Wow!! I'm speechless and slightly dazed right now. Maybe a little bit teary-eyed. Ok. Not maybe but definitely. There was a moment my jaw dropped. The move was really unexpected from Yuki's character. This was a good conclusion, though it leaves me with so many questions!!! Particularly about Zero and Yuki and that ending. It did cement, though, that there was so much love for both the men. Gah! I need closure. Hats off to a great series.

Okay. When this series began, I loved it. It was just the right amount of dark and light-hearted. It was entertaining! But then we get to the middle of the series. And Kaname biting Yuki makes her a vampire because she always was a vampire?! Okay...that's a bit of a stretch, but fine. Then we find out Kaname and Yuki are betrothed siblings but that's totally cool because it's a vampire thing. JK, not siblings. Kaname is just several thousands of years old and he's actually the founding member of Yuki's bloodline. Totally okay to marry your great x150-grandfather. Oh? Now he wants to destroy all of vampire society? What the... Seriously, what went down that made the story go from super fun to super dark so fast? It's like it was progressing normalLY AND THEN THERE WAS A SHARP TURN LEFT INTO A WALL. The second storyline acter Yuki's crazy uncle comes back seems completely unthought out and bery confusing. Not to mention, the ending is just as unclear. Was Zero changed by living-furnace Kaname to be the ultimate weapon, to the point where all problems have been solved and now society has crumbled- but Kaname is still in that ice block. Magically, taking his heart out pf the furnace works thousands of years later, but it wouldn't have worked when Yuki thought to do it right away. And who's kids are those? Zero's? Is he cool with them calling Kaname "other father"? That's weird...

All I'm saying is, this ending took soooooo long to some out, but it seemed rushed, disjointed, and incomplete. Ad someone who jas been readin it since the day it forst came out from in Shojo Beat (2006!) I am disappointed.

A terrible ending! I devoted a minimum of 19 hours of my life for a complete cop-out ending that left me confused and lonely and angry. What even the heck was that? A ten year span, was it, since book 1? Yeah it’s obvious.

Also barely any romance. I think theres maybe a kiss here and there, no more than 3...................I-no.

It’s so disappointing because the art is amazing. I fell I. Love with the characters, especially Zero. And the anime was canceled after season 2! I’m left wanting and empty!

This is the perfect conclusion for the ones who loved Kaname. The problem is that I hate him, since the beginning...
I loved Zero and the fact that Yuki only ended up with him because Kaname said it made me want to vomit
I should have stopped reading this a long time ago..

The "Vampire Knight" series started out as a thrilling gothic fantasy, however, midway, it took many weird and crazy turns with the most confusing (sub)plot lines ever and, unfortunately, never really regained its initial footing.
About the ending: You, Matsuri Hino, at some point, fell in love with Kaname. And, well, I did not.
You will be hearing from my therapist, Matsuri Hino. At least THIS THING is over, which is some consolation.

Wha? Huh? Vampire Knight jumped the shark volumes ago, but still, what kind of ending was that?

Kaname: All the years of my long endless life, I have been so lonely. Then I met you, Yuki. You gave me a reason to live.

Yuki: Aw, that's so sweet, Kaname! So, I'm going to ensure that you continue to go on living, but without me at your side. Because I guess I missed the point about how I filled that empty void in your existence and it's more important to me that I get my way than that you have happiness.

Kaname: ...

This series started out as a fun gothic fantasy, but midway it took a weird turn and never really regained its footing. I'm not sure why I kept reading it and I can't recommend it. At least it's over? That's some consolation, at least.

This is actually going to be more of a review for the entire Vampire Knight storyline, rather than just this volume. So, there will be spoilers as I explain what I did and didn't like and have a little rant about it.
SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I started reading Vampire Knight after seeing the first series of the anime (which is cool) and really enjoyed the first four to five volumes. This was the first story arc, of Zero and Shizuka, which was great and I really liked it. The story also had a lot of lightness and comedy, which was another great factor. From volumes 5/6 to 10 (and the second series of the anime), things start to get a little weird (and confusing) with Rido, but I did sort of enjoy it, so I kept on reading. This, to me, is when the series went down a dark, contradicting and confusing path that makes little sense to me as a reader.
From volume 11 onwards to the conclusion, so much random stuff happened that made very little sense as an overall plot. For me, what made the series and character dynamics interesting was that Yuki was a human, once she became a vampire, stuff just got weird, and the story headed south to confusing. The last story arc from volume 11 onwards makes very little sense and I'm going to rant a little about the conclusion now.
Now, I had already read how the series ended before reading the manga (which I'm super glad about), because I could prepare myself for what was coming, but even then, it made little sense. The general story is that Kaname sacrifices himself to become the new parent metal for the hunter weapons, Yuki wants to turn him human (even though that would mean the entire human race would have no defence against vampires, but hey, if it's your boyfriend, who cares about the rest of humanity) and Zero still loves Yuki and is a seriously good hunter. The very end is when Kaname does indeed throw his heart into the furnace, instructing Zero and Yuki to hook-up in the meantime (which is what they do in the end) before having his body frozen by Aido for preservation and after 1000 years (which, we are lead to believe that Zero becomes the ultimate weapon??? It's really vague), Zero is now dead, a vampire cure has been developed and they take Kaname's heart out of the furnace (what? why didn't they do that in the first place??) Yuki sacrifices herself for him to become human. Now, Yuki has clearly had two children, one each fathered by Kaname and Zero (I think, once again, super vague). Now, this is where I get super mad. Let me explain.
I totally understand Kaname's desire to help humans protect themselves against bad vampires, and he was never a favourite character of mine, so I'm okay with him dying, especially as it really is a beautiful scene and reason behind his choice. No, I'm disappointed with Yuki because, after a certain point, the crux of the Vampire Knight story was around which guy she would choose, Kaname or Zero. Personally, I always liked the Zero/Yuki relationship (before things got weird post volume 11), and at one point I thought it was definitely Kaname (because Yuki has constantly loved him and told Zero to his face), but what I think was really lame was that she didn't choose. She slept with Kaname, then she hooked-up with Zero, only because he was alive, otherwise, it would have totally been Kaname. That is what makes me angry. She never chose for herself. If Kaname had sacrificed himself, and she had worked hard and helped Aido find a cure or even chosen Zero herself without Kaname telling her to do that, I might have been okay with it, but still it would have annoyed me. If the ending had been that Yuki realizes that she really loves Zero, accepts Kaname becoming the parent metal, then sacrifices herself 1000 years later because she loves and respects Kaname on a brotherly level, then fine, I'm okay with that, but by just hooking-up with both, I have little respect for the character and therefore, the series. Also, on a side note, why after a thousand years can they turn off the furnace? Are all vampires extinct? Did they give the cure to everyone? Was Zero the ultimate weapon? If the power transferred to him, then wouldn't they have been able to take Kaname's heart out of the furnace a lot earlier? Did Yuki have one kid by both guys or what? The ending is way too rushed and vague, that for reading through so many volumes you feel sort of disappointed.
I enjoyed the beginning, but that's it, leave the series from there and enjoy something else. Fruits Basket was very good, just saying!

okay wow really? Is that seriously the ending to this down sloped tale?

honestly I don't no whether to say if I'm disappointed or not. On one hand, I'm glad I finished this series because after volume 5, the storyline was just plain crap and confusing. But on the other hand, I'm upset because the one character I didn't mind so much died. I just can't accept what happened to Kaname Sama, but that's mainly because his death (if it really needed to be included) could of been written better! After the sh*t progression in this series, that ending was a whole new level of unbelievable crap. I feel like you owe your fans an explanation Matsuri Hino (not saying that I'm one or will ever be one)! I'm saying this to all that are considering reading this volume DON'T! use your time more productively and read something worth it!

Uzun zamandır manga okumadığımı fark edince yarım kalmış serilerimden birine döneyim dedim. Başlamışken de tamamlamış bulundum. Animesini de geçenlerde izledim. Seriye başladığım zamanki hayranlığımı koruduğumu söyleyemesem de güzel, ülkemizde çevirisi de bulunan nadir serilerdendir.

Manga-ka'nın çizimlerine bayılıyorum. Dolayısıyla diğer serilerini bulursam kesinlikle okurum.
Birde mangalara dönüş yapmış bulundum resmen. Özlemişim hani, onuda fark ettim. Temmuz için okunacak birkaç manga bile ayırdım, bakalım. :D

This manga ended beautifully. It isn't your typical "happily ever after" ending—well, partly it was—but it was conclusive and it showed the everlasting love between star-crossed lovers, Yuuki and Kaname Kuran.

The artwork itself is also beautiful and I highly recommend this to people who want to read manga with beautiful and well-drawn characters, like myself.

Hahaha...so, I am not okay :)
I am going to leave my review for the whole series here.

General Rating: 8/10
Personal Rating: 9/10

As someone who knew this story by watching the anime some years ago, and that now has read the rest of the story, I have to say they missed the chance to tell the real story of Yuki/Yuuki, Zero, and Kaname.

For years I was team Zero, and only the mangas made me doubt who was better for Yuki. Kaname is more of a complex character than the anime could have ever shown. He has so many layers that it made me feel a lot of things for him, all at the same time: fear, hatred, anger, love, and sadness.

This story is such a sad one.

I usually do not read nor watch sad stories, I do not enjoy them. However, Vampire Knight captivated me so much that I wasn't able to stop myself.

The ending was bittersweet, which suits the story. I won't complain about what happened at the end, because that is just how the story went, and none of the characters did a thing that wasn't something they wouldn't do. What I will complain about, however, is how confusing everything was. Explanations and answers were all over the place, time seemed to have gone crazy!
I ended up needing to look up for an explanation in forums.

Other than that minor thing. I do recommend the story for those of you who watched the anime and felt short of answers. Is that how you say it?

This was an emotional road.

Still recovering.

OH MY Gosh! This last volume of the Vampire Knight series was totally tragic and beautiful. I cried my eyes out throughout and after the book. I enjoyed this book and the whole entire series! I loved this because of the way Matsuri Hino ended it at, but I'm still trying to wrap my mind around it of why it turned out how it had to be. This series is going to stick inside me forever. I'm so glad that I've found this show and the books! Thank you Matsuri Hino for your amazing work you had put into this and it's still sad for this to end, but it was over the top! Thank you for that! :)

Here's a little summary of what this volume is about, just letting you know, there's a spoiler in this summary because this is volume 19 (the very last one), so if you have not read the volumes up to this point, then I warn you.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After the aftermath of the Hunter's Society Headquarters being destroyed and the furnace that held the progenitor's heart to be burned out (with all the hunter's weapons being taken away because of that). Kaname Kuran decides on his own that, since he's the last vampire progenitor, he will take that woman's place to have his heart be thrown into the furnace so that the vampire hunters will have their weapons again to fight all the vampires that will interfere to attack once again.
When Yuki hears about Kaname's decision, she vows to give up her life to turn Kaname into a human so he wouldn't have to suffer anymore of being a vampire. Not only that, but she had erased Zero's memories of her so he can live without having to worry about her! What will happen? How will this everlasting, wonderful series end? Find out in Vampire Knight, Vol. 19 (the final volume).

Phew, I'm still shocked after the ending! Ah, It was so good, but very emotional for me because of what happens. I recommend this to the fans of the Vampire Knight show and volumes. Maybe people who enjoy the Twilight series or just really love anime/vampires!

Hope this review is helpful! :)

Gah, that ending! It was powerful, definitely not what I expected when I first started this series. What a roller coaster! Up until about volume 17, I was rooting for Kaname, I was Team Kaname, I knew he was doing something GOOD rather than turning into a bad guy, but then I suddenly found a new respect and adoration for Zero. I'm glad Zero couldn't live up to his promise to kill Yuki, I'm glad he regained his memories. I just wish the author would have given us a few pages of when they finally got together, rather than just their son being there 1,000 years later! I had to even look up that Yuki was at Zero's grave for sure (there weren't many details at all after Kaname passed away!). I mean, I knew he'd one day go to Level E, but to go from "please come with me when this is over" to his tombstone, that was quite sudden!

I guess that's my only complaint, the lack of details at the end there. The closing is the most important, imo. The author worked a whole 19 volumes to get to that point, don't make it so vague. But since that's my only complaint, I can't dock any stars, because this is going to stick with me for a long time. What started as carefree - an innocent girl teasing a sulky Zero while crushing on the head of the Night Class - quickly turned into a dark rush of the impact of a too-long life struggling to do the right thing, but this ancient being has lived so long his actions don't make sense to the majority of people.

Loved it. It was way more than a teen-y "love triangle" going on. <3

Drawing : 5
Story : 1

First of all, the drawing are beautiful, incredible and majestic.

However, the story didn't really make sense. It didn't keep up with the drawing.
Yuki and Kaname are one soul, true mate, true love, they were supposed to be together until eternity.
So could he leave her during the latest books and come back to her, to leave her again. This book was rush. They consume their love and he left her? No way!
And this story about those guns that didn't make sens either.

So yes, I will probably not read the up-coming book regarding this story.

Thanks at least for this last cover together.

Vampire Knight 19 brings the series to a close with a poignant and bittersweet ending. I have to applaud Matsuri Hino for giving such an appropriate finale that ties up all the loose ends but doesn't devolve into a cheesy shoujo manga happily ever after with flowers and kisses.

Story: Kaname Kuran has made the final decision to become the new forge - his heart will be removed and placed in the fires in order to create the mindless weapons to fight the vampires: the bloody rose. It means the end of Kuran, an eventuality Yuki cannot bear to see to fruition. Together with Kiryuu, who is constantly fighting memories trying to resurface, the three will be forced into a final confrontation with the vampires; the humans paying the ultimate price if the vampires succeed in killing Kaname before he can place his heart in the new forge.

I was surprised that most of the final novel is about Kaname and Yuki - with Kiryuu playing a very distant thrid. For me, the series had always been about Kiryuu and Yuki's relationship. But I get the feeling that somewhere along the way, Matsuri Hino feel in love with Kaname and his role was changed from mysterious benefactor to man who has always sacrificed himself. The ending is thus a lovely and clever way to allow both him and Yuki to sacrifice and yet live.

I know many didn't understand the ending but perhaps a few rereads would make it more clear. It's actually a beautiful ending and not depressing or sad in any way. I don't want to go into too much due to spoilers but really, it was a great way to resolve the storyline.

I really enjoyed this series and treasure both the great Viz translation and my hard copies. I really look forward to Matsuri Hino's next title.

I was going to give it 2 stars but that was just me being sad and crying. So it's 4 stars. I was fooling myself, still crying btw even tho it's like 30 minutes later.
Kaname is protected by the vampire hunters, Yuki and him go to the house they grew up in. Then Kaname tried to make Zero remember the memories that Yuki stole from him, and right now I think that’s whats about to happen, I’m like 1/2 way threw right now. Zero recovered his memories all by himself and it was cute. I’ve finished it... What the fuck is this. After a thousand years Yuki decided to sacrifice herself after taking the heart out of the furnace and making Kaname human. This sucks. I’m going to be depressed for awhile now. Well at least she got 1,000 years of her life, but what happened to Zero? Was he just ok with her sacrificing her life to save that dumb old guy just so he can live for like 100 years at most? Why is this so bad. Just looked it up, I was going so fast that I didn’t see that part where Zero died, so at least it makes some sense. Ok that makes me feel better.

So, you (whoever's reading this review) may be wondering: why'd she continue with a series that kept churning out 2 to 2.5 stars? For answers, of course! Answers to the multitude of questions/plot lines that never quite got their due. I'm not even going to attempt pro vs. con list. This series started out with such promise: Yuki and Zero attending a school as protectors/students of the Day Class from the Night and all the political/adolescent struggles that came with being undead in the world of the living. And when Zero was turned vampire, I was down. A hunter who's got a personal vendetta against vampires for killing his family made him complex. In fact, if the whole series had been Zero's journey in school and beyond, reconciling his past with his future, letting go of self-hatred, with a dash of romance (make it a mortal-just not Yuki- for some reluctant vampire motif) just, chef's kiss. Perfection! Instead, we got the strange saga of Yuki and Kaname. Now, in the first few volumes, we're led to believe that this will be a traditional to the point of trite love triangle between the bad boy pure blood (AKA vampire royalty) Kaname and Yuki's longtime friend, Zero. Nope. First, Kaname and Yuki declare their love for each other in the most melodramatic way possible, and come to find out, he's Yuki's brother (please spare me the whole "he's not really her brother, just reincarnated/raised as blah blah blah." They refer to each other as brother and sister even after the latter revelation.)! WTF? But wait, there's more... unfortunately. Turns out, he's not really her brother...no, he's just her ancestor! Some 150 year old grandfather-esque relation who's head of her family line. And we're expected to be ok with this? We got after Twilight for their age difference, but let this one slide? But it's not just the "romance": the story line(s) made me feel stupid and tired. And I don't even have the excuse of time lapses; I binge read this.
Here's my attempt at explaining them. Keep in mind, this is only a nineteen volume series:

We begin at school, dealing with adolscent drama, then we're caught up in a political scandal after which, Kaname and Yuki must be "on the run" after he used his vamp powers to make the Senate kill themselves by ripping off their own heads. We've got a time jump, taking place one year later where we're whisked off to Kaname's house with Yuki yanked out of school, the night class is gone, then it's back again. Kaname wants to kill all the pure bloods (yet, he is one), then we get back to the academy, where we're treated to a Tanz Der Vampire like ball "welcoming" Yuki and Kaname back. Then Kaname flees, leaving Yuki to become involved in school again (sort of soft reboot, if you will). Another vengeful vamp tampers with blood capsules (pills used to satiate hunger in the Night Class) to make the others her subjects (which fails). And we get another ball, Kaname's back (because of course) and we get the obligatory self-sacrifice of our "heroine" by giving life even in death. Oh, and she never really made a choice: she has one kid by each guy. I'm out of breath just typing that. Also, I'm happy I wasn't the only one who had trouble telling the characters apart. For me, the hardest one was Rido vs Kaname.

This is another definition of a cult classic: those who love it (and kudos to you if you do), love it with a vengeance. But if you don't... well, you read my piece, right? I feel like I wasted so much time trying to keep up with plots that went everywhere and nowhere, got whiplash for all the shifting POV's/locations, and overall, just disappointed. I was expecting an homage to Hammer Horror in illustration and a Picnic air of Gothic storytelling. And I got... stuff. 2.5 for bits of the art, but 2 for the series overall. I need a manga cleanse. Leave suggestions, if you please.
