The second premium box set of One Piece, one of the most beloved and bestselling manga series of all time!
This set includes volumes 24-46, which comprise the third and fourth story arcs of the series, Skypeia and Water Seven. With exclusive premiums and great savings over buying the individual volumes, this set is a pirate's treasure for any manga fan!
As a child, Monkey D. Luffy dreamed of becoming King of the Pirates. But his life changed when he accidentally gained the power to stretch like rubber - at the cost of never being able to swim again! Years, later, Luffy sets off in search of the "One Piece," said to be the greatest treasure in the world...
Eiichiro Oda (尾田栄一郎, Oda Eiichirō) is a Japanese manga artist, best known as the creator of the manga and anime One Piece.
As a child, Oda was inspired by Akira Toriyama's works and aspired to become a manga artist. He recalls that his interest in pirates was probably sparked by the popular TV animation series titled Vicky the Viking. He submitted a character named Pandaman for Yudetamago's classic wrestling manga Kinnikuman. Pandaman was not only used in a chapter of the manga but would later return as a recurring cameo character in Oda's own works.

I'm so glad that VIZ finally put together another boxset for One Piece, especially considering the number of volumes that are currently available. The bonus exclusive "Strong World" chapter is icing on the cake. Also love the fact that the box contains the newest printings, which have small labels printed on each of the spines with the corresponding arc. Can't recommend it enough for fans who want to continue their collection. Can't wait for the third box :)
This is so good! I love this crew, every single one of them. Their dedication and love for each other are just top-notch to see, and their individual one on one clashing chemistries as well.
Water 7 saga is definitely one of my favourite sagas till now, I absolutely loved all 4 arcs in it! Such an important saga in terms of establishing so many things for the bigger picture as well as for the flushing out every single crew member's personality as well!
Enies Lobby got to be my favourite arc till now, it was everything I love about storytelling and the impact of fiction while reading! Robin's backstory absolutely killed me and the aftermath actions of the crew to make her believe that she can rely on them and just ahhh!!! I absolutely loved it!!
I have absolutely sobbed like a baby so many times in the last around 450 chapters that it's not even funny. Oda is a master of writing the most elaborate and such individually brilliant worlds throughout, but still managing to weave them together for our overarching story, while managing to make it one of the most character-driven stories I have read is just sheer brilliance.
Oda made me cry over a fucking boat and I literally have nothing more to speak! Reading One piece was one of the best decisions of my life and I just adore it so much!
There are enough small problems here and there that calling “One Piece” a masterpiece is a stretch, but it’s certainly close. I read this second batch of chapters via Shonen Jump app, not a boxed set but I figured this would be the easiest way to log. This box includes the following arcs: Jaya: 9/10; a really good plot heavy arc with some fantastic themes and a couple iconic scenes. This focuses really heavily on dreams but also ties back to early scenes from the series, and sets up what’s to come. That Blackbeard’s excellent introduction is basically a side note says a lot about the quality of everything else Sky Island: 6/10; continues with some excellent themes and we get a really strong flashback and some mythology that seems important, even if I don’t know how yet. The pacing drags a bit, and the bulk of the fights and henchmen feel unnecessary here, but it’s certainly good. Long Ring Long Land: 7/10; I mostly skipped this in my side by side anime watch but in the manga it’s a solid arc without too many implications. A lot of fun, and the last few chapters are rather important, but also really badass. Water 7: 10/10; so much good going on here. The themes of betrayal running throughout this arc ties together so well and it has a great flashback and solid series of supporting cast. I also enjoy how for most of this arc, there is no clear big bad, and most of it is about conflict within the crew, which is cool Enies Lobby: 9/10; the sea train stuff can feel a bit dragged out but overall excellent, with arguably the best scene in the entire box set, if not the series. Post-Enies Lobby: 10/10; like Jaya, but better. Tons of plot, great art, and pushes the story in new directions
What a amazing series! One of the main messages of the story is to enjoy the journey not the goal. This is proven to the reader when our main protagonist declines to be told what the One Piece actually is. This is why we are still uncovering major revelations many many years after the story started. One Piece always has the long game in mind when it first began decades ago. Main characters who were first introduced in the beginning are now having their full backstory told just as recently as a few years ago. This is a testament to the characters we are on this ride with, they are so likable and well rounded that we never questioned their full back story because none of that truly mattered. However it is nice to know that there was always space for this extra story telling to be told to us. Having these added layers saved for later is enough make us fall in love with our heroes even more.
One Piece isn’t without it’s faults. The size of it is enough to scare away new comers. However for those willing to invest the time will come away with a true one of a kind journey. It is worth the price of admission.
I had very mixed feelings on this one, Jaya was great but I didn't get into Skypea at all and ended up shelving it before Ennies Lobby.
Thankfully the wonderful live action adaptation revived my interest in the series and I'm really glad I finished it, since Ennies Lobby was my favorite arc so far by far, and the Post-Ennies Lobby worldbuilding makes me want to keep going and find out more about the players in the background. (Taking the time to go around the world to see the crew's friends at home reading about their escapades was such a neat touch)
One thing I really don't like is that with the scope of the fights increasing the black and white medium of manga caused me to often not understand what's going on in the frame, getting me to reach for the digital colored version at times to comprehend the scene.
i cry at least once per arc except for water 7/enies lobby where i just cry the whole time. also, very fun to reread skypiea as a person who is up to date on the manga
Jaya arc: 5 stars Skypeia arc: 5 stars Davy Jones Fight arc: 2 stars Water 7 arc: 5 stars Enies Lobby + post arc: 5 stars
Alternated between reading and watching.
All the long arcs are absolutely wonderful. They shine particularly bright towards the end, when everything culminates. The length of the story brings about incredible pay offs and gives the story more than ample space to be told. On that matter, I hesitated between giving this one 4 or 5 stars since I did feel like the Water 7 arc was too long but I attribute that to watching part of it in anime format; in the manga, everything flows quickly and things rarely feel like they are being dragged. I think that from here on I'll be sticking with the manga only.
That said, awesome story once again. Irresistibly funny, terribly fun and sometimes very moving too. I did have my doubts on the Usopp/Merry storyline but the pay off was absolutely terrific and the issues I had were later adressed (by Zoro of course *x*).
Jaya, the ending to Skypeia, the whole of Enies Lobby were all absolutely great.
The characters, the storytelling, everything is handled expertly.
I do have some minor qualms here and there: Zoro who is a bit *too* stoic, the way women vs men values are presented etc but these are more personal biases and even though I would have chosen differently, I can still see why the writer made the choices he made.
All in all, really enjoyed this!
Also, shoutout for Wyper, Enel and Zoro and Smoker again!
Since this box set has multiple arcs, I’m going to be logging this multiple times as I finish the arcs to come back and review. Each arc will count as a book toward my reading goal for the year! So without further ado:
Skypiea - this arc was cute and lighthearted and fun. The pacing suffered a bit, but I enjoyed the story overall. It had a good number of laughs and the cover stories following Wapol and then Ace were both great. Moving in to Water Seven and with how light this arc was on the plot, I am afraid for how intense I know the next one is lol. That being said, if anyone tells you to skip this arc you have my permission to slap them. While it doesn’t progress the main plot, the character development is important and there’s a lot of detail you won’t want to miss. It’s also just enjoyable. Not the best arc of the series but likable and relevant. The mental break everyone needed before the story gets intense again.
Foxy - This is just like two books of content but it’s fun and quick and I’ve been told the story gets heavy after this and to enjoy this part lol.
