In a nutshell, this book is about just what the title says: philosophical and theological lessons learned by Fr. Ripperger while growing up and working in his father's repair shop. Though few, if any, of these lessons are uniquely Catholic. Any person of faith will be able to identify with and appreciate this book.
Most of these lessons are tied to specific episodes in the author's life and range in length from 1-2 pages to just a few sentences. Although each lesson/subsection is individual to itself, there is a thread through them that makes them read chronologically smoothly and the author's casual style and ease of language makes this a very quick and enjoyable read.
Further, the lessons to be taught fit naturally into each episode and never feel shoe-horned or superficial. There are many important lessons here about faith and manhood and this is a book I will encourage my own son to read.
Unfortunately, this edition does suffer from several punctuation errors, usually in the form of an incorrectly used or omitted apostrophe, as well as the occasional awkward/redundant sentence. Nonetheless, these issues do not significantly detract from the overall quality of the book.
