Raegan Fordemwalt—poet and author of the runaway hit Lover Girl—is back with the highly anticipated follow-up collection of poetry and art, Prince of Hearts.
Following the success of Lover Girl, Raegan Fordemwalt returns with Prince of Hearts. An indirect sequel to her bestselling debut, this all-new collection of art and poetry takes readers along the narrator’s journey through abandonment and dismantled trust following the loss of significant relationships, both platonic and romantic.
A far-too-relatable retelling of the courage required to survive young love, first heartbreaks, and your early-20s, Prince of Hearts is a look through both the rearview and the windshield along the journey to self-love.
The poems were ok. There were some that had great imagery, but the majority of poems felt repetitive and redundant to me. The constant draw backs to, “Lover Girl” just felt unnecessary and got really repetitive.
In my opinion the poetry fell flat for the most part because the poems lacked depth and read as, “life sucks unless I’m loved or in love.”
This collection wasn’t my cup of tea, but can be an enjoyable read for those that are newer to reading poetry, or for anyone dealing with heartbreak that wants a more lighter tone.
I loved this book so much it was very fast paced and a very easy read if you are looking for a book that won’t take long this book is for you. Prince of heart is about having trust issues in a relationship and I feel like if you are one that has trust issues like myself it will really help you understand your emotions way more.
The growth you see from her first piece to this is apparent, her writing style and change in perspective was interesting to witness, overall the book I feel was a part II that was improved upon the original
i took my time with this and just read random poems here and there until i read it all the way through and her writing is really good but a lot of poems felt like they could’ve been constructed better…
4.5. more banger poems!! this feels like a perfect evolution of lover girl. if that collection was about the fallout of a breakup, this one is about picking up the pieces afterwards. i will absolutely reread this one in sequence with lover girl a lot in the future
finished it way later than the start date because i got busy with school and sports but it is a really fast read, just wasn’t my favorite, not very relatable for me personally and just didn’t think the poems were that great - gonna re read it maybe i’ll like it better
I wanted to re-read this collection of love poetry for a few weeks now and I am absolutely glad I did that. Reagan’s choice of words is so insanely meaningful and wonderful. Reading this felt like a own little universe was drawn into my mind. The drawings are also worth mentioning, so fitting, beside the poems, but still not overwhelming or taking the focus from the poetry. I think that I most definetely will come back to this in the next months. I just love everything about this poetry collection and how I can always regain energy from reading this collection. My favorite poem from this collection is “i chose this” from page 43. I absolutely recommend this to love-poetry-lovers.
