I have finally achieved my childhood dream. Playing in the NHL. And to top it all off, I get to enjoy this new venture with my lifelong friend. Everything is perfect until he is gone and my past returns to haunt me and my thoughts. Without Josh Volkov to lean on, I turn to the only other person that I think I can trust, Ian Hammonds. These two men may make me feel safe and my heart flutter, but am I enough reason for them to battle my past with me?
Hockey Romance - ✅ Female Hockey Player-✅ Spice- ✅ Twists-✅
I love the world that K. Renee has created! Sara is an absolute fire cracker!🧨 Ian is so sweet and caring but also dominate when needed! Josh is a big ol'teddy bear!! 🧸 I love the friendship and relationship the three of them share. Sara, Ian and Josh's way of openly speaking about topics that most find hard to discuss is so refreshing. The dynamic between the three of them is fire!🔥🔥 The supportive camaraderie of everyone player/coach on the Mercy team is something everyone should have! 💚🖤
If I could give this more than 5 stars I would. This went straight up to the top of my favorite books list. I devoured it. We won’t discuss that I literally read the whole book in one sitting. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this book. It makes me even more excited for the rest of the series and anything else K. Renee writes. Just read it! You won’t be disappointed!!!
My first ever hockey romance and I’m obsessed! It even made me want to watch hockey irl 😂 but Ian is just so sweet while also being pretty weird/awkward in the best way. I love the way Josh cares for Sara and visa versa. Everything about the story is just amazing and draws you in! Also love momma Otterman even though she only plays a small part 💜 there’s some spice, funny, aggressive, loving, protectiveness, hockey, and not one but 2 amazing men for the FMC. Everything that makes a good hockey romance! Highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the rest of the series to come out!
This book was written so well, I loved it.. The story was so good Sara aka mfc is a Hockey player she’s amazing, I loved everything about her character, and the 2 mmc are just gorgeous, protective and also hockey players, the relationship between the 3 is beautiful. This book was gripping, intense and will have you feeling so many different emotions.. This is a why choose and has a nice bit of spice too! Can’t wait to read more from this author🖤🖤
pros: I was entertained the entire time and the intimate scenes were pretty well done.
cons: This reads like the fanfiction I read when I was 12.
Look, some of the most profound and devastating writing I’ve encountered has been indie or self published, and some of the traditionally published books I’ve read have been hot garbage. That being said, maybe sometimes there’s a reason a book doesn’t get picked up for trad pub.
I’ll try not to be overly harsh here, but this genuinely felt like a first or second attempt at writing a story. None of the writing was smooth, the dialogue was clumsy and unnatural, and a lot of the details felt unrealistic. I wish I could say Sara being a woman being in the NHL was the most unrealistic part of the novel, but I had to suspend my disbelief so many times throughout this.
Some personal pet peeves of mine, *especially* in published novels, is name dropping and pop culture references. It takes me out of the story as well as dates it. I’m all for authors putting in their personal playlists in the beginning or end of the book (in fact I LOVE it), but at no point do I ever want to know the entire playlist one of the characters queues up for a drive. One song (“Vicious by Bohnes”) was brought up ten times, five of those times being accompanied by the band name. We get it, it’s your favorite song. Another pet peeve I have is when things are listed out so plainly, especially when it doesn’t matter. This is “feels like a teenager on wattpad wrote it” to me. For example, “I was wearing such and such” and “my pizza had this and this on it, and his pizza had such and such on it.” Seriously, at one point it listed every single ingredient each of the two characters in the scene had on their own pizzas. Why is this important? What does that contribute other than word count? The dialogue was also extremely unnatural, like I mentioned previously. Unless you’re still learning english, you’re probably going to use contractions more often than not. Sure, there are instances where you’re gonna use “do not” instead of “don’t” for emphasis, but the amount of times we had “will not, do not, I have had,” etc. instead of their shorter, more common versions stood out so much that it took me out of the story. Plus, a lot of the things the characters said to each other just didn’t sound like things people say in real life.
Another gripe, and I say this with zero speculation on the author’s sexuality, is that it feels like it was written by a straight person. The way Josh and Ian talked about their queerness felt unnatural to me.
Also, somewhat unrelated, but i know they’re strong hockey players and all, but if Ian is a big buff hockey player, why is Josh constantly picking him up and slinging him over his shoulder? Why were there multiple times where Josh picked up Ian AND Sara and slung them both over his shoulders? Why are people always being picked up?? And why is there so much damn crying in this book??? I’m not saying people can’t have emotions but ohmygod everyone was crying all the fucking time. Sara was crying every other damn chapter. Ian wasn’t much better. Stop crying ohmygod.
My last gripe (because frankly I’m just ripping this book apart at this point, sorry) is somewhat spoilery. If a police officer is bringing you letters found in a jail cell, why would you feel like the letters would be laced? Why did the letters actually end up being laced?? Any evidence would’ve already gone through testing before being given to a family member. I’m not even into true crime or anything like that but even to me that was so unrealistic.
I think with some honing of her craft, this author can write something great. Like I said, I was entertained the whole time and the sex scenes were hot. I just think maybe she didn’t have a fanfiction/fictionpress/wattpad phase early on enough to get that extra practice in.
This just wasn't it for me. Everything felt unrealistic and I feel there was no need for suspense in this. I am really sad by this because I love hockey romance, mmf, and takes place in my home state.
K originally I had 2 stars but after further thought this barely receives a 1.
There was absolutely no reason for the father part of the story to happen. It was poorly done overall and literally did not make sense. Also the reasons why the dad's accomplices were involved, the most childish and dumbest reason I have ever read in a book.
I am extremely disappointed in this because I love MMF and poly relationships in my sports romance, but I think since Emily Rath everyone is trying to write similarly, but can't because they are not the same author.
Also why was Volkov IMMEDIATELY dominant with both Sara and Ian like right away?! That is not how typical dom/sub relationships work, I mean they didn't even establish a safe word before he and Sara got together. He told her what her safe word was during. Which is not okay to me.
I will not be reading more from this author unless maybe it's a bit further down the road. I think some of the writing style was a bit immature and that's not my thing.

If you are looking for a why choose hockey romance with bits of mafia-ish elements, then this is absolutely the book for you!! Hat Tricks is a FMM novel where we meet Sara, Josh, and Ian, three NHL players (yes a female NHL star!) who play on the same team and each have untold feelings for each other. We get to watch their story unfold with some twists and turns along the way. The way Sara, Josh, and Ian care for and support each other while starting their relationship and going through some HUGE life events is *chefs kiss*. Although the book is over 400 pages, I found myself flying through the pages trying to see what happens next!
The way K. Renee incorporated music into so many parts of this story was like a giant hug to my music-loving heart. I also loved the definitions and roster pages!
This was a great read and I would recommend it if you’re into the aforementioned tropes.
This was my first ever hockey romance and I’m OBSESSED! I’m out here forgetting to eat reading this BOOK.
Okay I enjoyed the whole Ian, Josh, and Sara relationship but what I really enjoyed that everything wasn’t quick the story progressed so well and I thought it was a quick romance book.
Seriously didn’t see Josh parents helping Sara’s dad (that was messed up) to kill them.
This book gave me everything in a story that progressed and I can visualize in my head, spicy romance, conflict/action, psycho parents.
LOVED IT!

Do you want a story that has 3 hot ass hockey players with one of them being the fmc? How about the fact that one of the men being her childhood best friend whilst the other is her teammate who she’s had her eye on for a while. You follow our girl Sara on her journey of learning to be able to trust and love again when she swore off relationships, but what happens when sparks fly with her teammate Ian, but Josh her life long best friend who she has been in love with since they were kids admits he feels the same? This book is absolutely delicious, from beginning to end it is perfection🖤
This is a MMF hockey romance with some mafia vibes in there too. All three of the main characters are in the NHL, yes! The FMC is also one of the hockey players in the NHL which I really enjoyed. I loved watching these three admit their feelings and fall for each other. The banter was great, I adored the dynamic of the main 3 and loved the other team members being supportive as well!
“The three of us fit together like a fucked up jigsaw puzzle, the jagged edges of our souls meeting to form one picture.”
Okay….excuse the heck out of me??? If you haven’t read this, you need to like -NOW- This was an amazing read, and explored a beautiful, growing polyamorous relationship. Set in the NHL world with one of the players being female (heck yeah!) the characters find themselves all drawn to each other, wanting more than a friendship with each other but nervous above taking those steps. Sprinkled in was some drama that I did not see coming, and it really had me sitting on the edge of my seat. The author did an amazing job bringing these characters to life, it all felt so realistic and I didn’t want it to end. The author has an addicting writing style that makes you want to keep reading. I absolutely loved this read! Would read it again and recommend this to anyone who loves a steamy sports romance.
I could not put this book down!!! I'm still in my hockey romance era, and what's better than a why choose where our FMC is on the team?!? This book was an emotional roller coaster, but had an ending that was just perfect. I can't wait to read the rest of the series and see the team again.
Anyway, back to the book. Sarah, Ian, and Josh are such precious babies, that you can't help but love them and fall into their stories (hence my not being able to put it down and reading it in a day lol). You get to see into each of their lives and backstories as well as see more of the hockey sport than in some hockey romances.
So if hockey romance and why choose tropes are your thing like mine, then RUN, don't walk to read this book!!
I'm a sucker for a hockey romance but add in why choose and I'm all over it! This book had me squirming, laughing out loud and rooting for the characters to get together. I so appreciated the humour, the play list. The care that each of them show for each other. Sarah's take no shit attitude is refreshing to read. lan's need to be loved makes you want to hug him. Josh's protectiveness will make you melt. The spicy also doesn’t hurt *winky face* Put this one on your TBR asap.
Ya know most books that are sports themed (most not all) are light on the sport of choice and heavy on the um.. spice. But I have to say Hat Tricks balanced both so well! It was such an easy read I barely noticed how fast I read it until it was over! I love a strong fmc and Sara fits that to a T while still being able to have emotions and draw strength from her men!
I’m kind of at a loss for words… that was my first MMF book and damn 🔥 if the thought of one hockey player brooding over you wasn’t enough then two ought to do it!! 😮💨 The relationship between the three characters is just beautiful and the spice 🥵 hot damn. I loved how they all developed throughout the book and the twist OMG I was not expecting that!! @k.renee_books job well done 👏🏼 Thank you for an incredible read and the brand new playlist 😉
I stay up until 4 a.m. reading this book!! I ate it up. It's so so so good!!! It's such an emotional roller coaster that I was laughing, tearing up and straight out shocked by the end of the book. Sara is such an amazing soul who had to deal with a lot of problems, but with Ian and josh, she got through everything.
This was such a good read. I loved getting to see all the POV's of our amazing couple. This book was fast pace and kept me invested the whole time I was reading.
One of the things I loved most was seeing from all sides how much the characters cared about one another. I'm very invested in this series and can't wait to see what happens in the next book
Most definitely a short read. This author knows her Hockey. I do not. The team took care of eachother and Protected their star team mate. You will not believe the plot twists. It kept me Guessing. Josh, Sara and Ian made quite the team.
Hat Tricks by K Renee is a why choose sports romance novel. Ice hockey is one of my favorite sports so it was easy to slide right into this book. The plot was exciting with an ice hockey background. It includes a female ice hockey player. That alone makes for an intriguing plot line. Throw in great character development with a why choose romance and you have one inters story. Sara is a NHL player (would that not cool) and has achieved a dream of hers.josh is on the team as well and her best friend. Ian is also on the team. Over time these three create an interesting relationship. It is spicy, sweet, complicated and just well perfect for them. This book was so good. I really enjoyed reading it and can wait for more from this author
MMF Hockey romance with a mafia vibes subplot. A badass female mc who is blazing the trail as the first female hockey player in the NHL, love to see it. I mean one of the mmc’s does a buddy read with her and he doesn’t break spines or dog ear pages so he’s a waving green flag to me!
This is not the first hockey romance I have read and it will definitely NOT be the last. I’m already looking forward to the next books of this series!
The dynamics between not only the three main characters in this book, but also their teammates was phenomenal. We love good communication and support!
My one critique is that there were several references to songs that I did not know and I didn’t like that for me to understand I would have had to look up the lyrics or listen to the song. I did not do this and I just kept reading, so I do feel like there’s a few jokes/lines I didn’t get because of this.
Female hockey player and two male hockey players embark on a relationship. Why should Sara choose? She doesn't have to. It's intense and gripping. A good read.
AMAZING!! That’s all I can say I couldn’t put it down. I loved how it was fast paced but not too fast, loved the characters and storyline. It was perfect. I can’t wait to read the rest in the series
I absolutely loved this book! It’s got a ton of hockey aspects to it (game-wise), a tough female character, because how else would she be able to handle the tough hockey guys on other teams, and a team who has her back when she goes through rough patches. I love best friends to lovers tropes and this book is just another reason why they’re one of my favorite tropes!
Freaking loved it. It has spicyness, it has hockey, it has building a trouple, it has a badass FMC and 2 cute big boys that treat her like a queen and put her needs above anything without forgetting themselves in the process. Amazing support team for all of them and it has nice plottwists that kept me on my toes throughout the book. Can't wait for the rest of the stories to come!
K.Renee did an amazing job with this book. It has everything you could want. It's a RH where each one finds each other.
Sarah and Josh grew up together and have a WHOLE lot of sexual tension between the 2 and they end up on the same hockey team. Sarah being on the denfisive line and Josh being the goalie. Add in the co-captain Ian and wow the steam.
This book will take you on an emotional Rollercoaster and it doesn't stop the way K. Renee uses music in her books as a way to let feeling out is something I think every one can relate to.
