjordanbooks ❤️❤️❤️

After 2 back to back meh books this was a nice palette cleanser. Skye the doggy was so adorable. Liked the whole Opposites Attract situation with the popular jock and the wallflower. The storyline was not perfect but it flowed well. Liked all the secondary characters stora felt like their stories overpowered the MC sometimes

Immersive writing, well developed characters, and a happily ever after to just wraps around you like a blanket. Sweet, relatable, and full of heart!

Lots of professional vs personal line crossing in this romance where Cal is the PT working to help Rowan recover from a freak accident, but it was so enjoyable I didn’t care. Their chemistry is great but the thing I liked the most was seeing both of them have vulnerability. This story also had the best secondary characters I’ve read in a while (family and friends), especially the bro friends, the dog (Skye) and Rowan’s teenage brother. They were each unique and had just the right amount of influence and time in the story. Though there were a couple issues that left a tiny mar on the story (for me), most notably the quick 180 resolution of his ex, I absolutely loved the bro-group and how Cal’s friend staged an ‘intervention’ at the end.

I got this book for free during a special event so I wasn't expecting much, but was very pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it! I felt immersed in the town of Peace Falls where everyone knows each other and everything works out in the end. I love small-town settings because sometimes I need a cutesy escape like that.

There's some heavy subject matter like grief, survivor's guilt and anxiety, but overall it's a light read.

Usually I get annoyed at books with an ensemble cast in which it's very obvious that the other characters are being set up to have their own spin off stories, but in this case I didn't mind it.

Lastly, I found out that the author Hannah Jordan is a local indie author so I felt connected to her. I read the book like "this author is someone who lives nearby me who achieved an amazing dream of publishing her own series" so I wasn't as critical as I am of other books lol

For You I’d Break by Hannah Jordan is an extremely well-written romance. It’s the first novel in this small town, second chance romance series of Peace Falls Virginia. The plot moves along crisply and is highly engaging.

Damaged characters. Jordan knows how to make readers care for her characters. Each character is unique and the author creates believable backstories for them. Jordan keeps the tension up right until the end.

Rowan Stevens returns home to Peace Falls after a devastating marriage and accident in Washington, D.C. She can barely walk from a back injury. Enter a physical therapist whom she had a crush on in high school, Cal Cardoso. There’s an underlying sadness in these characters. And Jordan keeps the reader guessing until the end.

This is definitely a “spicy” romance novel, and there is some profanity in it. So be prepared for it. But if you love a good romance story, complete with happily-ever-after, then For You I’d Break by Hannah Jordan is the novel for you.

I made it to chapter 8 on audio and had to step away. It’s AI narrated and ended up being a monotone listen and hard to follow changing between dual POV.

This was a new to me author and the series sounds really good (I had all books loaded on audio to binge), but the audio version left so much to be desired and doesn’t do the writing, characters or their story justice. I may try to pick book one back up to read as an e-book in the future, as the characters and writing seem promising.

LOVE

The best thing I can say is, just read it.

This book sucked me right into Peace Falls. I quickly fell in love with all of the characters. Quick, easy read, that hits you right in all the feels.

The only downside is having to wait until October for book 2. But after reading this book, I know it'll be worth the wait.

Rowan Stevens was moving home and of course, we are using her maiden name because he who shall remain nameless is a lying cheating rat bastard. Yeah, that about covers it. You see the two of them work for the same financial company. Just different departments so she goes down to see him and catches her husband and her boss doing the nasty. This devastates her she runs out of the building crying into a tourist on a Segway when she was thrown and injured her spine. Needless to say, she is in the process of a divorce, after only two years of marriage boy did that end in a crash.

So now she is moving back to Peace Falls, VA, riding shotgun in her sister’s 1990 Cadillac hearse. Her back pain is horrendous and PT needs to be done first but more than likely surgery is in her future. So when she finally gets back to the place she tried so hard to get away from after high school it's humbling. Her mom, Poppy her sister, and her baby brother Chris have all missed her terribly. She endured their bone-crushing tight hugs because she needed them as much as they did. At dinner, she was told her mom had made an appointment with Dr. Caleb “Cal” Cardoso, who is the newest physical therapist, and in high demand.

When she questioned them if it was the same Cal they went to school with? She was given odd looks. They asked if she knew him. Rowan said, No, only of him. She loved her family, but only five minutes in, and she needed a breather. They weren’t usually so aggressive with their affection or concern. But the accident was so bad, and she made her ex wait to call her family until they had a handle on the prognosis. She can't believe how much her brother has matured not just mentally, but physically, too. They ate a seven-course meal that her mom made.

They drank champagne and ate a beautifully decorated divorce cake with 3D Rowan kicking her ex off the cake. Now at Cal’s home, Theo and Aiden along with Cal’s trusted companions, Sky. They were meeting to watch sports of some kind and relax. And that my friends, is the hard sell of the evening, the relaxing part. You see, ever since Logan’s death, they all feel a sense of blame for the accident. Theo, however, paid the ultimate price, he just happened to be behind the wheel at the time. And because he was a minor, they wanted to make an example of him.

Because a few years older he would have gotten nothing because the level was so low. Cal blames himself because he was supposed to be the DD that night. Avery broke up with him that fateful night. So he got hammered over it. But wait, Aiden said, No! It's not their fault if Logan had been belted he would be alive, but he wasn’t, and he was the reason for that. There is so much to unpack here on both sides.

To the point that words only get them in trouble, but the instant chemistry is undeniable. It's when he keeps pressing for how she was injured, and she finally gives him a half-truth that sets him in motion toward a mini spiral. She has no idea what she said, however, she should be the one upset that he wouldn’t leave well enough alone and kept pushing for her humiliating story. What indeed stuck in her craw was that she wasn’t even forgettable enough to forget her. Now that’s quite bad. Yet, he had been the big man on campus that she had a massive crush on.

But took major points away for IQ since he was dating the biggest bully on campus, Avery, the girl who made her life a living hell. See how their lives start to intertwine with one another’s in their small hometown. And don't worry her ex finds out karma can be a real BEETCH!

**Spoilers Ahead**

This was everything I needed to read at the moment. I feel like this book was made for me to read, there are so many similarities between my life and Peace Falls and Rowan's story, it's ridiculous. Before picking this book up, I had no idea that it was based in Soutwest/Central Virginia, which is where I grew up. So I knew where everything was, and it felt pretty personal to me. I also have recently moved to NoVa and feel such a disconnect, so really, it was weirdly accurate place-wise.

This is a "typical" romance story, but I'm not going to deduct points from that because I love the book, love the characters, and everything made me just feel.

The characters: I feel like the main characters were pretty well fleshed out, sure there could have been more details about the accident with Logan, but I get the feeling that there will be more to learn about that continuing in other books. Brad was the "bad man" character - cliche but some people in real life are just like that. Avery was...Avery. I guess you could call it somewhat of a redemption arc, but I still don't like her or her actions. Caleb was well written; I think it gave some insight into how trauma can shape the entirety of someone's life unless they're willing to confront it and make themselves keep living. Rowan was an amazing main character. I love love love her being a "quiet" type in high school and then seeing how that transitions to adulthood, where she still feels some of that "not-as-popular" feeling, but handles it in a much better way as she get's older, even if those feelings do resurface (partly due to Brad, ew). AND FINALLY my loves Lauren and Poppy and Chris and Theo and Aiden, I always form a bond with the side characters, but genuinely I love them so much in this book, they help the plot along and are just good people. Love them so much.

The plot: The plot scared me. I'm not going to lie, when Caleb and Rowan were kissing and I still had about 200 pages left? I was scared, because I hate a miscommunication trope. But thankfully, this wasn't the case here. It was much more than a "we didn't talk about it" problem. It was complex and derived from trauma and a fear of letting go, it was beautiful and raw and real. It was a HEA ending, but I appreciated the fact that it wasn't miscommunication. Besides that, the book was easy breezy for me to read. I loved being sucked into the place that was Peace Falls, it's like I got toe be there and watch Rowan and Caleb go through the motions of whatever they were doing. The ending felt a little rushed to me, but it was still cute and didn't take away from the book at all.

The Setting: As described above, I am intimately familiar with most things in this book settings-wise. I'm not sure if it translates to other people but I love Peace Falls. It's everything I have ever wanted in a small town and I want it to be real so bad. I want to have a coffee shop that knows everyone, a town that knows everyone, bakeries and flower shops. It's kind of like where I grew up and it's made me miss it (more) than ever. It really put things into perspective for my own life.

Overall: Yeah, I'm going to buy this in every form. I really loved it and am now currently off to buy the next book because it's Poppy and Theo AND I NEED THAT <3
5 stars for sure, this is one of those books (at least for me, maybe not everyone) that I will come back to and think lots about.

This exceptional second-chance romance kicks off a new series!

For You I’d Break is the exceptional first novel in author Hannah Jordan’s wonderful new Peace Falls romance series, and I’ve never encountered a better treatment of the second-chance romance plot. Great characters, a charming small-town setting, and complex, realistic emotions and problems all combine for a fantastic series debut.

The female main character, Rowan Stevens Norris, has returned home after discovering her husband cheating and to recover from injuries sustained during a freak accident with a person riding a Segway. Cal Cordoba is the leading man whose past has caused him to reject emotional commitment in relationships. He’s returned to his hometown of Peace Falls to join an established medical practice as a physical therapist. Both Rowan and Cal are surrounded by good friends or family, most of whom also have their own emotional burdens. Cal and his friends, Adrian and Theo, share a past tragedy that they are all still paying for physically and emotionally, and their daily struggles are realistic. Lauren, Cammie, and even Avery have their own heartbreaks to overcome.

There is conflict between Rowan and Cal from the start but there is a ton of chemistry as well. While I enjoyed the push-pull of their relationship, I couldn’t put the book down until I got to the HEA. The dialogue throughout the story absolutely sparkles and is a major highlight of the book. I laughed out loud quite a few times because the banter was so witty. The author does a wonderful job creating the town of Peace Falls and populating it with memorable people without killing the plot with details and exposition. I am already looking forward to catching up with these characters as the series continues.

I recommend FOR YOU I’D BREAK to romance readers, especially those with an affinity for tales of second-chance romance.

I stumbled across this romance novel on my kindle as I was sitting on the beach of a small Jersey shore town, desperately trying to escape the end of another school year and ease into the summer. There is a nothing a veteran teacher loves more than an easy, fun summer read, and Hannah Jordan provided just that in "For You I'd Break", a novel that I devoured in 3 days while relaxing in a beach chair, with a glass of prosecco under the cool ocean breeze. First of all, please tell me where to find a physical therapist as handsome and sexy as Cal, and I will gladly join Rowan in his office. Along with Rowan, I had a crush on Cal, and simultaneously rooted for Rowan, who like me, was one of the nerds in high school, who blossomed into a beautiful young woman. Alas, I am getting ahead of myself, as I am now a middle-aged working mother of a teen and pre-teen, both of whom I ignored on the beach as I took a deep dive into Peace Falls. Through the witty dialogue, and realistic banter between characters, I felt like Rowan was my friend, or possibly a much more confident version of my younger self. I enjoyed how Ms. Jordan kept the dialogue and language current through her research into how 20 somethings speak, behave and experience the world, something I have not come across in many current novels. I highly recommend you read this book to insert yourself into the community and friend group of Rowan, and her counterparts in Peace Falls, as an escape from the humdrum of daily mom life. As a total bonus, the scenes with Cal offer a lot of spice, which may take you back to the days of your whimsical youth, or if you never had those days, then an experience now through these vibrant characters. Can't wait for book #2 in the series!! Hurry up, Ms. Jordan!

A great small-town romance exploring themes of loss, growth, and healing. 'For You I'd Break' is a satisfying read.

We meet Rowan following an unfortunate accident that leaves her back almost as broken as her heart after she finds her ex-husband cheating on her with her boss. Rowan's brother, sister, and mother are determined to get her back on her feet after her disastrous break-up but they are also excited for her to be back in their small town after working in Washington DC with her ex for so long. By chance, Rowan's physical therapist, Cal, is also a familiar face from high school, for her at least. As Cal's ratings are tanked by an angry ex-girlfriend, he's determined to keep Rowan as a client so that he isn't fired, despite their growing, less than professional, feelings for each other.

Both Rowan and Cal have complicated backstories. It is impressive that we can learn so much about both of them in this book, especially considering Cal's backstory intertwining with characters who will be explored further in the future installments in this series.

Rowan's relationships with her friends and family are all very important to her. It's very clear that she values the people around her very much and because she left the small-town environment when she got her job in DC, everyone is excited to welcome her back. We see less about Cal's relationships with his family, however, we do see his best friends Aiden and Theo quite a bit throughout the story. Especially in this small town setting, the main characters' relationships with their friends and family are important to the story. For both Rowan and Cal, it is clear that their relationships are influential for their own decisions which is very realistic.

The last few chapters and the epilogue of this story felt a bit rushed. Often, this is the case with romance, especially small-town romances. Finding a suitable conclusion can be difficult with this trope because of the small-town element and the end of these stories is often the same. Despite this, the inclusion of Rowan and Cal's family and friends throughout the story up to the very end was a unique detail that was very much appreciated as someone who reads a lot of these stories.

I definitely recommend this spicy romance and I can't wait to read the next installment in this series!

I received an advance review copy for free from Reedsy Discovery, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I enjoyed this return to your hometown romance. This is the first book in the Peace Falls series. Rowan returns to her hometown after catching her husband and her boss having an affair and being injured in an accident (just after catching them in a compromising position). Her mother sets her up for physical therapy with Dr. Caleb Cardoso who just happens to be her old high school crush (the one who never noticed her in high school). Caleb is dealing with his own demons related to an accident that happened after their high school graduation party that killed one of his best friends. Caleb's career is suffering because his old high school girlfriend has been posting bad reviews. His boss threatens to fire him if he loses anymore clients. When Rowan wants find another therapist, he convinces her to stay by agreeing to train her brother in football. Rowan and Cal can't seem to fight their feelings for each other. Will they get together or will they let their pasts get in the way of their futures? Will Rowan return to the big city for her career or decide to try a new career and stay in Peace Falls?

FOR YOU I’D BREAK is one of those stories that wrap around your heart and give it a gentle squeeze. Even the parts filled with angst, bittersweet emotions, or enough sorrow to bring tears are so worthwhile that you won’t want to put this book down. Rowen and Cal are a couple you want to succeed from the very beginning. Their developing relationship takes you on an engaging journey, complete with bumps along the way, making you wish it would never end.

This is a captivating tale filled with remarkable characters and a storyline that draws you in from the very start, keeping you thoroughly enthralled until the last page. And it’s not just Rowen and Cal that capture your attention; you’ll find yourself loving all the characters and wanting to learn more about each of them. Luckily, this is just the beginning of what I anticipate will be an amazing series with more stories to come. I can’t wait to dive into the next installment to see what’s in store for Poppy and Theo.

I loved reading about Cal and Rowans story. Rowan just found out her husband was cheating on her with her boss and got in an accident. So, she decides to move back to her home town while she looks for a new job. Because of her accident, she needs a physical therapist, who happens to be Cal Cardoso; her high school crush and ex boyfriend of her ex bully.

There is so much depth to this story and I loved seeing all the different characters. I found the depiction of grief to be very informative and I appreciated the different representation of responses to grief. Their personalities and interactions were interesting and funny when appropriate. Rowan is amazing and I loved seeing her character growth and self-discovery. Seeing Cal grow and learning to be vulnerable was beautiful. The writing style was very enjoyable and easy to read. I would definitely recommend this book to anybody who wants a romance with a little more depth than maybe your average light fluffy romance.

For You I’d Break is a heartfelt small-town romance that leans into healing, community, and emotional recovery rather than manufactured drama.

Hannah Jordan gives Rowan and Cal layered backstories that feel grounded and earned, particularly in how grief, injury, and past relationships shape their decisions. The physical therapy dynamic adds believable tension, while the familiar faces setting reinforces the novel’s core theme: growth doesn’t always require escape sometimes it requires returning home.

What works especially well is the emphasis on family and friendship as stabilizing forces. Even as the romance develops, the surrounding relationships keep the story emotionally anchored. While the ending moves quickly, the inclusion of the wider cast through the final chapters helps the resolution feel warm and complete.

You will fall in love with everything about this book! From the charismatic yet refreshingly relatable main characters Cal and Rowan, to the delightful mosaic of supporting friends and family members, to the quaint and charming town of Peace Falls… you won’t want this story to end. You will be hooked as Hannah Jordan artfully uncovers the layers of Cal’s and Rowan’s poignant backstories, leading these two crush-worthy characters back into each other’s lives and propelling a captivating and spicy romance that cannot be denied. I cannot wait to read Books Two and Three in this series and follow along with this enchanting cast of characters. Hannah Jordan’s alluring storytelling makes this a book that you won’t want to put down!

I liked the blurb, so I decided to read and review it when the opportunity presented itself for a blog tour. The author is new to me and did not disappoint. Although the stakes are low, the budding relationship between Rowan and Cal sealed the deal and kept me reading.

First, I liked Rowan. She’s been through hell after catching her ex-husband with her boss. And her marriage ending in a crash is literal since Rowan crashed her segway into a tree LOL. Of course, she’s in dire need of physical therapy once she moves back to her small town to gather her bearings.

Hannah Jordan's For You I’d Break pulled me right into the lives of Rowan and Caleb. These two characters are well crafted with a balance of vulnerability and spunk. Rowan and Cal have both been hurt before, and as they struggle to trust one another, I couldn’t help but care about them. When they do risk intimacy, the scenes are deliciously steamy. Jordan is an excellent romance writer, and the best thing is that For You I’d Break is Book 1 of 3. I highly recommend this small-town second chance romance!

Mysteries!

A well written, thoroughly enjoyable read! I feel like the mystery of what happened to Logan could have not been a mystery to the same effect, but I loved the slow build and how we got to see the entire friendship group. I'm sure as the rest of the series develops we'll see people pair off- at the moment it feels a little too neat! I'm so intrigued by Cammie's story; I feel like there were so many characters introduced at once I couldn't work out who my favourite was! Aiden seems undeveloped at the moment so I'm rooting for him in the next book too!

Sizzle, Humor, Friendships, and Romance all Blossom in Peace Falls

For You I’d Break is book #1 in Hannah Jordan’s Peace Falls series. Forced proximity (think tiny elevators and hands-on physical therapy) makes it hard for Rowan and Cal to resist their chemistry and their growing affection. In addition to the resulting steamy romance, a compelling hook for me in this story is the ensemble cast of loving siblings and long-time friends, as well as the humor and heart Jordan weaves into her the narrative. If you love small town romance, Peace Falls is the place for you!

A refreshingly real read!

I’ve read a lot of small town romances and this one thankfully didn’t have the same copy paste feeling that some books can get! Unique story & characters - I wanted to know more about each of them, the town, and any story where characters, especially men - show their emotions is a huge plus for me.

Maybe I’m biased because of my experience with grief, but I think the author handled it very nicely. Overall I enjoyed reading the first in this series and I’m about to read the second one now! :)

After reading a few books that were just 'meh' , this book came up. I wasn't sure, but when I started reading, i was hooked. It shows that life sends you curveballs for a reason . You need to confront your issues before you can move on and open your heart for possibilities. Such lovely characters. I can just drink a Rowan from Kharna. I would have read it all in one go if the family didn't want to eat , but it was on my mind as I cooked tea .until I had the book on my hands again.

I really enjoyed this sweet smalltown romance. 🩷 I was drawn in by the cover and found the story inside to be just as beautiful. The book is well-written and has good flow. No over-the-top drama. Just normal people living normal lives, with issues that many can relate to. There's really not enough credit for stories like that these days. This cast of characters felt like friends, and I look forward to reading the next books in the series.

I….have no words for this book.

Second chance? Where? They knew of one another in high school but they never had a relationship.

Character development? Non existent. There was no growth to these characters.

Conflict and Resolution? Anything can be fixed and solved by the next paragraph.

The entire book leads you on with storylines that aren’t completed until the final chapter, and even there they aren’t completed.

Love to support local and indie authors but, this wasn’t it for me.
