A new volume and more tears from me. Yes, Kimi ni Todoke is one of those very few series that keep making me teary-eyed, that make me feel so many emotions. It didn't always start with that, but after Sawako and Shota got together I keep tearing up at every volume.
In this volume we have some life-altering situations going on. Shota is opening more to Sawako and he is telling her about his family situation and how his dad never approves of anything he does. And in return we have Sawaka opening up and telling her decision about her life to Shota. We also have the whole: "Which college will I go to? Will I got to college? Or will I just work?" Sawako, her friends slowly find their way in life and it is done amazingly realistic. It isn't just a: "Let's do this!"-situation, instead it is thought out, and there are consultations with teachers and parents and so much more.
I loved the characters and I love them more and more with each chapter. We see romances bloom up, people slowly getting together, school and life slowly but surely moving to a certain point. And like with a few previous volumes the focus isn't only on Sawako. It is also on her 2 friends, their love lives and also their lives and how they want to continue. I really love that this is done. Especially since I just love Sawako's friends and they deserve all the spotlights that they can get.
And Sawako, she is still awkward and at times I was just shaking my head, but she doesn't annoy me as much as she did in the beginning. Probably because I can relate, and I can also see how she has changed. She is so much more open and less social awkward than in the beginning. I loved that she was jealous when other girls gave chocolate to her boyfriend. It made me laugh, it is a clear sign that she cares about Shota and wants him for herself.
The end of the manga had me tearing up. So happy for Sawako, and then that kiss. They really need to kiss more, though that might ruin the rare moments they do, it is now so special when they kiss, and while I want more, I am worried they might not feel special to me any more when the kisses are increased.
Ah, last thing, the art, it just keeps getting prettier, though I don't really like the close-ups of the eyes. They look weird, alien even. But other than that, the art is just gorgeous and is also a big reason why I read this manga.
And now I guess I will have to wait several months again before another volume gets released. :(
Oh KNT, how I love coming back to this series and being reminded why I like this series. The art, the characters, the expressions and the way its drawn to convey the emotions, etc. And of course, not minding waiting for the next volume, giving a nice little break from the series. Then coming back to it later on. Anyway another good volume and it's a Valentine's Day arc too. Still one of my favorite series so far.
I don't usually give manga five stars, especially individual volumes, but oh well. Kimi ni Todoke is one of my absolute favorite series. I was giddy from anticipation for this volume and I wasn't disappointed. We see the characters developing more in this volume as they consider their futures. There's obviously a lot of drama ahead, and I can't wait for more.
Ugh shota's dad is so frustrating. I hope something happens soon with that. Also I noticed early on the Pin x Yano stuff and I thought it wouldn't go down this route because Yano got with Kento, but there were a couple moments in this volume that made it seem like a possibility again, but Pin has mentioned how he would never reciprocate a student's feelings because they're kids, but idk. Seems like something, but this is all speculation.
Great volume! I just love love love all the progress that Sawako and Kazehaya are making in their relationship!! Though it was sad to hear about some of Kazehaya's family life/background.
And poor Chizu!! What will happen to my ship after this?!
I really enjoyed seeing more of Ayane "outside of her element" in that we see her with someone we haven't made. (That's as vague as I can make it without spoiling it. LOL!)
3/5 A few nice romantic moments interspersed here and there but the main focus has shifted for now. Still concentrating on the casts post high school plans.
Kazehaya has a bit of a spat with his father which is oddly both over dramatized but off putting at the same time in how a bit of physical violence is just brazenly ignored. Maybe a cultural thing.
While still entertaining my main interest for now is Chizuru and Ryu who don’t get nearly enough pages for my current liking.
Favorite moments: when they finally talk honestly about their feeling or thoughts to each other, either their partner or friends. I feel so happy when I read that part.
Series Review: What I like about the series the most is that while some things about the story seem a bit hard to believe (mostly Sawako's social awkwardness and utter lack of perception), is that once you accepted things proceed in a very realistic fashion. One of the things I love the most is that the story does not dive head first into a romance plot, but lets the main character come to terms with finding her place in the classroom and with her new-found friends first. Most appreciated is that most of the time the characters actually talk to each other when it comes to misunderstandings instead of just letting them stew until they absolutely have to be dealt with. A huge plus is that the humour of the series actually makes me smile, even laugh at times and that it deals with growing up and deciding on what to do with your future in a realistic way. What grates on my nerves quite a bit are the ever-present gender stereotypes that come up time and time again, especially when the plot finally moves towards a romance plot for not only Sawako, but her two best friends as well. (Especially the handling of Ayane and Chizu's romance is not quite to my liking. But well maybe I just wish that Ayane was gay and Chizu could have stayed a tomboy not interested in romance for a bit longer ;D) And what I love about the series the most is the deep friendship of three rather different girls that mean the world to each other!
Overall I'd give the series 3,5 to 4 stars (some individual volumes are better some are more average). Usually this type of slice-of-life, romance is not my cup of tea, but Kimi ni todoke manages to be charming, realistic and quite funny :)
Every time I even think about this series, all I want to do is fangirl everywhere, grin and gush. I just love everything about this series, honestly. No complaints, ever. I could re-read it forever, and will always want more. It’s just that good to me.
They’re all growing up! Sawako has decided what she wants to do after school, and it’s perfect for her. Ayane is told to actually push herself, to do more. Chizu is still a bit unsure, with everything.
Then there’s Valentine’s Day, and everyone gives chocolate. Chizu is just weird and hesitant and freaking out. Ayane is better, but I’m starting to wonder about her feelings for Kento, as well as her relationship with Pin. I’m just not sure where she’s at anymore.
And then there’s Sawako and Kazehaya and I’m just in love with them. They’re perfect and adorable, actually talking to each other, getting more comfortable, getting closer and more mature. Everything about them is perfect, and while I enjoy seeing the other characters, they’re my favorite, no competition. They just make me happy, and I go back and re-read their scenes every time. Just swoon.
I want more, more, more. I can’t wait for the next volume. And I seriously wish that VIZ would pick up another of Shiina’s series.
My favourite couple is Chizuru and Ryu. (Ryu is so awesome!)
I like Kenta, but I just don't trust how happy and perceptive he is all the time- he's still one of my favourites though.
Ayane was a very relatable character to me in this volume. I understand what it feels like not to want to give your all because of a fear of the risks. It's scary how accurately her character reflected that fear that was so familiar to me.
Still, there is so much angst! I don't know if I can take any more 😫😫😫😂

3.5* i loved the moments between kazehaya and sawako in this volume. im so glad to see them finally communicating and opening up to reach other i love it. kazehaya's dad though, he's a typical Asian dad, he wants the best for his son but the way he's going about it isn't right. ryuu just asdfghjkl. it'll be super interesting to see how their relationship progresses from here given all the changes coming. and yano, my baby girl, i just want her to spread her wings and realise what an amazing girl she is. and also break up with kent, like right now. this isn't just because kent irritates the hell out of me (though he really treasures ayane and obviously i love that because my queen deserves the best), but it's obvious to me that she has feelings for pin and while she does care for kent, i think it's her wanting to have a boyfriend who cares about her and wanting to be in love, rather than actually liking him. i do agree that the series has lost the initial freshness it had that i loved, which makes it feel like its dragging, especially if you binge read it like i am. but that's kind of how it is. in the beginning of high school everything's fresh and new and chill but towards the end you have to take important decisions and exams and think about the future. things change and you have to separate from your friends and family, which is a heavy feeling. so i feel its fine.
Their second Valentine’s Day 🥰 Kazehaya and Sawako are so cute
I love Sawako and Kurumi’s interaction. I’m hoping that she is going to become friends with Sawako now that everything is over and it’s been a year.
I’m very intrigued by Ayane and Kento’s relationship. Ayane questioning if she really likes Kento or if she likes him enough shows that she’s still doubting their relationship. Her character development is pretty slow but it’s very interesting. Honestly I think she feels like the most realistic high school student. She’s dating but is still figuring out what she likes and she’s insecure and afraid of the future. I do feel like there is something between her and Pin, but it feels very one sided.

wish my problems were as simple as shojo manga undercommunication at least Sawako still always manages to make me giggle, back on my manga grind and planning to rewatch the anime and first time watch the new season that was released like 10 years after the first ones. hate Kazehaya’s dad and how him being an abusive prick is simply portrayed as being “strict” but ultimately he “cares”. not like i expected substantial parenting ideology from a 2000’s manga, but overall my parenting philosophy has gone so woke I get pissed off at near any media.
