Jack Kursed has changed. Still ageless and unable to die, he’s found something worth living for. A wonderful daughter, beautiful girlfriend, and some magic to help take the stress off his curse. Hatred for the mortals no longer clouds his thoughts. He’s traded in his dark ways to help his daughter with her homework, sit on the couch with his girlfriend. But good things never last forever, and tragedy finds Jack once again. He will have to do things he never dreamed of to protect those he cares about.Jack will have to ask for help.
Witch's Kurse is another great outing for this series. This is another Jack-focused story, which is no problem for this reader as Jack is my favourite character. Part of that is how unique he is, but a bigger part is that this author continues to understand what makes this character great. He brilliantly balances the evil of the character with the character study of this man continuing to do bad things, but maybe for the right reasons for a change. It helps that he's often forced to face off with the scum of humanity, so we don't care what he does to them, but I'm cool with that.
I also still love the contrast between Jack and Tiffany. That little girl is almost as interesting as Jack, as her unbreakable spirit and goodwill continue to push her past all the dark things in her life to not just come out on the other side but bring light to the lives of everyone else in her life in the process.
Both of these characters are fascinating because this author knows how to write engaging characters and put them first and foremost in his story. Despite being polar extremes as characters, the author gives them both enough failings to make them feel real and well-rounded. And that same care is given to the other characters in this story. Whether it's Erica struggling to deal with the reality of Jack, Marie trying to reconnect with her non-supernatural roots, Kevin trying to find his place in the world, or even Leese figuring out her relationship with Kevin and her place in his life, these characters are all well realised and gripping as a result.
It makes this another book that I couldn't put down, despite reading it for the third time in nine years. It's an easy 5-stars.
I'm not going into what the story is about, you can read the blurb or other reviews for that.
This one of my top series and to be clear, I read a lot so that is really saying something.
Jack Kursed maybe the best character I've read. The humor that Glenn writes is truly great and I found myself laughing out loud on multiple occasions. While a lot of authors try to add in humor to their stories, few are as successful as Glenn.
I get excited when a new book in this series comes out. Fans of the series already know that these books revolve around a core cast of characters, recently described as Jack's pack by Glenn, each book centers on one of these characters. I love them all but I'd be lying if I didn't say that Jack is my favorite.
The mark of a talented author is when the book drags you in so deep your mind builds the world described as you read, as if you're an invisible observer to the story. Glenn achieves that with each book.
I like how each book is not only tied together but that they are all happening at about the same time frame so, when he mentions happenings of the other characters you know you'll be getting more details when that characters book comes out, neatly tying them all together.
While the biggest fans of the books maybe into the supernatural genre, you don't have to be a huge fan of that genre to love these books. Give one or two a try, I'd be shocked if you don't love them.
I am torn with what to think. I didn't really like the first half of the story. First of all I hate Jack, I hate the way he treats people. His personality isn't even believable. He keeps saying how he hates people and can't stand to be around them, yet he is insanely rich and could probably stay inside his house and never leave ( Just like Howard Hughes) but he doesn't. The whole super perceptive but can't pick up on what to say or why what he says is wrong is just ridiculous, its either one or the other. The idea that he can beat the crap out of someone or kill them just because he is having a bad day doesn't make me like him any more either. Some people would call him an antihero but I don't. His whole story is so repetitive as well: I don't like people, I don't like to be touched, I don't care about mortals, I only care about my daughter, I am an awesome cook - those phrases combined probably constitute at least 3 chapters of the writing. With all that being said though, at some point during every story he mellows out a little and becomes something of an interesting character. In this book we finally get to meet a full fledged werewolf and get to learn her story. Marie Johnson (at least that is what she calls herself now) is an 80 year old werewolf that thinks it is finally time to go to the town she was born and the place she was turned into a werewolf and her family was killed. They way that Marie and Jack meet isn't really a strong story point . While I hated the way this story started for these two, after it got going I actually really liked them together. I liked the way she kept sniffing him because she thought he smelled so good. I also like the way Jack looked at her when he did something violent and he could help smiling when she didn't bat an eyelash or she did something worse.
While Jack was away, Kevin was called on to babysit. I really like Kevin but I don't like how everyone treats him. Kevin is doing Jack a huge favor and yet all he does is put Kevin down and call him Glinda all the time. His daughter treated him crappy at first too. I really like the relationship between Kevin and Chris's sister up until this book.
There were so many story points that I didn't like and that didn't make sense and yet there is just something about this series that makes me still like it. Every now and then a character shows up or something funny happens to make me like it. Just look at my rating for this book. I spent most of this review bitching about one thing or another and yet I still rated it 3.5 stars? I can't explain it.
I really enjoy Glenn Bullion, his characters and dialogue often keep you in stitches! I have a fondness for Jack though! He is really in top form in this book. Would recommend these titles to fans of Charlaine Harris and Patricia Briggs!
So this is basically a Jack & Marie with Kevin as side-kick novel. No Victoria, no Alex, no Cindy -- though we still have Tiffany and Leese. Not a problem for me. I like Victoria, but I'm quite intrigued with Marie as a character. It's about time we have a werewolf in an equation, considering that Mr. Bullion already has a demonspawn, a vampire, a witch, and an immortal.
I really enjoy Marie -- I like that she's unapologetic about being a werewolf. She's done some killing and she's not looking for a cure. She embraced her wolf, even if the change is a pain. On certain level, I think she's a very good match for Jack.
I'm quite surprised with the turn of plot that involves Erica. I mean since she was present for two stories, I thought that she would be part of the gang. But nope, she breaks up with Jack and ends up murdered. Oh, well. Her murder case is a bit blah, though -- and feels too out of the left field. I guess I'm used to have murders in this series to be related to one of the characters. So I'm quite 'disappointed' that it isn't.
Story wise, I think this is the tightest of them all. I think Mr. Bullion has definitely writes better. I like how he introduces another set of threat, in form of werewolf hunters. I like how he writes his characters. And as the pages go, I go more deeply in love with Jack (he's just super awesome) and Kevin. It's so cute that even if Jack always says that he only cares for two people (Tiffany and Victoria), but Kevin is certainly has a special place in Jack's heart. Despite Jack's attitude (he always call Kevin "Glinda" haha), he helps Kevin with some relationship pointers and he even gives Kevin a JOB! Now, I call that "love" LOL. Kevin has also grown to have more confidence in his own power, even if he's rather clueless about what he's going to do in his life, professionally (until Jack gives him a job).
This is definitely a great series. I am looking forward to the next one and I truly hope that Marie will become a more permanent feature. Someone other than Victoria needs to keep up with Jack :)
PS: This is my favorite book-cover among all five books!!

Well as always another thrilling read from Glenn Bullion. I just love this series & i know it dent start of as one but boy have some of these characters developed over the past few books. Two of my favorite characters are in this book Jack with all his usual charm but with some very nice surprises for his character & Kevin my favorite witch. Kevin really is more of backup in this story but he's great, we get more details of his relationship with lees & thank goodness they're still going strong & their interaction with Jacks adoptive daughter who is becoming more like jack with every passing book. Jacks mission in this book crosses paths with a new female supernatural Marie & i must admit i just loved her she's great. I can't wait to read more about these characters maybe another big one with everyone battling side by side. These books never disappoint its well worth the read as a matter of fact you won't want to put the book down its that good.
This book is incredible! Jack and Victoria are my favorite characters in the series. This book only featured one of the dynamic duo and that was Jack. However, that was just fine as Jack can carry a story all by himself and he pretty much did. In this book, Jack's girlfriend, Erica, finds out about Jack being cursed and she leaves him. Time goes by but we don't notice it as another character is introduced by the name of Marie Johnson (at least this time around in her life). She's a werewolf and this is revealed pretty early in the book. She goes back home to reinvent herself and open her parent's bar back up. But it's pretty run down so it has to be completely remodeled/rebuilt. She manages to do this and hires four staff members. One staff member has a secret he's hiding which is why he wants to work with Marie. Jack ex-girlfriend is also working for Marie but is murdered soon after the bar opens. We aren't told much about her murder but Victoria calls Jack and lets him know. He goes out to try and find out what happened to Erica. He meets Marie the Werewolf and things begin to pick up all the way around.
I found the plot of this book to be excellent. Maybe because it dealt with two adult characters and teenagers or very young adults. :) Jack never gets boring to me. He shoots from the hip and if you don't like it, you have the rest of your life to get over it. (Hopefully it isn't as long as vampires or Jack lives). :) As far as I'm concerned the author could write about Jack and Victoria for the rest of the books, and I'd be happy. But I know that other folks like the other characters.
I was a little upset that Tiffany was such a brat to Kevin but the reason was believable especially since she's nine years old. I also love the way that Kevin does what he's asked to do but does it in such a way that it's unique. I'm not sure if I like him and Leese together because quite frankly at my age young love and continuous sex does not thrill me anymore.
I did like Kevin saving the dog and the fact that Leese came right out and told him that she knew! I also liked the fact that Kevin told Tiffany about the magic and that she already had a good idea of what was going on. Now I'm wondering how Jack is going to deal with the fact that Kevin spilled the beans to his daughter. I hope the author doesn't just gloss over this. (To be honest, I thought Victoria would have been the one to let Tiffany in on everyone's secret magic!). I'm glad I was wrong. :)
Pretty much this book would be okay if someone were to read it before reading the others in the series. (IMO). It's not a stand-alone book but it's pretty explainable in and of itself.
Marie’s storyline (star off for grammar errors and language)
Welcome back, Jack! Loved the storyline of Marie, but your grammatical errors are ridiculous. Every storyline has had several errors. Get someone who knows how to check for the mistakes in your writing. Don’t forget to use commas in the right places, too, please. Page 159, or around there, you left out the word “with” when Leese was referencing getting off of work. Page 215, or in that area, your pronoun usage was incorrect. Kevin was referencing words as he was in conversation with Tiffany. The sentence was “… Jack and I…” when you needed to use “…Jack and me…” If you, as an author, are not sure which pronoun to use - remove the other person referenced. Or better yet, just remember the easy rule that you use the pronoun “I” in the subject of a sentence only. That means that you are speaking of others and yourself doing whatever. Use “me” in the predicate of a sentence and always last! Examples: Subject - Marie and I killed all but one wolf hunter. (Correctly used and easy to see when you remove - Marie and. You have a complete sentence!) Me and Marie killed all but one wolf hunter. (Incorrect usage and easy to see when you remove part of the subject of the sentence. You would NOT say “Me killed all but one wolf hunter.)
Predicate- All but one of the wolf hunter were killed by Marie and I/me. (Correctly used pronoun “me” can be checked by omitting the other person(s) in the predicate along with the article. “All but one of the wolf hunters were killed by me. “ To say: “ All but one of the wolf hunters was killed by I. (That makes absolutely no sense.))
NEVER name yourself first. That’s why children and others who do not speak English as their first language have such a terrible time speaking and writing it. They hear adults say or sing sentences that are grammatically incorrect!
If this post sounds like a teaching moment, maybe it should. Too many authors are getting paid to write about their ideas, and that’s good, but keep in mind your audience. That could mean toning down the language just a bit, but there is no excuse for poor grammar!
Worst main character ever. Spent the book hoping someone would do to him all he does to others. Yuck. Disgusted with myself for reading the book as I was introduced to this king scumbag in an earlier book.
Spoiler alert - burns down the bar of a person because of what someone who worked there did to him when he could not even be harmed? Done with any books in this series that has anything to do with this idiot.
Down with the coronavirus and needing something other than this - might just be me but at this time: the book is mind candy. There is nothing intellectually or sociologically redeeming about the book and I don't want to read about a character like this.
I love, love, love Glenn B's story telling. He creates fun characters facing challenging situations, with some pretty creative solutions. As anti-social as he is, I am beginning to really like Jack, .. [sigh], .. I suppose that may say something about me, . ah well, .. I can imagine what Jack would say about me, ..
I enjoyed getting to know Marie. I hope to "see" more of her in future books.
Almost turned away when I saw no audio. A working, busy mom. No way would I find time. Oh I was wrong. It’s my mid day and night pleasure. Better than wine. I enjoy the story and the jokes are good. Something small but it has brought a smile and pleasure to my long days. Keep them coming.
This had to be my favorite of the series so far, mostly because Jack is again on the loose. If you've read the previous books you know Jack is one BAMF and you do not cross him. This one kicks off on a sad note, but Jack's been around for a few hundred years so he moves on...But when you mess with one of his few close acquaintances, its time to run and hide.
I loved the introduction for the new character of Marie, who's a . Putting her together with the Immortal bad ass that is Jack, and letting them run loose made for one of the most destructive teams I've read. They had some good chemistry, both lone wolves, both ...makes me hope to see more of her in future novels.
Kevin is also in this one, and grows up a bit. I like Kevin and his banter with Tiffany was fun, good to see she knows what's what as well when it comes to Jack and his Robin sidekick.
A short synopsis: Tragedy strikes forcing Jack to travel to Montana to get revenge. That is about as much as I can say without giving too much away. although there are a lot of ins and outs!! I will admit this one started slow as I tried to figure out who the heck "Marie" was and what she meant to the story...but the further in we got, the better the story.
But I truly love this series. It is one of a very few for which I try to watch for new releases. Although I love Jack's character, I really love all the characters. They seem to work for and with each other. The dialogue is silly at times, but I enjoy that because it makes me laugh. I think the personality of each is growing and changing as some of the newer "creatures" learn who they are and even the very old "creatures" have continued to grow and change (even if Jack desperately does not want to change).
I really enjoyed this and was happy seeing the characters evolve. After the last I was worried where the series might go but was happy to see strong development on Jack and the addition of Marie. Kevin also does some serious growing up and manages to start having some confidence in himself. Not much Victoria in this one but I am hoping to see more of her in the next book, she was the glue for this group...
Of course the really fun part was anticipating how badly Jack was going to mess up the people that get in his way!
Pretty great addition to the series but there were some inconsistencies with the previous novels mostly involving Erica and Jack. I was surprised she was killed off but I guess her death was an important plot connecting point. Guess she was like Rachel from book 2 a mostly one novel character ( ok Erica was in 1 and a half) which is shame both were pretty interesting. Looking forward to reading more.

Cannot explain how amazing these books are, I NEVER though I'd find another author like Keri Arthur but I DID!!! Not a sexy book like hers but just as full of in depth characters and mystery and action and blood!!! I f*cking LOVE THESE BOOKS!!!! Cannot put them down and I've read like 3 in a week with a 3 year old and working full time, MUST READ!!!!!!!!
Wow!!! i just finished another great story and just like I suspected, I thoroughly enjoyed meeting Marie. Kevin is progressing rather nicely coming into his powers. Glenn you are like a master chef, your characters are your ingredients and the way you mix them and prepare a literary delight,I'm definitely hungry for more.
the more I like his books. there is probably less tension in his stories then there might be but that is be cause you know the protagonists will triumph and I like them enough that I am ok with that
This book and this series are very relatable. I have had nothing but enjoyment from reading the first six books. You may even get frustrated with the characters and their problems and that is the beauty of it. Supernatural meets everyday! Perfect...
The series is great and each book gets funnier than the last. The introduction of new characters is done seamless, and without flaws. The storyline evolves and keeps you interested
