When witch Astra Arden and her best friend Detective Emma Sullivan are sent to investigate a string of arson cases in the psychic medium capital of the world, they get more than they bargained for.

Investigating a spate of mysterious arson cases in Cassandra, Florida–the self-proclaimed psychic medium capital of the world—Astra and Emma juggle accusations from the town's eccentric inhabitants as well as the mayor's questionable relationship with their boss.

With Halloween tourists flooding the place, ghostly inhabitants of the famous haunted town vanishing, and homes along Main Street going up in smoke, the stakes have never been higher.

Is there a conspiracy wafting through the homes of Cassandra like a poisonous incense? Or is it just filled with super weird people that need to take their heads out of their sage smoke?

2022 bk 343. When an arsonist strikes the close by town of Cassandra, Emma and Astrid are called into action by the police captain (who is dating the mayor of Cassandra). This is a town that doesn't like Astrid or her family, but are willing to compromise if certain issues are resolved. Another meanie from the former power structure wants his own domain and it takes all of the family members, a fellow jogger, Emma, and the Captain to resolve the issues of Cassandra. - I'm still puzzled about the title, didn't seem to quite fit. I would have gone with Arson and Old Ghosts, myself.

Someone has burned the home of Cassandra’s mayor. Detective Emma, along with the Forkbridge Police Department’s psychic, Astra are sent to investigate. Someone is keeping secrets and Astra and Emma are determined to find those secrets and bring them to light. I love this series with best friends Emma and Astra working well together to solve crimes in their hometown. When directed by their boss to help solve the crime in the town of Cassandra, they, along with feisty owl Archie, are ready to work but soon discover that arson may be the least of their worries. This is my honest, voluntary review of an advanced reader copy of this book.

Another Great Story in the Series

Each story keeps getting better. The main characters are really three-dimensional. Astra is still the center of the story, but Emma, Astra's sisters, mom, aunt, and a few others are recurring nicely developed characters.

The story deals with a mystery (as always), preventing someone's death (her running mate Jason), and a few social issues like intolerance. The story is well told. The world view has been consistent, and we learn more as we go.

I enjoyed this book and look forward to what's to come. Astra (even though she's over 30) still has some obstacles to overcome to be the leader that she is meant to be.

This Book is HOT!

Hot as in flaming! The mayor’s home is on fire - what’s next? For Astra it’s much more than one burning building. Needless to say, she has her hands full in this book and handle it, she does.
This story had me on the edge of my seat, full of action and intrigue and did I mention funny?
I loved everything about Heavy Meddle Magic - immersive circumstances, weird characters, — Magic! And I love being surprised at the end.
It’s so good, that I wish it could be wiped from my memory, so I can read it, for the first time, again!
I received this book free and leave an honest review.

Astra returns as the nearby town of Cassandra prepares for their annual Halloween festival. The mayor of Cassandra’s house burns to the ground and she asks Forkbridge to investigate. Seems Cassandra doesn’t have a police force, just ghosts who advise. Emma, Astra and Ayla go to investigate. Ayla the ghost whisperer finds there are no ghosts. Ghosts is what Cassandra is known for. And the guru is acting strangely.

I loved the return to Forkbridge. It’s a great mystery and the perfect season to read this.

Great story!
Family dynamics can be a challenge for every member at times. Some teenagers can be obnoxious and really hard to get along with. Others can be mature and level-headed to a shocking...and welcome...degree. Love is the key for sure. But sparing the rod, in real life, very often creates a terribly rotten spoiled brat. Just saying. So it's nice to see a lesson learned and a bit of growing up as well. It touches our hearts when we witness a young loved one move through the journey of immaturity and terrible teens into that breath of fresh air called maturity.

No ghosts?

In a town called Cassandra, a town full of mediums, suddenly there are no ghosts. They disappeared around the same time as their spiritual leader started acting extremely different. Two houses burned down, supposedly because the "fire spirits" wanted it so. The only reason Astra is even there (the mediums do not like witches) is because she works with Emma and the police. Where have all the ghosts gone? And why is the spiritual leader acting so out of normal? Read the book to find out!

Halloween in Cassandra

Emma and Astra along with Archie and the rest of the gang are asked to help the neighboring town of Cassandra with an arson. Cassandra is known for all their ghosts and is a happening place at Halloween. Can Astra and company figure out who the culprit is before Halloween is ruined? And where have all the ghosts gone? And why is the guru acting so strange? And then there is the star card. So much going on!!

I received an ARC. This is my honest review.

This series just keeps getting better and better!! I love watching Astra and Emma solving mysteries together, but this book shows Ayla growing up and becoming more in tune with her powers! Without her, this mystery couldn't have been solved. Fires, attempted murders, lies and deception, this one is full of suspense. Best in the series so far!!!

too political

I refuse to read books that spread hate speech against what used to be traditional values. And Ms. Leeds, people love the governor of Florida, your nasty comment notwithstanding. You need to move on past the 60’s and write stories that are fun and not broadcast your politics. I just don’t care. I will never buy or read another one of your books again.

Love these books

As stated in the title, I love these books. They are a well written with well rounded characters, good story lines. They have made me laugh with the humour written in them and not because of stupid mistakes made by poor research or editing which has been the case with some other authors.

Especially good

Leanne Leeds is an author that's great at translatig a moral of the story in her books. Few cozy authors convey the "heart" of a book better than Leeds. It's one of the reasons I'm such a fan. This book was especially deep with lots of ideas to contemplate.

I’m really enjoying this series and this book concentrates a little more on the people around Astra, particularly her sisters. This time Astra and Emma are investigating a mysterious fire that burned down the house of the Mayor, in the neighbouring town of Cassandra.

Good but...

Good read but the whole, "I do not believe" is wearing thin. Need to move that theme along a bit more . Overall, the secondary characters are getting more interesting than the protagonist.

Absolutely loved it! I’m wanting to visit the real Cassandra now, which is actually not far from me! Unfortunately, it’s not as amazing as it is in the book. This book had some messed up people in it. Power definitely corrupts! I really like the way everything was resolved at the end.

Intolerance

The two factions were intolerant with each other. By the major stepping out and asking for help. Things changed significantly and cooperation helped them stop what was going on.

Good

Very interesting story. Ayla comes into her own while going through the terrible teens.( Ugh ,sorry Mom and Dad) What a reminder. The town of Cassandra needs Arden's help. As tra and Emma can't do this without each Arden. But Ayla's teen angst is getting in the way

Happy Halloween

I love this book and all the others. This one struck a note because I love no face. I have statues of him. And I want to try and see my son tonight and try to talk my spirit friend to come back. Can't wait for the next one.

Love this book

I love the characters in this series. And all the pop culture references like to Star Wars and Loki. It somehow makes the story feel more real. Like they're in our world.
