When Scarlet finds herself doomed to eternal punishment in Hell for a sinful life she can’t even remember, Satan himself offers her a deal: return to earth and kill one marked sinner per day…as his grim reaper!
While foiling an attempted robbery, Scarlet is forced to reveal her role as a grim reaper in order to save Chase’s life. In return, Chase shares some of the past events that earned him his sinner’s mark, and together they embark on a new kind of partnership—instead of killing sinners at random, they will use Chase’s experience as a detective to bring only the worst sinners to justice. But even seemingly moral choices have their cost, and Satan isn’t the type to share his reapers with anyone else…
This volume collects episodes 27–42 of the popular WEBTOON I'm the Grim Reaper, along with exclusive, never-before-seen content!
Now that Scarlet and Chase are working together to collect sinners, a whole new set of problems pop up; namely, Scarlet barely has control over her Reaper powers, and Satan is dangerously interested in Chase when each of the new souls see him before dying. It's kinda dramatic at times, but I'm very interested in how things will turn out, especially with the cliffhanger this volume leaves on.
I feel like I've forgotten some tags, just because a lot of similar-ish titles end up using twice as many.
I liked this series, then donated the books, then liked it enough to reacquire the books, but I'm only just now reading this volume, and it took some weird turns? Or maybe Satan is just too irritating for me? I mean, overall the story is still great (for it being urban fantasy sort of stuff where an amnesiac is given the task of killing one sinner per day just because Satan is bored), but I feel like I didn't like it as much outside of the couple of key moments, particularly .
I guess also when Liam shows up, and due to the nature of the crime Chase and Scarlet are investigating. In a way, that's funny, but also sort of unnecessary drama... which means it's ABSOLUTELY necessary drama.
Definitely still like it and will keep reading. Kind of a big ask, though, for complete newcomers who haven't even read the Webtoon.
Rating: 4 stars 240 pages Episodes 27–42, along with exclusive, never-before-seen content! (Re-read)
I originally read these episodes as they were published on WEBTOONS. These episodes showcase a dilemma caused by Chase's "good intentions" as he tries to decide which of all of the sinners should be sent to Hell first. Scarlet is forced to send at least one sinner per day to Hell or be tortured in Hell herself.
SUMMARY: While foiling an attempted robbery, Scarlet is forced to reveal her role as a grim reaper in order to save Chase’s life. In return, Chase shares some of the past events that earned him his sinner’s mark, and together they embark on a new kind of partnership—instead of killing sinners at random, they will use Chase’s experience as a detective to bring only the worst sinners to justice. But even seemingly moral choices have their cost, and Satan isn’t the type to share his reapers with anyone else.
Scarlet is dead, no recollection of her past life or even her real name, condemned to the lowest circle of hell, but Satan offers her a way out - act as a Grim Reaper for him, dispatching one sinner a day to hell. Seeing no alternative, Scarlet agrees and is sent back to earth.
This time Scarlet saves Chase from a bullet, but ends up exposing her secret when she doesn't die. Scarlet and Chase form a partnership to only harvest souls that deserve it, based on Chase's information from when he was a police detective. But how long will Satan allow this partnership to continue? And will Scarlet survive another confrontation with the other Grim Reaper, rabbit-masked Brook?
So... Chase finds out that Scarlet can't die (at least not by normal means), so she tells him everything (that she remembers anyway) and he tells her his (tragic?) backstory. Then the two form a mutually beneficial partnership using his detective knowledge and her ability to deliver immediate judgement on sinners.
But this series has me very conflicted, because Satan is evil and I shouldn't like him... but he's so damn charismatic even when he's being an asshole. And also he's the only one who know exactly why he picked Scarlet to be a reaper. Is this just a sadistic game to torment her? Does this have to do with her mysterious sin? What about her inner demon? I WANNA KNOW!
This book was good! I thought it was an improvement from the last book with Chase discovering Scarlets secret being a dark and funny moment as Chase is freaking out while Scarlet just wants the blood off her face. I think this book works for people who are looking for a good story with dark but funny moments filled with semi serious interactions in a depressing world while a sarcastic devil watches the entire story with joy!
Really good. I feel like we just really have more questions at this time but I am so intrigued. Its great story telling as I'm interested but not bored by the questions. I can't wait to learn answers but I'm loving this ride. It is so good.
I’ve got even more questions. What is the devil’s problem? I don’t want him to force Scarlet to kill Chase. Brook is such an intriguing character to me, and I want to know more about him. Did Scarlet kill Brook??? ALSO, THE ENDING??? PLEASE TELL ME THAT CHASE DIDN’T DIE AFTER ALL OF THAT. THE WHOLE LIKE SPEECH THAT HE GAVE SCARLET KILLED ME, AND THE WAY HE SMILED AT HER WHEN SHE CAME BACK INTO HERSELF???
