I REAAAAALLY do NOT like the stalker vampire story arc. Stalkers are NOT in ANY WAY funny.

2, I was expecting better, stars.

"Getting lost among my favorite things is fun, of course. But I didn't realize it would feel so good to help someone."

The earlier part of this volume didn't hit QUITE the same as volume one and can't exactly pinpoint why? I've seen a few reviewers mention that it wasn't as funny and darker, and I think that might be it? Still a wonderful volume and will EAGERLY look forward to the next volumes! I would just say my enjoyment level wasn't quite as high when reading volume one is all.

There was definitely lots of exciting development though, and the one that had me squealing the most is Kyuta's development! HIS BLUSHY FACE!! And his niceness!! And him not being able to focus!! YESSSSS!! I loved loved loved it all and I'm SO excited to see him continue to fall for Hina!

On the flip side, I LOVED how Hoshino helped Hina realize her feelings for Kyuta are NOT Mao! I found her development in this volume specifically very very good as she is starting to realize that she is feeling differently about Kyuta than just a fangirl. I deeply enjoyed seeing her slowly change, but yet still compare Mao to Kyuta when she hopes Kyuta will say the same thing! That feels SO relatable! Also, Kyuta opening her coffin only to see an overwhelming amount of Mao merch made me laugh! I love her so much!

Viktor is an interesting character and unsure of what my feelings are toward him just yet? This new character that made an appearance though, I. DO. NOT. LIKE. HIM! UGHHHHHHH!! Was 100% with Hina that he is a disgrace to the otaku community!!! I'm not not looking forward to seeing more of him that's for sure!

Overall, definitely a super enjoyable volume that has me eager to see what happens next!!

The biggest problem with this series is that it doesn’t seem to have a firm grasp on precisely what it wants to be. Plot points roll in and out like the tides and to various degrees of success.

The first section of the book, where Hina’s servant Viktor shows up to attend to her, is amusing enough, but isn’t consistently so. Viktor sees Hina as an idealized perfect angel, which doesn’t quite square with how Amanatsu sees her.

Viktor being annoying and stuffy doesn’t do much for me, although the manga figures out more to do with him once he and Amanatsu are rooming together. The wardrobe theft is one of the biggest laughs I had this volume. It just chews up a lot of page time getting there.

The second half of the book is actually pretty wild and almost makes up for how middling the first half is. When all the females in the Camping Club have fled to the Glamping Club, the former’s plans for the school festival are in dire straits until Hina shows up.

Yes, it’s an excuse for maid costumes, but it’s a really funny one. And it lets Amanatsu lay into Hina’s hobby while also realizing that he’s being a bit of a chump. Their relationship is constantly evolving in fun ways.

Toss in some ridiculous delinquents right out of central casting and a new vampire who’s a total loser, and incredibly fickle, and you get a second half that works really well. Poor Hina would like for nothing more than Amanatsu to save her; too bad she’s too powerful to actually get kidnapped.

There’s definitely some seat-of-its-pants energy to the writing, but it comes together surprisingly well in the back half. The first part isn’t terrible, but we’ve seen characters like Viktor a dozen times before and there’s not much to him.

3.5 stars - precautionary rounding down, with the hope that the next volume maintains a strong level of zany the whole way through. It looks great, but it needs to get a bit more consistent.

Not as cute as the first volume, I’ll give it one more volume to decide whether I’ll continue or drop it.

This wasn’t quite as funny as the first volume, as it didn’t have enough Hina obsessing over her fave, but it was good. Hina’s new bodyguard, Viktor, is causing her trouble because he doesn’t understand her life in Japan and doesn’t approve of her friends. She drives him away, but he ends up as roommates with Amanatsu, her friend who looks like her favourite character in Vampire Cross.

She’s happy to have a friend like Amanatsu and can’t help hoping he’d be like her fave. She even volunteers to help at a student festival when he needs help. But that brings her to an attention of a powerful vampire. But how can he be so powerful when he isn’t related to Hina’s father?

This was a tad darker than the first volume. The ending wasn’t a cliffhanger this time, but I’m eager to read more.

This continues to be so cute and interesting, and for what. How dare.

When my partner originally picked up the first volume and later recommended I read it, I had had my reservations, but both volume 1 and this one continue to be light-hearted and adorable, with those darker hints throughout. Here it seems like we actually have some sort of plotline starting to unfold, and I'm curious to see where it actually ends up going, and the way it's going to impact Hina especially.

Super cute volume with the college school festival. I enjoyed the extra chaos that her bodyguard Viktor has introduced to the cast. Curious to see how the other new creepy vampire plays into the plot going forward.

Not as good as volume 1 but still okay!

RECAP: Viktor moves into Amanatsu’s place. Shenanigans. School festival, weird guy who is the same rank at Hina, ending with him threatening her.

the friction between hina (who is serving LEWKS in volume two — she wears the cutest dark angel costume) and her begrudging love interest/doppelgänger of her anime fave amanatsu is what made volume one so candy cane sweet to me. but aside from having a small narrative thread emphasizing amanatsu’s instinct to protect hina and hina’s need to be protected — even though she can, thrillingly, completely drain amanatsu of his blood — vol two avoids relationship development!

disappointing, since hina & amanatsu’s relationship is so funny, as is the series’ concept of a housebound, vegetarian vampire who only begins to understand herself after getting addicted to a vampire diaries equivalent. volume two also doesn’t expand on these details much, and we dont get any other meaningful information about who hina is underneath the fangs

still, vol two has enough hijinks to be too freaking cute for me to give it any less than four stars ☝🏼 it’s not serious literature, it’s a paperback brain vacation, sue me ☝🏼

Best volume 2 I've read in awhile! I'm so excited to continue reading this series. I absolutely love it!! Volume 2 was just as good as volume one! Hina is SO cute and I love seeing her relationship with Amanatsu and Hoshino grow 🩵

We got a peek at our first villain/antagonist of the series too! I won't say more than that tho.

The comedy in is great, as usual, and the series has the same quality as Kami-sama Kiss! I feel it's uncommon to see that level of expert storytelling these days, particularly in the fantasy shojo department.

Can't wait for volume 3!!!

Oh no… this volume was not good.

I went into Otaku Vampire’s Love Bite Vol. 2 hoping for a fun, quirky continuation, but instead, I found myself increasingly frustrated and disappointed. The humor — supposedly the heart of this series — completely fell flat. The only moment I genuinely laughed was at the unexpected reason why Hina hasn’t seen her family’s old “aide” (let’s call him a butler) for so long. Beyond that? Nothing worked.

The butler’s obsessive fixation on seeing Hina not as a real person but as some shallow 2D “angel” figure wasn’t funny — it was tedious. And Hina herself? Her personality swings around wildly: strong, then weak, then a determined vampire, then a helpless maiden in distress calling her daddy, then strong again… can we please settle on who she is?

As for Amanatsu, maybe the only character who stayed consistent — but unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to save the volume.

And don’t get me started on the stalker arc. Seriously, this is supposed to be entertaining? A maid café-obsessed character who literally tells Hina, “I’ve awakened to a new fetish”? I was left cringing more than laughing.

I’m especially disappointed because I love Kamisama Kiss — so I know the author can create charming, funny, and emotionally engaging stories. But here, the plot feels poorly thought through, the humor is underwhelming, and worst of all, the story seems to have evaporated. Volume 1 felt like the start of something, but Volume 2 feels like nothing — as if we’re just waiting and hoping something meaningful will finally show up in Volume 3.

Here’s hoping it finds its footing, because right now, I’m not convinced.

Reader's Notes:
- this is the second of a series & must be read in order
- this is told mainly from Hina & Kyuta's points of view
- Hina is very innocent when it comes to things outside her sphere of knowledge due to being a shut in vampire prior to discovering her favorite anime and wanting to go into the current world on her own
- there is some blood
- one scene (which is shown about 3 times) has a vampire eating blood from what looks like a naked woman (basic outline of body shape with no little details to the body)
-a character is shown in a few frames either naked or in unseen underwear (head hair covers any private areas)
- there is a creepy character introduced in this book who is highly interested in Hina and appears to be quite a bit delusional
-there is one use of a not nice word

Review:
I removed stars due to the naked body and how off putting the new character was. I’ll try the next book, but I’m not sure how this new character will affect my choice to continue.

Now I understand what’s drawing Kyuta to Hina! And Hina’s butler/bodyguard is interesting. I’m not sure if I like him or not, but he’s definitely helping the reader to understand more about vampires. I love that Hina’s group of people who care for her is expanding!

3 stars.

I don’t like the direction this volume decided to go to, or is that just a manga thing?

Volume 2 follows the events right after Vol. 1. Hina’s father decided to send in a bodyguard, Viktor, after the crazy things that happened in the first volume. Here, Hina explores the fangirl world with her friend Kyuta and she starts getting friends and even a following!

Now here comes the rant: I didn’t like the feeling like we’re going to the obsessive reverse harem route. It kinda got predictable at this point. Like, of course, the bodyguard is mad obsessed with her, and of course, the next new love interest is going to be obsessive and stalkery. I have no qualms with stalkers in fiction, or in romance for that matter, but I went to read a shoujo to get off a slump, not get into another one.

Still, the book is enjoyable. It was something that I still found funny and charming, I just hope that the next book is as fun as the first one.

🩷Manga Review: Otaku Vampire’s Love Bite Vol. 2 by Juliette Suzuki🌸

🩷This volume really expands on how Hina sees the world and how she can truly live in it instead of being an observer of it. This changes the way Kyuta sees her, instead of seeing her through the lens of his own poor experiences with a vampire. 🌸

🩷This volume was wholesome and silly, and it introduced new, fun characters who will challenge Hina and Kyuta’s views on the world and each other. As always, Juliette Suzuki knows how to create wholesome characters with vibrant stories and experiences. I’m excited to meet everyone!🌸

🩷This volume starts to build the story behind the characters, raising questions about the dynamics of the world, the characters, and, of course, vampires. This is one of my favorite series this year. I’m so excited for more. 🌸

Hina’s father send Viktor to check up on her and this goes predictably bad because Viktor doesn’t fully understand the modern world, let alone the otaku lifestyle.

So be prepared for shenanigans, especially after he gets a whiff of Amanatsu. Meanwhile, Hoshino is trying to get up the nerve to tell Amanatsu that he’s a vampire… and admire his feelings.

But first, school festival drama and a closer look into the hierarchy of vampires. Though I’m a little confused, because I can’t tell if Hina really commanded this one guy or not. I know she doesn’t like to force people, so maybe she held back without meaning to???

also crane games and maid cafes are both things I want to do so bad like I have a problem ,not in a creepy way for the cafe I just like cutesy stuff and want the weird food spell stuff bc im freak who loves maid cafe and dresses up like a maid in his freetime (that is a reference not the truth)

I finally found another volume of this series at the library! I'm bad at finding things so it's entirely possible that I just kept missing it. 😂
This volume was definitely not as funny as the first but I still enjoyed it.

The characters were amazing once again, minus Viktor and the other vampire who kissed the main female character without her consent. I love seeing her discover more of Japan and her otaku hobby. I was soooo sad that Viktor took away all of her merch! 😭 I also liked seeing her at the fallen angel cafe. Definitely missed the interactions between her and the male main character tho.

The plot was enough to be entertaining though it's not the most innovative I have read. It served its purpose for this volume and I am excited to continue the series.

another super fun volume. seeing the plot advance while incorporating otaku activities is really fun. knowing Julietta the romance will probably be a slow burn and take some time to develop but seeing glimpses of it already makes me super excited eheh. very curious to learn more about this peculiar new character

only got one bone to pick with the translation of one bubble which didn't match the original wording and made me think it was a very confusing and weird choice of translation but otherwise, standard shojo beat quality. wish there were color pages :/

I did not like the new character introduced in Viktor. He is this older vampire that is employed to protect Hina, but he is a creep. He is like in love with her and treats her like she is a baby. Which really ruined a lot of my feelings about this series. But the ending did really intrigue me to read the next volume.

Didn’t love the misogynist stalker angle, especially because it feels like the only way it could possibly be resolved is for Amanatsu to realize he likes her and stand up for her rather than by Hina saving herself. (Because the point of the overpowered stalker is that his existence de-powers her.) Disappointing.

Just as cute as the first volume, and with an expanded cast! I don't like Fujimiya but I'm curious about why Hina is unable to control him and I look forward to learning more about that.

Side note, the amount of vampires popping up in Japan across only two volumes so far is astounding.
