Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle was a Scottish writer and physician. He created the character Sherlock Holmes in 1887 for A Study in Scarlet, the first of four novels and fifty-six short stories about Holmes and Dr. Watson. The Sherlock Holmes stories are milestones in the field of crime fiction.

Doyle was a prolific writer. In addition to the Holmes stories, his works include fantasy and science fiction stories about Professor Challenger, and humorous stories about the Napoleonic soldier Brigadier Gerard, as well as plays, romances, poetry, non-fiction, and historical novels. One of Doyle's early short stories, "J. Habakuk Jephson's Statement" (1884), helped to popularise the mystery of the brigantine Mary Celeste, found drifting at sea with no crew member aboard.

Really enjoyed the stories. This was my “car book” which was with me whenever I had to be in a waiting room or other place. Short stories are a great way to spend my time!

4.5 stars. I thoroughly enjoyed reading these 12 short stories! I'm not particularly fond of reading short story collections but these were so fun. Each adventure was different and so easy to get sucked into and follow along to. All the stories were around 20ish pages each, so very easy to pick up and read one in a short sitting. I took my time and would read no more than 2 stories a day and never back-to-back. I wanted to savor and really think about each story after I read it. This is my first time reading Sherlock Holmes. I'm so glad I gave it a chance and cannot wait to read some of the novels now and continue with more short stories.
