I first heard about Nick Bare through my husband, who was introduced to him by his best friend.

To be honest, Nick Bare doesn’t make my list of top influencers. Last year, he hosted a “lottery” run that was supposed to be a random selection—but several of the winners just happened to be close friends and fellow influencers. That made the whole thing feel staged and disingenuous.

As for his book—he grew up with privilege, and in my opinion, there’s nothing particularly groundbreaking about his story. It’s definitely a motivational read, but most of the challenges he shares seem to end neatly with positive outcomes. It feels like he’s trying to portray a tough journey, but in reality, he’s always been smart, disciplined, and fortunate enough to bounce back without any major setbacks. Because there hasn’t been a real breakthrough moment in his life, a lot of the content tends to feel repetitive, he circles back to the same points often.

I personally didn’t feel very motivated by his stories or the struggles he described, but I am walking away with some inspiration and new ways of thinking about certain situations. So while it didn’t deeply resonate with me, it still offered some useful perspective and a reminder to “Go One More.”

“This life we live is a process. We will experience highs and lows, successes and failures, wins and losses. We have to endure it all because growth is on the other side. We have to maintain momentum.”

“Our ability to do anything starts with the courage to begin. We grow by approach ch bug harder challenges with larger goals and greater stakes. It’s the process in which we adapt and the momentum we experience that reveals the clarity we need to keep getting stronger and smarter. Go One more is about action.”

Not amazing, but not bad. There’s some good stuff in there, but if you listen to his podcast, or watch his YouTube, you’ve probably heard most of this book already. I enjoyed the book overall though

It was just fine. Some really powerful points and personal stories in the beginning but it felt like with every new piece of advice there wasn’t enough depth into any of the stories he presented. Also, if you watch any of his YouTube content you’ve probably heard the majority of points he presents. Kinda just felt like he was telling me how cool he was for 200+ pages.

Despite not the intended outcome of reading this book, the words here have clearly seeped deeper into my sense of self than any youtube or podcast has, as a result I have taken myself off social media and YouTube without really trying (something I have failed to do before).
As someone who has followed Nick for many years I expected the same old same old, but even though it was, it was also so much more impactful. again this book is about his story, and the philosophy behind go one more, reflecting on your priorities and sticking to your goals, never thinking too small, yet I got a lot more overall reflection out of this than just fitness goals - it will make you want to run a marathon by the end let me warn you.

this book will definitely not be for everyone, but ive not really felt this level of control over my life since reading deep work 2 years ago (i deleted social media for 6 months after that book, so here we go)

my personal favourite messages were: consistent good over occasionally great and the easy wrongs over the hard rights.

I thought that the book was motivational. At the end, I wanted to sign up for marathon. But some parts felt a bit repetitive and some stuff I couldn’t relate to. Overall, I recommend for anything thinking of doing some challenging sport.

This is the first book I’ve ever pre-ordered and it ended up taking me 6 months to get through! I am a Nick Bare and BPN fan. I’m also a self help/motivational book fan but this just didn’t do it for me. I’ve listened to his podcasts and watched enough YouTube videos for this to just be a lot of regurgitation which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it just was boring for me to get. Don’t get me wrong, there’s a lot of useful stuff in this book but it just sat on my nightstand for half a year

I thought it was a great book and has tons of inspiration. I’ve been following Nick for a while, so I knew a lot of the information reading the book based on listening to his podcast. But it helped me wrap up a lot of loose ends. Definitely a good lesson if you need motivation, especially in the fitness world and entrepreneurship.

In Go One More, Nick Bare explored how to move forward and to turn your aspirations into reality. He begins the book by stating how he asked himself the important question, “why keep going.” He was training for his first marathon in 2018 and it was for a total of 18 miles. He was dealing with the voices in his head telling him that he isn’t a runner anymore. He used to run in the military but no longer was. His body was screaming for him to quit and that his body was tired. He shared how some of our life’s greatest reward is on the other side of going through resistance. He chose to instead run one more. Then simple saying turned into a saying, “go one more.” He got a tattoo posted about his journey on social media and then other people even got tattoos and hats with the sayings on it. It became a mantra and we must choose to not quit and to keep going one more. He also has a YouTube channel that he started in 2014 and has over 1 million subscribers and counting. He has since gone one to run two ultramarathons and a Last Man Standing and he keeps going. He started a business called, Bare Performance Nutrition. His first year he told his dad he was going to make one million. He ended up making around $20,000. It took him 5 years to reach his goal. In the book, he explored different principles and how to transform your mindset to keep going forward.

In the book, he discussed the topic that people will call you crazy. He used the example of country superstar, Hardy. He began as a songwriter for years before he was able to release his own album in 2023. This album grew in sales and helped to make a name for himself. When he won an award at the ACM awards for songwriter of the year, in his acceptance speech he shared how he played a show 7 years earlier, he received in a tip jar the word quit on a napkin. Someone in that show didn’t like his performance and encouraged him to just quit. Obviously, if he would have done that Hardy music wouldn’t have ever happened. Hixtape, which he does with all sorts of artists and collaborations wouldn’t have happened. The Joe Diffie tribute album probably wouldn’t have ever been seen the light of day. His Hixtape ideas in general is brilliant. He then went on to release a rock album, The Mockingbird & the Crow and he went against what the label wanted and pursue a new way of music. Nick instructed people to allow people to call you crazy and to doubt you. Let the root against you. Just keep chasing your own goals and journey.

I would recommend this life changing book to anyone who is ready to go after their dreams and to make the correct choices that matter. I have enjoyed following him on social media and his posts are inspirations. He does a wide range of videos and posts. I really enjoyed the mantra of going one more and the story behind this is truly inspiring. The principles and topics are extremely helpful and beneficial. One of my favorites was if it matters to you, you will make time. This section is so true and can help you to focus on your health and not making excuses. The only thing the book didn’t discuss was the setback and challenge of how he recently got hit by a car while running but this book was probably written before that event happen. He is okay from the accident which I’m sure he will discuss in detail in another book. Readers will be inspired to change after reading this book!

Underwhelming, repetitive, and not the self‑help book I expected.

I picked this book up on a whim after seeing a vague recommendation online, and unfortunately it ended up being a disappointment. I enjoy self‑help books and went in with an open mind, even though I had never heard of Nick Bare before. What I found, though, was less a self‑help book and more an underwhelming memoir from someone I simply couldn’t relate to—and in some ways, was actively put off by.

Bare’s priorities throughout the book were hard to stomach. His entrepreneurship and extreme fixation on running and physical fitness consistently overshadow everything else in his life, including his family. He repeatedly mentions his wife expressing concerns about how little attention he gives them, only to gloss over it and pivot back to his training, his business, or whichever social‑media personality he’s currently inspired by. He talks far more about influencers he follows than about his own family, except when fatherhood affects his ability to run or build his brand. For someone who claims to care about “legacy,” it’s striking how absent his family seems from that vision.

As a reader who isn’t already invested in Bare as a fitness YouTuber or podcaster, the book felt like a chore to finish. It’s extremely repetitive—almost as if he ran out of material and kept recycling the same stories—and overwhelmingly centered on running to the point of obsession. If you’re not already a fan of his content or deeply into endurance culture, there’s very little here to connect with.

I also found some of the advice not just unhelpful, but concerning. He casually promotes cutting two hours of sleep every day to fit in training, which is terrible guidance for both physical and mental health. His comments about staying “loose” in a car crash were equally troubling; there’s a reason people are told to brace for impact, and presenting this kind of off‑the‑cuff medical advice as wisdom is irresponsible.

I went in expecting a genuine self‑help book, not a fitness/supplement influencer celebrating his own grindset.

This was actually a really good book. I'm sure my appreciation and admiration for Nick Bare influenced this slightly, but he had a couple very important nuggets in here for me.

Nick is an incredible athlete, but he weaves so much more into this book than just his various physical and business feats. Something that really hit me was his concept of endurance not just being physical. As a life-long runner and ultramarathoner myself, endurance is something I've thought a lot about from a physical perspective, but for some reason have never really contemplated it from other areas of life. A couple quotes that really got me thinking:

"I realized that old man was wise, that he was trying to tell us something much more than what we first took at face value. What he was telling us was applicable to a lot more things than just a race. It wasn't just about finishing the Leadville Trail 100. Endurance is applicable to all parts of life. Your professional career. Building a family. Having kids. Marriage. Being in a relationship. Building a business. Endurance is patience. It's consistency. It's the work over a long period of time. It's wisdom."

"Anyone can go out fast and hard, but it’s the wise who endure the process and pace themselves appropriately. We must be willing to endure the process of life, and if we respect the process, we will be rewarded with the wisdom to achieve our greater potential."

This hit me at the right time in my life, and it's gotten me thinking a lot about endurance outside of just physical challenges. For those of us who love physical challenges, the reality and truth is that they become a source of pleasure and enjoyment for us. Sure they are hard, but are they? Suffering at mile 20 on a trail run is a very different pain from having my kids scream and lose it before bed after a long day of work. That's endurance too, and I needed to hear this wisdom.

Nick Bare’s mantra “Go One More” is more than a fitness philosophy—it’s a mindset that directly applies to work and life. In training, it means pushing for that extra rep, that last painful sprint, even when the body is screaming to stop. But the real power lies in carrying the same principle outside the gym.

At work, going one more can mean taking on a tough project others avoid, spending a few extra minutes refining a presentation, or making that additional client call. These small, consistent acts compound into professional growth and set you apart in competitive environments. It’s not about massive leaps, but the discipline to push past comfort zones—again and again.

In life, the same mindset builds resilience. Whether it’s showing more patience in relationships, committing to personal goals, or choosing persistence when things get hard, going one more teaches us to embrace discomfort and use it as fuel. Over time, this shapes character, grit, and a deep sense of self-confidence.

The lesson is simple yet powerful: the difference between average and exceptional often lies in the willingness to do just one more—one more effort, one more try, one more step. And while “one more” may seem small in the moment, it’s the accumulation of these extra efforts that leads to extraordinary results.

Won a finished hardback copy of this title in a Goodreads giveaway. Another book that I had mixed feelings about. On the one hand, I admire the resilience of the author and appreciate how he’s trying to motivate people to stick with things, especially when life gets tough and it feels impossible to continue. On the other hand, there’s a distinct lack of acknowledgement and discussion of the very real oppressive structures that can make persistence not merely unhealthy, but at times dangerous. Though it’s helpful to focus on the good, I wish Nick would have placed more emphasis on the realities of failure—including wading through depression, instability, etc.—and examining how detrimental it is instead of moving on to how successful he became and how good can come from bad.

Brick by brick, go one more, prove yourself right. I love this message & it is one that deeply resonates with me. Go One More, whether it’s one more step, rep, page, minute, etc. I’ve been encouraged to push past the point of failure. Whenever I feel like quitting, I remember this mantra. This novel is comprised of all the influences on Nick Bare’s life, from Atomic Habits to Matthew McConaughey’s Greenlights. He explains the impact that specific people and media have had on him & how they all contributed to his journey of starting his company, Bare Performance Nutrition. An inspiring novel, filled with life lessons, learning moments, & though provoking quotes. I will recommend this book to anyone who feels lost in life.

2.5 Stars - If this was the first motivational fitness/lifestyle book I'd ever read, I would have probably rated it much higher...

I'm going to preface this by saying I like and highly respect Nick Bare and his accomplishments. As an individual, he should be considered a role model for this space. That being said, this book just felt like a worse version of the same mantras that get shared in every one of these books. It didn't feel original, and the background stories shared didn't feel real.

I didn't enjoy the book. I didn't feel like I got anything new from it. But I respect Nick for making the effort to create it and share it with others. Hopefully others get something more out of this than I did.

Great book! As a fan of Nick Bare, I listen to his podcasts almost weekly. A lot of the book's content is redundant on the podcasts, but it is his story and how he became the athlete and businessman that he is today. I've read a lot of motivational self-help type books and this is one of my favorites. It had a lot of good quotes and stories from other podcasters and people I've enjoyed listening to (Bedros Keuilian, Jacko Willink, Hardy, Jeff Cunningham, etc..).

Consistently good always beats occasionally great.

"The 'Go One More' mindset is not about being the best; it’s about being better than you were yesterday, every single day."

"It’s easy to be great when things are going well. The true test is who you are when everything is falling apart."

Go One More isn’t just a book ,it’s a mindset built on clarity, grit, and consistent action. Nick Bare presents a compelling call to take ownership of your life through focused decisions, intentional routines, and relentless perseverance.

Blending personal experience with insights from mentors and thought leaders, this book challenges readers to lean into discomfort, embrace discipline, and transform every area of life, from health and relationships to purpose and leadership.

It’s not about motivation; it’s about movement. And Go One More delivers the kind of mental shift that stays with you long after the final page.

I was considering buying BPN’s iconic Go One More hat and I figured that I should read the book first to understand the meaning (of course the hat sold out before I could finish reading haha). I was pleasantly surprised!

I expected this to be a hype motivational book to read before a workout or a long run and in some ways it is. But Bare’s thesis is more about living life intentionally and courageously. Hard work is less about the work itself and more about the character we create while we do the hard work. My next marathon will be fueled literally by BPN gels and inspirationally by the Go One More mantra.

I’m gonna be honest, this was a great book when I was starting marathon training. I loved watching this guy’s content as motivation to do the hard work. But as time went on and even during my own training, I kinda just saw him as an other dude just telling his life story. I thought this was going to be more motivational than it actually was. It was really a lot of Nick telling his story about the past 8 years when he got back into running and building his business, and tbh a LOT of this book was repetitive. If I had to hear one more time about how a business deal fell through and it was the best thing in disguise I was gonna throw the book
