Exiled Vengeance: Gods of Basenia Book 1

Rate this book
The God of Vengeance suffers no fools. Unfortunately, this particular fool is rather stunning.

Eliana has heard the songs and warnings of the High Priests all her life; some gods must not be called. While her life has never been easy, a brutal assault at the hands of a guard leaves her willing to go to the ends of reality to exact her revenge… and with the help of some stolen artifacts, she knows just who to call.

Tirrik has been imprisoned so long that the millennia have begun to run together. To his surprise, the long-forgotten feeling of someone calling out to him echoes through his mind, but even he is unprepared when the all-too-familiar chains of his unearthly jail evaporate into the solid earth beneath his feet, and a terrified woman cowering before him.

When the ritual goes horribly wrong, Eliana is face to face with the freed God who is everything she wants… in more ways than one.

All she has to do is keep it together long enough to make them pay.

Can she convince a literal god to take her side without being consumed in the process? Before Eliana can convince Tirrik, she must convince herself.

About the author

Beatrice Keane

4 books10 followers
Beatrice Keane spent the vast majority of her teens and twenties hip-deep in demonology and ancient civilization mythos lore, wistfully wishing for a sexy devil to appear in her cramped apartment, showering her with demonic love and wealth. Unfortunately, that never happened, and she does not live in a lavish castle in the depths of hell. Instead, she lives happily with her (very human) husband, their (very human) child, and a (very human-like) cat somewhere in the Northeastern USA region.

She deeply despises the cold, and could be described as a southern gal who was unceremoniously dumped into the part of the country that actually has a winter season.

She loves highly-caffeinated beverages (ask her about “chaos coffee” sometime), homemade pasta, and daydreaming about owning a hobby farm. Her favorite animal is a chicken. Her favorite color is lavender. She doesn’t have a Starbucks order because she prefers the bougie local coffee shops, even though she can really only afford that once or twice a month. If she can swing it, though, she prefers an iced mocha with a triple shot, no whipped cream. Oh, and an everything bagel with egg and cheddar cheese, salt-pepper-ketchup.

🌶️🌶️ 2/5

First of all, a huge thank you to Beatrice Keane for an ARC of her amazing book (out on 8/1!).

Okay, so what I wasn't expecting was that this dark, sexy romance would change my life. You might ask how I decide a book gets 5 stars, those are the ones that I don't want to stop talking about to everyone/anyone who will listen (including a few who don't want to listen), and live rent-free in my mind for days/weeks/months after reading it. This is that.

So, this book features all of my favorite tropes and executed immaculately. Do you want a slow burn? This is the slowest, hottest burn. Do you love an alpha male, possessive, touch her and get unalived? You got it but he's also a super sexy, demon God who is emotionally available who worships her. Do you love a fantastical secondary world of magic? Done, but it also has unique Gods/Goddesses, other magical creatures, sorcery, witchcraft and spells. This is a dark romance but it has light, sweet, charming and comedic moments that balance out the narrative in the most sinfully perfect way.

Time to take a quick second to talk about the writing. THIS WRITING IS FLAWLESS. Beatrice, you are the GODDESS OF WRITING DARK ROMANCE. The unique character distinctions within the writing are just flawlessly executed. Tirrik's language is sexy and uniquely sophisticated, with a voice of his own that I've never encountered before. It 100% made this demon God unforgettable and it also really sold solid evidence of their age gap which made it real and much more appealing to read.

Eliana's character made me feel so many things all at once! Her character was such a beautiful juxtaposition of badass heroine and sensitive femininity. She is soft, caring and capable of showing deep, complex emotions. I love that she makes such classically human mistakes, overlooking rationality and then shows the strength and bravery to face, fix or fight them.

The chemistry is an outstandingly done aspect of this book. The spice is natural, effortlessly builds up slowly and is freaking SPICY AF. It is not overdone or excessively incorporated, it is just perfectly timed in exceptional moments that build onto the....ahem... climax. ;)

So, to reiterate. Read it. If you are looking for a new obsession that features a sexy-as-sin demon and human, dark romance story, you absolutely must read this novel. It has it all.

🖤 Exiled Vengeance by Beatrice Keane 🖤
✨ eARC Review ✨

Demons, Magic, and Obsession - oh my!!

Ok, when anyone thinks Romantasy FMC, MOST of the time, we think of them as being youthful — and typically in their late teens/early 20s. WHAT I LOVE in this book is Eliana is in her 30s — it’s just hard to relate to a 19 year old these days.

Oh, and the MMC, Tirrik, is a morally grey demon who may or may not have done shady shit previously… but you know, we love a well characterized MMC who does question things BECAUSE it’s well intentioned, right? Right?

Despite being a Romantasy story, large pockets of the text are relatable: recovering from trauma, questioning who is the right source of information, and unlikely friendships and kinships can be life changing.

Overall, the fantasy aspects of the story are streamlined, the world building isn’t overwhelming, and in full honesty, it was super easy to remember who people were and what roles they played throughout the novel. The voices of the characters are distinct, and the whole storyline clicks. For fans of ACOTAR and Disney’s Aladdin, you’ll really enjoy Beatrice’s writing and storytelling.

Would read again: Yes!
Would recommend: Yes - especially to people who don’t love anthology fantasy reads — this is whole and complete.
Spice: 🌶️ - and we love an FMC who claims “MINE” 👏🏻👏🏻

💕 Special thank you to Beatrice for including me on your ARC team for this read and trusting me with a copy of your book! 💕

I absolutely loved the characterization in this book! We have the God of Vengeance (🥵🦇) and a traumatized human, both of which have heavy, dark histories. However, Beatrice didn’t let that weigh down the story too much, and really helped you see the joy and levity those characters are still capable of, even in the face of their traumas. The side characters are also really lovable and allow other sides of the characters to come out, giving them even more dimension.

The Pantheon was an intriguing part of the story, and I loved how much we explored the “Night Dieties”. I also really loved the way she highlighted the way Justice and Vengeance are two sides of the same coin, but sometimes, the one you’d least expect is more fair and reasonable. Another way she does this is in her setting of the story. The two main settings are the city and the desert, but again, where you might expect life to thrive in one and whither in another, we watch as the truth is revealed and life and comfort is found in unlikely places.

If you love enemies to lovers, touch her and die, a rich tapestry of Gods and Goddesses, the exploration of fury and justice, coming alive again after trauma, and found family, you’ll love “Exiled Vengeance”!

Eliana and Tirrick are both endearing and entertaining. This book grabbed me right away and I immediately loved both of our MCs (main characters).

Tirrick's genuine glee at being freed and his attempts to ingratiate Eliana had me making heart eyes. He was genuine throughout the book and I absolutely adored him for it!

Eliana's rage was understandable and incredibly relatable. I loved seeing her grow through the story.

This book has a slower, laid back pace and I enjoyed getting to know the characters. The Sarkis and Hydra were delightful!

The slowww burn led to some nice spice! There was also plenty of action towards the end of the book. I loved the ending and the room that was left for the story to continue in book 2. I'm looking forward to it!

If you're a fan of paranormal romance, you'll love Exiled Vengeance!

Eliana is constantly mistreated and has decided that she needs to take a last minute resort, summon a god. Tirrik has been held in captivity and is finally free to enact this revenge.

Thank you Beatrice for letting me have an ARC.

This book really reminded me of the Invisible Life of Addie LaRue meets Court of Mist and Fury. It was a lot of fun to see the character development and watch them fall in love.

I really enjoyed the world building and I hope we get to learn more about it through the series.

This was an ARC for me and I really enjoyed it. The MMC, Tirrik is a dork. I mean he spent what, a forever amount, of time in a basically a prison with zero contact with any one so he's going to be cracked.
Our FMC Eliana is a frizzy haired gal who sort of fumbles around and is stubborn in a cute way. It's a fun book to read and isn't so heavy you're going to want to throw it out the window. There is a puppy and of course she responds as most of us would, she chases it. Spice was it's like a 2.

can’t wait for more

This was such a good book to pull me out of my 8 month reading slump 😅 the book was so hard to put down and I enjoyed it start to finish! I think my only “complaint” would be some of the details were a bit drawn out and done multiple times so it was a bit redundant like the explanation of the oasis, but nothing that killed the vibes for me just make it a bit slow in the beginning and a bit rushed at the end still though I really loved this book and look forward to more in the series!

This was fun to read

For a debut book, this was really good. It was light-hearted but still held some emotional depth. Eliana and Tirrik are quite a pair. She is grumpy to his sunshine, a black cat to his golden retriever. Even though Tirrik is the god of vengeance, he is a cinnamon roll for Eliana.

This is a good book to read when you want fun and light with a bit of villain gets the girl.

“Exiled Vengeance” is a lighter yet sweet dark fantasy romance that captivates with its engaging characters and compelling storyline. The protagonist, Eliana, is driven by fury, while Tirrik stands out as a perfect counterpart who worships her, creating a dynamic that is both intense and heartwarming. Their journey through trauma, questioning her beliefs, and forming unlikely kinships makes the story deeply relatable and moving.

Set in a magical world that is rich yet not overwhelmingly detailed, the story introduces unique gods and goddesses, adding a fresh twist to the genre. The writing is exceptionally smooth, making it an easy and enjoyable read. The romance is beautifully crafted with a well-paced build-up of spice, keeping readers hooked.

“Exiled Vengeance” includes popular tropes such as found family, enemies to lovers, touch her and die, he falls first, and slow burn. These elements are skillfully woven into the narrative, enhancing the overall experience. This book is a must-read for fans of dark fantasy romance who appreciate well-developed characters and a seamless blend of passion and adventure.

I was lucky to receive an ARC to this book from Beatrice Keane! I enjoyed it a lot as the setting was different from a lot of other fantasies on my TBR. The story was fast-paced and easy to get into.

I felt Tirrik fell a little too quickly for Eliana and he was a bit too cinnamon-rolly for my tastes. As a God of Vengeance, Eliana's fury exemplified it more than Tirrik's demeanor. I enjoyed reading about the other gods and goddesses.

Although the premise seemed like the book would be dark and gritty, I actually found it to be cute and whimsical, almost in a rom-com way.

Again, much thanks to Beatrice for letting me read this early! I look forward to more works in the future!

UM HELLO? MS. KEANE? I'M OBSESSED! Tirrik? How can a demon god be both adorable and fearsome? Eliana? GOALS. She's strong, she's fierce, she is vengeance! Tirrik and Eliana are a great balance for each other—they're not flawless characters, they have their weaknesses, but together they're a perfect set. The overall world and deity system is a fresh take on a fantasy world, and I am ENAMORED. Gods of Basenia 2? Sign me up. This is a great read for anyone who loves a fantasy OR romance.

Exiled Vengeance by Beatrice Keane is the first book in her Gods of Basenia series. The story follows Eliana, a human girl that has had enough of her struggles and Tirrik, the god of vengeance that has been imprisoned for a thousand years.

I didn’t read the synoptic again before starting this book, so I went in pretty blind and found myself enjoying the story a lot quicker than I thought I would. I really enjoyed the story being written from their two different points of view. Even though the themes are quite dark, it really was written in a way that I found wasn’t disheartening.

The banter, the side characters (I especially love Vol and Tal), the worlds… I enjoyed it all.

The author chose to tell this story in one book, so the book was fast paced and quick and I found I really liked it. Even though there’s a second book, it will be following a different character’s story.

I was actually surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. It’s a quick and fun read.
