Decidedly for fans of the Gilmore Girls. This cookbook is "written" by Sookie St. James and chock full of references to the show. Other characters also make brief appearances through notes and comments. As a niche book, the tone, style and design are really well done and perfectly capture the playful spirit and essence of the show.

As a stand-alone cookbook, readers unfamiliar with the program it is based on will likely be a bit perplexed by the headnotes and show references sprinkled throughout. Recipes are well-written and there are colour pictures of many but not all. The collection is eclectic and representative of fare you might find in New England, like at an upscale inn or local diner.

The Gilmore Cinematic Universe has really popped off in the last few years and pretty much everything from the show has been commodified at this point (much to my chagrin) but dang if I wasn't charmed by this Sookie-infused cookbook -- even if I won't make much from it beyond the walnut apple muffins and taquito blinis.

As an insane gilmore girls fan this book was eagerly anticipated! It did not disappoint!

The amount of thought that has gone into this book is so apparent, from the burn marks on the cover (as sookie is clumsy) to the little quotes and post it's throughout.

If you need any specific equipment for the recipe its clear at the top of the page what you'll need, if the recipe is vegan, vegetarian or gluten free its clearly marked.

There's even a table on the backpage to convert the measurements from american to british and there are several pages that have a meal plan like the bracebridge dinner or a romantic evening.

It does however upon first glance seem as though sookies magic risotto is not in it however it is but its not labelled up as such its under braised lamb and risotto. This is indeed the magic risotto but theres not an actual reference to it like with the other recipes this is where the one star has been lost.

Overall a really beautiful book, perfect for any gilmore girls fan.

There are so many amazing recipes and references to the show in here. We have not cooked anything yet (just got it today), but we read through it all and picked out 5 to make this week. My husband is a huge fan of the show, and it has such a diverse range of recipes for us to make together. They all seem simple and the ingredients are easy to find at our local store. This differs from many recipe books where special ingredients are required and hard to obtain. I will update this again once we finish making those recipes this week.

update: We have made the bread and one of the drinks (but as mocktails) and they were so good! The bread was surprisingly easier than we thought, even though it took a long time.

Not a deep book but a fun book. I enjoyed revisiting Stars Hollow. The cookbook was written as though it was Sookie's own recipe book, with a few "Post-Its" from Lorelai stuck inside. Each recipe intro reminded the reader of the provenance of the recipe. Every recipe had a photo, which I love. No screenshots from the TV show, though, if you were looking for that. I'm going to try the Double-Chocolate Chip Muffin Tops with the boys. (Taking off the tops is optional.)
