And Adria Caskey was about to settle the account, once and for all. Long ago her family had been ripped from her with no warning. Now Adria was finally ready to take down the only man left of those responsible. Peter Dragon needed an undercover bodyguard to watch his back - and who better than Adria, a trained executive protector, to become his personal assistant?
Her plan to infiltrate and destroy had begun - until a third party blindsided her with intent to kill them both. Now Adria had to join forces with her enemy and stay alive long enough to fight another day....

Kurtz "nails it" with Personal Enemy! I received a copy of this book from eBook Discovery in exchange for my honest review. It definitely lived up to its description as being a "romantic suspense novel." Kurt's conscious or unconscious choice to present her readers with a "can't put it down" book without having to resort to steamy bedroom scenes is a refreshing and much appreciated change of pace for this reader. The few twists and turns woven into the plot here and there provide the reader with several gasps of shock and/or AHA moments to keep the reader glued to their seat from one chapter to the next. If you are a fan of the suspense genre this is a definite "must read" to add to your reading list.
I don't usually read romantic suspense I tend to lean more towards contemporary romance but this book gripped me and didn't let go. I read the whole book in one sitting; completely immersed in Peter and Adria's story of murder, questionable motives and fear.
I liked Adria she was a strong female character with an actual backbone! That quite a few female protagonists are missing nowadays. liked the female bodyguard aspect and how she saw situations differently, focusing on every detail. She kicked arse and showed that girls are as strong, if not stronger than guys are. And her grandfather seemed like the type of guy I would want to meet. I liked seeing inside her head but I also felt like she took over the story a bit, hearing Peter's thoughts and feelings could have been interesting and balanced it out a bit more. I also would have liked to have known a bit more about her; the training, what she was like after her parents died, that type of thing. Though that may not have completely fit into the story I would still have liked to have seen it.
Peter was quite a good character but I didn't feel a whole lot of anything for him he was just sorta there while Adria took centre stage. Also, him getting all worked up over nothing which affected Adria's mission kinda annoyed me. Like, this woman chose to protect you with all her resources and you try to make it difficult for her. Okay, he wasn't like that all the time but there were parts where he did do that. Also is your presentation really worth your life honestly, if you die then there's no presentation anyway? And Peter kept talking about if he didn't have the presentation then the other guy would win, completely forgetting the part where him dying would be an even bigger win. You are probably getting a strong feeling that I didn't like Peter but he wasn't all that bad, that's just what I'm focusing on. Though if the female protagonist had been a weak character the story would probably have fallen flat and become a DNF for me.
I would have also liked to have had a bit more talking about the past from the two of them as that's what started this whole thing in the first place. Even at the least talking about the night Adria's parents died as that affected both of you a lot.
I also didn't feel a lot of the romance part climbing through and maybe there wasn't really time in their suspense-filled world but there was still time to talk or something. But maybe that's just how romantic suspense stories are like and since I haven't read many I wouldn't know. Even so, I still would have liked to see more of them in a more romantic aspect.
Besides that I felt like the author portrayed each emotion extremely well making me feel like I was there, feeling the emotions alongside Adria and Peter. In the time I spent reading this their world became mine. There were quite a few twists and turns though some were a bit predictable, tho that could just be me.
Though you may think that I am a bit negative and may not have liked the book much I actually found it quite enjoyable and will likely read it again and knowing the story I will be able to find clues I might have missed.

This book honestly kind of makes me feel like a jerk, I have to admit i am completely guilty of judging this book by it's cover, (for the record not the cover goodreads is showing I got the cover of him and her and the cabin on fire in the background). For some reason when i seen the cover my head just went straight to erotica and it made me not want to read it! This book was actually my last pick ebook discovery apparently ran out of every other book i had to choose from!
I am completely, jaw on the floor, surprised by this book! I did not expect to like it at all. I am very happy they were out of all the other books, this book was action packed from the beginning! That first chapter just instantly grabs a hold of you, makes you want to take the time to figure out every little odd and end of the book and does not let you go right up until the last chapter!! The characters are great, and by that I mean every character! I love the way this author introduced every character! I had no problem keeping track of who everyone is, no problem even following the business aspects of the book, the twists and turns of this book are very surprising, I thought i had it figured out a few different times and every time i was wrong! I also love the way things were turned around in this book, usually it's the guy saving the girl, guys always get to be hero, Don't get me wrong Peter had a few moments where he got to be helpful but this book Adria was the hardcore bodyguard! I love the way she handled herself in protecting him, and the fact that you could tell he had a huge problem with her being in charge but still sucked it up and went with it once he realized he needed her to keep saving his butt!
Very very happy with this book! Could not have asked for a better story! I will definitely be looking out for other books by this Author in the future! Thank you ebook discovery for making me read this book! ha

The book, billed as a romantic suspense, is misleading. It's more of an action thriller with a heroine who can't help herself but fall for the guy she's supposed to destroy.
Let me preface the following comments with one thought. This author has a lot of talent. She's a good writer and this book is a good read. It's storyline, for the most part, holds up but I kept getting bounced out of it by the heroine behaving in ways that didn't ring true.
For me the heroine's constant self-doubt didn't match the character's history. She survived the murder of her parents. Her grandfather took her in and trained her in self-defense in general and martial arts. He trained her to be an executive bodyguard, a highly skilled woman.
Given her years of martial arts training I felt she would have a much better handle on her emotional state. Her internalized belief her grandfather wanted her to destroy the son of the man who murdered her parents is not believable. If Grandpa wanted the guy destroyed he would have made that clear to his granddaughter over almost 2 decades of training. It wouldn't be something she'd make a mistake about.
Some of the plot points needed more development as they seemed a little too contrived and convenient for the overall story.

Everything begins one night when Adria Kaholo who's six witnessed her parents being gunned down by a man. Reason? Her parents wouldn't want to pay for his protection, so their killing is a warning to others. Don't defy him.
Years later, Adria is now known as Adria Caskey. Take after her maternal grandfather last name. After he passed, Adria wanted to infiltrate the enemy base camp and revenge her parents. The target? Peter Dragon. Who's is last known as Peter Hauxwell. He's the son of Rudy Hauxwell. Who murdered her parents years ago. But after getting to know him and know more about her grandfather's secret, Adria knew that she's very wrong about Peter. Not only that, there's a dark enemy out there trying to kill her and Peter.
Plot is ok, it got me thinking who's the one been betraying them. And suddenly Adria can't trust anyone when she's figuring who's the mole. The suspense is good it kept me going. Not bad.

Wow! I loved this book. It kept me sucked in from all the different twists that come. It had started out a bit slow, but it definitely kept a good pace through most of it. I really loved Peter and his ethics/beliefs were. He would not do something if it wasn't something he believed would be good for everyone, a win-win situation. Adria took a little bit for me to warm up to just based on how we were introduced to her at the beginning. I don't want to say too much to give away twists, but this book was a really good read. It's one of those books that if you want you can think harder about certain things that are given away to try to figure out how things are going to turn out, or you can just read it at face value at the time and get surprised. I would definitely recommend reading it.

When I review a book, I don't try to briefly tell the story because that's the cover's job. Instead I try to describe how the book made my feel.
I read a lot of books. Seldom am I unable to figure out who the bad guy is before the middle of the book. I was honestly surprised at who actually was the bad guy this time. The author was very clever in creating the twists and turns in this book and I bet you will also find yourself challenged as you try to figure out which character was bad. I also enjoyed the chase scenes.
I highly recommend this book. Allow yourself plenty of time to read this book or you may find yourself like I did wondering what was going to happen next when I should have been sleeping.
Great read, full of suspense. It kept you hooked until the end. I liked both characters. Peter grew up in a mob type family but he was nothing like them, he only did things for the good of everyone, not just himself. Adria's family was ripped away from her when she was a child. Her grandfather taught her his business of being a trained executive protector. Someone is after them, can they stay alive and figure out who they can trust and who is after them. I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a good suspense novel.
