Two stories…thirty years apart. Will solving the mystery of the past provide the key to the present?
Scott Connelly arrives in the Suamalie Islands determined to acquire property for his father and leave as soon as possible. But he doesn’t count on the animosity of the residents, the fascinating local legend of a sunken Spanish treasure ship, or the highly unavailable waitress who comes to his rescue. The fabled treasure promises to buy his freedom, but even seeking it may be a dangerous risk.
News of her father’s death precedes Tavia Connelly’s arrival in the Suamalie Islands. Despite the hatred of the island residents, Tavia’s determined to settle her father’s affairs and return immediately to assume her role as head of the family company. But her father’s wishes require her to find out what happened long ago, given only Scott’s mumbled clues, crazy rumors, and a centuries-old fable.
Tavia should be safe after all those years, but her presence attracts a lot of resentment, and the ghosts of Scott’s enemies may still lie in wait for someone to come searching for a treasure that may have never existed.
But what if it did?

What a beautifully tragic love story woven between two engaging storylines.
Without reading the description before reading the book, I was a bit lost on how the 2 storylines connected. But once I discovered the connection, every chapter was more exciting than the last. I really enjoyed this unique twist on a romantic mystery with some elements of suspense. I’d say this is a fantastic beginning to the Suamalie Islands series.
Thanks so much to the author and Celebrate Lit for providing me an advanced copy.
I really loved reading this installation in the series. It was a love story but more of a mystery. There was a surprising ending, that was worth the wait. I loved it. If a reader likes mystery in between a love story then I truly recommend this book. I think a reader would enjoy this a stand-alone, but I recommend reading the entire series along with the other series that are part of the Islands stories.I am anxiously awaiting to read more of these characters. I received a complimentary copy from the author and Celebrate Lit and these opinions are my own.
What do you treasure? Is it something that can be bought, put on a shelf, in a garage, or on a finger? Not many of us have the opportunity to participate in an actual treasure hunt—sunken ship, chests of coins, island cove, attached to a myth. Yet, we are drawn to the search, the journey for something more. This installment of the Suamalie Islands deposits the reader on Oli Oli where island life explodes with a burst of energy as the present catapults into the past bringing up pieces of a thirty-year-old mystery, puzzling at the shapes of the pieces. Bravo, Amanda!
I am very excited to be starting a new series where islands come to life among secrets and hope. This first book is a dual time story rich in history and lays the foundation for a promising adventure. The author has created characters that made me want to travel with them as they searched for answers.
As the story opens we are introduced to Scott. I liked how he was determined to fulfill his task presented by his father. Maybe he was a bit too sure of himself. The tension in the air as he entered the little diner was felt by everyone. Scott is not welcomed there and soon finds out that danger comes in different forms. The locals don’t like change and want to keep their islands safe from progress. I can’t image being in a town knowing that I was disliked by everyone. How do you find answers you need when no one will be civil to you?
Moving to the present we meet Tavia who has traveled to the islands to settle her father’s affairs. With an almost same welcome as her father’s, Tavia is met with islanders who will not help her at all. Much like her father thirty years ago, they will not put out welcome mats for her. Her father has left a lasting impression on this place that follows her into danger. I wanted her to unravel the mystery of the treasure that has been a rumor for so long. She thought maybe Luc would be the answer she needed to help her, but I’m not sure if he is happy to be around her.
The two time lines are very intriguing and the author delivers the perfect storm when past and present collide. There are moments of intense drama throughout the story. One was when Tavia and Luc are diving. We can vividly see the beautiful creatures swimming by as they go deeper under water. In an instant everything changed. Did someone sabotage Tavia’s air tank? I was on the edge of my seat as the scene unfolded. We witness a beautiful love story between two people who are desperate to be with each other. Will they be able to move forward or will lies and control keep them apart?
I fell in love with this story and have a new appreciation for the author’s talent. She delivers a story that shared her research to make the book more realistic. The characters are very well developed and the faith element is centered within the depths of each character. Come join the adventure as we travel to an island rich in history, danger, secrets, lost love and new relationships. What treasure are you seeking in your life?
“The past should not dictate our future.”
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
I LOVE Christian Contemporary Romance books and I also enjoy "new to me" Authors. Where Treasure Lies by Amanda Tru fits both of those and is the latest book I have read and be able to share with you all! This book is Book 1 in the new series, Suamalie Islands which is written by 9 different authors.
The book begins 30 yrs in the past. Scott Connelly has come to Suamalie Island to settle his father's estate. He wants to get everything cleared up and return home as soon as possible. The townspeople give him a very "UNWARM" welcome. Well in town a lot happens including a legend of a Sunken Spanish Ship and a local Waitress who helps rescue him. He knows he is at risk of danger but the waitress helps him. We come 30 years to the present and Scott's Daughter, Tavia, has come to Suamalie Island to take care of her father's Estate. Tavia isn't welcomed very well by the Island people and she wants to settle the Estate and go back home where she is in charge of the Family Company. The caveat is that her Dad left her instructions that she is to solve the mystery from 30 yrs ago, what happened when he was last on the Island. Tavia has very few clues and not a lot of information about the Treasure from long ago, but she is determined to honor her father's wishes. Will Tavia be able to fulfill Scott's wishes for his Estate? Will she be in any danger in doing so?
WOW, just WOW! I LOVED this Dual Time Line book from the very beginning to the end of the book. I LOVE how both Scott and Tavia were on the Island to settle the Estates of their Dad's, even though 30 yrs apart. The fact that they came to the Island knowing the residents didn't take too kindly to them. The story was filled with excitement, drama, and Family. The ending took a surprising turn, but a wonderful ending. This was my first time reading a book by Amanda Tru and I LOVE her writing style. I am looking forward to more books in this series! I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Chrsitian Romance books! FANTASTIC BOOK!
What I think you should know: Where Treasure Lies is the first book in the Suamalie Islands series by Amanda Tru. The series is a Contemporary Christian Fiction set on a fictional set of Islands in the Pacific. The series is written by several authors with stories that have the common connection of the Island. This is a dual timeline book with one timeline set 30 years ago featuring Scott Connelly and a contemporary story featuring his daughter Tavia.
What you might need to know: There are brief mentions of child abuse and domestic violence.
What I think about this book: This was an amazing start to Tru’s contributions to the Suamalie Islands. I love how the dual timeline story gave us background information on Oli Oli and its inhabitants. Scott’s story was so mysterious and interesting, but it was nothing compared to Tavia’s . Imagine traveling to an Island you have never heard of to take care of business only to find out that you are so hated that the residents won’t even give you water. I can’t imagine being in Tavia’s situation, but it made for a great story! I rarely read a book and think that it would be an awesome movie, but this is definitely one for me! This was an amazing story that captivated my imagination and tugged at my heart. I love how one of the characters said “ Instead of turning to the One in Charge, I took control myself…” How many times have we done the same thing and changed our lives because of it? I cannot wait to see whose story Tru gives us next and what kind of amazing adventures she will take us on while visiting the Suamalie Islands.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Celebrate Lit, this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
Scott didn't come to Oli Oli to fall in love - he came because his father made him. But he fell in love anyway. The only problem? She's expected to marry someone else. Only finding a fabled treasure could save them - but treasure-hunting may not be the safest either... Thirty years later, his daughter Tavia arrives with two last requests to fulfil: find Keke Laurent and sell her father's land. But to do so, she'll have to find out what exactly happened all those years ago - a difficult task when everyone on the island seems to hate her because of her father. Will she manage to work out what happened all those years ago and discover what happened to the treasure? And can her time on the island teach her what the real treasure is?
I find that dual-time books can be a bit hit and miss, but this one is definitely a hit. The two storylines are beautifully interwoven and complement each other perfectly - neither would be complete alone, and the timing when things are revealed is impeccable. More importantly, both introduce what feel like real people with their own real struggles, people I enjoyed getting to know and was sorry to say goodbye to. As for the plot twist - well, I don't want to give anything away, but I definitely didn't see it coming and I loved it. An enjoyable, heart-warming, satisfying story - I hope to return to the island soon!
Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.
Where Treasure Lies is book one in the Suamalie Islands series. This one is written by Amanda Tru. This book goes back and forth between Scott Connelly and Tavia his daughter. The stories are separated by thirty years. Scott was sent to Oli Oli to scout land out for development. He is met with a lot of resentment when the locals catch whiff of what he wants to do. He hears a story about a possible buried treasure and he is determined to try and find it. He meets local island girl, Kekoa who seems to be the only person that will talk to him. Kekoa unfortunately is under the control of a thug who likes to run the island by using violence.
Tavia is sent to Suamalie Islands to liquidate her dad's assets. She wants to get in and out - and as soon as she is picked up by the Uber driver she realizes that the Connelly name is not a welcomed one on the island. Her dad left her with little information on how to handle his business on the islands. She was told to ask for Keke and when she finds her - she is met with a brick wall. Everyone on the island thinks that her dad stole the treasure and left Kekoa behind.
I really enjoyed the dual stories. I felt that we really got to know the Connelly family. We were able to see how both despised being on the island at first but then soon realized there was more then meets the eye. The added mystery of the treasure was a fun mix in. I cannot wait until the next book in the series.
Thank you to the author, publisher and Celebrate Lit for allowing me to read a copy of this book - all thoughts are my own.
This book is the start of a new collection of books written by nine different authors all set in the fictional islands of Suamalie. Each book will be full of wonderful adventures and fun! In this story, the reader is taken on quite an adventure. It’s actually two stories that span thirty years and connect in a way that will keep your heart pounding and you never want to put the book down. It's a story that will make you crave sand between your toes, a warm breeze on your face, and . . . the desire to find a treasure! This book has so much in it, drama, sweet romance, tension, mystery, suspense, shipwrecks, hurricanes, and treasure hunting. I loved all the relationships and how they connected. This book was so well written that I could see it put into a movie! I love reading whatever Anamda Tru writes! Amanda Tru is really a wonderful author who brings life to her characters and their struggles. She weaves so many emotions into each of her books. It was exquisitely written and flowed smoothly. I felt my heart pounding. I laughed, I smiled, I wanted to scream at the characters, and I cried, throughout the book. There were so many emotions in just one reading! She also weaves wonderful life lessons throughout this story. Lessons regarding family, friends, and the love of God. I really enjoyed this book and would highly recommend others to pick it up.
Tavia Connelly. Daughter of the village enemy. Just trying to do a good thing and help the town. Hard to do when no one will even give her a cup of water in what’s clearly an emergency situation.
Luc Renaud. Thinks the best way to keep Tavia from getting hurt is to make her miserable enough to leave.
The dynamics of this one are intense. Between the dual timeline and the unspoken threats hanging over the outsiders, it's difficult to put down.
Themes of trust, trusting each other, and trusting God, are so well woven in here, along with gems of wisdom and humor that kept me glued to the kindle for 3 hours straight.
A few of my favorites:
Money is just a means to an end. The end for me is helping others in a way that fulfills what God has set on my heart.”
“If God is in charge of everything, and that everything includes keeping us safe, don’t you think His sovereignty also includes our bad decisions? I know you’ve dealt with some ugly consequences, but I don’t think you stepped out of God’s area of control.
“Tavia Connelly, I don’t know that I like you, but I think I might love you.”
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit and chose to review it here. All thoughts are my own.
I was a little surprised by Where Treasure Lies. I have read many of the Indepence Island series and thought this was a spin off so I was expecting a somewhat similar storyline. I also read the prequel to the series which is similar. Where Treasure Lies does contain romance but it is more mystery than I was expecting. That is not to say it isn’t good because it is and I enjoyed it. It just wasn’t what I was expecting. Tru chose double timelines and 2 characters to tell the story in alternating chapters. Scott, the father, tells his story from 30 years ago. Tavia tells the present day story. Scott is the son of a developer carrying out his father’s wishes in the island of Oli Oli - an island that doesn’t welcome outsiders or changes. Tavia is Scott’s daughter returning to the island to carry out Scott’s wishes. Tru includes a lot of plot twists and drama to keep the story moving. The story has a surprise toward the end that I didn’t see coming. Where Treasure Lies is an Christian adult contemporary romance novel. It could find a place in a K-12 Christian school library. I think high schoolers might enjoy it. I received a complimentary copy of Where Treasure Lies. This is my honest review.
Where Treasure Lies by Amanda Tru is a work of Christian Contemporary Romance. It is the first book in the Suamalie Islands series. A sunken treasure, ghosts of the past, plus a daughter charged with discovering what happened in the past.
In the past, Scott Connelly arrives in the Sumalie Islands determined to quickly purchase land for his father and to return to his life on the mainland. But a poker game, a waitress, and the animosity of the islanders wreak some havoc on his plans.
In the present, Tavia Connelly arrives on the island determined to settle her father’s affairs on the islands and return to the mainland to assume the position as the head of her father’s company. But once again, the animosity of the islanders disturbs her plans.
I love how the author weaves together the past and the present. I also appreciate how Amanda Tru develops the characters of Scott and Tavia, along with those around them. The story developed at a pace that kept me interested. I appreciated the sunken treasure being included in the story.
So if you enjoy works of Christian Contemporary Romance, check out Where Treasure Lies by Amanda Tru. I definitely recommend it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
This is book one of a series that has four books so far, and will have nine total. The series will have different authors, but the same setting. For a series opener, this book did a good job. The setting is the Suamalie Islands. Sure, we have some fictional places and so on, but over all the world building there was fantastic. Here we have a dual time line, with a rich story and a new desperate need for warm days and a beach under my feet. Tavia is a good character. I about cried when she was dealing with her father's affairs aka his estate because I know how that feels. Diving in this book was fantastic. I have years of fish raising experience and a love of ocean life, so I can tell you I liked what the author did there.
Then there's the mystery of where did the treasure go? What IS your treasure? What can you really take with you when you leave this world? What treasures do you need or want, what matters while you are here?
I loved the theme, the ebb and flow, and pretty much everything about this story. I appreciated the mystery and I am looking forward to seeing what the next author does for this series.
Thanks to Celebrate Lit for my digital copy of this book. This review is mine and a positive review is never required.
Where Treasure Lies, by Amanda Tru, is the first book in the Suamalie Island series. This is a great new series written by different authors and published by Celebrate Lit Publishing. This story is a dual timeline story. Scott arrives on the island to buy property for his father, he falls for a young lady who is already taken. Together they search to find sunken treasure. Fast forward 30 years and Scott’s daughter, Tavia, returns when news of her father’s death is reported. People on the island will not talk with her because of what they thought her father did years ago.
This is a great story. It is well written and easy to read. I enjoyed how descriptive it was and how easy to imagine. This is a fun, easy to read romance fiction that is filled with action, suspense and mystery. This story is basically two stories in one. It has so much happening with rumors of sunken ships with treasures, actual chests of coins, and a crime organization that spans two generations. I especially enjoyed how the characters trust in God to keep the ones they loved safe.
I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book, this is my honest review.
This island story draws readers swiftly into the suspenseful tale and the curiosity and dangers the main characters face. I did have a bit of trouble switching my mind back and forth with the transition between the different time periods in this intriguing parallel story. I expected more mystery and not the hot romance with an unavailable woman and all the relationship struggles in the book. Readers will discover the details of Scott Connelly’s visit to the Suamalie Islands three decades earlier as they journey along with his daughter, Tavia, who visits the island in order to deal with what he left behind long ago. Readers must be patient as details about the past, which still affects the present, slowly unfold. The novel keeps readers guessing with its twists and surprises, as we devour the text to see how it will all turn out. And what about the rumored sunken treasure? Whom shall we root for? Get ready for an island adventure with determined characters. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.
Where Treasure Lies is a fun dual-timeline novel that brings you mystery and romance and pirate treasure ships. I’m not normally a fan of pirate fiction or pirate lore. This book might just change my mind!
I loved how real the characters are. They aren’t picture perfect and have troubles that they’re working through. Neither of our present-day characters wants to be on the island but they’re both there because they have a family commitment.
This is a romance novel but it’s also got some intense moments of danger. The author describes the sense so well that you feel you’re there. Especially as death seems to loom.

Reading this book was like watching a clean romantic action movie that had several well-timed plot twists. It didn’t take long for me to become involved in this story and be eagerly waiting to see what surprises the next chapter held.
This is a duel time novel and the author moves the story back and forth between a thirty year time span with ease. I enjoyed learning the details of the lives of the main characters through the years and seeing how their stories came together in unexpected ways at the end of the book. I liked the personalities of the four main characters and loved the sparks that flew between them at times.
The author effectively uses a faith theme of trusting God with the unknown in our lives and turning to Him in times of trouble instead of depending on our own understanding to help us think of how this could also apply to our own lives. This was a fun book to read and I’m already looking for more books by this author.
I voluntarily received a copy of this book from the publisher. I was not required to write a review. All opinions are my own.
Adventure, mystery, romance and a plot twist - all great reasons to read Amanda Tru's latest book. It's the first in a series by 9 different authors. The story itself is complete so that even if you never read any of the other books, you'd walk away feeling satisfied.
The book contains two main story lines set 30 years apart. I didn't find this difficult to follow and in fact added to my enjoyment of the story. It was a well written story with interesting characters. The story is Christian but not overly preachy but does have a message of trusting God.
Well worth a read as well as Amanda's other series including the 'Yesterday' series which I highly enjoyed - also with a great plot twist!
I receive complimentary books for various sources including, Netgalley, Authors, and other such sources. I am not required to write a positive review and have not received compensation.

Where Treasure Lies by Amanda Tru is a wonderful start to the multi author Suamalie Islands series. I thought it was a great story to get into on a rainy and cold afternoon. It has a lot I like reading in a story: mystery, intrigue, adventure and romance. It is not one that can be easily predictable, making me want to continue to turn the pages. I like the lesson of hope, faith and putting your trust God.
I am giving Where Treasure Lies four and a half stars. I recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean and sweet romance. I am looking forward to the next installment from the Suamalie Islands series, Rachel Skatvold’s Wheeler's Design.
I received a digital copy of Where Treasure Lies from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
My first Amanda Tru novel. I've been wanting to read one of her books for a while, and I was excited about the tropical island setting of this one.
As a general rule of thumb, I'm not a fan of dual timeline novels, but I liked the way Tru wrote this one. Something about the thirty-year span and the father/daughter stories made it easier for me to get into and enjoy.
The story does ask you to suspend belief a bit (Scott's able to find a 200-year-old treasure after a few weeks on the island while no locals have ever been able to), but overall it's a fun story: a tropical island, local mob boss, forbidden love, sunken treasure, a hurricane, a grumpy hero, a stubborn heroine. A lot of fun elements made for a fun read.
I really enjoyed this first book in the Suamalie Islands series. The author skillfully pens two split-time stories that merge into one. Secrets of the past, tales of shipwrecks full of treasure, and an island mafia threaten Tavia's mission to carryout her father's final wishes. I absolutely loved this treasure hunt...and the faith thread of where true treasure is found.
I received a complimentary copy from the author/publisher through CelebrateLit. I was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
I really enjoyed this story so much. I enjoyed the time slip part of it as well. Going on an island adventure was especially fun with looking for a treasure. The suspense part had me on the edge of my seat more than a few times. I enjoyed the characters and it had a surprising HEA. I look forward to reading the other books in the series as they come out. This authors’ books are always fantastic. Nice Christian and clean read.
This is a beautifully written time split romance that hooks you on the first page. It is full of danger, drama, suspense, and romance. I loved everything about this and hated to see it end, but I just had to know what happened next. I received a complimentary copy and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
The new Suamalie Islands series begins with a winner right from the starting gate with Where Treasure Lies. Author Amanda Tru writes a touching, suspense filled story that will keep you reading. The characters are real, and their love stories just might break your heart. Watch for the twist! Congratulations, Amanda, on a job well done.
I’ve always enjoyed Amanda Tru’s books, this one was a little slower. I didn’t click with the characters but the storyline was interesting and well developed. I haven’t read any other books in this series so that may be why I was not as invested.
The first book in the Suamali Islands series, Where Treasure Lies by Amanda Tru, sets a high bar. This novel features a dual timeline/POV story featuring a father and daughter as they seek long-lost treasure. Along the way, they'll also dodge mobsters, try to help those in need and open their hearts to love.
Mistrust and rumor abound, and the stakes are high, but both father and daughter have a goal they must meet. Locating treasure means more than obtaining a level of comfort and a life in paradise. It's about doing what is best for the people who depend on them.
Where Treasure Lies is an adventurous island romance that is a pleasure to read.
