From Kyra Davis, New York Times bestselling author of Just One Night, comes Book Two in the Pure Sin series that Sinfully Sexy is calling “angsty, intriguing, and off the charts sexy.”
The beautiful, angry Bell has revenge in her heart and Lander Gable in her sights. She’s seduced her way into his arms with the intent to destroy his wealthy family. But now that she’s there, lust and passion have begun squeezing out that desire for vengeance. It’s a dangerous game Bell is playing, and sex, mystery, and lies are the most intriguing game pieces of all.
New York Times bestselling author of JUST ONE NIGHT, DECEPTIVE INNOCENCE, the Sophie Katz mysteries, SO MUCH FOR MY HAPPY ENDING and the upcoming DANGEROUS ALLIANCE, JUST ONCE MORE and JUST ONE LIE (July 28th, 2015).
Initial reaction: A satisfying end to the duology. I love the blend of mystery, crime, and sensuality this book had, with well developed characters.
Full review:
Another retro review, this time for a series I finished in May of 2019. Man, this read was overdue for me to pick up and well worth the time. I've mentioned before that I love Kyra Davis's writing - her eye to details, the complexity of her characters, the intimate sensuality of the writing, both with the sexual scenes and outside of that. It was quite a while ago that I was able to pick up "Just One Night" and one of the serial installations of the first book of the "Pure Sin" duology from NetGalley, which ultimately led me to read those books in full outside of their serials. I'm not sure why it took me so long to pick up "Dangerous Alliance", but I'm glad that I was able to read where I left off with no problems.
When we last left Bell/Adoncia, she was on a invested quest for revenge against the Gable family, established as a femme fatale of sorts in the first book. Her mother's death and forced downfall at the hands of the Gable family is her prime motivation for going after them. Particularly the cold hearted Travis, who Bell has in her sights to take down once and for all, from within the family. Travis's wife Jessica is just another player in the larger game set in Bell's larger manipulations, though she is a more complicated foe than she looks. However, Bell doesn't expect to feel what she feels for Travis's brother, Lander, nor does she realize that he discovers her true motivations aside from her hidden identity - a major point left from the previous story. Their sensual chemistry is molten hot lava bomb steamy (I promise I'm not exaggerating - it doesn't hold back). What Bell doesn't know is that Lander is an unexpected ally willing to take down his family as well, and the two form an unlikely alliance.
This book kept me on my toes. As flawed and vulnerable as Bell was in many moments of this series, especially in this book, I was rooting for her. She's a strongly constructed character who has a clear goal, complex motivations, distinct internal and external conflicts that are layered. I really enjoyed watching the side characters in this novel as well, watching them to see what they would do and if certain pieces where Bell dropped the ball would be discovered by the people she was going after. It keeps you on your toes for the overarching mystery, suspense, and romantic elements. In the end, I was satisfied with how Bell and Lander's story concluded - few unexpected twists in tow - and I'm happy that I own this series and can reread it again in my personal library.
Loved this so much - amazing conclusion! This is such a fantastic story with so much going on. While book one left me with a ton of questions, this book gave me all my answers and then some. I am thrilled with the ending!
I love that there was still the revenge aspect happening but it was also an emotional journey for Andoncia as she worked through her anger and what has driven her for so many years, I really felt that growth she was experiencing and sympathized for her. She was just so much more vulnerable in this and I was right there with her, absorbed in everything. She was still diabolical with her plotting and I freaking loved it! Her and Lander are so incredible together, they have such great chemistry and a strong connection but they also had their ups and downs as well as secrets. I loved that added aspect of suspense. There were times I loved Lander, he was so sweet and carrying, but there were also times when I was not happy with him at all (though in the end I loved him again). I was just so wrapped up in all of it and couldn't put it down.
There are just so many twists and turns with the other players. Such a crazy world of power and greed that they all lived in. Jessica was a piece of work and her and Travis made me cringe. I really liked Micah in book one but even more so in this. Even though he's scary he adds an element of humor.
As many emotional times as there were there were actually a lot of humorous parts. I love Andoncia and her dry humor. When she was doing something devious and others didn't know it, it was awesome and just made me feel like I was a part of her scheming.
This was just an excellent story. Great conclusion with intriguing characters that was hot, sensual, and romantic. Loved all the ins and outs with the bits of mystery and intensity. Fantastic ending! Loved the epilogue as well and their version of a happily ever after.
I found myself getting frustrated while reading this one. I felt like Bell couldn't trust Lander, especially when it turned out he had his own agenda. While Bell did get her revenge, she had to do it on her own, Lander was no help there. I found the confrontation between Travis and Bell at the end to be interesting. I hope that what Bell thinks will happen will, not what Travis thinks.
Book two takes off after book one, and even though I had many unanswered questions from book one this installment gave me the answers I seeked.
I am one for a HEA and this ending for me was certainly that ending!
In Dangerous Alliance we see Bell's growth - we still see the path she is going down with her revenge but it was also very enlightening for me the reader to see her work through years of anger , hurt and revenge.
Lander and Bel have smoking hot chemistry between the pages. And with that added suspense and the characters personalites we see many sides to both characters. We see a change in Bell's mission and her overall growth and room for moving on .
This book was like a rollercoaster ride, a world filled with many characters from the previous books as well as players we see.
This book has perfect blend of emotions involved, I love humour and a good laugh and this author certainly delivers this in her stories. We see many emotions, lol moments and also scenes that will have you raising your eyebrows.
Kyra Davis gives us a solid plot, a great conclusion in the end , with a perfect blend of romance, angst, hot smoking titillating moments, with that added bit of suspense .
THe epilogue had me sheepishly grinning and overall really enjoyed the way this story was delivered.
Love this duology (?), Kyra Davis gave. Solid conclusion to Bell's story and it lived up to its build up. For a minute there I was afraid that Bell won't be avenged then she wrote this twist that floored me! DANGEROUS ALLIANCE is one of those unconventional love stories, Bell & Lander were brought together by a common enemy, their passion fueled by revenge, their love charged by ambition, and it was perfect!

Oh how love can make us weak. I felt like Bell's entire personality changed in this second book. In Deceptive Innocence she was so bad ass with a touch of insecurity. But in this book she was VERY insecure and showed weakness. I felt like she was defeated and tired of the fight.
I read the first book in three parts. Which in my opinion was more exciting because of the cliff hangers. I wish they had sold the second book with that option. I don't know if there just weren't as many cliff hangers or if I was reading too quickly to catch them but it just was not as exciting.
I thought that Bell and Lander would have a Bonnie and Clyde essence about them. But she pretty much let him take the lead and I'm not sure how I feel about that.
Despite backing away from her original scheme she still managed to be manipulative and create havoc. I was very proud of her for letting go of all the hate and pain she had been harboring and focusing on living.
I liked the ending and was shocked by the unexpected character who made justice possible. My only complaint is I thought this was suppose to be a trilogy. I don't know where I read it. Maybe I misread but when we were handed the ending all wrapped up in a bow I was left feeling a little hallow.
I'm sorry I've seen enough mob movies to believe that the threat just disappeared. I feel like there should be a third book to address Micah's involvement. I am now questioning if her mom really committed suicide of if that was a prison hit. I don't' know if I have an over active imagination or Kyra left room for speculation on purpose.
Either way I did enjoy this book immensely. Bell and Lander are still one of the hottest couples of the year. And in comparison to 50 Shades since everyone seems to ask me how does it compare I leave you with this.
Christian Grey is a BOY that plays with Toys... Lander Gable is a MAN who uses his HANDS....
I'm not sure we've ever reviewed 2 books at once, but the Pure Sin series reads like one long book. I really could not put them down, so in a rush to find out the truth. Kyra Davis is a master at creating tension, both of the suspenseful and erotic varieties. Davis also creates phenomenal, complex characters, no caricatures of good and evil. All of the players in Deceptive Innocence and Dangerous Alliance are nuanced. Bell Dantés (even that name has layers) may seem like the cold femme fatale, but the conscience she thinks she no longer has keeps coming back when she least wants it to. Lander isn't simply the perfect guy either. He's a Gable in many ways like the ones Bell has come to hate, with ambitions and plans of his own. You never know if you or Bell can really trust him.
Even the real villain, Travis, has weaknesses of the heart when you'd think a man like that has no heart at all. But, Jessica, Travis' wife is probably the most complex of all - a liar, a loving mother, a social climber, but smarter than the drunk, socialite wife persona she allows the world to see.
Bell's plot to avenge her mother at times feels like a metaphor for bringing down the 1%, Wall Street, and gentrifiers that the Gables, even Lander, represent. And unfortunately, the bad guys may get knocked down, but not out. A lesson our heroine Bell had to learn the hard way, and one that parallels the real world of bail outs and ponzie schemers.
I loved how the author kept the love between the two characters growing, mysterious, and alive. Lander kept his strength and character traits even while the romance was getting intense. Adoncia(Bell) remained a strong heroine even through her softening, vulnerable emotional growth and maturity. The writing was fine and had some exceptional moments, but just like the first book, the narrative was excessively repetitive. The continuous reminder of what happened to her mother, what responsibility each conspirator had, and how justice would be accomplished was a perceivable attempt at filling pages and lengthening the book and it ended up also being a huge annoyance. I also found the writing to be a stretch with so many characters being too open with their indiscretions, life and secrets, especially if they are socialites trained to keep silent. Adoncia was able to get too much incriminating information too easily. But being a romance rather than a suspense novel, I can't expect that level of skill although I appreciate combining a slightly erotic romance with a suspenseful storyline. The author has noticeably grown in her writing and the ability to hold and create an interesting storyline, keep the reader invested in the characters by keeping their true essence, have anticipation of the intelligent interactions between the hero and heroine without overdoing the erotic interactions, is worth the excessive price of the ebook.
I received an ARC in exchange for my review - full post on twoclassychics.com
In the first installment, I got caught up in the mystery and the revenge plots pretty quickly and this story picked up right where the other left off. It took just a few pages to refresh my memory what was happening and to get me back into the storyline. I kept thinking about the quote:
"Oh what a tangled web we weave, When first we practice to deceive!" – Sir Walter Scott
It is certainly fitting for this story line.
A mixture of love, revenge, mystery and great writing skills combine to make this a tangled web that Bell and Lander are working to sort through. Both have something to gain along with the ultimate goal of revenge. The twists and turns that the author takes you through keep you on your toes and makes this a thrilling read. I found myself pushing through the book to try and get to the end. I really wanted to know the outcome! Heart pounding scenes and not knowing who to trust makes for a great series!
The author has proved to be a master craftsman of this slightly dark novel with her ability to keep the reader guessing at the final outcome. I was intrigued and enthralled the entire story and that is difficult for many authors. If you love a mixture of genres in your women’s fiction books, you need to check out this series! Kyra Davis is a strong author that will keep you entertained!
Dangerous Alliance by Kyra Davis picks up where Pure Sin left off.
Belle and Lander have joined forces on their quest for justice and revenge. Belle has let Lander take the lead. It turns out that Lander has his own agenda. Despite this, Belle is still manipulative and ready to play her cards. Once her cards are played and revenge is on the threshold Belle realizes she doesn’t know what to do with her life. Will her relationship with Lander be the same? Will they have a future together?
What unfolds throughout this story will take the reader’s through many twists and turns. The final moments of Belle’s revenge will come as a complete surprise from an unsuspecting source. The final confrontation will blow the readers away. The ending will leave the reader satisfied with this series.
Belle and Lander are one of the hottest couples in print. This couple’s heat burned the house down.
The Pure Sin series is one of the best erotic romantic suspense series I have read. I highly recommend this series.
Dangerous Alliance by Kyra Davis Finding a solution to the Pure Sin series takes one more book. The Pure Sin series has been a roller coaster of love, labor, and loss. Bellona has a plan, to capture and incarcerate the men who were the cause of her mother’s death. Bellona (Adoncia) has found a way into the lives of the Gables. She uses her connections, and all the skills she has focused her entire life to accumulate. She has found their secrets and on the cusp of her ultimate revenge she has no idea how to live the rest of her life. Her connections have become dangerous; her revenge hangs in the balance. Lander Gable her partner has changed the plan of her life. He has more work to do but he has to find a way to make Adonica find a way to live, because he cannot live without her. This is a dynamic series with its acclamation in this book, its cosmopolitan advised love life can give any young girl sweet dreams.
Full disclosure: I received this novel as a First Reads Goodreads giveaway, but that in no way affects the review.
4.5 stars--This is the second on the Pure Sin series, and it continues the tale started in Deceptive Innocence. Bell (Adoncia) and Lander are still in the revenge mode, trying to connect Travis and Edmund to Adoncia's mother's murder conviction and subsequent death as well as prove their involvement in corrupt banking practices.
Not only are they working as a team to provide justice of their own, they are lovers as well. Together they are a formidable team. Spicy sex scenes interspersed with ruthless plans to trap the guilty makes this one a fun read.
Having not read the first novel, it was catch up time to figure out all the relationships, but it can be done; however, read them both and in order for greater reading pleasure.
Now, to read the first one to catch all the nuances.
i really enjoyed this one...though not as much as the first book. Bell/Adoncia is so bed that she is such a good character. She is still out for revenge for her mum but this time she isn't alone in that quest. Lander, a sexy, rich and almost as bad and dangerous as her os a good ally...and a good lover. They makeva great team as they both have a common enemy. What i like about tjis book is that all main characters carry themselves with a level of vlass and dignity. They ate all well educated and give threats in a way that can come out as just a passing comment. Everything is said and done with much careful planning and consideration that you just cant get enough of their schemes. I LOVE IT!!!!
So this is the 2nd and final part of the series. Bell finally gets her revenge. But really in my opinion she could have done it in a more spectacular way instead of using a duex ex machina style. Oh well. It was still a great series with lots of twists, some predictable and many not. I had the same issue I had with the first book, too many sex scenes. But whatever. Also I didn't really like how she took a little bit of a backseat in this second book.
However, even with these two negatives... the story altogether definitely gets a 5 star from me. I hardly ever give any. So trust me when I say, it was entertaining. A new and refreshing take on your typical heroine. Almost an antihero, but not quite. Enjoy!
For anyone looking for a great romance novel to read, then pick up The Pure Sin series. There is a host of complex characters who will take you on a wild ride of Murder Sex and revenge. How far would you go to get justice for your love one? Lander Gable and Bell aka (Adoncia) both have their own reasons for revenge but, can they put them aside long enough to learn what matters most.!! Who is telling the Truth? Who is hiding Deadly Secrets? Who is willing to Kill to keep them buried? Pick up these books and enjoy the wild ride. Start with Deceptive Innocence. Then read Dangerous Alliance. Is Murder the true Pure Sin?
Wow! Just wow! The Pure Sin book duo would make a great movie. I've already cast Bell, in my head. She's my kind of warrior woman. This story has everything I like: Intrigue, betrayal, murder, dysfunctional relationships, corporate malfeasance, love and sex. Oddly, I can't seem to cast Landers in my head even though he's the lover. I loved when Bell described Landers' brother, Travis as a "nuanced devil". Ironically, the same could be said for every major player in this story. Deceptive Innocence and Dangerous Alliance really should be read back-to-back. I'm so glad I waited to read it after the series was complete.
I hate giving a low review but I just couldn't get into this book. There was something that disconnected Landon and Belle, maybe she was too angry or something it was like the chemistry for me was missing. That being said it doesn't mean I won't pick up another of her books and try something different it just isn't join to be this one. Sorry Kyra, totally respect the perfusion this one just didn't do it for me but good writing the story flows, it isn't a hard read I just couldn't fall in love with the characters or their relationship.
What a way to wrap things up. I really enjoyed Adoncia's growth and her finding her way to something more important in life than revenge after it was all said and done. I enjoyed the sneak peek inside the lives of the rich and famous and all the convoluted things they do behind closed doors. I really loved how the relationship between Adoncia and Lander grew into something neither of them initially expected. But most of all I was glad to see those who'd wronged others get what they deserved.
Dangerous Alliance (Pure Sin Book 2) by Kyra Davis is a great romance suspense read. Make sure you have nothing planned because once you start reading it you won't put it down until you finish it. As you read it you will feel so much intense anticipation and curiosity of what's next. This is a great sequel and it shows a woman's empowerment so very well. I recommend this book to everyone. I look for more by Kyra Davis.
Amazing... Simple and Simple Words for this extraordinary Book... I want to give more stars, i mean 1000 if i could, as this book is so much to read... so many emotions, so many twist, turns, and Romance ;)
I don't know what to or how to describe and write anything about this book... But One thing is for sure, I will never forget what i have read, as One night Stand trilogy, This series is also safe and secure in my heart and mind till I die...
5 REVENGE STARS Ok, so this is an AMAZING story. This books starts just where the first one ended and gave a great ending to Adoncia/Bell story. It answers all the questions we had left in the first book and show us another side of Doncia, a vulnerable side while she plots whit her hot partner in crime, Lander. This book has it all, love, hot sex, decception, lies, joy, dissappointment, sadness, strenght, all of it. My kind of story.
6+Stars.....this series (1&2) is the best read of 2015. The author, Kyra Davis has become a favorite of mine. Her well defined characters and well thought out story plot had me captivated throughout. Expertly written with a style that grabs you and doesn't let go. It was intense, sexy, intriguing, everything I hope for when starting a new book...Kyra delivers ! I recommend this book and highly recommend this Author .
