I only found out this was the last MINDY KIM book by reading the author's note at the end of the book! 😢
I'm so sad to see this series end. I loved reading about Mindy's adventures and how much she grew as a character. She was such a kind friend and navigated her changing family in such a great way. I think kids who will read this series in the future will truly be in for a treat. I'm clearly not the age that this series is marketed to, but I like to think we should all read about Mindy's life and grow as humans. Lyla Lee tackled some great topics in her series that I think little ones will truly relate to, or learn from.
THE FUN FAMILY VACATION follows Mindy and her family as they explore more of Korea and we see how a family really changes when a baby is added into the mix. I felt for Mindy, but I think this book will be great for any littles who are in similar situations with new siblings--especially how the stress can affect the family dynamic.
Again, I'm sad to see this special series go, but I'm grateful for Lyla Lee! Thank you and I hope Mindy continues to grow and learn and be the kind little girl she was throughout the series.

Without reading the blurb, I was shocked to read that this book took place in Jeju Island! After watching two Kdramas “When Life Gives you Tangerines” and “Welcome to Samdalri” back to back on Netflix, I have fallen in love with the beauty of Jeju Island! The nature and the close village community of Jeju Island makes it even more appealing to go for vacation. And that’s where Mindy went! Although the trip had its ups and downs, Mindy, her parents, and Charlie still made it a memorable trip!
Reading about how difficult it is to go anywhere let alone travel with a young child as young as Charlie makes this book even more worthy to read. Readers can see how complicated it is just to even step foot outside with a toddler, from a random blowout to sometimes missing out on some things to care for a young child. I love how realistic the author kept this experience because it is true! But I love how the author can teach young readers to be like Mindy; at first, you can be frustrated because things don’t turn out the way you wanted, but in the end you have to be understanding because her parents are trying their best and that it is part of life that things may not happen the way you wanted it to!
Overall, another well-written book for the series! I can’t wait to read more of where Mindy and her family travels to next!

Mindy and her family fly to Jeju Island after visiting with the her grandmother. She is so excited to see Hallasan, but when you’re traveling with a small baby, anything can happen. Great ending to the series, sad to see it finish.
