RELENTLESS: The Making Of An Investigative Reporter
In his second week at The Detroit News, Stephen Cain paved the way for a dying man to get a new heart, stories that saved all 83 of the nation’s federally-supported clinical research units. In his third week, he beat a 50-person federal task force by tracking down and interviewing the leader of a bombing conspiracy. Whether it was freeing a woman falsely convicted of infanticide or as an undercover patient in a state mental hospital, Cain wrote with insight, passion, and touches of humor as he chased stories during the last golden age of newspapers

Relentless is a riveting journey into a world most people know very little about -- the multifaceted and often dangerous life of an investigative news reporter. Stephen Cain ushers readers through numerous trials and tribulations as he explores real challenges faced by detectives, police officers and people accused of multiple crimes. In the process, he shares his own angst about pounding the pavement, encountering the homeless and comforting the forgotten. This book is a deep dive into street life, politics and journalism. In this day and age of microwave news, it's a must read for anyone who would like to learn more about the actual challenges of newsrooms and deadlines before the dawn of the internet.

It is very self-serving, but if you live in Detroit or Ann Arbor, its local stories may interest you. It also could use a good proof reader!
Sorry, I don't really recommend it.
