HICKMAN AND CAPULLO JOIN FORCES FOR A WOLVERINE EPIC LIKE NO OTHER! Greg Capullo makes his grand return to Marvel Comics storytelling as he and Jonathan Hickman pit WOLVERINE against a cadre of foes who will turn his world upside down! He's been beaten! He's been bloodied! And LOGAN only has one thought on his REVENGE! Don't miss this prestige miniseries, set to become one of the defining tales in Wolverine's storied legend!
Jonathan Hickman is an American comic book writer and artist. He is known for creating the Image Comics series The Nightly News, The Manhattan Projects and East of West, as well as working on Marvel Comics' Fantastic Four, FF, and S.H.I.E.L.D. titles. In 2012, Hickman ended his run on the Fantastic Four titles to write The Avengers and The New Avengers, as part the "Marvel NOW!" relaunch. In 2013, Hickman wrote a six-part miniseries, Infinity, plus Avengers tie-ins for Marvel Comics. In 2015, he wrote the crossover event Secret Wars. - Wikipedia
What a great start to a miniseries! Nothing too deep or grounded, just good, popcorn fun. I've loved Greg Capullo's art for Reborn and Batman and it's great seeing his Marvel work too.
I haven't had the opportunity to read Hickman's Fantastic Four yet, but I'm glad to be reading this. It's so much fun. I don't think it's canon, so there are actual stakes too!
Savage Land. Wolverine is on it. His favorite thing to do, which is "slicing and dicing". But who knew Nick Fury would appear there to give Logan a serious reality check!
When Jonathan Hickman and Greg Capullo blends together to publish a work, the expectation would definitely be sky high.
Logan must team up with Captain America, Winter Soldier and others to save millions / billions of lives. The stakes are too damn high here.
It's like an almost apocalyptic situation where one side of Earth is deeply darkened and the other side is somehow being lit.
Wolverine gets to see some of his team members being brutally murdered.
Hickman's writing is smooth but I feel some of the panels were not needed. When Hickman and Capulo works together, they need not to create some ordinary panels.
Jonathan Hickman is kind of a writer one can rely on. The first issue has given us the glimpse of what awaits further.
Whether it's about saving the world or avenging teammates death, Wolverine has his priorities straight.
REVENGE.

Picked this up pretty much solely because the "Red Band" thing. Seemed like a fun gimmick. I always thought it was weird there's so much blood in Blade, Punisher, and Deadpool movies but the comics (from what little I've read) seemed largely bloodless. There's the MAX imprint, which apparently still exists and/or was revived for a recent Punisher/Fury miniseries.
There's some significance for Capullo's return to Marvel, but I don't know how important this is exactly because I simply do not know him from Marvel; I know him from Spawn, which, in fairness, is not-Marvel, and I guess he may have left Marvel for Image when McFarlane and Liefeld, et al., left to form that new company. Or maybe the big deal is just that Capullo doesn't work for major rival DC anymore? Regardless, his art is still pretty cool, but "cleaner" than the '90s edgelord style I know from Spawn ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I don't really follow American comics so I don't know how canon this is. It seems like a huge leap to have killed off millions of people from a meteor landing around Canada. And Magneto is dead. And Colossus is a bad guy!? (Nice facial hair tbh)
I don't quite get the "othering" when Deadpool refers to Wolverine as representative of "America's hat." Deadpool is also Canadian.

Great art by Capullo and compelling story by Hickman, but likely it will make you angry as major characters are killed off left and right, along with tens of millions of Canadians. It starts out pretty dark, and gets darker as you realize that Wolverine is obsessed with Revenge. This revenge involves capturing Sabretooth and exposing him to a device that keeps him from regenerating, and cutting pieces off him every year as a twisted form of vengeance. That seems pretty dark even for Wolverine.
Also, (SPOILER) Wolverine finds himself at odds with Colossus in this story--though the reason is never explained. He kills Colossus and then later allows himself to be killed by Colossus's son in purgatory/hell--or that's what appears to happen.
Overall, it was an interesting read--but this utterly morally bankrupt Wolverine is a bit too anti of an anti-hero for me.
Wolverine Revenge is a fun little story arch that has Wolverine seeking out a vendetta against classic rivals and even a friend. Although the notion of revenge is not novel for Wolverine, the set up is: basically he tries to stop the end of the world/apocalyptic event from occurring, but is unsuccessful. Dealing with the fallout proves to be too much emotionally for Wolverine and he has to settle the score. This builds up to an interesting climax with his former friend and family that’s fantastic. I just watched Captain America Civil War and there is some interesting parallels particularly around the all consuming effects of revenge on a person and those around them.
A story about Logan’s revenge against the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Set in a timeline where Magneto has died, a massive EMP blast shuts down every power source in the world, throwing society into chaos.
It’s pretty bland tbh, the pacing is not that nice as well for me. At first, I thought I was the one to blame since I’m not used to the US comic format anymore, but then I remembered how Watchmen still gives me goosebumps every time I read it. But considering i get to see old man Logan, I can’t complain much.
That said, the art really worked for me, especially during the fight scenes. Solid artwork throughout and definitely the strongest part of the book. Overall, it’s a 3/5 for me.
Let’s be honest. The big draw here (pun intended) is watching Greg Capullo splash around in the Marvel pool again. And you know what? He’s making some waves! Belabored metaphor aside, Capullo’s work is reliably excellent. Jonathan Hickman has the beginnings of an interesting story here, definitely enough to get me to add this to my pull list. My only problem really - and this is a “me problem” - is that I haven’t been keeping up with a lot of the Marvel continuity so I was a little lost when Hickman referenced some prior events.
Hickman always knows how to hype up a cool moment and really leave me wanting more.
I told myself id wait for the whole thing to be out before starting to read it but I just couldnt help myself and now I am left stuck on the edge of my seat.
This is an interesting mash-up of characters that starts with Wolverine riding in on a triceratops. The cast includes Winter Soldier, Nick Fury, Captain America, Saber Tooth, Deadpool, and Mastermind. Don't expect funny Deadpool in this story. He is part of the League of Evil Mutants
This was a nice surprise, totally mature read and awesome gorey visuals with Wolverine and the Avengers and X Men cast in a post apocalyptic setting, with the legendary Greg Capullo illustrating, never has been a better concept.
Great start, Greg Capullos captivating and gory art mixed in a pot with Hickmans heavily intuitive science fiction writing is a blast. I can't wait for more
