Trash the Dress

Rate this book
One woman’s trashed dress is another man’s gift.
Scarlett Shepard knows something is off. With her wedding day fast approaching, she chalks it up to nerves. But when her fiancé’s mistress stands up and objects at the ceremony, the wedding is definitely off.
Before she can get herself out of the church, her gaze connects with Zander Bailey, her grumpy but hot photographer hired by the groom’s family. Much to her surprise, he follows her outside with a proposal of his own.
A photoshoot—to trash her dress.
Accepting his offer, she tries to remain lighthearted in the wake of the heartbreak weighing her down, and suddenly this fun distraction turns into a not-so-innocent night of passion between them.
Weeks later, when what Scarlett believed to be food poisoning turns out to be a surprise neither of them expected, they are both forced to reconcile their past and their own jaded hearts to become parents.
Scarlett won’t accept Zander’s affection out of obligation or a sense of duty, which forces him to face a deep-rooted fear he hasn’t vocalized—his love not being enough.
Can Scarlett and Zander choose love when there are three hearts at stake?

Trash the Dress is a standalone. Grumpy/sunshine vibes. Surprise pregnancy. Happily-ever-after.

There's always a little trepidation for me when I try a new-to-me author. There's a chance the story won’t deliver, or there's a chance I’ll love it, but you never know which way it will go. Fortunately, this one delivered beautifully, and I couldn’t get enough of Scarlett and Zander.

Here's a pro tip. When the wedding photographer offers to help you trash your wedding dress after you've just been jilted, maybe say no, unless you want an extra wedding present. This is where Scarlett Shepard finds herself. Now she's having a baby with her one night stand, Zander Bailey, a man who swore he could never love again.

Zander has an excellent reason for being soured on love. He was in a similar situation as Scarlett five years ago, and sees a kindred spirit in her. When he finds her sitting alone by the lake in her dress, his suggestion takes an awful experience and helps Scarlett find a little sunshine in the storm. It's a profound experience for them both, and if anyone could melt Zander's ice-cold heart, it would be Scarlett.

This one is so well written and I flew through it in one sitting. I loved the ups and downs and especially the healing of heartbreak. Zander and Scarlett are both vulnerable and authentic, and they work so hard for their happily ever after. With small-town charm, loveable secondary characters, and a mean girl you'll love to hate, Scarlett and Zander's road to forever has the perfect blend of elements to make it an epic romance read.

This book took my by the biggest surprise. Not only was I not expecting the ARC but I was also not expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. This book was so beautifully written between the heartache they both have encountered in their life to the joy they brought each other.

Now you never expect the day you find out that your finance is cheating on you to actually find out while you’re standing at the alter. I don’t know who thought that would be a good idea but that bitch deserved to get a good slap across the face. Oh wait 😏

That sounds awful but having the wedding photographer trash the dress with you, now that’s something I can get on board with. Especially when he offers to help you forget for a night. Double yes.

Things take a huge turn when a one night stands begins to start growing tiny little legs and arms. Now he didn’t know this baby was what he was truly looking for but the news of the baby has opened both their hearts to something much bigger than they could ever imagine. The growth they capture together to repair their hearts was beautiful.

Not every book can be all oohs and awe’s. Of course there had to be a crazy bitch in the mix but let me tell you, she got what she deserved. Zander and Scarlett were a perfect match no later what obstacles came between them. I absolutely loved this book and I am so grateful I got to ARC read it!

Scarlett finding out her fiancée has been cheating on her during the wedding ceremony should have been the worst thing to ever happen to her. But, in a roundabout way, it was really the best, because it brought her Zander, and later, the beautiful product of that night. But at the same time, it's not going to be easy because Zander's experienced the same kind of betrayal as she has, and his heart has been closed off ever since.

Even though she's just been given devastating news, Zander can't help but see the sunshine in her sad eyes, and he's drawn to her, drawn to that light, in a way he's not sure he ever has been before. And now, because of that fascination, they're going to be in each other's lives, forever. It will be up to Zander to decide if he can open up his frozen heart enough to love again. If he can't, they'll remain civil "friends." But if he can, the future will be very sunshiney indeed.

Aww these two! I just wanted to hug them both - so scarred with so much hurt still left inside their hearts. Thankfully they found each other, and took a precarious, but ultimately, fulfilling journey that ended so sweetly. I haven't read anything by this author before, but I can definitely say I'm a very big fan now. Scarlett and Zander's story is such a heartfelt journey of healing, learning to trust again, and forming a beautiful family with a timeless kind of love.

This was a little bit of a let down after a very strong start. I was completely sold on the book after Scarlett's wedding fell apart but like the potential marriage, the book started to fall apart from there on as well. The problem came from everything feeling just a little undone.

Scarlett and Zander have their one night stand which results in the accidental pregnancy (one of my favorite tropes) and that's when the mountains of miscommunications and lies of omission start. I enjoy the miscommunication trope. It's toxic and realistic (sorry, but regular adults don't know how to talk to people all the time, not every human is perfect.) One of the biggest issues I had was that Zander had 5 years after his heartbreak to settle into whatever unhealthy coping mechanisms he was going to use, which happened to be just not believing in love. Scarlett's heartbreak was weeks old and she hadn't done anything to deal with it other than moving back into her apartment and sleeping once with her wedding photographer.

So every time he got bent out of shape about her not believing that he was serious about being all in with her really got to a point of irritation. Like, grow up, man. And maybe it was just all the outside forces that made it too much. We had Eric (Scarlett's ex) saying awful things and trying to reconcile, Vivian (Zander's ex) saying awful things and trying to reconcile, and all the miscommunications between two people that just refused to talk things out. Couple all that with stilted and overly dramatic dialogue and I just started to feel my interest wilt away.

The plot is specifically focused on the relationship building between Zander and Scarlett. It was well enough written but it did feel like there were loose threads that were left hanging for too long, only to be wrapped up at the end just to avoid plot holes. The biggest one would be Scarlett's parents and their reactions. They gave her grief about the pregnancy and then we didn't really hear much about them until around the 3rd act climax. It lacked the impact that it could have had because it was so half done. Overall, though, the book is good. It's dramatic, fairly toxic, and a quick read, just not a book for me.

I'm at that point in my reading schedule where I honestly can't afford to add more titles to it, but I saw a post regarding Trash the Dress on social media, and my curiosity got the better of me. Yep, I read this grumpy/sunshine, surprise pregnancy standalone from a new-to-me author, A.B. Medley, and while it's a companion novel to Medley's Finding the Truth series, I was able to fully understand what was going on with the main characters and their story without necessarily feeling like I'd missed any vital information. So, if you're like me and you're considering diving into Medley's writing, this is as good a place to start.

Scarlett Shepard (27) is an interior designer who calls off her wedding after her groom's mistress lets everyone in attendance know exactly what he's been doing in the months leading to what was supposed to be the happiest day of his and Scarlett's lives. Many were there to witness the fiasco, including Zander Bailey (33), a former photographer turned bar owner who agreed to take wedding photos as a favor. He knew all too well what betrayal and the revelation of it on your wedding day looked like. He's there to console Scarlett, suggesting a different kind of photo shoot than they'd planned on--a pictorial featuring her trashing her wedding dress. That leads to these two sharing one night together before going their separate ways. Only it looks like fate, by way of an unplanned pregnancy, wants them tied for far longer.

Trash the Dress was an emotional romance that held a lot of promise. The first few chapters definitely caught my attention, what with Scarlett going through feelings of heartbreak and humiliation and then the aftermath of the cancelled nuptials, climaxing with her hook-up with Zander and then the realization that they were going to be parents. There was angst and drama, all of it peppered with a handful of lighthearted moments. I make no secret of my love for angsty reads, but I must admit that this had more than its fair share of emotional situations, a lot of which the main characters could have hurdled with open communication. There were also a tendency to "tell" rather than "show", but still a 3.5-starred read.

I’ve heard of trashing the dress before, but it generally happens after the wedding has taken place and it’s a part of the celebrations. This Trash the Dress was the idea of photographer Zander when Scarlett jilted her fiancé at the altar after his girlfriend’s ‘uninvited’ presence in the church had exposed his cheating. Since Zander felt a twinge of sympathy for Scarlett, to cheer her up he suggested the unusual photoshoot to help her vent her anger but before either could say ‘I don’t’ they’d leapt into bed together only for there to be unforeseen consequences of the nine-month variety.

This was a lighthearted, standalone romance that a fantastic flow to the writing and came with a novel theme. The characters were well rounded and engaging with a villain readers will just love to see get what’s coming to them. I loved the hero and heroine, Zander and Scarlett. Initially when they met there was a grumpy/sunshine vibe going on between them until the aftermath of the wedding that never was, and it then it became a bit more grumpy/grumpy. They had broken hearts in common with Zander’s fiancée having run off with his so-called best friend, so both were gun shy when it came to matters of the heart but with the imminent arrival of their baby, they had to at least try to trust one another. To add a little angst to the story, when Scarlett is heavily pregnant and at her most vulnerable, Zander’s past comes back into town with a vengeance, but this could be the impetus they need to face their fears.

We enjoyed Zander and Scarlett's story even though the story begins on a sad note loved how Zander tried to make that horrible day better in some way and in our eyes he did just that.

The story tended to be a bit frustrating at times especially where Scarlett was coming from the push and pull between the characters started to get old fast. Both characters are damaged and gunshy from having had not-so-good past relationships betrayals being a big part of them but, at some point, you have to move on and it only seems that Zander is the one to do that. Did he have reservations, yes but, we felt once he decided to be all in he was all in whereas Scarlett's choices were always flip-flopping around her insecurites getting the best of her.

The characters had awesome chemistry they fit well together and were hot and sexy. We felt both characters we brutally honest in their feelings the story tended to be emotional and had its highs and lows. The characters could not be more different but, loving the right person heals the soul, mind, and body and that is exactly what happens when you are finally ready to let go of the baggage of one's past..

This story was a journey of healing and love and perhaps fate but, this couple's road to happiness is not always smooth sailing as the couple's pasts come back to haunt them. We were rooting for this couple's happily ever after hoping their love was strong enough to survive the storm they both found themselves in.

Trash The Dress has some of my favorite tropes; surprise pregnancy, grumpy sunshine with a dash of forced proximity and I'm in! Even knowing all that, I was not expecting to enjoy this book as much as I did.

Scarlett and Zander are just wonderful. He's a grumpy, cynical former photographer who lost his muse after a heartbreak. She's an excited bride-to-be who suddenly understands Zander a lot more than she ever hoped to.

Throw in a failed wedding, a cathartic photo shoot and BAM, these two are tossed together for one roller coaster of a ride! I loved Zander so much, the way he pushed past his fears and worries and stepped up made him perfect book boyfriend material.

Scarlett was a solid heroine, tough and sweet and ready to take on the world for her little one. There were some parts of her that I could do without but overall I liked her character. There were more religious overtones than I expected but it didn't get in the way of the story.

This story was an emotional journey and both Scarlett and Zander grew a lot from the beginning of the story which is always appreciated.

Scarlett has to call off her wedding at the alter after her fiancé’s mistress objects at the ceremony. Little does she know, the photographer will save the day with an offer. He wants to take photos of her as she trashes her dress. What starts as a moment of catharsis turns in to something more as they both fall into each other’s arms. What follow is a surprise pregnancy and two people who are navigating devastating heartbreaks in emotional ways.

This books was everything!! It has other woman drama, a surprise pregnancy, some family drama, two broken people trying to heal and at the heart of the story is catharsis and how that comes about in interesting ways. What I loved about this book is that even though there was a lot of angst and misunderstandings, the two main characters were clearly doing their best. They challenged each other in ways that I didn’t expect based on the premise of this book - in the best way. I read a lot and I read a lot of good books, but this book is so much more. It’s a gem. This book should be a preorder and on your “real” TBR list (IYKYK).

Thanks to Give Me Books PR for the opportunity to read the fantastic ARC.

My heart was completely invested within the first couple of chapters and dedicated to finishing in one setting because I had to see how these two found a way together. Scarlett handled the betrayal FAR better than I could have even imagined. Really shows a lot about her character! Then Zander encourages her to let the anger, disappointment, and betrayal go by trashing her dress. He has been burned, too, so he was in a prime position to help her find release.

But Zander was holding onto his own demons without fully realizing it. And I absolutely adored how their time together (and the little surprise!) forces both Scarlett and Zander to find true healing. The connection was strong and helped them personally grow and learn how to trust one another for love and support. Zander steps up to the plate in a big way, proving that he is a man worthy.

My heart feels incredibly happy and full after reading this book — which is exactly what I want a romance novel to do. It makes you believe that even the most unexpected surprises can be the biggest blessings of healing that you needed!

Scarlett is about to get married to her long term boyfriend, and she's starting to feel some red flags. Turns out she was right about those since her future husband's mistress objects at the actual ceremony so she's out. Zander is a man who got hurt badly by the woman he thought he loved, so these days, there's not about to be any sort of relationship plus, it took some people a long time to talk him into taking pics at Scarlett's wedding. He knows he's right when she runs out, and he has a great idea to trash her dress & it leads them to having a super hot hookup. That day led to a party favor of epic proportions so both of them have to face that past in order to co-parent. These two are perfect for each other, and yet their past definitely played a big part in them having some serious issues on the way to a possible future together. Will they finally put the past in the past? I can't tell you but I will say this story had all the feels to it so I couldn't get enough! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Trash the Dress by A.B. Medley was a cute read! I enjoyed the concept of this book and was very happy with how it turned out. The town was adorable, the characters were sweet, and it just felt like a nice cozy read. Who doesn't love a small-town romance with a grumpy sunshine trope?! Congratulations on your release, A.B., and great job!

In this book, we have our FMC, Scarlett. She's a jilted bride who finds out that her soon-to-be husband is a no-good cheater, and after the fallout from their almost wedding day, she's ready to trash the dress. Then we have our MMC, Zander. He is the grumpy wedding photographer who reluctantly did the wedding because love had previously burned him. However, after our bride ran out of the church, he decided he wanted to help her get her mind off what just happened... which happened to be the Trash the Dress photoshoot. One thing leads to another, and we see our two jilted characters come together after being hurt by past lovers.

Scarlet is looking forward to her happily forever to the man she thought was her everything. Until her wedding day. Zander hasn’t taken a photograph in 5 years, not since his own disastrous wedding. He doesn’t believe in love or anything happy now. When he presents Scarlet with an idea to trash her wedding dress and take photos of the process, she is ready to try and forget everything that had just happened in that church. Photos in the lake behind the church and then using paint to trash it further, she asks Zander for one more thing, one night. As these two work through the pain that they carry, the little wedding present Zander gave her that evening becomes the most important thing. I need to say, they have massive insecurities and maybe more of that falls on Scarlet more as her being jilted is a lot more recent. They both have to learn patience with each other and themselves as not everything delivers a smooth road ahead for them. What I do like the most is that Zander really does a great job and showing Scarlet that he is all in, even when her self-doubt is extra high.

This was a new author for me so I wasn't sure what to expect but I loved the storyline. This was a fun new plot I haven't read before but I've seen people do trash the dress photoshoots before and always loved the idea! Zander has been burned by someone that was supposed to love him before, so when Scarlett is jilted at her wedding, he steps in to save the day and suggests a trash the dress shoot. But things up end up being more intimate than they had planned which leads to a life change for Zander and Scarlett. But Zander's past come back to haunt him and Scarlett. Overall I really enjoyed this book and read it in a whole setting because I didn't want to put it down!

Trash the Dress is a quite a fun and easy read. Scarlett and Zanders journey is borne out of tradegy, when Scarlett finds out he fiance has cheated on her at her wedding and her photographer, Zander, also hurting after his girlfriend cheated on him, offers to do a Trash the Dress photo shoot.

Two broken hearted people, come together in a way that's aimed at Scarlett letting go of some of anger but makes Zander realise he still has to heal himself. But, they find out they have more than just cheating fiance's in common. Underneath the hurt, they have a steamy chemistry which leads to more than a photoshoot and the creation of a surprise bundle, due to be delivered in nine months time.

Scarlett and Zanders journey started out as two people sharing a common heartbreak but is one of healing, learning to love again. There are steamy and funny moments throughout this enjoyable story.

I really enjoyed the book and will definitely read the author’s other books. I felt like I could have done without the pet names being overly used with the best friend and by Zander, but it didn’t take away from my overall enjoyment of the book.

I think what I liked best was for the most part it felt like a real story. The only part that felt unrealistic to me was Zander communicating his feelings with his words so well because I have rarely experienced or heard of a real life man do that but it was nice to read about, lol.

I would definitely recommend this book. I won’t be loaning my copy out though since I love that it’s signed by the author, but would definitely buy a copy of to gift to a friend. ❤️

My first story by this author and I was really captured from the start and totally invested till the end🥰

I loved how Scarlett dealt with her fall out from her almost wedding. She really impressed me. But then I got so annoyed with her when she was so indecisive with her growing relationship with Zander.

Zander was freaking awesome. He had so many insecurities too, but from the moment he found out about the baby he did everything he could to make Scarlett know that he was all in.

Totally loved the story and loved the characters. It was definitely a story that had me hooked from the start to the end🥰

This is my first read by this author, and I must say that I quite enjoyed the storyline and the characters. It is a grumpy vs sunshine, small town romance between jilted bride Scarlett and photographer Zander. These flawed characters are likeable, the connection strong, and the unique plot makes for an entertaining read. What starts out as a one night stand turns into something more. It is a captivating love story with drama and steam, sexual tension and chemistry, humor and charm, and appealing secondary characters. An engaging page turner with all the feels.

I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book from Grey's Promotions and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

This is Scarlett and Zander’s story.
Scarlett finds out as she stands at the altar, that her fiancé has been cheating on her, and Zander, who is the photographer hired, follows her out of the church with his own proposal.
This is a good story which is an easy to read, emotional roller coaster, with family, friendships, heartbreak, betrayal, trust, grumpy / sunshine, opposites, healing, surprises, humor, witty banter, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an enjoyable, sweet, and heartfelt, small town romance.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

Oh my!!! I loved how this book started. A bride finding out the man who she’s marrying was cheating on her. Now a decision needs to be made. Forgive him or run like hell. Zander watches everything as it unfolds. He truly doesn’t want Scarlet to go through what he did so he gets her out of there. That 1 action puts both of their lives on a different track. Love story with a couple meant to be together.

I would give Trash the Dress 4.5 stars because even though I enjoyed most of it, I felt like some points were just trying to keep the book going. This is a new to me author so maybe I’m just not used to their writing style. I love the storyline and how a wedding gone wrong ends up being the 1st step towards a future for Scarlett & Zander. They both have their insecurities due to their past experiences and are both kind of stubborn. I would give it 🌶️🌶️ on the spice rating. There is drama of course but they get their HEA.- Elizabeth

This book is one of my favorites of the series from A. B. Medley! The story of Zander and Scarlett was one that kept me wanting more. After they had both been burned badly by their ex's you have to root for everything to work out for them both. They have their problems, but the love and attraction between them takes over and they can't fight it! This book was a hard one to put down. The ending has a surprise I wasn't expecting! Love will usually always prevail!! I definitely recommend this book and look forward to the next one in the near future from A. B. Medley!!

Zander is the photographer the grooms family has hired … he comes up with a plan . Let’s do a photo shoot to trash the dress after the heartbreak !

After a one night stand , their union begins to grow … in the form of a surprise baby . This child is exactly what Zander didn’t know he was missing .

This was so cute! I’ve never read anything by A.B. Medley so I was a little nervous but I shouldn’t have been. Medley wrote such a sweet story of two jaded people finding love again and I enjoyed every minute of it. I’m also a sucker for a grumpy sunshine story and I think that the idea of trashing the dress is just so fun and creative! If you’re looking for a cute read scoop this book up and enjoy Scarlett & Zander!

Finished this book with a smile on my face

Zander and Scarlett were meant to be and never would have thought it. The universe sometimes brings people together and there is not a thing you can do to stop it. Fate or destiny or Devine intervention. I have read all of A B Medleys books and I have to say this was my favorite. Loved them all but this was special. Won’t spoil the story for others but happily ever afters are always the best.

sadly for me, i didn't like the book. the concept is good but the execution wasn't well thought of. neither of the MCs are likeable, their feelings or thoughts were kind of repetitive throughout the book. and they just felt very one-dimensional to me. even with the hero's ex coming back to stir drama shit, even the drama was kind of an eye-roll, maybe a little "flimsy", not sure how to describe.

but overall, i didn't enjoy reading it and wouldn't be reading anything from this author again.

One bad event turns into a lifetime of happiness for both Scarlett and Zander. From acquaintances, to one night stand to a surprise baby, Zander and Scarlett find their way as individuals and as a couple. Their path was mired with barbs but they were able to come through to the other side as a unit. This was a good read and a page turner.
