Omar Gamal’s life is a comedy of errors. Between his diva Persian cat, a new job in the NICU, and a sassy Southern nurse who might be his soulmate, Omar’s juggling more than just feeding schedules and diaper changes.
His charming British accent? Check.
His nerves around beautiful men? Double-check.
His ability to keep a clean shirt for more than five minutes? Let’s not talk about that.
Enter Matty, the hospital’s unofficial ray of sunshine and chaos personified. With platinum curls, a heart as big as Georgia, and sass for days, Matty is everything Omar didn’t know he needed. As Omar tries to navigate the labyrinth of his new job—and the maze of his heart—Matty’s infectious laughter and flirtatious banter make falling in love both inevitable and utterly terrifying.
The Nursling is a cheeky, heartfelt rom-com brimming with found family, tender moments, and plenty of laugh-out-loud disasters. Perfect for fans of snarky banter, unlikely romance, and swoon-worthy HEAs, this is the story of two nurses and one cat learning that love is as unpredictable as hospital life—and twice as messy.

Casey Morales is an LGBT storyteller and the author of multiple bestselling MM romance novels. Born in the Southern United States, Casey is an avid tennis player, aspiring chef, dog lover, and ravenous consumer of gummy bears.
The Nursling is book two in the Heartstrings of Honor series by Casey Morales. This can easily be read as a stand alone. I have not read book one and did just fine. This is a sweet, steamy, angst free, no third act break up, swoony romance that will make you smile.
Omar Gamal is twenty seven years old and is an RN. His previous hospital had him changing departments constantly, not having one particular one that he was assigned to. So he is changing hospitals to Piedmont Hospital. He will be working in the NICU, even though he has no experience with babies. He is the son of an Egyptian Diplomat and was raised in England so he has a British accent!
Matthew “Matty” Vance is twenty nine years old and is an ER nurse at the same hospital. These two are opposite in almost every day. Where Omar is dark haired, Matty’s is almost white. Omar is maybe a bit stoic where Matty is like walking sunshine. When Matty first walked in to the room where Omar was on his first day, it was like a bright light from above was shining down on him. He couldn’t look away.
The journey for these two was so adorable. I loved the way things developed between them. I loved the way their bond just naturally strengthened. They were a couple before they even realized that they were. The side characters were fun to get to know as well. One of which the next book will focus on, Eliot, Matty’s friend in The Lineman! This is such a wonderful series, focusing on men in jobs that are honorable and important.
Delightful easy read of Matty and Omars meeting and development of their relationship. As a nurse I appreciated that they were both nurses and that the workplace was represented authentically.
Their friends added to the banter and the connection .
I read it in one go ( unusual for me lately).
I received an arc for an honest review - I recommend it as a great read.
I laughed through the book because of Matty. Some of the things that he comes up with, you wonder about. He's very out and seems as though he doesn't care. On the other hand, Omar is stoic. He comes from a diplomatic family where everything has to be "right". They both are RN's and work in the same hospital; Omar is in the NICU area, and Matty is in the ER. It's a story that you can get into and not put down. Omar surprises Matty when they're alone. A note here, Omar's grandma is not the typical grandma, and Matty and she hit it off straight away.
I received an E-book ARC edition of this novel in exchange for an honest review. It is Book Two of Casey Morales’ HEARTSTRINGS OF HONOR Series, but it can be read as a standalone. It will be available on Feb 25th on Amazon & Kindle Unlimited: www.amzn.com/B0D5VT4XMT
This is Quick & Smooth-paced 229-page Opposites Attract, Work Place MM Romance. Taking place in one of Atlanta, Georgia's major hospitals inside their gayborhood, two guys smack together harder than magnets. Written in a duel POV in their own chapters, this book picks up some time after the first novel FIGHTING THE FLAMES WITHIN. It gives great authentic insight to Atlanta's gay life, from different locations, to how uniquely each gay person is from each other. What I was most excited about was the author bringing in a ethnic and culture that we haven’t really seen. I love that Casey expanded and brought in Egyptian Muslim and showed how different the lifestyle can be from us and the internal fight to self-acceptance.
When Omar transfers to a new hospital to work in the NICU as a Nurse, he Meet/Cutes with Matty, an ER Nurse, when he is attending Orientation . But one Meet Cute isn’t enough for these two, No….. they got three. After being pressured by his coworker in hilarious fashion, Omar asks Matty out. From there, nothing will slow them down except themselves.
--He made brass bands play in my chest and fireworks flash behind my eyes.--
While the loud and flirty Matty working in the ER has some really funny and ‘you have got to be kidding' moments like horny grandmas, a sword in a stone moment (oh just await) and his hilarious friendship with Sierra (SiSi), this work place plot mostly revolves around the subdued, quiet & shy Omar learning the Ins & Outs of the NICU and the different levels and what they pertain to. That is where he meets Baby Josh, the fighter. This will truly pull at your HEARTSTRINGS. The emotion and care that they all feel is expressed with such power that you feel it yourself. It truly gives respect to the hospital workers who have to work these areas and try not to get attached.
--"I always need you, my luscious little biscuit.”--
The chemistry these two have is forceful out and in the bedroom. Their dating starts slow, so they get to know each other. While Matty is fabulously and unapologetically flamboyant, Omar is more reserved and raised to be submissive in a Muslim household where his sexuality isn’t discussed or acknowledged. What they do have in common is their own relationships with their families. While Omar moved to the States to escape a governmental suppressed and freedomless household, Matty was pretty much abandoned, but not for homophobic reasons. But because of their different personalities, it takes Omar a moment to be comfortable, but once he does, he surprises everyone with how quick tongued his raunchy mind can be. Comso + Pink Manhattan = Sonic Boom! By the way, Pink Manhattan’s are truly vile and gross and wouldn’t recommend it, lol! But what I love about them is that they are equal to each other. The care they take is perfectly balanced and supportive. They listen to needs and come running when called.
--"It's time to pop the package. Even a twinkie has an expiration date and needs to be eaten.”--
The Spice is like throwing powered sugar into fire, It’s a Flash! 4/5🌶! It’s demanding, controlling, and verbal while also having sweet moments like their first kiss being like a calm breeze (Gold Star) and intimate cuddle and caring times. It wasn’t really Dom/sub or even Daddy/boy, but it teased the line without crossing over. The Casey Morales didn’t shy away from the description of the moments and changing up their locations. Even normal conversation had spicy humorous language with each other and their friends.
--"Looking at you is like looking into the sun, if you want to be poetic.” “Aw, Sisi. Thank you.” “That was not a compliment.”--
The ensemble was brilliant! Yaaasssss!! Patrick & Dane made an appearance from the first book with a new friend, Elliot, who is a Power Pole Worker. But it was Sierra (Matty's friend) Carlie (Omar's coworker), and Teto (Omar's Gma) that really rounded out and filled the cast with such hilarious moments while Omar's family troubles & Baby Josh kept the emotion taunt.
--His emotions were more complex than a single word.--
I really did like this book. I’m from Atlanta originally, so it was fun reliving core memories thru these two characters, from the crazy traffic to references like Swinging Richard’s and Piedmont Park. The author really set the locations well and the tone of southern city hospitality. I actually wished there was more, lol! There are so many good places in that city that would have been fun to visit that could have filled the small time-jumps in the plot. That, and maybe more ER & Baby Josh content. Maybe just allllll Baby Josh.
The second book of the Heartstrings of Honour series will make you laugh and cry with Omar and Matty’s poignant sweet journey which will take you as reader to Atlanta, London and Cairo.
Both are male nurses at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta- Matty Vance a flamboyant sassy flirtatious out and proud ER nurse and playboy and Omar Gamal a quiet, demure, submissive new NICU nurse who is the son of a London/Egyptian diplomat…
They start off as friends who go on “dates” to get to know each other as Omar seems a bit Demi in my opinion and can’t do hookups… and then become inseparable!
Will the real Omar Gulam please stand up! 😈 What a dark horse is our Omar and he sure shocks the living sass out of Matty- in the bedroom…
I loved them as characters who had so much empathy and compassion when it came to their patients- even a non patient and his young mother who crawls deep into their hearts!👩🍼
Omar’s grandmother or Teto as he calls her was a sassy, funny and loveable character- like he told Matty “if Rose and Dorothy from the Golden Girls had a child it would be Teto.”
The author showcased how homosexuality in their different cultures are treated and how family and friends plays an important role!
A beautiful heartfelt, sweet and tearful epilogue follows their journey with a beautiful conclusion!
I loved Sisi and Eliot as supportive, nosy friends and look forward to his story next!
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The Nursling by Casey Morales is a sweet and steamy book about a couple of nurses in the same hospital, one in the ER and the other in the NICU. They begin to date but Omar asks to wait for intimacy. Omar is an Egyptian diplomat's son, though he was raised in London and apparently has a dreamy accent! He's a NICU nurse. He meets a teenage mother and her extremely premature baby boy and there's an instant connection between him and the boy. He becomes quite attached to him, and his mom. He meets Matty on his first day and is enraptured by his free-spirited fabulousness! So much so, the first time he asks Matty out, Omar stutters all the way through it! Matty is a sexy, snarky, sweet as pie Georgia boy who helps keep the ER running, while the ER keeps him running! In his past, he'd been rather promiscuous, but when Omar asks to take it slow, intimately, he's okay with it because he truly enjoys just being around Omar. Once it gets steamy it gets hot! 🥵 I love these men and I adore nurses. After experiencing months in hospitals once long ago, I determined that nurses are angels on earth, and The Nursling really lets us see that. It's another truly great book by Casey Morales & I highly recommend it. Romance - ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Steam - 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Humor - 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Angst - 😭😭😭 Writing - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
So much fun to read! Engaging story, sprinkled with wit, sass, heartfelt moments and a lovely HEA. Omar, son of a diplomat based in the UK, is the 'class'; Matty, southern Georgia peach, is the sass. They worked well together, despite Matty's out and proud outlook vs Omar's more reserved nature. As their relationship progressed, they weathered ups/downs, mostly external, though the story never gets angsty. Loved Granma and Matty at the end. Another slice of reading goodness by Casey Morales!
One is an explosion of all things fabulous, the other the complete opposite, they have little in common apart from their jobs, the culture clash is huge. All that leads to so many funny moments, it’s a riot from start to finish.
Omar and Matty are such a sweet and endearing couple – their story was truly captivating! While I enjoyed their journey, I felt the writing could have explored certain moments more deeply. Key events often led to chapter breaks and time jumps, leaving me wanting more of the emotional impact. All the elements for a fantastic love story are there; I just longed for a more immersive experience.

Sweet, tender and funny. A new novel by Casey Morales that's a pleasure to read and puts a smile on your face. This book is sweet, tender and funny. Unmistakably a Casey Morales, with endearing characters, humor, fair and fluid writing and an original story. A book that can be read in one go, without stopping, and that warms the heart. Omar and Matty are diametrically opposed, and yet they're obvious to each other. Their relationship develops quietly, naturally and, in the end, they mean everything to each other. A pleasure to read, with secondary characters just as engaging as the two main protagonists. I recommend it!

The Nursling by Casey Morales is the second book in his Heartstrings of Honor series. It is the story of two male nurses who meet on the job, feel an instant attraction, spend time together, and fall in love. Omar Gamal is at his orientation meeting at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta. He is going to start as NICU nurse and is excited but nervous at beginning this job. He is the only son of an Egyptian diplomat to England which was where he was brought up. His parents are religious and upstanding, following every protocol for his job. Unfortunately, it isn’t what Omar wants for his life, especially since he likes men, so even though he wants a close relationship with his father it seems to be superficial. That led him to the US for college and nursing school and now this job. After lunch Matty Vance, an ER nurse at the hospital comes in and talks about everything he wished someone would have told him on his first day at the hospital. Matty is a golden curly haired spitfire who is an out and proud fabulous queen and Omar finds himself immediately attracted to him. Then Matty comes to take him to lunch during his first week to find out how he is doing on his job. They talk and joke around and both want to see more of each other. Omar’s British accent and his submissive and somewhat closed off yet responsive attitude hook Matty and Omar is enthralled by Matty’s outrageous and flirty talk and that he knows who he is and is proud of it. They go out to eat and back to each other’s apartments and are circumspect towards each other as Omar wants to take things slow, especially after some of his earlier relationships went sour. Matty is happy to oblige and after watching Omar with his bowling team they take a walk in Piedmont Park and kiss. When Omar’s mother calls him to say that his father is moving up to become the full ambassador for England he is not thrilled because he will have to attend the ceremony in London. Then his grandmother, Teto, calls. She is the relative he is closest to and loves dearly. She is also a hoot, especially with the Arabic names she calls him. He tells her all about Matty and she can tell he is smitten. After Matty has a hard day, he cooks for him and this leads to a love scene where Omar takes charge which is something he doesn’t do often in real life and Matty loves it. They continue seeing each other and are falling deeper in love every day until they finally say I love you to each other and follow it up with a very sweet, hot love scene. The Omar’s mother calls with some difficult news about his father and Matty comforts him as only he can. When Omar goes to England for his father’s investiture this colors his visit with his parents as well as Teto who also came. He remembers the good times with his father when he was little and wishes they could be close like that again. Matty picks up Omar at the airport when he returns and they realize how much they missed each other. Omar invites Matty to Egypt so he can meet Teto who is her usual unfiltered self and something wonderful happens there while visiting different parts of Cairo. When they return home they know they want to be together forever and form plans to make this happen and see them through so they can start the rest of their lives happily in love. I really enjoyed this book. There are laughs on almost every page as most of the characters are quite snarky. Yet there is also seriousness underneath with the patients in the hospital and what they are going through, Omar’s relationship with his parents, and every day life as nurses. Omar is sweet and working in the NICU is perfect for him, yet he is still concerned that he can do what needs to be done there. He also has a hidden side that comes out in the love scenes with Matty. Matty is a hilarious with his out and proud attitude and isn’t afraid to say what he is thinking. They fit each other to a T. Their friends and other nurses really add to the story, especially Matty’s best friend, Sisi, who calls him funny names and tells it like it is. There is also a story line involving a young mother, Emily, and her preemie baby, Josh, that will tug at your heartstrings. I highly recommend this book, especially if you like stories that involve nurses, men from other countries who find each other attractive, snarky and hilarious banter, and two different men who come together and fall in love.
Omar is about to start his new role as an NICU nurse in an Atlanta hospital. He already knows he has had a blessed life, one which is currently challenged by Isis, his diva of a Persian cat. Can his life get any better or will the hectic role and sometimes heavy emotions that come with being a nurse get in the way?
Matty is an ER nurse, a burst of sunshine, a proud gay who loves his job, his family, his life and his two best friends. He goes through life with a spring in his step, always smiling, always making the best he can of everything. He is quite sure that he has everything he needs.
Then Omar meets Matty, or does Matty meet Omar? Whichever way around it happens they meet when Matty comes to the new staff orientation day to explain to said new staff, the hospital from the perspective of someone who knows it well. From that day forward, it soon becomes clear, these two will discover they have something very special. A few lunch dates lead to an actual date, enjoyed by them both so much they do it again, the very next day, and Matty gets to meet the friends. This is an important step as Omar's family are actually in London and Cairo. Omar is Egyptian, the son of a diplomat. Family are important to him but it is to Teto, his grandmother, that he is closest. Family are important to Matty too. Just one of the many common factors these two find.
They are, in many ways, opposites and yet Casey Morales has taken his opposites, his two beautiful souls, and found a way to show them, to show us, how beautifully they mould to one another. He has a way with words, which you may expect for an author but there is something very clever about the way Casey writes. Every word, every line, they are filled with promise, with a reality and with something that is going to make you laugh out loud. In this story there is a lot of that. it is a feel-good rom-com. Yes, there are some somber moments but even all the events in the hospital have a lightness and hope surrounding them.
Outside work, in their homes and when able to enjoy their free time Omar and Matty are perfect. They are the friends I bet we wish we all had, the life of whatever party they are in, ready with smiles and hugs all round. They are competitive, love trying to outdo one another and have the most hilarious discussions about the differences between Americans and Brits, language and the royal family. As a Brit I loved it all and have to say it is far more accurate than you might believe. At. home... I won't say in the bedroom for there is also the occasion on the settee and in the laundry room... the steam, the heat, it is off the charts. It might be imaginary but I imagine a few readers might learn something to spice up their own lives. Yet again Casey Morales has taken the germ of a story and turned it into something spectacular with every scene, every page.
Cheeky, tender, heart-felt. This is a story of friends and lovers, found family, disasters, successes and a beautiful Persian cat ~ we must never forget Isis!
The blurb sets this book up so well, and reflects the overall positive and sensitive sides of the book. There is so much humor to be found within, as well as pathos and strong emotions on the part of the characters and this reader. My overall sense of this book is of hope and joy, smiles and tears, the cycle of life, and the importance of family, memories, and home. As Omar and Matty find each other, taking the time to learn about past and future hopes and dreams, needs and desires, giving and yielding, sharing and communicating, building trust, and caring and loving, their relationship grows and becomes stronger through all those things.
As Omar starts his first day in the NICU, you can feel his hesitancy faced with these tiny babies, but he reacts with humor amid all the unexpected spit ups and other events common with babies as he gets used to his role. When he goes into the Level III NICU to check it out, the differences in the descriptions of the patients and setup are so clear, it is easy to identify with the emotional pull that those nurses must be able to control to continue to care for their critical charges. It reminded me of a time I was in a NICU more years ago than I care to remember, and just being there was enough to pull at the emotions and heartstrings of the most hardened individual, seeing these tiny bodies fighting for life. As Omar spent time in the Level III NICU with baby Josh and Emily, you could just feel the connection between them, the hope and the fear, and the fighting soul within that tiny body. Omar is also dealing with the weight of the expectations from his father’s position and his cultural background, with Matty being the one to draw the other side out of him, where his actions and demeanor are truer to himself.
Matty is a ray of sunshine, he is smiles and sassy, snarky comments, a positive outlook, and a heart ready to be loved for himself. He is caring, whether in his capacity as a nurse, or just as part of his reality, loyal to his friends, available when needed, and ready with lots of love to give to the person who catches his heart.
I enjoyed the visit to Egypt, meeting Tito, the trip to the Pyramids, and felt the culmination of the special evening with Tito to be fitting events as Omar introduced Matty to more of who he was. I also found the epilogue to be emotional and bittersweet (no spoiler, need to read it yourself). Overall, I really enjoyed the book, there were some thought-provoking parts, lots of love and laughter, and some hot sexy times, but the word that stands out most for me is smiles, I just found myself smiling so many times throughout the book, even with the emotional times, the smiles stand out more.
I really enjoy this author’s work, it always speaks to me and stirs up feelings and emotions while leaving me with a message of one sort or another. Any book is a great read.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Not sure I was a super big fan of Matty at the start with the way he seemed fixated on Omar's British-ness and seemingly ignored what he was actually saying. The conversation he had with his friend Sierra where he said, "He's Egyptian, the son of a king of something" was very indicative that he wasn't listening and instead just made it seem like he was focused on Omar's exotic-ness (which was gross). Sierra basically doing the same thing the first time she met him was even worse. And it kept happening! It wasn't cute or endearing to hear Matty giggle at the way Omar spoke (stuff like that just too easily slides into fetishizing foreign people)
Wtf was happening at the bowling alley? First of all, where did Omar's sudden change in personality come from? I get acting differently when you're with friends, but you don't get to have a sudden confidence boost (where you're suddenly comfortable being all touchy) when we've literally seen Omar's POV and slight timidness. It made zero sense. That's not even mentioning Matty's "Why was I so restrained when it came to Omar?" HUH? Restrained what? Did he need a dictionary? "Restrained" is not a word anyone would use to describe how forward Matty had been with regards to Omar. Also bonus points for hitting three of my pet peeves in the same scene: - poor characterization (both Omar and Matty's weird persona shifts) - an MC asking himself why he feels a certain way without any real reason other than instalove (they'd been on TWO dates outside of work) - indulgent previous MC cameos
I DNFed when Omar and Matty decided to have sex in like their third week of dating despite Omar saying he needed to love someone before having sex. Three weeks is such short amount of time. To be clear, it's my the end all be all, but having an MC explicitly say they want to wait, but then not have them actually wait is just lazy imo. That in addition to the way the generally contrary characterization made me not want to finish.
The Nursling is a captivating, heartfelt, witty story about two opposites finding happiness and love despite their differences. C. Morales explores the underlying themes of overcoming insecurities and the absence of parental support and care with humor and effortless emotionality rather than drama, angst, or suspense. Though the plot might appear straightforward, a myriad of micro-twists and turns, along with witty banter and inner dialogues, make this book a heartwarming and entertaining page-turner. The main characters, Matty and Omar, are well-developed, lovable, and charming, as different as they come. Their common ground is their dedication to both their profession and each other. Working in a hospital as nurses gives additional context and appeal to the story. They first meet on the day Omar starts his position at the hospital. An immediate and undeniable attraction gradually develops into love. Their adjustment to different backgrounds and perspectives, along with vibrant and frequently witty insights into their minds and thought processes, keeps the reader’s attention throughout the story. The author masterfully combines the developing relationship with deeper themes and passion. The storytelling is smooth and effortless, yet profound enough to emotionally engage the reader with the characters. Reading this book felt like a walk in the park on a sunny Sunday morning—refreshing, heartwarming, and fulfilling. However, if you crave dark drama, deeply flawed characters, complex issues, and angst, you may not enjoy the story as much as I did. I have read several of C. Morales' books. His signature eloquent writing, wit, humor, and vibrant storytelling resonate in The Nursling as well, making it an exciting and compelling read.
Omar has moved to America to escape his family, been a son of an Egyptian diplomat whilst had its perks, his home life was non-existent, being a gay Muslim was not looked upon and whilst his parents never fully disowned him, them not acknowledging this hurt him more. Now a nurse in NCIU he is stuck with nappies and bottles. In steps Matty a fellow nurse and the start of a beautiful relationship. These two were great together so opposite. Omar came across as quiet and submissive, due to years being in his father's shadow. Matty was flamboyant and it was like a glitter cannon had just gone off in ER and whilst Matty was the confident one, Omar set the pace in their relationship and when Matty gets what he wanted, he realises that Omar had a new personality. There is all the hospital drama that you would expect and then you have baby Josh, I loved this secondary story line and you can see how good the nursing skills are of Matty and Omar. Loved, loved, loved the secondary character and their comedy moments had me laughing. Sierra, Matty's friend was like the annoying sister in the relationship, Elliott some of his one liners has me looking forward to his story and then you have Teto, Omar's grandma, I want her as my grandma, her pet names for Omar were sweet and at time hysterical and you could see how much love she had for her grandson. Whilst Omar was Egyptian he spent most of his life in London, so of cause he spoke with a British accent and as a Brit, I loved that were no stereotypical British. He loved coffee and whilst tea was mentioned it was not made into a big deal, yes this is one of my bugbears thinking that all brits love tea. The British slang was spot on and I could hear Omar speaking in my head. The appearance of Patrick and Dane wants me to reread their story, but Elliott and his antics with the power pole is one I cannot wait for
.The Nursling by Casey Morales is the second book in the writers Heartstrings of Honour series of MM romances
In this novel we follow the romance between two nurses set in Atlanta between:
Omar Gmaal, the son of an Egyptian diplomat who has lived his life in London who as got a new job working in the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) and Matty a life and soul of the party who works in A&E (Accident and Emergency) section of the same hospital.
The Nursling is definitely a slow burn romance between Omar and Matty and yes there are spicy scenes in the novel but these fall to the end and never seem to take over the whole novel.
As Casey Morales has written an MM Romance that really leans on the romance part, as the couple start to get to know each other, and start to form a connection between them.
Especially as the two individuals have different personalities with Omar being quiet and Matty being an extrovert.
What was really interesting about The Nursling was the character of Omar to his upbringing of being immersed in Egyptian culture due to his parents nationality as well as British culture due to his living in England for a majority of his life.
This meant that a number of times the writer Casey Morales had to bring in aspects of British culture, which was done in a way that did not quite feel right.
I am not sure if this was due to little inaccuracies or was due to the writer's research or done on purpose to give Omar an almost outsider quality of not being British or Egyptian.
However this is how I took it to work which enhanced the novel.
Having said all that romance novels live or die on the quality of the romance which in this case Casey Morales worked wonders in The Nursling making it a delight to read.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily
The Nursling is a standalone contemporary medical romance by Casey Morales and is the second book of Heartstrings of Honor series. This is a sweet romance that brings together two nurses at the Georgia hospital.
Omar Gamal is a quiet and composed sort of person, but he is also quite passionate about nursing and helping others. He has started a new job in the US as a pediatric nurse. He is Egyptian born and raised in London - which makes his accent a big draw to even the most stubborn Southern gentleman or lady. Perhaps the key to Omar's personality is the fact that he grew up as the son of a well renowned diplomat, and the fact that he and his father had a strained relationship because Omar was out of the closet.
While Omar is composed, Matty is all energy and excitement, he is simply sunshine. For that reason, he is one of those people that accumulates friends and good will. Matty is an ER nurse and his gregarious nature makes him perfect as part of the welcoming committee at the hospital. He your typical boisterous Southern man - he is also out of the closet and very proud.
These have instant chemistry, but there romance is a gentle slow burn, and not high on spice. I think I would best describe this as a slice of life kind of book. Omar settles into life in the US and deals with his parents, while Matty tries to figure out how to best romance Omar. They are an incredibly sweet couple and I found it especially easy to relate to Omar. I think we all deserve a Matty in our lives.

This book was a truly enjoyable and wonderful reading experience. Yes, I know, Casey Morales is one of my favorites, but still. He has outdone himself again with this book. The story of Omar and Matty. Both work in a hospital. Omar, at first glance a shy man, with an Egyptian background. His father is a politically active person and has little contact with his son. Honestly, this broke my heart a little. The way Omar grew up, between two people, both of whom had little time for their own child. Father who, based on his religion, could not accept that his son was different. Luckily his grandmother was there. Everyone should help a grandmother named Teto. I really laughed at those actions of this grand old lady. And then there's Matty. Matty who has no filter and really shouldn't have one. Matty who wants nothing more than that picture that everyone wants. Someone to love and care for. And he meets that person in Omar. Unexpected. Even I didn't see this coming. And then there's baby Josh and Emily. And then Omar gets bad news. I don't want to give away anything about the plot, but for me the only real contact left between Omar and his father was the moment his father helped him with his tie. That moment was so small, but on the other hand, so big. I really couldn't keep it dry, I can tell you that. A beautiful, loving story. A story that warms your insides. But honestly, I expected something different from Casey Morales. Highly recommended.
Florida author Casey Morales continues his entertaining and satisfying series Heartstrings of Honor with THE NURSLING, Book 2 of the current series. As always, when writing his varied RomCom books, Casey balances romance with humor while exploring various facets of relationships. In this volume he provides an excellent synopsis to invite the reader into his realm: 'Omar Gamal’s life is a comedy of errors. As Omar tries to navigate the labyrinth of his new job—and the maze of his heart—Matty’s infectious laughter and flirtatious banter make falling in love both inevitable and utterly terrifying.'
'The Nursling' is a zany blend of snarky commentary, colorful characters, and a humorous spin on the daily lives of nurses. This isn't just about scrubs and stethoscopes; it's an adult drag queen story hour worth every chuckle.
At the heart of the story are Omar and Matty, whose flirtations and misadventures make you question if reality is stranger than fiction. While navigating through love and the pursuit of a happily ever after, their witty banter and undeniable chemistry steal the show. Their escapades are peppered with high-heat situations that feel more like a romantic comedy than a typical nursing tale.
As entertaining as Omar and Matty are, the supporting cast adds to the charm of this roller-coaster ride. Both hilarious and heartwarming, these side characters contribute to the overall light-heartedness of the plot, ensuring that the angst is minimal while the humor ramps up. In 'The Nursling,' everyone has a role to play, and you’ll want to meet them all.
So, grab a coffee, settle in, and immerse yourself in The Nursling. Whether you're a nursing professional or someone who loves a good laugh, this witty, campy read will brighten your day!
Omar Gamal is the new RN in the NICU at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta. Coming from a wealthy and conservative background, Omar is content working a sometimes hectic and thankless job – albeit one he is good at and truly likes to do. Matty Vance is an ER nurse with a sizeable amount of flair and attitude. His unofficial job as one-man welcome committee is an occupation he is perfectly fitted for. When Matty and Omar meet for the first time, it’s almost instantly a game of who is more star-struck over the other. The Nursling is an extremely fun and entertaining novel! Matty and Omar compliment each other so perfectly personality-wise, that it’s no wonder the two hit it off so well at first. It felt to me as if they were made for each other… as if Matty was just waiting for Omar to walk into his life and be “the One.” The Nursling is written in a very humorous style – I found myself chuckling quite often while reading. This book is a winner! A very fun and positive romance that shouldn’t be missed… 5 stars!
Hilarious, Feel-Good, and Absolutely Unforgettable!
This book is spit-your-drink funny, seriously, don’t drink anything while reading unless you enjoy choking from laughter! From start to finish, I was in tears from laughing so hard. This has to be one of the funniest books I’ve ever read. The characters? Absolutely amazing. Matty, Elliot, and Sisi’s friendship is priceless. I want to hang out with them in real life! Their banter and dynamic made every scene a joy to read. And then there’s Matty and Omar, what a beautiful relationship. Their connection was full of love. The only thing that could have made it even funnier? A scene with Sisi and Teto interacting. Now that would have been comedy gold! This is a true standalone with a HEA, little to no drama, and just pure fun. If you're looking for a lighthearted, feel-good read that will leave you grinning from ear to ear, I highly recommend this book!

I absolutely love Casey Morales’ books, and The Nursling is another fantastic addition to the Heartstrings of Honor series! This book is the perfect blend of heart, humor, and romance, with deep emotional moments and some of the funniest dialogue I’ve read in a while. Matty’s smart mouth and endless sass had me laughing out loud, while Omar’s awkward charm made him impossible not to love.
The chemistry between these two is undeniable, and their banter is pure gold. Watching Omar try to navigate his new job in the NICU—while also dealing with his diva Persian cat and his growing feelings for Matty—was both hilarious and heartwarming. Their relationship builds in such a natural, satisfying way, making every moment between them feel special.
If you love witty rom-coms, found family vibes, and swoon-worthy MM romance, this book is a must-read. Highly recommend!.

2 stars, but I don't think I'll rate this on GR. Abandoned at 55% (finished chapter 23) on 23 May 2025.
Unfortunately I am just not enjoying this at all. I didn't much care for the writing style, which I don't know the name of, but is when these trying-to-be-cute phrases are used as adjectives? Like I said I don't know what it's called. But it was way overused. Plus there were these tiny inconsistencies () and random revelations that just come out of nowhere. It was like there wasn't a character sheet, but just random insertions at random points.
I'll be honest, the main reason I picked up this book was because the MC is Muslim or was raised Muslim (I wasn't sure which yet). Unfortunately, that was barely mentioned, except to say that his dad is a devout Muslim. But other than that, there was no exploration of how religion impacted Omar's coming out. Which is fine, because I know lots of people don't want religious angst in their romance books. But I did want that exploration and development. And it wasn't there, and I already wasn't really engaged with the book, so what was the point of keeping on reading?
Except I did keep on reading hoping it would eventually be written in. But the final straw was that cafeteria lunch meeting with Sierra. Such a terrible attitude from both, and definitely not I enjoy reading about in my books. Honestly at that point, the biggest thing I wanted answered was why on earth Omar called his cat Isis (I know about the goddess, but there is a much more notorious Isis in modern history that I don't doubt Omar was impacted by). But based on how the book was going, I really doubted it was going to be discussed at all. So yeah, it was at that point after Sierra and Omar meeting that I decided to just abandon.
I was also planing on marking this author as not-for-me, but I checked and I had 3 other books by this author on my tbr. So I won't give up on him just yet, but it's a close thing.
The Nursling is the second book in the Heartstrings of Honor romance series. Omar has just started a new nursing job in the NICU when he meets Matty, an emergency room nurse who isn’t afraid to be himself. There is an instant connection between the two of them and a relationship quick forms. Omar and Matty couldn’t be more opposite, but they are perfect together.
I am always a fan of Casey Morales’ books and this one was no different. The characters in this book were so in-depth and engaging. I really enjoyed seeing Omar and Matty’s relationship form and grow as life threw curve balls their way. Omar was such a complex character and I really enjoyed all the sides of him. This book is full of humor, romance feels and moments that pull at your heartstrings. It’s a quick read and a fun storyline. If you are an opposites attract fan this is a good book to check out!
I did enjoy this book. Omar and Matty were likeable, and it explored some meaningful issues.
But it would have been so much better if it had been a more cohesive story.
The relationship was fun, but there weren't really any dramas there. The sex/relationship dynamics were fun, but not really relevant.
Omar's family issues were interesting, but they were almost entirely unrelated to his relationship with Matty. The situation with Josh was interesting, but again, not really related to anything else. Omar's friends appeared for 5 seconds and I still have no idea why. I guess it was all (apart from Omar's friends - why even?) tied up in the end as yay family, but that hadn't really been an issue in the first place.
Matty had no issues and no plotline and was nice enough but kinda boring. He needed something going on in his life, especially since the book was dual-perspective.
Happy! I felt very happy reading this story. I read it with a smile on my face and I had many LoL moments! Omar, is starting a new job as a Nurse in the NICU. He meets Matty, a hospital nurse ambassador for new hires at orientation. Omar's first week, he is getting his feet under himself and feeling a bit overwhelmed. Matty, is the sassy, sexy, salaciiously sensitive welcoming committee everyone needs. He and Omar quickly find common ground, friendship and more. Delightful story about new beginnings, finding your tribe, and Omar getting a little wrinkled from his previously starched demeanor. An absolutely feel good story. The author does an amazing job creating such likeable characters to include friends and family. Very hot cover art! Well done! I'm still smiling. Matty, an ER nurse and one of the MCs is a riot!! And don’t forget…FAB-U-LOUSS!!! Omar, the other MC is a NICU nurse, new to the hospital and new to NICU and evidently, he’s also s3x on a stick…at least according to Matty.
There was a little bit of parental drama, on Omar’s side, but otherwise it was completely angst free (there was one thing that bugged me in the epilogue about his family but I’ll leave it up to the reader to see if it bothers them, it could just be me). It was also quite funny in places—you let the two MCs get wound up and they were hilarious! I especially loved all of the internal dialogue; several times I’d bust out laughing it’d be so funny. Overall it was an easy read, a little slow in the beginning, but it picked up fine and I enjoyed it. 4.5 stars!.

This is a relaxing and fun read.Omar and Matty are a good match I like that we get both their pov on their way to their hea. There seem to be some time jumps, but they do not bother me and keep the story moving along. I do like the pacing and style the author used. I did appreciate touching on loving family but not being able to create a bond. I wish we got a bit more about Matty his famiy.I also liked how these men created a safe place for Emily and her little one. I was only wondering about to side details; Where did Isis the cat go to or who took care of her whilst Omar was away? Where did Emily and Josh go to after he was released?: I know those are minor things but they niggle in my mind.
Triggers might apply for some.
