Brandon Ward is on the verge of turning fifty and spends his days and nights dreaming he’s back in the fight. He misses his Special Forces career, and running a bar in the middle of nowhere isn’t cutting it. Feeling useless, like he’s lost his purpose, Brand and his ragtag group of former military friends struggle to accept their Glory Days are over.
Julia Evans is a jaded artist who’s given up on love and believes she’s destined to die alone. When she suspects her father is being held captive by a powerful drug cartel, she turns to Brandon for help. Even though they’ve never met, she hopes to convince the former Delta Force operator to join her on a dangerous rescue mission. Julia may be ready to dodge bullets and face hostile enemies, but facing the undeniable chemistry that sparks between her and Brand? Nothing scares her more.
After meeting Julia, Brand can understand why his old mentor never introduced them. After all, Brand is a self-proclaimed bachelor who doesn’t believe in serious relationships…hardly the type of guy a father wants his daughter to get involved with. But Julia is making Brand reconsider his old beliefs.
Accepting the mission, Brand and his battle-hardened motley crew form a new team and don’t hesitate to dive back into the action and danger. With a new purpose, they head straight into the belly of the beast, ready to do what they were born to do—kick some ass. Because that’s what they do best. It’s all they know, and these washed-up silver foxes have nothing left to lose.
**Each book in the All Guts, No Glory series can be read as a standalone. Expect action, plenty of silver fox heroes, mature heroines and an HEA.
I loved this book, especially the main characters who were 50 and 45. It was so refreshing to read about a couple of people over the age of 50! Looking forward to the next book!!
Start to a new series, and its oh so good. We meet a group of silver foxes who are not doing well with retirement from action. They're grumpy, starting to feel their age, and miss the "good ol' days" of hunting the bad guys. Brandon and the guys get a chance to do some action hero stuff again when Julia comes knocking on his door for help finding her dad. This is an action packed, rollercoaster of a story, as Julia and Brand begin their love story amongst chaos, destruction and violence. Thoroughly enjoyed their story, and the banterous comradery between "The Motley Crew" is both hilarious and ridiculous, ribbing each other on aging, and the side effects of inching closer to the big 50.
I loved this story from the first sentence. I knew I would, because let’s face it, Charissa Gracyk doesn’t write anything that’s not pure gold. And this story is no different. This is yet another book I’ll be buying the ebook and paperback of.
This story has something that is missing out of other books with older characters. It’s relatable. Yes these characters can seriously kick ass but they’re also people whose bodies are starting to show the consequences of age. This is something I think most of us can relate to. Granted I haven’t led the life Brand and the guys have but being 52, I can totally relate to the aches and joint creaks.
I love how Charissa has made a point to portray these guys as not perfect, whilst also portraying men who have a lifetime of experience behind them. Men who may be older and suffering from mental or physical struggles, but they are by no means out and I love that.
Brand is a total alpha male. A man who fought tooth and nail for his country, to protect those who can’t protect themselves. A man who sees age barrelling towards him and realises that something is missing. I can relate to this, as I’m sure many others can.
I love his camaraderie and sense of family he has found with the guys. The indisputable bond between them so real and heartwarming.
I love the instant bond between Brand and Julia despite the way they were brought together. The way he morphed into a man who’d found his missing piece was so damn heartwarming.
Watching him work alongside his family, being back in the thick of it was pure poetry in motion. They worked together like a well oiled machine and it was breathtaking to have a front row seat to.
Julia is a strong and independent character. She’s able to stand her ground, while also being pure of heart. Her soul is like a breath of fresh air lighting up everyone and everything around her. She is the perfect partner for Brand in every way.
I love the relationship she has with her father. Their closeness was beautiful to witness. Both hard headed and stubborn but also full of love for those in their lives.
It’s beautiful to see the way she opens up to Brand, both in body and mind. The way she could let go and just be herself, both in and out of bed was awe inspiring and expelled enough heat to warm a city in the dead of winter.
I loved her stubborn streak and determination to be part of their group when they go on a rescue mission. You can tell she’s terrified but her bravery and strength comes through in full technicolour magic.
This story is full of depth and emotions, it carries you on a wonder pjs journey that pulls a myriad of emotions from you. Charissa has once again not only knocked it out of the park, but out of the stratosphere.
This book, as all previous books is written with love and a talent that is truly limitless. If you can’t tell from the review I can’t recommend this story or Charissa highly enough.
Absolutely phenomenal. So many stars it really is impossible to count.
I was hooked right from chapter one! Brandon and his crew are all attitude, and it’s perfect. And hello! These silver foxes are so fine, and each one is deadly with their unique skills. I enjoyed their banter. These are the kind of men you could sit down with, have a drink with, and spend some time listening to their stories.
Brand’s idea of happiness has been his military career, being a forever bachelor, and now his bar. Julia and his upcoming fiftieth birthday shook everything up. Instant attraction, flirting, and teasing are all on display between Brand and Julia. There was no doubt these two were going to be combustible together! Their intimate moments were way steamier than I expected and definitely grabbed my attention.
A lot was going on in the first book of this new series. It introduced the team to set up the future stories, fully developed Brand and Julia’s storyline, and had a good suspense plot. That’s a lot to juggle, but it was an easy read with a story that flowed well and had perfect pacing and details.
The bar has been set high with this book. I have no doubt the remaining books will meet my expectations. This has the potential to be my favorite Gracyk series. I’m thinking I may have a couple of new book boyfriends before the series is done!
I’ve been waiting for a silver fox protector romance and Charissa Gracyk’s new series All Gut’s No Glory is just what I've been wanting.
Brandon is nearing his 50th birthday and is not ready to just fade away. This retired Special Forces is running a bar in a small town and he’s struggling to settle into that life forever. When his old mentor’s daughter Julia walks into his bar asking for his help, he’s all in. And his life is about to change in more ways than one!
Brandon, Julia, and his friends, all retired military join together to rescue her father from the cartel. As they work together, things heat up between Julia and Brandon and it’s clear they need each other.
This book was everything I expected and more. Gracyk knows how to build the characters and draw the reader in until you feel like you are part of the action. Throughout this book we get to know the rest of Brandon’s friends, setting them up for future books. I can’t say enough good things about this book! After reading this book you might want to take up painting! I know I do.
I had such an awesome time with this Silver Fox story!
Brand is the ultimate hero who just needs to find a new purpose in life…..
Maybe it’s because I just celebrated my 51st birthday, but all I know is that I related to these characters so much and it added an emotional connection that I can’t wait to experience again with the next book!
Charissa Gracyk is an absolute genius at creating characters that will make you fall in love with them, but also leave you on the edge of your seat as the action and suspense build!
I think my favorite part of her writing is that I’m left so completely satisfied and happy and also excited for the next Silver Foxes’ HEA!!!
Love, strength, courage, heat, and suspense all come together in a phenomenal new five star read!!
So the start of a new series fills me with a little trepidation, but Charissa Gracyk never disappoints. We meet Brandon a guy who is ex Special Forces running a bar in the middle of nowhere! He and his friends are all at a loose end, struggling to come to terms with nothing to do… Julia Evans is an artist who suspects her father is being held captive by a drug cartel. She travels to meet Brandon and his team to ask for their help in locating him. Brandon and his men agree to help out and head over to Mexico to rescue her father….. I really enjoyed how the guys related to each other but also the fact they are more mature, know who they are or were and are flawed in different ways, some suffering from PTSD, nightmares, injured, struggling mentally. I really enjoyed the repartee between the men, the stubbornness of each guy and how love evolved between the main characters. This is a series I will be following and look forward to reading book 2 in the very near future.
Silver foxes--check Military uniforms--check Silver foxes that used to wear uniforms--check
Brandon is one grumpy asshole. But I guess when you're approaching fifty and feel like your life no longer has meaning, you tend not to look on the bright side of things.
But when a ray of sunshine walks into his bar, looking for him personally, he can't stop himself from wanting to bask in her warm glow.
Julia has no one but her father. At forty-five, she's given up hope at finding love, getting married and starting a family. She's accepted that her only two loves are her father and her paintings. Until he goes M.I.A and she needs help rescuing him.
What she wasn't expecting to find when she walked into that bar, was a grumpy Silver fox that awakens parts of her she thought were past the expiry date.
This book is full of action, scenes that will stop your heart, hilarious banter and so much spice.
Introduce yourself to Brandon and his motley crew of misfits. You will not be disappointed.
Oh my God! What an incredible start to the new series All Guts No Glory. I absolutely loved it!! It’s a real page turner and it had me on the edge of my seat at times. Action packed and suspenseful!! And I immediately fell in love with Brandon!! I really liked that both Brandon and Julia are older and still found true love. I loved the banter between Brandon ‘s friends and the way they were coping with life after the military and getting older. I can’t wait to read about the rest of the guys and I’m intrigued with Xander Hawke and really want to know his story. Highly recommended! Another awesome read by one of my favorite author’s! I received this arc from the author and this review is my honest opinion
Brandon is the first book in the new All Guts No Glory series. This is a group of former military men living in Wyoming who became friends and spend their time in Brandon’s bar, Old Glory, reliving past battles and razzing each other. Brand is currently going through manopause because his 50th birthday is coming up and he feels something is missing from his life. He gets a visit from his old mentor’s daughter, Julia, who reports her dad has been missing for a week and his trip sent him to Mexico. A phone call sets up a meet with a stranger in Mexico who knows where her dad is located. Brand and Julia hit it off from the start but her a confirmed bachelor and she knows she’ll end up with a broken heart. Lots of laughs, action, suspense and steam. I really enjoyed this one and look forward to reading the rest of the series.
Tropes Forced proximity Silver Fox Former Military Found family Brandon is the first book in the All Guts, No Glory Series and this series is about a group of former military men moving to a small town in Wyoming after leaving the military and looking for some peace and quiet. Finding just the right location, Brandon opens a bar, being perfectly content in being not only the owner but the bartender as well. Julia travels to Wyoming to get help locating her father which she thinks is being held in Mexico by the cartel, little did she know exactly what she would find. Brandon is definitely not something she was looking for.
Looking forward to what is next in this excited new series! Charissa Gracyk never disappoints!
Charissa is kicking off her new series with a bang! Brandon was a page-turning, fun read from the beginning. Brandon is near fifty and is starting to feel it. He's enjoying his life running his bar in Montana with his close band of former military spec ops guys, but he misses the action. Right about this time, his former mentor and commanding officer's daughter wants his help finding her missing dad. Not only is she the first woman Brandon has been attracted to in years, but she's also offering a chance to get back in the fight.
The story is fast-paced and exciting, with just enough spice. Brandon's crew of former military operators is a wonderful mix of personalities and storylines to guarantee a great series to come. Brandon and Julia are a great cornerstone couple to build the series on, and I look forward to reading them as this series continues. If you like military romantic suspense, this is just right for you!
Thank you, Charissa Grayck, for the advanced reader copy. These opinions are my own.
Charissa Gracyk is such an amazing writer. She gets my heart pumping like no other. She can switch gears from steamy to edge of your seat action, all while telling a wonderful story. Every new book I read of hers is better then the last, and this one doesn’t disappoint.
Brandon and his misfit crew will make you fall in love with them. This is the first book in the new series All Guts, No Glory. You are hooked from page one and rooting for Brand and Julia immediately. Can Brand find love at 50? Can he save the day with the help of his crew? This action packed love story is a must read!
Great intro to a new series, a new team! Brandon is the first in a new series from Charissa Gracyk featuring a bunch of former military types and focusing on later in life romances. These guys are a Motley Crew, hanging out in a small town in Montana and are dragged back into the action when Brand's former mentor disappears during his latest op and his daughter, Julia, comes to Brand for help. The attraction between Julia and Brand is instantaneous and explosive and the action the team is involved in is just as explosive. Ms Gracyk always writes edge of your seat kind of action, and this is no exception, we get a great introduction to all the team members and their banter and teasing is on point. Looking forward to more from this series as this was an outstanding opening.
Loved it! Will read again He Aka Brand thought he was retired and a big birthday coming up was making him feel old but he still dreams each night of being in the military and being a soldier. When his mentor comes up missing and the daughter comes and finds Brand to help find her dad he can’t refuse so he gathers his buddies and they go back into action to get him back, what Brand doesn’t count on is falling for Julia the daughter and the romance that blooms between them is incredible. Our Author has another hit series I can see with this group of guys can’t wait for the next one
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I love the start of a new series. Getting to know the new cast of characters is always so much fun. I can't wait to read more about them as the series continues. I'm hoping for good back story on each of them and look forward to seeing the love interests Charissa finds for each silver fox! The instant love between Brandon and Julia was such fun and fueled an intense mission for the silver foxes. The suspense and the steam were top notch, as always, when reading a Charissa Gracyk book.
I absolutely loved this book. The relationship between Julia and Brandon is so amazing to watch unfold. Throw in some intrigue, and you just can't put the book down. The storyline flows smoothly. Charissa gets better with each book she writes. Definite five stars.
I read this book in one sitting and I didnt want it to end! It was so hot, steamy, and the “manopause” references were on point. Ms. Gracyk once again outdid herself. Can’t wait for the next book!
I wasn't sure how I would like a book with older characters, but Charissa nailed it! She created characters that understand the frustrations that come with age, but knows that it doesn't limit them. I loved the characters of Brandon and Julia.
I had an Absolute blast reading this book. I could relate to the age group of the TMC better. And who doesn't want their very own silver fox. The main characters are so great together. What was a one night stand, turned into a rescue and a very HEA. I totally recommend this book.
A great start to a new series! I just loved this book. The characters are retired military and unlikely friends who unexpectedly need to band together to save the day. The story will pull you in every step of the way. Definitely worth the read!
Ok, every time this author releases, I say that book is now my favorite, but, plot twist, they are all my favorite.
This is the silvery-bright new beginning of yet another wonderful series featuring SILVER FOXES. Yes. SILVER. FOXES. (You’re fanning yourself already, amiright?🤣)
You will not be disappointed because Brandon is an alpha kind of guy, he’s approaching his FIVE-OH milestone and looking back on life and his military career, which he misses, but the old boy’s got some gas left and when his mentor’s daughter needs help, he and his “guy gang” - I just made that up 😉- help with the mission.
If you’ve read a Charissa Gracyk book before, then you know you’re in for action, steamy time, love and family..and this series beginner has it all!
I knew I was going to love this book because it was by Charissa Gracyk, and I was not disappointed, I normally read books with characters in their 30s so the age group of these silver foxes was a new one for me, but not only did I fall in love with Brand and Julia but all the rest of the crew of misfits! Gives you hope that it’s never too late to find your own happily ever after!
Steamy & Suspenseful Silver Fox Series? Yes, Please!
Do I love a novel with swoony protectors willing to jump into intense situations to save the day, and often the girl? Yes, yes I do. Will I drop whatever I’m doing to read a novel when the swoony protectors are also silver foxes? You bet your arse! And you better believe I dove into Brandon, book 1 in Charissa Gracyk’s new series No Guts, No Glory, with high expectations. And as always, Charissa did not disappoint!
Brandon is the perfect series starter hero. A leader-of-the-pack, retired military silver fox, who’s also a self-proclaimed perpetual bachelor, he oozes swagger. He also hides his vulnerability pretty well—or so he thinks. Hey, getting old ain’t for the weak. And he’s having a time of it. But boy does he fall fast, heavy, and hard for Julia. And it is glorious to watch. Because she’s just as strong, determined, and yep, vulnerable as he is. But they are also beautifully incendiary together.
And while their love story ramps up, ignites, and comes together in a powerful and perfect HEA, readers get a glimpse into the lives of Brand’s friends and fellow soldiers, sailors, and pilots. I love the camaraderie between them all. And while the authentic connection between Brand and Julia is beautiful to watch, so are the connections between all the guys on the team. Because yes, although they all come from different backgrounds and various arms of the military, they are most definitely a team—there for each other personally, and professionally.
And while the character development draws you in, the element of suspense pulls the plot together, keeping readers guessing and on the edge of their seats. Through it all, Gracyk infuses the perfect blend of humor, some irreverent and even dark, but my favorite is the reflections of how they're getting older. How they see themselves. How they cope. And how they retain their youth while also bringing in that type of maturity and self-depreciation that only comes with years and experiencing life. The banter is epic.
Based on the set-up, I can already tell this is likely to be my favorite Charissa Gracyk series. Being book 1, Brandon is a standalone novel, with a fully actualized HEA and complete resolution to the plot conflict. But after having met Brand and the team, I already can’t wait for their next mission. And if Julia is any indication of the strong, confident, forces to be reckoned with Gracyk has waiting in the wings for the guys, I am here for the show!
4.5 stars! If you’ve read anything by this author previously, you will know that what you’re going to get is a fast paced, engrossing, spicy romance that will keep you on the edge of your seat in every way possible. What you might not be expecting is that with this book, you also get a sëxÿ silver fox and an equally sëxÿ, independent 45 year old woman who goes for what she wants.
Brandon (Brand) is living a quite, peaceful life in small town Montana. He has his own little found family of former military men (pretty much all special forces, but not from the same units), all in their late 40s, all just trying to get through their days, each with their own interesting personality. Brand owns a bar, and is content with his life…..mostly. As he quickly approaches his 50th birthday, he is starting to question his choice to never find someone special to spend his life with. But he also knows that his former life in the military special forces wasn’t terribly conducive to relationships, so he’s made peace with his decisions. When the gorgeous daughter of his old military mentor shows up on his doorstep asking for his help in finding her missing father, he’s immediately drawn to her, and he doesn’t hesitate to agree to help her.
Julia is living her life in D.C., basically going through the motions, not necessarily unhappy, but not really completely fulfilled either. When her father goes incommunicado while traveling for his work with the military, she immediately begins to worry, since their usual routine involves regular and consistent communication, since they are the only family they have left. In an act of desperation, she locates Brand’s information and flies to Montana hoping to convince him to help her so she doesn’t have to go it alone. What she doesn’t expect is the insanely attractive silver fox, and the undeniable attraction she has to him. When he agrees to help her, she’s thrilled, but she also wonders if he’s exactly what she needs to get out of her funk.
Like I said, these books are fast paced. The story sets up quickly, we meet the other guys who agree to help Brand on this mission, and get a tiny bit of each of their backstories. We are also treated to the fantastic chemistry between Brand and Julia in the form of forced proximity, only one bed, which is always a good time. The rescue mission kicks into high gear and we are met with tons of action and a lot more of that excellent chemistry. This book also sets up the underlying military-ish story that is going to be the set up and back drop for the rest of the series, which is great. The side characters are quickly established, one of which is more mysterious than the others, but I found myself interested in each of them and looking forward to their upcoming stories as well.
As for Brand and Julia, one of the things I loved most about their story is that they are older (mid/late 40s) but we are still given all the spice. Often when you get to the midlife romance stories, the spice is much lower, if at all, and that is most definitely not the case here, and I love that. Their situations are different, but attraction is attraction, and I love that we get everything. Their story is great, and I loved their journey to HEA.
When it comes to a mix of action, romance, and unforgettable characters, Charissa Gracyk’s Brandon is a fantastic start to her new series, No Guts, No Glory. Brandon Ward, a retired Special Forces guy nearing fifty, is restless and missing the thrill of his past life. Running a bar in the middle of nowhere just isn't cutting it, and his dreams are haunted by the battles he once fought.
Enter Julia Evans, a fiercely independent artist who thinks her dad’s been captured by a ruthless drug cartel. Desperate, she seeks out Brandon, hoping to convince him and his ragtag group of former military buddies to help her on a dangerous rescue mission. From the moment they meet, the chemistry between Brand and Julia is electric, adding a tantalizing layer of tension to their high-stakes adventure.
Gracyk’s writing shines with a perfect mix of grit and emotion, bringing the characters' struggles and triumphs to life. Brand’s internal conflict and Julia’s unwavering resolve are skillfully portrayed, making their journey as captivating as it is heartfelt. The camaraderie among Brand’s team is genuine and heartwarming, showcasing their humor, loyalty, and the unique challenges they face as they deal with their pasts.
The plot is packed with suspense and action, keeping you on the edge of your seat as Brand and his team navigate dangerous terrain to rescue Julia’s father. Gracyk balances intense action scenes with moments of vulnerability and connection, making every twist and turn in the story feel engaging and exciting.
This is a story of second chances and the unyielding spirit of warriors. Charissa Gracyk has crafted a compelling narrative that introduces a memorable cast of characters and sets up an exciting new series. Brandon is a must-read for anyone who loves a tale filled with heart, heat, and heroism. Dive into this adventure and experience the thrill of a second chance at life and love.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "BRANDON" This is a great interesting, intriguing, suspense filled drama, danger, action, steam, violence, destruction, chaos, twists that keeps you turning the pages to the end. Brandon a former Special Forces with his crew of former military operators, a great mix of personalities, he owns a bar called Old Glory where his friends meet talk about old battles & razzing each other. Brandon gets a visit from his old mentors daughter Julia who tells him her dad has been missing for a week his trip sent him to Mexico she got a call from a stranger in Mexico who knows where her father is located. Brandon & Julia are immediately attracted to each other but her a confirmed bachelor she knows she'll end up with broken heart. Brandon & his men agree to help her find her father & head out to Mexico to rescue him these guys were all great everything they've been through the banter between them is quite humorous at times, even though their flawed in different ways, suffering from PTSD, nightmares, injured & struggling mentally. I definitely recommend to get this riviting story I loved how Brandon & Julia come together falling for each other amongst all the chaos, destruction & violence will they get their HEA, find her father alive, a must read to see how it all turns out. EXCELLENT HOT START TO THIS NEW SERIES I LOVED IT 🖤 🖤 🖤 🖤 🖤
This book starts a new series about a group of Elite Special Forces warriors in their late forties who have moved to the small town of Cielo Springs, Montana, after their service. They are all still trying adjusting to civilian life. Some being more successful than others. Brandon/Brand Ward, owner of the local bar, Old Glory, is one of these men. With his fiftieth birthday around the corner, he’s starting to feel like his life is running away from him, especially since he never married or had kids. Besides, he still missing the action in the service. When Brandon gets an unexpected and desperate call from Julia Evans, daughter of his mentor Mitchell Evans, asking for help in rescuing her father from the cartel in Mexico, Brandon doesn’t hesitate to help. Knowing he needs help, his friends join him in the rescue, thus becoming a team. This rescue reminds them all that they are rescuers to the end and that’s what they are meant to be. More danger follows them and another life and death rescue occurs. Will they be successful this time as well? Will this rescue lead to a new black ops team where this Motley Crew is given a second chance of the adrenaline they all crave? This was a great start to the series, and one this reader will definite follow. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
What a wonderful read. Charissa Gracyk is still a relatively new to me author. I've read a few of her many, and I need to go back to the beginning and go through them all series by series. Her words are smart and sexy. Her protectors are oh so sexy, think James Bond meets Bruce Willis *swoon* and her plot is always fun and page turning. Brandon is book 1 in an all new series, All Guts No Glory and what a start is was. On the cusp of turning fifty (yes!! to the mature romances!!) Brand is retired Delta Force and sooooo bored. With such a demanding, dangerous job he never allowed himself to consider marriage and family and now he's lamenting the fact he's getting older without anyone by his side. Enter Julia, his missing mentors daughter ;) Julia and Brands romance is whirlwind and just when you think hmmmm, is this a short read and check the percentage left in the book, you're surprised and pleased it's not the end :) And the author takes you and the crew on another mission. I really enjoyed this read. It was short, I read it at work *shhh don't tell ;) and then for an hour or so in the evening. Actually, it was the perfect length (that's what she said) to feel like you accomplished something, lol!! I can't wait for Lex's book. He's gonna go down and go down hard!
I can already tell this new series by Charissa Gracyk is going to be so much fun!
Brand is a silver fox dreading turning fifty. He’s also a highly capable warrior, despite the fact he’s slinging beers now instead of weapons. But when Julia asks for his help, being just shy of a half century or not, he’s all in. It was great to have a “seasoned” couple who actually appreciated what they had and could offer one another, but still could ramp up the heat past boiling.
I also really enjoyed how Gracyk set up the rest of the series by allowing us to meet the characters and get little glimpses into their lives. Their friendship and banter were fun, and I laughed out loud at a few of their “old” jokes. The fact there’s humor mixed into the story provides the perfect foil to the action and actually serves to intensify it.
Brandon was an excellent start to what I know will be a series I’ll fall head over heels in love with! These silver foxes are going to cement the old adage: oldie but goodie!
