It was as I was walking into the drama class that I remembered the girl I had bumped into and the green sweater just like mine. That was what had got Mrs Watt mixed up. She had seen the girl in the green sweater and thought it was me. That was the simple explanation. Wasn't it?
Fay can't help thinking it odd that people start remarking on conversations she knows she hasn't had, or saying they have seen her when she knows she was somewhere else. But then she starts hearing muffled footsteps behind her, the flash of fair hair just like hers around the corner. Is she imagining things?
The whole of this book confused me. There is, I think, an extent to which an author can keep information from the reader, and what this book lacked was a chunk of explanation which would have made this a good story. Fair enough, Fay is just a kid and she doesn't know what's happening to her either, but the whole element which made this a mystery/thriller was lacking some actual satisfaction of what really was happening. I dunno, maybe this is a whole new style of writing I'm just not used to, but the story had too many gaps. Fay and Drew had some ideas about what was going on, but the ending was so sudden, as if the author just decided she didn't want to finish the story after all and just left it at a point where a lot of stuff could have easily been resolved, but wasn't.
This was a great, quick read that I'd love to do as a novel study with a year 7 or 8 class. Very suspenseful and creepy, with an ending that is open to interpretation.
I jut didn't get the ending. Was it the other Fay who went to school or what? I didn't like the book that much, it was okay though. I didn't really understand the characters and there was no portrayal of Fay.
Swedish review from boksidan.net Dålig!

მაკფეილმა "ANOTHER ME"-ს თუ A-ს მოვაშორებთ NOT HER ME (ის არა, მე) დარჩებაო. 🙃
This gets interesting only at the end. If done with strong characters, and tight-packed suspense, this could have been a much better book. Because the story had a quality to it.
But more than the story I liked the tidbits the author had shared in this edition, one of which is, in the author's words: I love putting things in the story that hopefully make you think. For instance, if you take the ‘A’ away from the title, you’re left with the words, NOT HER ME, which represents the story perfectly.
EDIT Here's another tidbit: Fay lives in a tower block on the thirteenth floor. I once lived on the thirteenth floor too – some places don’t even have a thirteenth floor. And some people will never sit in the thirteenth row on a plane. Why? Because thirteen is considered to be an unlucky number – that seemed to fit in with my story too.
Intrestingly, this is my 13th read this year (2018). Coincidence?
The movie is coming out here this week and the story sounded like it was adapted from a book so I checked and voilá. I just love the premise! Simple and efficient like the whole book.
Fay is a normal teenage girl. Pretty, well-liked, someone who doesn't stand out. It all changes when someone takes on her identity and pretends to be her at school and at home, slowly taking over her life. At times she gets downright hysterical which might tick a reader off, although it is quite understandable in my opinion.
This is not something that will blow your mind. As mentioned above everything is kept very simple, even the answer to the mystery behind all of it. BUT despite the simplicity it is still a great and scary story. I'm not kidding, especially toward the end of the book I had goosebumps all over my body.
Fay can’t believe it when she is chosen for the lead in the school production of Macbeth. Monica is always the lead and she is jealous that Fay will be playing opposite Drew (Macbeth) – the hottest guy in school.
Everything would be awesome if it wasn’t for her parents arguing and the feeling she is being followed. Then people begin saying they saw her in places she wasn’t. Was it a case of mistaken identity? But when people become more adamant it was her, Fay begins to think she is going crazy. The school blames it on the stress at home, but Drew shows her something on the internet. Something ancient and strange about doubles called doppelgangers and tales of death to come.
Who is the stranger? Why are they doing this?
I read this in one sitting. An intriguing read with a twist to finish with? Who is real – who is not? Read carefully…
This was a nice easy read. A Scottish school girl tries to outwit her doppelganger and is forced to question her sanity. The pace of the book means you don’t notice the depth of the characters as the book worked better as a thriller than a character study. I enjoyed this quick easy read, but worry if the author dropped the pace could she sketch the characters better.
This book actually creeped me out, especially the end. I'm still trying to figure what actually happened. The whole story was really twisty and kept me interested at all times.
this is the second time I've read this book. at first I thought it was a but to childish but after a few pages I was stuck in it and really enjoyed the thrilling and exciting plot even though I remember exactly how it ended.
In another life…l was fortunate to be allowed to take my class to Portpatrick in Scotland and on to the Wigtown Book Festival. As we sat, fresh from The Cocoabean Chocolate Factory…we were mesmerised by the wonderful Scottish lilt of Cathy MacPhail. She had the students in the palm of her hand as she released a few little snippets of her terrifying teenage novel ‘Another Me’. As for the movie that starred a young Sophie Turner in her first starring role that came out in 2014 based on the novel…oh dear…don’t…just don’t.
On writing this I realised doing some research that MacPhail sadly passed away in 2021…if this novel is part of her legacy then it will be one that will last for many many years.
Fay is a quiet, slightly awkward teenage Scottish schoolgirl. She isn’t the popular one…she isn’t even the pretty one…but what she is…is determined. When one of her teachers drops the part of Lady MacBeth in her lap for her to play in the school production…she thinks now might be her chance.
However…who was the girl who brushed by her in the school library wearing a similarly green sweater..why is she hearing footsteps behind her on the way home…and most worryingly for Fey…why are friends and others saying they have seen her..,even spoken to her and she has no recollection of the conversation…the climax is terrifying…so much magnificence that would be perfect for so many parallels with MacBeth.
It is so good…so scary…so brilliant…another properly scary novel for young people. It is superb.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It definitely is a page turner, every chapter made me want to read more and more! I found out about Cathy MacPhail from this book and now I’ve read 2 of her books and ongoing.
The book was about a girl that had a doppelgänger legend. The main character (Fay) notices this once people start bringing up things that never happened to her. Her doppelgänger starts taking over her life and starts pretending to be her.
I would recommend this book to young adults and people who enjoy thriller/suspenseful books.
I got this in my first year of highschool when the author came for a book reading. You had a chance to buy one of her books if you wanted and loved the sound of this so got it and even signed! Yay! It's 12 years later and I still love it! Still creeps me out to this day. Would be great to have a longer and more fleshed out version. The ending is so creepy, I have a feeling that real Fay didn't make it...reading it now it's actually quite obvious that she didn't.

This book scared me to the point where I still get scared looking in mirrors sometimes but its very well written and the story is beautifully fleshed out and developed. Don't read it if you get scared easily.
For my 16 year old self this book was such a vibe to me. I loved the misty vibe and all the mystery. The atmosphere was set so nicely and well, I got really deep into it and literally speedran through the book in a day. Loved it, I still remember some scenes from it.
This book was a DNF for me. I found it so painfully boring, I could see it being good for younger kids but I didn’t really find it creepy or even suspenseful, I had to put the book down.
“Scary and Thrilling but in the end…ended up like…WTF just happened?!”
Let’s get this straight the book is just basically scary, because you’ve been coping with the main protagonist that maybe she’s in a deep trouble. That ended up as herself (or you could say her twin). Well I am not surprised but the whole story is non-sense. Left me hanging with my mouth open and I didn’t know WTF just happened?!
I might say the Author got lazy making this novel. I was looking for more but she ended up this book with a cliff-hanging puzzle. Still I can’t believe that this book turned into a movie. What a disaster.
