"In this world where there is light, there must be shadows where there is good, there must be evil."
Chang Sheng's second volume of Yan starts on the streets of Taipei, where Yan and Higa Mirai face off against a giant robot dispatched by Flora Technologies. Higa Mirai's so-called "reinforcements" not only possess superpowers but also claim to be survivors of the explosion at the research facility! This begs the question about what actually happened 30 years ago. Thirteen is from Flora Technologies, given the permission to develop self awareness, tin it's new form it seeks out revenge, it's target is all humankind. With chaos fast approaching can they figure out the truth amongst it?
The revenge story very much continues in this volume however the focus is more on the character of Miku. I liked this shift as her abilities of seeing five minutes into the future are truly tested. Her frustrations with trying to fix things does make the reader sympathise with her yet her determination drives the story on.
The returning character of the detective was great, I love how he balances out the group dynamic. With the introduction of the new character "Rabbit" there are interesting shifts in who believes his backstory and how his abilities will either help or make things worse for them.
The artwork once again was incredible. The fight sequences were crazy and you did have to take your time taking everything in.
I did again enjoy reading Yan, I can't wait to see where the story goes in the next volume.
Many thanks to @titanmanga @titancomics for a copy of Yan Volume Two which is out now.
