I'm not a fan of Senri, but his scenes are always so rediculous to read. This volume was so funny and I liked seeing the stragglers again.

3.75 Stars!

This volume was definitely pure filler, but I love that we finally got a Tsukino-centric story. Her having a traumatic backstory is something I should’ve remembered/seen coming because literally everyone in this series has childhood trauma. Kids are so mean in middle school (I know it was 5th grade, but pre-teens are pre-teens), it takes years to try and get over all the things you hear, poor Tsukino. CURSE THEM.

“I don’t care much for her.” - No please Tsukino, give Ume a chance, she loves you! I’m glad we got to see this friendship develop as well because I love found family friend groups like the Stragglers, but I think there’s also a lot of potential for individual friendships within a group like this, so it was just interesting to see. I feel like Maki Minami gives more depth to their supporting characters than (for example) Io Sakisaka with Strobe Edge. That series was about Ninako and her love life and occasionally a few of her friends got to shine. Here, I feel like we learn a lot about Hime’s friends (well not Mitchy but I don’t care about him). 10/10 on the art for Ume’s freakout, by the way - she was terrifying.

Also, Tsukino might be Hime’s ride-or-die, but Hime is her #1 fan/cheerleader/supporter - whatever you wanna call it. Their friendship is so precious to me, it’s genuinely one of my favourite manga friendships and I need everyone to know that.

Hime and those in the professional space around her don’t realize this yet, but seeing Tsukino’s face when Hime mentions what it means to be a pro wasn’t just a profound moment for Tsukino, but also an example of Hime’s growing professionalism and maturity and growth.

Again, memory nonexistent because I completely forgot that Hime had to wear Shiro’s costume and essentially be a children’s entertainer at the amusement park. Her using what she learned from the previous volume in such a comical way is a very Hime thing to do. She genuinely doesn’t see it as demeaning as was implied, she was just so happy making the kids happy because she wanted to give them that same feeling that she had as a kid. The intention behind her dream has always been so pure, that you can’t help but wish for her to succeed.

I know this was pure filler, but this volume kind of sold Hime and Senri as a couple for me. I know I said I wanted more Senri, but not like this. But actually exactly like this because of course Hime’s luck is gonna have him sleeping in the storage room that she went to take a nap in. Their height difference is also ridiculous, I’m never gonna shut up about it. And that scene was even funnier with how Senri just looks at her for half a second and then goes back to sleep. But y’all, who puts a fever scene and a ‘oh no we’re locked in at school together’ moment in a fucking filler volume?! Like, Senri grabbed onto one of her hair ties and one of her braids came loose and why the fuck did that feel romantic??? (Hime please let your hair down more) Also, Hime having a meltdown over the binaural recording she did with Senri will never stop being funny to me! I don’t care how traumatized she is, that shit was hilarious and her trying to desensitize herself to his voice by listening to the CD over and over again was absolutely perfect.

Details that I hyperfocused because why not:
-I can’t believe that this is the last we really saw of Fujimori, what a waste, I wanted more of him! (come back to me)
-I need to see Tsukino in that high ponytail again because it is just so cute!
-Tsukino’s bedroom makes me think of Hana-chan’s from Fruits Basket, but with pastels.
-Hime and Sho basically forcing Mitchy to do Tsukino’s script - Hime through her enthusiasm and Sho via insults (affectionate)
-Mizuki was tolerable, the support for Hime felt like genuine friendship and I do like his take-charge attitude. I genuinely didn’t mind the more romantic undertones of Mizuki and Hime’s scene with the candy apple, I just think it’s really funny that she left a candy apple for Senri as well and Mizuki is sitting here thinking he’s so fucking special.
-“Mouth to mouth hydration” - Hime be so fucking for real, why is she like this??
-OKAY HIME MISS BADASS!!! I mean it was probably a second-story window at best, but my girl still jumped out of a window and landed on her feet with a grace she doesn’t even have while walking. I also really liked the shading choice for that scene to kind of ‘show’ that action of Hime jumping from a window!
-Wtf is a mid-vacation school day???
-LMFAO at Yamada sitting by her bed all menacing with a sign telling her to rest as if he’s not worried about her, that asshole. You’re not fooling anyone!
-Ume please, blushing immediately at Sho’s name and then trying to deny having a crush on him, when no one even accused you of having a crush on him, is truly unhinged behaviour and I love you for it.
-Ew, Mitchy’s Room is back too, but at least we get to see Tsukino inflicting pain.

So I’ve really gotten into Voice Over! more than I expected to. When I read the first three volumes, I thought that story was going to meander around about how Hime is going to do her best to better a better seiyu and that’s the whole plot. But I’m really enjoying reading this series.

What I think works is that we are seeing Hime’s improvement throughout the series, and the fact that a lot of her roles are playing to her strengths rather than her trying to do her Lovely*Blazer princess voice and failing. I really like that this opens up with her doing a bunch of minor studio work for the reason to get used to that atmosphere, and I think there’s even a hint of forcing her to work with people she doesn’t like (re: Senri) or on projects that don’t mean anything to beef up her experience. That said though, the phantom Senri whispering in her ear kind of got a little too over-the-top for me at one point, but I liked that the resolution was more to do with “Hime needs to get over this and do her job” and less of “Oh no I think I like him!” (That said, I actually ship Hime/Mizuki over supporting the main pairing of Hime/Senri. I like Mizuki, he’s really sweet to her, and I loved the opening chapter where he encourages her to go onstage at the Beast Renjai show. And the candy apple thing was adorable.)

I also like that we’re finally getting backstory and development on the rest of the cast. For as convoluted as the chapter of Hime finding herself locked in the school with Senri was, it was still a fun little chapter and I liked that we got a little more insight in Senri’s past (which then picks up more in the next volume). I loved the Tsukino chapters that we got in the end. I really like Tsukino, but it feels that she’s regulated to the sidelines most of the time, and that we’re finally getting into why she’s so shy and quiet. And I liked that things between her friends are complicated—yeah, everyone wants to do Ume’s script that Tsukino doesn’t want to do for her own reasons, but they’re still supportive of Tsukino and try to find a way around it. I liked that Tsukino’s reaction is “No, I don’t want to do it.”

Seriously, this is a really cute series that could have meandered on for a good five or six volumes, but I’ve been really enjoying what I’ve read thus far. It’s one of those where you do have to give it a volume or so to pick up with the plot, but once it takes off, it’s really well done.

THE GOOD

Hime/Shiro: After The successful of her very first role as Shiro in Beast Renjai, Hime is getting bit parts by the bucket load! But there is a problem, the boys love project has left her traumatized when ever she hears Senri Kudo's voice! And unfortunately for her, he's in a lot of the same jobs! But when he gets sick, she manages to fight through the unease to help him, which was vertu admirable.

Mizuki: Love him.

THE BAD

Tsukino and Ume: I don't know what it is about this two girls, but I just can't seem to like them very much. Tsukino's obsession with Hime is creepy, and Ume is a very rude girl.

~4/5

I just love this series. Has that become apparent yet? Because I seriously do. I’m just a fan of Minami’s at this point, and am already excited to read her new series.

I love that Hime takes her budding career seriously. She is always thinking about her career and how to make herself better, and she’s hard on herself, pushing herself to do better. I respect that, and genuinely appreciate that there is time taken to develop her as a voice actor. Even with all the craziness and the budding romances and rivalries, there is time for the characters to grow. At least, for Hime. Plus, she just wants to make people happy, and I like that.

This volume focuses a bit on the friendships between the girls, including some backstory on Tsukino. I like their friendship, and it was nice to see Tsukino and Ume actually get over their problem. I hope that we get to see the performance they were working on in the next volume.

Then there’s the romances. Mizuki is pretty blatant about his attraction to Hime at this point, though she’s oblivious. And then, finally, Hime and Kudo had a real interaction! And it was fantastic. Plus, Hime is still freaking out when she has to hear Kudo’s voice, and I love it. I hope there’s more in the next volume.

This volume was fantastic, and since the next one is already on my shelf, I will be reading it immediately.

Seiyuu-ka! a.k.a Voice Over!

The rating and review are conclusion for all of the volumes. Except for the synopsis.

Okay. This is a good story to pass my time before I start to concentrate on my final exam. It is not a slow pace story. I had fun reading this because there are some funny moments.

However, I don't give this manga a high rating because I don't admire the drawing. I could say the story is not so bad but what interests me the most about manga comic is the drawing. The characters for this story is good I guess. I mean, for example, the hero of this manga feels like a robot. I don't really like that.

I mean it's all good but I just don't feel it that much you know? There are a few sad scenes but it's not enough to trigger my emotions. So I kind of feel that this manga is not 'compatible' with me. You might want to try it out as it is not so bad. But for me, I like other manga compared to this.

I've just realized that I've read this manga before but I just can't quite remember the flow of the story. That's how I know I just don't enjoy it so much.

Synopsis for volume 7:
Summer vacation had finally start. Hime is working for her new job with a new type of character. What's more shocking is that she will be working with Kudou Senri!

Shiro finally gets through all of the summer jobs that Yamada P scheduled and has avoided seeing Senri the entire summer. Shiro/Hime is still having trouble concentrating because of Senri’s voice acting on the BL cd that they did together. Hime finally has a day off and decides to spend it at the festival with her friends. Mizuki’s feelings seem to finally start showing more even though Yamada P warned him about his feelings for Hime.

Overall this is a great volume while not as many things happened throughout this volume it was still a solid foundation for future volumes to come.

I received this advanced copy from VIZ Media through Edelweiss in exchange for my honest review.

Nothing special in this volume.

Rasanya memang sulit menghindari trauma masa lalu. Mungkin butuh kehadiran orang2 terdekat yang meyakinkan bahwa kita bisa bangkit untuk mengatasi trauma tersebut.

This is more of a 2.5, but I decided to round up because I do like the characters. The problem with this volume is that nothing really happens. There's very little movement forward and I'd be happier to stop getting background on other characters in just as much prominence as the main, especially since we very rarely see Senri Kudo.
