Fixer Upper meets Gone Girl in this suspenseful and witty domestic thriller set in the world of home renovation TV—featuring a woman who becomes public enemy #1 after a horrifying discovery prompts her to flee her celebrity husband with their twin babies.
Dawn Decker is an American everywoman and the salt to her husband Wyatt’s sweet, media-friendly charm on their Tennessee-based home renovation reality TV show, The Perfect Home. While Dawn bristles at the trappings of their D-list celebrity status, Wyatt hungers for greater fame. The couple also faces infertility issues stemming from Wyatt’s low sperm count. He secretly orders experimental fertility drugs, and they conceive, but his personality takes a dark turn—he becomes moody, withdrawn, and even cruel.
When Dawn discovers his horrifying plot to manufacture a tragedy in order to skyrocket their celebrity status, she takes their infant twins and goes on the run. Wyatt appears on national television to turn the public against her, painting Dawnas an unstable kidnapper suffering from postpartum psychosis. His charm is so compelling that even Dawn’s closest friends doubt her. She will have to dig deep into the past—both hers and Wyatt’s—to find allies, protect her children, and beat this beloved all-American celebrity at his own game.
Told in dual perspectives from both husband and wife, this smart, captivating, and twisty thriller is a fun, addictive read from the very first page.

This book is being promoted as “Fixer Upper meets Gone Girl” and I found it nothing like either one of those titles; there was no fixing up and there wasn’t a girl that was gone. I have no idea whose idea that was but it wasn’t a good one. This book was okay as far as popcorn thrillers go but I don’t think it was supposed to be a popcorn thriller. It was like the book had a split personality. At times it was an action-packed he said/she said and it was over the top and then at other times, it was trying too hard to be serious…And it got really repetitive. I don’t watch home improvement shows so I wasn’t disappointed that there wasn’t much of that in the story, I just wanted something with a little more UMPH! I do give props to the author for the unique premise, his execution fell flat though.
Over and over again we are reminded of his handsomeness and her not being a beauty. The characters were more like caricatures and the males’ behaviour was just too far out there for my taste. I didn’t like how the female was treated like a second-class citizen and she let them all do it. They both irritated the hell out of me. The female’s so-called friends are anything but, and there wasn’t one character that had any redeeming qualities whatsoever. The only character I did like was the mom and even she hurts her daughter with her lies in the end. I did like how the author showed how reality TV and the media can twist a person’s perception of another human being, but other than that this book is a no-go for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the Advance Readers Copy.
Wyatt Decker is a media friendly charmer with looks to match. But despite that, his home renovation TV show-“The Perfect Home” doesn’t really take off until he marries Dawn. Her eye rolling, snark is just what the show needed to attract female viewers.
Together, they have reached D level celebrity status but Wyatt longs for greater fame. Children might help but Wyatt has a low sperm count so he orders experimental fertility drugs from Germany which did not earn FDA approval in the U.S..
YES-he will risk ANYTHING to have children including taking this controversial drug, which warns of some serious side effects,
But, having twins is still not enough to get the coveted interview that he feels will propel them to the NEXT level.
So, he devises a horrifying new plan to earn fame and fortune- one that, once discovered by Dawn, prompts her to flee with her two babies.
She is quickly reminded that Wyatt is the beloved star of their show, as he turns HER into public enemy #1.
It will be difficult to beat Wyatt at his own game but Dawn Decker will do ANYTHING for her twins.
The book synopsis shares too much so I will stop here and just say “PROPS” to the author for the ORIGINAL PREMISE set in the ALWAYS choreographed world of home renovation TV!
The story is told from the dual perspectives of both Dawn and Wyatt, and made for an entertaining, domestic popcorn 🍿 thriller, which definitely offered up more than one surprise (if you don’t read the synopsis!!)
If the opening pace had been quicker, and if I had felt a bit more TENSION towards the end-it might have rated a solid four stars, but it did keep me engaged, so 3.5 stars ⭐️ it is.
A buddy read with DeAnn-be sure to watch for her review for additional thoughts!
This promising debut is now available!
Thank You to Scribner for the gifted ARC provided through NetGalley. As always, these are my candid thoughts!
The Perfect Home by Daniel Kenitz—let me tell you, I was SO excited for this one! The premise sounded like a total winner: fixer-upper vibes with drama and suspense thrown in. 🏠✨ But, uh, I can’t say it fully delivered for me. It had some good moments, but the pacing? A little all over the place, and I wasn’t completely sold.
So, Wyatt and Dawn—our perfect home reno reality TV couple—are living the dream… until Wyatt starts taking some seriously sketchy fertility drugs (illegal ones, btw 👀), and the plot gets dark, like, real fast. Suddenly, Wyatt’s not the man Dawn married, and she’s like, “Bye, I’m taking the twins!” 🚨 Cue the media circus, drama, and SO MUCH tension.
The concept? LOVE it. Reality TV + creepy husband = drama-filled gold, right? 🤩 But the fertility drug thing? I just wasn’t vibing with it, to be honest. It felt kinda far-fetched, and I kept waiting for that insane plot twist to knock my socks off… but, nope, didn’t happen. 🫤
What I did love, though: The dual POV! It gave us a peek into both Dawn’s desperation and Wyatt’s manipulative mind—yikes. 🙄 It definitely helped make things a little more gripping, but by the time I reached the end, I was like, “Wait, is that it?” The book had all this potential, but it just didn’t have the wow factor I was hoping for.
Tropes? You know I’m here for them! ✧ Celebrity couple drama 😵 ✧ Manipulative spouse 💔 ✧ Baby on the run 🍼 ✧ Media manipulation 📺 ✧ Twist that didn’t quite hit 🤷♀️
All in all, The Perfect Home was a quick, easy read that kept me engaged enough to finish, but I was hoping for way more. It’s a solid 3 stars for the effort, but I won’t be shouting about it from the rooftops anytime soon. 📉
4.5 very solid stars! I loved this book! I couldn't put it down and if I didn't have a job and a kid and other obligations, I probably would have binged it in a single sitting!
If you're an HGTV fan, you absolutely must pick this book up. I loved the fact that it was centered around a home improvement show and a husband and wife duo were the protagonists. It also added so much that we heard from both Wyatt and Dawn so we got both sides of the story. Pretty quickly, some theories I had about the storyline were debunked because of this and I actually really appreciated that!
What made this novel unique was the ASB, a drug that is illegal in the US but proven to increase fertility. It was interesting to see Wyatt's character shift after taking the ASB, learn of his past, and see the ramifications of quitting the ASB cold turkey. I liked that we had a reason/culprit for the troubling behavior and it added a lot to the story because it made me question my instincts about certain characters.
Dawn was a relatable character for me. She felt authentic and I appreciated her relationship with her mother, the challenges she faced trying to be a good mom to her twins, and her struggle with fame.
Overall, I really loved this book and very highly recommend. It was very well written, the plot and pacing were stellar, and it was surprising without ever being over the top. Grab this one if it's not on your radar!!
I have to start this by saying I’m really grateful that the synopsis for this book gives us a lot, so I am able to say a lot without ruining the MANY surprises in store for readers. If you’ve read the synopsis, you know what I mean! If you haven’t, read on…
Dawn and Wyatt Decker are B-list reality stars on HLTV’s “The Perfect Home”, a show where he does the construction and she does the decorating while providing some snark. It’s not totally for Dawn, as she is more shy, but Wyatt brought her into it and they make good money doing it. Still, Wyatt isn’t happy with what they have. He wants to be A-list. He wants to be a household name. He wants more and more things…including children. The problem? He’s infertile.
After not being able to conceive, he orders shady German fertility drugs online and the reviews were true - they really work! Dawn gets pregnant (with twins) very quickly, and Wyatt promises to stop taking the ASB. But also, the reviews were true - they can make you mentally ill! After awhile, he becomes withdrawn, acting strangely and sometimes being downright nasty. It’s not until Dawn finds a document on Wyatt’s tablet that is SO unhinged, terrifying and disordered that she takes their twins and runs. Soon, Wyatt is on the national news saying Dawn is an alcoholic having postpartum issues and he’s worried for her, begging her to please bring the babies back, etc. She’s trying to hide, but she’s a television personality on the run with twins, and it’s hard to hide that.
This book is written from the dual perspectives of the couple, and that worked perfectly for this story. It was fun to see the workings of how an HGTV-like show may be produced, and how some people are willing to fake it for the money and fame. The characters were great, the writing was great and the idea for the book was unique. This was funny and quirky at times, while still being a very thrilling and suspenseful book; not easy to do. I can’t think of a thing I’d change - five stars!
(Thank you to Scribner, Daniel Kenitz and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review. This book is slated to be released on January 7, 2024.)
To be fair, I’m not into reality television shows. At first this book seemed to be mostly about a reality television show - primarily a home improvement show. However, there was more to the story than that. There was a love story, between two people, plus family & friends. The character development was good. Parts of the novel seemed slow to me. I did read the entire story with an open mind.
If Daniel Kenitz has another novel published, I will most likely read it. I hope it’s a thriller.
The description calls this one Gone Girl meets Fixer Upper and honestly I wish! I can sorta see the comparison, it definitely had the DIY show vibes but GG is a stretch. There was something original here, I think the fertility issues angle was a unique approach but besides that and a few other aspects this felt like books we’ve read before. Don’t get me wrong, I liked it and was invested for the majority of the time and I knew everything would depend on how it ended and I guess I just wasn’t blown away by the direction the author took. I also wasn’t a huge fan of some of the characters behaviors and found them to be frustrating, I’m being purposely vague so as not to spoil things. Overall this had moments that kept me engaged and others that made me roll my eyes a bit but the premise was interesting and the writing strong enough that I would try the author again.
Dawn and Wyatt are the married couple stars of a popular home renovation reality show and are seemingly happy with newborn twins. Dawn is unaware that Wyatt is cheating on her with her best friend. Wyatt, already a horrible human being, took illegal fertility drugs in order to successfully produce the twins and the medication caused him to become even more dangerous than he already was. He has the ability to mask his true self via his charming TV host personality and everyone loves him. Dawn discovers a frightening plan Wyatt has written to elevate their celebrity status at a harrowing cost. She flees with the twins as Wyatt realizes what she discovered and manages to turn her friends, co workers and TV audience against her using post partum depression as her reason for leaving with the babies. Dawn has to find a way to expose Wyatt's true nature and can't trust anyone until her estranged stepfather reappears in her life to help her and make up for his years of neglect. Eventually other people come to believe Dawn which makes up for the friends who abandoned her to go to Wyatt's side. This is quite an impressive debut novel from Daniel Kenitz and I thank Scribner/Simon & Schuster for my ARC. Highly recommended.
The Perfect Home by Daniel Kenitz. Thanks to @scribnerbooks for the gifted Arc ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Wyatt and Dawn are a married couple with a successful home improvement reality tv show but their life is more complicated then it seems. When Wyatt takes an illegal medication to help with infertility, his personality changes and Dawn goes on the run with their infant twins.
The reality TV and home improvement aspect of the story was a lot of fun and I enjoyed the beginning. Once the action started, I was a little lost. The plot with the medication and note too much for me and not something that I was very invested in. I did like the different point of views and how not everyone was what they seemed.
“You’d lie. I’d lie. The greater good makes liars of us all.”
dnf @50% “fixer upper meets gone girl” is not at all what i got from this. it’s definitely more of a domestic/family drama than thriller and the home reno show was barely part of the book other than to establish that they were known as tv personalities. i just wanted more from this and i wasn’t interested enough in where it was going to finish.
A take-off on all of the married couples who renovate houses on HGTV. Wyatt and Dawn are a couple with a huge following; he is handsome and funny and she is the wife who rolls her eyes at his jokes and blows the budget on the decor. Except of course, none of it is real. This book did a good job of showing how fake the home flipping shows are and also how women are always treated poorly while the hapless men get scores of followers. The home improvement parts of the book were well done but the pacing was off as a thriller.
Wyatt and Dawn want to have children and Wyatt finds out he is infertile. He decides to try some unapproved medicine from Germany that causes side effects, especially if you go off of it too quickly. Dawn becomes pregnant but then finds out Wyatt has a dangerous side, a side that might be violent. Dawn gives birth to twins and after finding something on Wyatt's computer, goes on the run with the babies in order to protect them.
There is a lot of gaslighting in this book which is my least favorite trope in thrillers. Dawn makes poor decisions but also finds almost everyone she knows has turned against her, even women she considers close friends. I wondered why the author chose to use medication as the sole reason for Wyatt's actions as he seemed kind of selfish from the beginning. Good ending but too many bad decisions and people turned against Dawn for no reason.
I enjoyed this domestic thriller which focuses on a married couple who seems perfect on TV is slowly cracking behind the scenes until a a dark secret is revealed between the two and Dawn takes off with their twins. This was fast paced, twisty and a fun ride. My only wish is that Dawn has been made a stronger character as she often made poor decisions they seemed fairly obvious.
I received an advanced copy through Netgalley in return for an honest review.
Admittedly, this book had me on the edge of my seat psychologically most of the way through; the twists, turns and reveals just kept coming. That is, until they didn't. Despite my almost salivating in hopes of that final curve ball that would shoot the book over the fence, it never happened.
Early on, though, the story hit quite a few timely hot buttons, including a home improvement reality TV show with husband-and-wife stars who have the perfect combination of a solid marriage and skykrocketing ratings. But for both themselves and the homes they're renovating, the foundations are crumbling. Aha, I said - this plot will thicken.
As well it did. The renovators are Wyatt and Dawn Decker, a somewhat unlikely pair. He's handsome, charming, witty and outgoing; she's on the shy side and in no danger of being wooed away by Project Runway. But together, their onscreen chemistry works; the show is climbing in the ratings - in large part to their lively back-and-forths. On the home front, though, trouble is brewing. Both are intent on having a child, but since Wyatt is adamantly opposed to a donor or adoption, they head for a fertility clinic to be tested. There, the egocentric Wyatt learns he's the problem - and he's not a happy camper to say the least.
Then he learns about a controversial fertility drug - one that's illegal in the States; secretly, because Dawn isn't in favor of it, he takes the drug. Yep, you guessed it - shortly afterward, Dawn gets pregnant - with twins, no less. How she managed to get through the hammering and pounding of refurbishing for nine months while carrying such a heavy load was never explained - nor for that matter even mentioned - but apparently she somehow managed to carry on. Wyatt got through it as well, but his personality started on a downward slide. That did not escape his wife's attention to detail; in fact, she finds evidence that things are getting much darker right before the Dawn (sorry, couldn't resist).
The revelations prompt Dawn to do the unthinkable - take the twins and run. Wyatt, needless to say, is happy to play the wronged husband, and even happier to go to his adoring public with claims that his wife, who is suffering from serious post-partum depression, has fallen over the edge. From that point on, it's a race to see who wins, with the future of a TV deal and the very lives of a couple of innocent babies hanging in the balance. As I alluded to previously, the track is far from straight and narrow, and readers are in for a wild ride along with Wyatt and Dawn.
The ending itself wraps up most of the loose ends, and no doubt many readers will be happy with it. For me, though, the story absolutely screamed for a gobsmacker - which in a perverse way is exactly what I got as the lyrics of the old Peggy Lee hit, "Is That All There Is?" ran through my brain. Alas, in this case I guess it is.
Oh well - overall, it was an enjoyable experience - really - and I thank the publisher, via NetGalley, for the opportunity to read and review a pre-release copy.
Married couple, Wyatt and Dawn, are the stars of a home renovation reality tv show. They face difficulties starting a family and Wyatt secretly orders experimental fertility drugs. Dawn notices drastic changes in Wyatt’s personality but the medication does the trick and she gives birth to twins. Soon though Dawn will find herself in a nightmare situation.
I had a slightly different perspective of THE PERFECT HOME after I finished it than I did while reading the book. As a domestic thriller it was underwhelming. Not much shock value and I became increasingly frustrated with certain characters. But there is a solid message to take away which somewhat elevates my overall opinion of the book. I’m gonna need to leave it at that though so I don’t get into spoiler territory.
Thank you Scribner for sending me a free copy! All thoughts expressed are my honest opinion.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of The Perfect Home.
I was excited to read this since the premise was intriguing, a dark version of Fixer Upper, but I soon realized my expectations would not be met.
But my expectations are rarely met so why am I surprised?
** Minor handyman spoilers ahead **
There was nothing original or fresh about the plot; a young woman named Dawn is drawn by the charismatic and very handsome (as always in books) Wyatt Decker.
When Wyatt's personality undergoes a dramatic shift soon after the birth of their twins, Dawn discovers there's a lot she doesn't know about her husband (another popular trope) and she must do everything necessary to protect herself and her children.
I liked the dual prospective narrative but there was nothing I haven't read before in similar domestic thrillers:
Wyatt gaslights Dawn and her friends; he's a manipulative, scheming adulterer and Dawn (like nearly everyone else) has fallen for his charms.
I couldn't help feeling the toxic masculinity the author was trying to convey was not so subtly being downplayed and the black market drugs he was using was an excuse for his psychotic behavior.
There's nothing twisty or exciting or suspenseful about the narrative, nor did I like Dawn or anyone else. I didn't dislike her.
I just didn't care about her or what happened.
The ending was as meh as everything that came before it.
Welp_seems like I've been hitting all the wannabe thrillers in a row and this one was no exception. Idk if it was just that the author tried to hard to make it serious, but it came off more as a popcorn thriller. which it didn't really work as either. The characters are more like caricatures and none of them had any likability so it was hard to root for them to be ok. I did like the authors way of making people being in the media can alter their personality and what you see on tv definitely isn't reality no matter how they try and tell you otherwise. I don't have a lof of positive thoughts on this so Im going to keep my thoughts to a minimum, Many may enjoy it, I was just not one of them.
This is the first book that I have read in a long time that did a great job at maintaining a steady level of tension throughout. My heart was pounding in parts. It’s about a couple that are on a reality home repair show. The husband starts to become obsessed with gaining popularity and things take a turn. Highly recommend!
The Perfect Home was the perfect book for me and I loved it! It’s being touted as Fixer Upper meets Gone Girl and I thought that was a very accurate comparison.
Wyatt and Dawn are the perfect couple and star on a very popular home improvement reality TV show called The Perfect Home.
First of all, reality shows are my guilty pleasures and being able to go behind the scenes of one was so much fun for me. I know that reality shows aren’t really unscripted, but I didn’t realize how much of it was staged beforehand. Or at least it was in The Perfect Home.
Told from two POV’s, Wyatt the handsome charmer, and his wife Dawn, who is the wise cracking sidekick. We get both sides of the story when everything seems to fall apart and Dawn flees with her newborn twins.
Not wanting to get too spoilery, I’ll just say I was up late late late turning the pages as fast as I could!
*Thanks so much to partner Scribner Books and to NetGalley for the gifted eARC!*
Although billed as a thriller, this is really a popcorn domestic suspense read. There are no big twists and turns.
This is a story about a celebrity couple who are the stars of a reality TV home improvement show and who are unable to have kids naturally until the husband takes an experimental IVF drug. The focus is on the price of fame, narcissism, social media, and perception versus reality.
The premise is quite unique and it is a quick read but one that requires suspension of belief at times. The male character is also way over-the-top bad. Still, this was a pleasant way to pass a cold, wintery Saturday.
Thanks to the publisher for this complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
I thought the beginning of this book was really good. I love HGTV home renovation shows so this book appealed to me. About midway through the twist seemed really far fetched to me. I picked this book up several times after that but I lost interest and just could not finish it. This book didn’t work for me but you won’t like every single book you pick up. I hope it works better for the other readers.
I won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway and I enjoyed it immensely! The story had me on edge several times and took some twists and turns I didn’t see coming, both of which I look for in my domestic thrillers. I look forward to seeing more from this author.
A woman on a home renovation TV show discovers her husband's dark plot and flees with their twin babies, becoming public enemy #1. As she tries to protect her children and clear her name, she must outsmart her charming and manipulative celebrity husband.
This is a medium-paced read that will captivate you from the very beginning. The premise may seem a bit bizarre at first, considering the lengths the man goes to impregnate his wife. However, the plot is both intriguing and well-executed, making the story feel unique and almost believable.
Told from the perspectives of both characters, the contrast between them is fascinating. The character development is consistent throughout the narrative, though some sections may feel a bit lengthy and overly detailed. Despite this, the story remains engaging and keeps the reader's attention focused.
It's hard not to sympathize with Dawn, while her husband comes across as calculated and difficult to like, even bordering on annoying at times. The unexpected twists, including the ending, add depth to the narrative and keep the reader on their toes.
Overall, this book offers a different style of writing that is both suspenseful and enjoyable. If you appreciate stories that delve into themes of fame, pressure, close relationships, and dark secrets, then this is a must-read for you.
Thank you, Scriber, for the digital ARC copy. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The perfect marriage, the perfect family - the perfect little home. Dawn can't believe she can be so lucky. Her marriage to a reality star 'home improvement' personality still surprises her every day. Wyatt is perfectly sweet and attentive, driven and understanding. He's the perfect husband and the perfect partner. But soon after they start trying to have kids, they realize one of them is the reason they haven't conceived yet. Wyatt shouldn't take it hard, but he does. He has to fix this.
The story was a race and once I started, I didn't want to stop. Dawn was so darn easy to like. She was down to earth and realistic. Wyatt was easy to imagine and his charm oozed off the page. After Part 1, my jaw was on the floor. From there, each new part was a new shock and I needed to know how this would end.
The twists and turns kept me hooked and I loved how this one end, each lovely last chapter. Absolutely phenomenal, I will definitely look for more from this author!
A huge thank you to the author and publisher for providing an e-ARC via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Scribner for providing this book, with my honest review below.
I love House Hunters and everything else HGTV so this was the perfect thriller crossover for me! The Perfect Home follows a couple on a house projects show. All seems so well in their lives until Dawn, the wife, has twins and her husband (fame whore) Wyatt goes off the deep end. As it turns out the drugs Wyatt took to pump up his virility may just be causing him to go crazy, and poor Dawn is on a joint mission to both keep her twins safe from him and prove that it is he who is insane all while he’s disparaging her to the press.
Some parts of this story were a little too unbelievable but as I read it I just found myself enjoying the thrill ride and imagining some of my favorite couples on HGTV shows suddenly having a hidden dark side! Pick this up if you’d like a marriage of thriller and home improvement like yours truly.
The Perfect Home is one of those books that makes you want to throw it across the room while reading it because the characters are just that despicable. I loved Dawn and later Kelly and Tim, but that was about as far as it went on the likeable spectrum. My mouth dropped open at some of the things these characters did, and I was so angry for poor Dawn. This is Daniel Kenitz’s debut apparently but it didn’t feel like one, and I loved the way he got my emotions all fiery while I was reading this. The viewpoints alternate between Dawn and her mess of a husband Wyatt, and it gives new meaning to the phrase things are not always what they seem. Especially when you are dealing with Reality TV versus real life.
I would recommend listening to The Perfect Home over reading it, simply because Michael Crouch & Amanda Stribling made this book everything it could be plus more. They both fit exactly what I was expecting for Wyatt and Dawn in my head and their narration throughout was solid as they expertly captured the feeling and voice of the book. My advice to you is to go into this book as blindly as possible as it is my opinion that the synopsis gives away TOO much. I’m glad I didn’t read it prior to starting and all you really need to know is that this a thriller set against the backdrop of a home reno show.
Read this if you love over-the-top narratives, popcorn thrillers, and frustrating characters.
Book Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 Audiobook Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Thank you to Dart Frogg Communications, Scribner and Simon Audio for the gifted copies to review.
Oh my, I loved this one, it was quite the wild, crazy ride. Wyatt and Dawn Decker are the home renovation reality TV stars of the south, really it is mostly Wyatt and his charm, Dawn is his attention-to-detail sidekick wife, and their show is The Perfect Home. They are in love, just over the moon, and nothing could possibly go wrong with this scenario. Right? Right… Then the couple learns they have infertility issues, on Wyatt’s side, so he orders experimental drugs on the down low, as one does, and she finds herself pregnant with twins not too long after.
I mean, nothing can stop these two, not even infertility! But wait… Wyatt’s personality takes a dark turn, but Dawn seems to be the only one that notices, the only one receiving the brunt of it. She then discovers he is coming up with a tragic plot to become even more famous, and so she flees with the twins for their own safety. Problem is, he’s so slick he convinces everyone she’s the problem and stole their babies due to her drinking and depression issues.
That’s all you get, you’ll have to read this one yourself to know any more (but really you should read this book)! Told in dual POVs, I loved both perspectives of Dawn and Wyatt, and the audio for this was delightfully creepy with Wyatt. It was suspenseful and intense, I was not sure how it was going to end, but I sure did enjoy it, I mean really I enjoyed it the whole way through. This was such a satisfying read, and I loved the play on how fame can get to someone and keep them wanting more, and my goodness, I am glad I have better friends than these.
THE PERFECT HOME, by Daniel Kenitz, hit all the high points for me. I read this book in a hospital waiting room, and it kept me engaged from the first chapter. The suspense had me flipping Kindle pages as fast as I could.
Fixer Upper fans, this is your book. The husband-and-wife duo, Wyatt and Dawn, lead the show. The story is told from both of their perspectives, and a beautiful marriage soon becomes a dangerous medical landmine. Wyatt has fertility issues and orders ASB, a drug that is illegal in the US, but one proven to increase fertility. Soon after beginning the medication, his behavior becomes troubling. But don’t let me tell you the whole story.
I sided with Dawn, a truly relatable personality. Her character was so authentic, that I found myself thinking that the author was a female. Her behavior and dialogue were perfectly on target. The other characters add depth to the story, and her twins bring out her strong mothering skills. Dawn is a bright woman who has to make sure that Wyatt doesn’t destroy her and take her babies.
This is Daniel Kenitz’ debut novel. He’s a freelance writer, living in southeastern Wisconsin within jogging distance of dairy cows. I hope he has another story in the works. THE PERFECT HOME is a solid 5 star read.
