“But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward.”
-Rocky Balboa

Ty Roscoe and Luca Mitchell have moved beyond their rivalry in MMA, becoming more than just teammates. Now working together both in and out of the cage, they’re focused on one common making it to the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

But their journey is about more than just achieving success in the octagon. As pressures and obstacles threaten to derail their path to the top, they also grapple with how to love and support each other through it all. As Ty returns to training after injury, and Luca continues to fight for his choices in life, they are no longer exerting dominance and control over one another. Instead, they learn to lean on each other’s strengths and break free from the choke hold these pressures have on them.

They’re stronger together than they ever were apart.
And no matter how tight the hold, they refuse to submit. Because the ultimate strength comes from facing life’s challenges side by side.

But is it enough to make their dreams come true?

Choke Hold is book 2 in the No Holds Barred duet and ends with an HEA.
Books in this duet must be read in order, as book 2 is a continuation of book 1 with the same main characters.

I read these two books so fast,my eyes needed help blinking. I missed this type of grumpy sunshine where the grump remains a full on grump and doesn’t get soft <3

Choke Hold is the final entry in the No Holds Barred duet that focuses on MMA fighters Ty and Luca. After his almost career-ending fight, his journey in this story is finding his confidence in his place in the ring. I loved seeing Ty learn to process and accept his new perspective on fighting while regaining his confidence.

Ty's counterpart Luca is an amazing friend and an even better boyfriend for Ty. He loves passionately and defends intensely as he works towards improving his fighting career while getting justice for Ty. Luca is so much fun, I love his endless energy and unending love and devotion to Ty. He also has his own hurdles to overcome with his parents and their judgmental attitudes towards his profession. I loved seeing him stand up and defend his choices and chosen career.

Overall I loved this story from beginning to end. These two are so much fun together, they love one another so desperately and all-consuming, which makes for a steamy, entertaining, and highly addictive story.

Eve Holmes is officially on my 'must read immediately' list of authors!

This duet was so, so good. I laughed, I cried, and I smiled so much.

✅ Perfect balance between emotion and spice in their relationship throughout the entire duet. Plus there's a lot of variation in the sex scenes so I wasn't just skimming them like I usually do. I'm all about the emotional connection and I wouldn't be sad if there was zero spice on page, but this was really nicely done and kept my attention. Is it realistic? I don't know because I'm Ace 😂 but the emotions were good!
✅ So much MMA content - it's not just mentioned that it's their passion, you feel it and you see that it's who they are. Loved all of the technical terms and descriptions - if I'm reading a sports romance, I want to see the 'sport' as well as the romance.
✅ Strong character personalities and so much character growth - I'm picturing Ty as Rocky running up the stairs...
✅ Great side characters who don't steal the show or divert attention to them
✅ Moon and Stars. I fucking loved this and what it meant to them 🥰
✅ Luca's entire wardrobe

There were times that it was a cheesefest and a bit too OTT, but I loved this book regardless. And if you haven't also read the Songs of Freedom trilogy yet, definitely go do that! Also has great character development, strong personalities and there is a fuck ton of emotional angst.

Can't wait to see what's next from Eve Holmes!

Choke Hold by Eve Holmes is the second part of the No Holds Barred duet. You absolutely need to read the first part, Hooks In, before diving into this one.

Luca and Tyler...these two boys completely won my heart, and it's with a touch of sadness that I bid them farewell.

Eve Holmes has given us the perfect follow-up to Hooks In. A book in the image of Luca and his Tiger: full of fight, fun, steam and banter.

Even though Tyler and Luca were now officially together, I was pleased to see that this hadn't changed their dynamic too much. Luca continued to infuriate Tyler with his love of pop music, cartoons and unicorns. His sunshine personality shone brighter than ever and secretly Tyler loved it all. You can bet he'd never admit it!

It was just great fun to accompany them again on their quest to become the best MMA fighters, even if the road to their destination was strewn with pitfalls. It was hard to watch Tyler struggle with the aftermath of what happened at the end of the first book. I loved seeing how Luca and Ty were there for each other to get through the challenges along the way. They were a really solid team.

Eve continues to amaze me when it comes to steamy scenes. There was one in particular that surprised me and that I hadn't read often until now in MM books. There was a subtle build up leading up to this scene, but I have to say I never saw it coming. I absolutely loved it! There was a lot of intensity between Tyler and Luca and you could feel how their feelings fueled the passion that burned between them.

This duet is definitely one of my top reads of 2024. Tyler and Luca will always have a very special place in my heart. They made me laugh and they made me feel so much. Moon and stars forever!

I’ve been waiting for this sequel and I wasn’t disappointed! You do need to read the first book, Hooks In, before this because this is a duet and continuation of Luca and Ty’s story.

These two men really compliment each other so perfectly. It’s crazy to think they were rivals for so long but also makes sense since their fighting styles are different and they were always pitted against each other in the ring. They teach each other how to open up and use parts of themselves they never could before, both in and out of the ring. Ty is coming off a near career ending injury and he cannot admit weakness of any kind. He needs to be able to fight and the one person who can help him is Luca.

Luca, who always seems so open and free and silly, is also fighting for what he wants. His parents don’t take him seriously and want him to pursue a different path. Ty is there to help him face this head on and realize he deserves to be happy on his terms.

This book really closes out their story but I still would love to check in with them from time to time. They are so great together and I just adore them. I love reading about them fighting, both in and out of the ring. This wouldn’t work for everyone but it is a way they communicate. They also have an awesome group of people around them, supporting them.

I do wish we had more of a glimpse into their Las Vegas fights. I think some of the family drama weighed the story down and the fighting scenes were exciting and fast paced. I know we needed Luca to confront his parents but they were so pompous and I couldn’t believe they were still trying to control their adult son’s life. Luca’s sisters were great though and they welcomed Ty into their lives.

Tbh was a little worried because once a couple is together I usually lose all interest, but this was so cute. MY HEART. I love everything about it. Reading about Tyler slowly becoming softer for Luca was everything, I can’t. 10/10 recommend.

Why did this story need to be told in almost 700 pages?
Literally nothing new happened.

Luca and Ty go through exactly the same things, have sex in exactly the same way, they talk the same, act the same, the story is literally about nothing new except they get to the UFC in the epilogue.

🔵 Luca and Tyler are together
🟡 Tyler meets Luca's parents
🟢 The move in together by the end of the book
🟣 Same stilted dialogues, these guys don't gel, they fuck but that's it, they don't have that intimacy going on, they can't communicate
🌶️ Sex scenes are the same as in the previous book, just the same thing over and over again; more sex in this book; some fisting; both vers

So basically yeah, nothing new. They train, they're sort of hostile still, but it's getting old, since now they're a couple; they glare a lot, grind their teeth a lot, you'd never guess they're in love, seriously.

"He casually takes a drink of his coffee, and I try not to launch myself at him with fists of fury. With a large sigh and a mean side- eye, I make my way into the kitchen."

Now I get guys can be held back like Ty, doesn't mean anything, he's just the way he is, can't help it, he's trying, but damn he has a boyfriend and they're more like roommates most of the time. Does Tyler even like Luca? That was my question most of the time.

Luca is still obnoxious and I feel like I'm not reading about a guy. I feel like I'm reading about a girl. Even the things he says are very typical for a very nagging girlfriend. Luca was constantly on Ty's ass about opening up and letting go and just weird things, I don't know, he was annoying the shit out of me most of the time.

"Luca turns to face me when he realizes I’m not following and points a finger at me. “No.”
I open my mouth to respond but he continues.
“I said no. We’re going out. Come on.” He pats his thigh. “Let’s go.”
My eyes narrow at him. “I’m not a fucking dog.”
“Oh, right.” He holds out his hand and rubs his fingers and thumb together. “Psst psst psst, here kitty kitty.”

Hundreds of pages of just training and their stilted dialogues, no chemistry, no connection, and every chapter ending with cheesy lines about fucking.

Don't even get me started about tiger references. All the time. Was that annoying or what??

Yeah, this wasn't it.
Not good.

Yall the absolute chokehold (😏😏) Luca and Ty had on me in this one!!

I adore these two so much, and didn’t think it was possible to love their characters more than I already did, but seeing their dynamic change from rivals to lovers in book 1 to the solid unit they were in this one was 🤌🏻

Luca did everything he could to help build Ty’s confidence again and didn’t take shit from him after his injury had him second guessing himself, and Ty calling out Luca’s awful fucking parents was IMMACULATE.

Choke Hold truly was the most perfect continuation and ending to their story, and I could not have asked for more. Seriously cannot wait for more from Eve!

I don’t know what happened between the end of book 1 and this one, but this just didn’t hit the same. I had fun in book 1—I could see them starting to get to know each other, building something. The stuff that bothered me in book 1 and I chose to overlook? Yeah, it hit a lot harder here. The whole book felt like Ty and Luca pulling a rope in opposite directions like goddamn donkeys.

The physical side made sense there. But in book 2, I was hoping for more. More intimacy, more love, I guess. I wanted to feel something deeper. I wished there were more delicate touches. Yes, they’re both rough—physically, emotionally, all of it—but something has to give, right? Either in bed or in life in general. I love me some smut and these guys are *dirty*, but I honestly skimmed some scenes because they started to feel like more of the same. I just wanted them to make love at least once. (I know… lame.) Ty has an aversion to “tender moments” that doesn't sit right with me… even the way he sometimes talks goes Luca is so brutish that it amazes me Luca accepts with a smile.

The grumpy/sunshine dynamic that worked in book 1 started to wear thin here. What was once a fun personality contrast now feels exaggerated. The grumpy is just straight-up rude and selfish at times, and the sunshine? Too much. Like, cartoonishly too much. It felt like someone turned their traits up to 100 and forgot to dial it back. I ended up not seeing Ty change that much, I think he’s cold and insensitive most of the times. And let’s admit, that he rolls his eyes so frequently that I’m scared they’re going to stuck in the back of his head.

And seriously—how do these two manage to accomplish anything? One look and they’re horny. They work out together in shorts and no shirts, and everything—*everything*—is a reason to want to tap that. It's all fuck, cock, dick, ass, and cum. All. The. Time. That fisting scene came out of nowhere 😳

I don’t usually count fucks in books, but this one? Had 711 fucks to give. And not just the sexy kind—also a lot of “fuck you,” “fuck off,” and trash talk. It’s nonstop. They’re always bickering, always.

And look—it might sound like I hated it. I didn’t. I guess these are just all the flaws I ignored the first time around, and now they’re harder to avoid. But I *do* love them. They’re fun, funny, sweet, hot, and committed. There *was* relationship growth, and I appreciated that. The battles were really well written too—so detailed you could practically feel the punches. And finally, FINALLY, Luca got a backbone and stood up to his parents. Like, yes, dude! You’re 26. You can choose your damn career. I loved all the stress baking and ALL those tiger references, adorable 🥰

So Ty and Luca, I’m glad you’re happy. All the moon and stars to you.

I am sooooo sad that our time with Ty and Luca has come to an end!! This is book 2 of a duet so you must read Hooks In first! If you loved them in book 1 you’ll love them still in this book where they continue on their journey to the UFC!

They were such a fun grumpy/sunshine couple that made me laugh and say awww at the little cute moments between them! And their sexy moments! Wow!! 🥵 Eve knows how to write these scenes like a pro! These boys are fun and absolutely filthy!

They had some hard moments together that got me emotional but still stuck by each other the whole time! I loved their HEA! It was exactly perfect for them and I wouldn’t have changed a thing!

I cannot wait to read more by this author. Everything they’ve written so far (this series and the Songs of Freedom rockstar trilogy) have been absolutely amazing and I’m sure any future books will amazing as well!

Can I say Im a little disappointed? It may have been my mood today or just that this book wasnt as great as the first. I dont know, maybe I expected more character growth and relationship growth between Luca and Ty. I mean we got a little but for some reason, I just didnt connect to them and their relationship, which made it hard to care about their fights. I guess I was just over the whole grumpy as fuck thing Ty had going on. I know he went through a lot as a kid and its hard for him to not always be on edge or ready for a fight but at some point it just got so tiring. I read that he loves Luca, and I read that he cares but when a character continuously talks about how annoying his bf is or tells him to shut the fuck up over and over or just doesnt seem to care that much, it gets tiring. I get the whole grumpy x sunshine trope but like bro if Luca can suck it up and take on his parents you can at least get over your grumpy as shit at least with him. Luca did everything for Ty, and I felt like Ty just hardly did or cared about Luca, but thats my opinion. I mean I read the shit he did, but after shit he says and does, then he is like ooh i love him and I care about him, it doesnt really connect. I feel like this whole moons and stars stuff just something had to tell each other, because I actually felt no love between the two, just people who like to punch one another and fuck. And Im looking for a little bit more in my romances now a days. Also I knew I wasnt into this book because 0 things got highlighted, like nothing stuck out to me. Feels bad because I remember liking the 1st book. But this just didnt hit it for me.

A stress baking MMA fighter and his rival MMA bad boy fighter… what more could a girl want?!?!? I’m recently obsessed with Eve Holmes and I need more from her ASAP.

This review is for the entire duet!

Ty and Luca had this burning rivalry that was just as much emotional as it was physical. Ending up training at the same gym as teammates showed that they really didn’t know much about each other.

Being forced to not only work together but learn from each other really made their walls start to crumble. They slowly opened up to each other and the tension from their rivalry turned into a more heated sexual tension. Luca’s flirting was ruthless and their chemistry was off the charts. I loved that they both learned from each other both in MMA fighting as well as in life.

Luca was an absolute riot. I adore that idiot. He’s so unapologetically himself even though he feels so much pressure from his parents. He has no filter and wears his heart on his sleeve. And Ty just accepts him for who he is to his core. Ty might be annoyed by him constantly, but he never tries to change him.

“Moon and stars” brb sobbing. This was a beautiful way for these two to communicate their love for each other. And the tattoo 😭

Ugh I just loved these books so much. I can’t articulate it properly because there are so many pieces that I loved. From the author’s dedication I was instantly hooked.

And the amount of knowledge behind MMA brought a lot of realism to the story. It felt very true to Luca & Ty and the details really showed how deep their hearts were woven into this sport.

« I wrap an arm around him, pulling him into me as he rests his head on my shoulder, and we look up at the moon and stars. And it feels good. »

This was a good sequel.

First, the characters growth was a big part of the book and I loved that. Luca with his parents, setting boundaries and not letting them walk all over him. Ty, finding himself again as a fighter, learning to how to be supportive and a good boyfriend.

The romance was cute. Their dynamic didn’t change and I loved that so much. Sometimes Ty did get on my last nerve with the way he talked to Luca, but I guess that’s how their relationship was built because Luca didn’t mind at all. He actually kept on pushing Ty’s boundaries because he knew he needed it.

Overall it was good.

Wow! This book was perfect! Eve really knocked it out of the park with this sequel. The growth we got to see in these boys and the relationship progression was *chef’s kiss* and the steam like one scene in particular o think might have unlocked something for me ( you’ll know it when you get there )

We pick up right where we left off pretty much in Hooks In and we get to watch these two work so hard to heal their trauma and to achieve their dreams. And while these two definitely love each other that rival tension never fades.

I’m so happy to see these boys get everything they worked so hard for but also am sad to see them go. I don’t know what Eve has planned next but I do know I will be gobbling it up!

Choke Hold is the second book in the No Holds Barred duet by Eve Holmes. It must be read after the first book, Hooks In. This MM rivals to lovers romance takes place in an MMA gym and is told from a first person dual point of view. In this story, Ty and Luca get their happily ever after. You can expect continued grumpy/sunshine vibes, banter, snark, sass, dirty talk, fisting, cum play, and found family.

As always, ensure you review the content and trigger warnings to decide if this book is right for you. Note that this list of warnings may be complete. Please take care of yourself while reading.
And as his hand slides up my chest and wraps around my throat, I smile against his lips. I may have tamed the Tiger, but he’s still a wild beast. And tonight, this beast needs to fucking roar.

I absolutely loved Hooks In, but I read it way back in February! So when I picked up Choke Hold it was so good to be back! We pick up right where we left off in the first story. Ty and Luca have decided to be a couple, and Ty's about to start training after healing from his nasty concussion. We follow the ups and downs while he trains, watch him and Luca's relationship flourish, and watch Luca face his parents. These two have such a unique and incredible relationship. I love that the author didn't just turn them into your standard, expected couple because I don't think that would've worked. We still get to see Luca's vibrant personality shine through and enjoy Ty's grumpiness. Ty loves Luca, I never doubt that. But he shows it in his own, subtle little ways and I adore that for both of them. Luca had me laughing, and my goodness, the spicy scenes in this book had my Kindle threatening to catch fire. The whole found family they have at the gym, as well as Luca and Ty's lovely coworkers, really rounded out this book.

I find couples that span multiple books are always a gamble, and sometimes as a reader, you can get bored of reading about them or think they're too drawn out. 100 percent not the case with Luca and Ty. I loved watching them navigate their relationship. My heart went out to Ty when he thought he was bad at relationships and didn't know how to support Luca as his family stressed him out. And of course the epilogue! It was so simple but it was the absolute perfect cumulation of their story. Can't wait to see what Eve blesses us with next!
I step closer to him. “I’m glad you’re my family.”
His hand lifts to the side of my face, and he presses his lips to mine in a soft kiss.
“Moon and stars, Tiger.”
“Moon and stars, Mitchell.”

This was my very first ARC so to say I am excited is an understatement. Choke hold is part two of No Holds Barred Duet, the first book is Hooks In. I read the first book in February and I fell in love with both Luca Mitchell and Ty Roscoe. They really were the best type of enemies to lovers.

Choke Hold was the perfect follow up to the first book. Luca and Ty were together in this book they lived most of the time in Luca’s apartment. I liked that the dynamic between them hasn’t changed, Luca was still all sunshine and Ty a real grumpy but they fit so perfectly together.

I loved that Luca helped Ty when he was at his worst. As many times as Ty tried to push Luca away with training and started to get al in his head with everything. Luca was always there for Ty and to support him. Just like Ty was there to support Luca with his family issues. I loved how they both in the end achieved all their dreams and accepted that they were it for each other, they really completed each other’s lives.

“I’m glad you’re my family.” His hand lifts to the side of my face, and he presses his lips to mine in a soft kiss. “Moon and stars, Tiger.” “Moon and stars, Mitchell.”

Ty and Luca are still fighting to find a place in each others life and in fulfilling their dreams.
This is the continuation of the first book and it's a mix of hot and sweet moments. The only critique I have are the long fighting scenes that dragged on to long. At the end I just imagined they were in a position of a pretzel because I could not follow.
It was wonderful to see the way Ty came out of his shell. They still have this competitiveness, but it's intertwined with so much love.

Eve Holmes hit me HARD with the second part of Ty and Luca’s story in “Choke Hold.” When I closed the book on the first half of their story, I immediately wanted more — and more is what I got!

I love the dynamic between these two MMA fighters, the inner demons they face, how they bring out the best in each other, how supportive of their dreams they are. I mean I could go on and on. Their love is deep and intense and so sweet… even if Ty isn’t always that way. But Luca makes up for it with his baked goods (IYKYK 😉) Even though these two are together, Moon and Stars and all, they get into the ring and we’re transported back to the rivals to lovers aspect of their story. I loved having that switch!

Eve Holmes knows how to write a MMA sports romance yall so you’re going to want to check out this duet! Tyler and Luca are firey and full of tension and love. It’s truly addictive! If you’re looking for a good MM sports romance with a rivals to lovers storyline with a grumpy/sunshine pair of MCs, then this is the book for you! You will love their loyalty to one another!

Words cannot express how much I love Ty and Luca. In the first book, Hooks In, I fell in love with them and everything that they had to overcome to be themselves, healed, happy, and together. This book is the two of them amped up and fantastic.

This is absolutely a continuation of Hooks In. The characters, gym members, and family members are continuing through the story. Ty and Luca are progressing in both their cage fights/training and in their relationship. They continue to fight their demons, but really learn to lean on one another through it.

Luca is his sunshine self, and I found myself giggling sometimes at his statements and innuendos. But my heart also broke for him from time to time. I cheered for him and wanted to hug him.

Ty is his grumpy self, but his vulnerability was one of my favorite parts of this book. His strong, dominant personality was evident all through, but he was able to let some of those walls down and see the benefits that can come from that.

Watching these two men learn, grow, break, love and be successful was so wonderful. This duo/series has my heart.
