Emmy & Jason Emmy has penned the book Celebrity Crush, based on her real crush, but never names who he is until she's on a talk show and forced to. Then they get to know each other a bit, there's some deception, a big secret that takes her ages to tell him because she knows it's bad, no communication and stalker vibes. All that seems like something I'd read in YA.
I really didn't like how it was so obvious that Emmy was using his status to build up sales for her book. And her agent was really pushing it to happen. Jason is not all sunshine himself. They're both pretty immature and I was not buying into their chemistry, since it really seemed to just be based on their looks. And don't even get me started on Jason's ex wife. Can't say I really liked any of the characters really.
There were some funny moments and although I am not a Tik Toker I did like how she did dances with her daughter. Overall a good bit annoyed me, but I liked a few parts, too, so middle of the road with my rating. Oh and her repetitive line "thank god and Tom Hanks' was grating to my ears.
Narration notes: Fun fact ~ Andrew is actually Teddy Hamilton, which is a very popular narrator. I wonder why he goes by 2 names? Anyway, he does great, as usual. Stephanie was fine, too. Her voices seemed spot on for the 2 podcasters, but cringy too with they high pitched giggling.
This book had me giggling, kicking my feet and genuinely questioning why these characters were allowed in public without supervision, let alone on a live broadcasted tv show. This was cute, funny and had a lottt of fake dating drama, but I’m knocking off a star because the immaturity was wild. Like please… why were they acting like they just discovered feelings yesterday? Still a fun, easy read that kept me entertained the whole way through. And huge thank you to my bestie Kendall for buying me this book, you stay feeding my addiction🤝
Celebrity Crush by Christy Swift Emily Ellison is a romance author and on her way up the New York Times bestseller list and her book has been optioned for a movie. Promotional plans for hyping the book and movie have the secret Hollywood crush she wrote into the story set up with a fake dating scheme. Emily is so excited to meet her crush and she gladly goes along with photo shoots and more. Jason Connor has been an actor for years and has had continued image problems. He’s asked to meet and pose for photos with the author that used him as her hero in a book. He’s flattered and more than willing to play along with his agents advice to make a romcom come true. At least as much as the public will know. But he finds himself falling for Emily and he’s not sure how to handle all the feelings.
🎧 I alternated between an ecopy and an audiobook copy of this book. The audiobook is narrated by Andrew Eiden and Stephanie Willing. Both do a phenomenal job with their POV chapters including emotions, and character voices. From apathy to joy the enthusiasm of a good story came through making it entertaining to listen to as it progressed. I think these two narrators made a great pairing for this romcom. I listened at 1.5 for a standard conversation speed. The audiobook narrators made the characters come off the page making it my preferred format. The podcast characters were a bit over the top but it’s Hollywood.
A romcom crush from page to screen and from writer to actor. A clean, feel good read with engaging banter. Definitely an author to watch.
I received a copy of this from NetGalley and publisher Hachette Audio.
Emmy Ellison wanted to be a famous screen play writer but settled for social media manager turned romance author (for now). Her novel Hashtag Celebrity Crush blows up, thanks to a viral poll where the internet guesses which real-life celebrity the book’s character is based on.
When the celebrity crush is revealed, and he is casted as the leading man in the movie adaptation, Emmy decides to use the momentum to sell more books and maybe get her shot at Hollywood after all. All she has to do is make it seem like she’s dating her celebrity crush…
What to expect…. - bookish book - wish/fantasy fulfillment - single mom/single dad - 30+ age MCs - a touch of nerdy - great banter - no spice/closed door
What I didn’t love… - a bit too insta-lust for me. - honestly didn’t really like our MMC munch…. - The banter in the book was great but there was not nearly enough of it. I found myself uninterested in scenes where both characters weren’t present. - This is a me problem I think, but I find it hard to connect with social media/pop culture references and this book had a TON. Which to be fair was somewhat appropriate for the book’s plot/themes, but I would have preferred a lot less. - I could have done without the very LONG pre-chapter interview/vlogs/etc. I don’t mind a short one sprinkled throughout but it became cumbersome quickly.
Thank you NetGalley and Forever for sending this book (eARC) for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
This was so freaking cute! And the narration? Amazing!!! Who hasn't had a celebrity crush at some point in their life? If you said "me", you lying. I know I have had several and if I ever got to meet them I would likely turn into mush. And if Janet Jackson or Sam Elliot gave me a hug? Plan my funeral. It was wonderful that the FMC had no chill about meeting her celebrity crush, and actually freaked out a bit. And the slow development of feels with cute activities to bond over were a joy to read. I also loved that the author dipped into the darker side of fame here, so many books just show the shiny bits. This encompassed more feels as a result. This does not read like a debut and I cannot wait to see what Christy Swift does next!!! Much love to NetGalley, Hachette Audio & Forever Pulishing for my AlC.
4.5/5⭐️ I LOVED this book. Emmy writes a book inspired by her celebrity crush. In all the publicity surrounding her book she ends up meeting her celebrity crush! Emmy and Jason’s love story blooms from there. I loved the mix of blogs, youtube videos and interviews scattered throughout the novel. It made the story line more intriguing to read. The only reason it wasn’t a five star read for me was because the ending felt rushed!
Emmy is an author who dreams of Hollywood. She lost her first chance when she was younger, after an unplanned pregnancy paired with a ruthless director who crushed her dreams.
But she’s back nearly a decade later with a preteen daughter and a bestselling romance called #Celebrity Crush which is being made into a movie.
There’s a lot of hubbub about who the book is based on, who her secret celebrity crush is.
Meet Jason, costar on a popular sci-fi musical and dance television show, a trying-to-be-reformed cad and bad boy with a young son and hopes of turning things around.
He’s the crush.
But when the public leans into the crush Emmy has on him, they also lean in, even though Jason knows that his public image needs to be squeaky clean if he wants to keep his job.
But when Emmy gets it into her head that he’s using her, she decides to take some for herself as well - and everyone goes down in flames.
Ugh. What a cute premise that ultimately didn’t work. There is so much going on here that there’s no way I could express it all in 2200 characters. Nor would I want to.
ONE CONVERSATION. They just needed to have one conversation, but both MCs are too juvenile to broach the elephant in the room.
Yikes this was problematic.
The FMC is immature and borderline stalker-y, admittedly using Jason to further her career. Meanwhile Jason is barely redeemable. He ruins her career in a selfish tantrum, his impulsiveness alienating the reader. His character arc isn’t an arc at all, it’s a straight line that runs into a brick wall. Both characters are dishonest and kind of awful.
And while this is advertised as fake dating, it’s more like insta-lust, and honestly doesn’t work. It also feels icky using their kids as props.
There are some cute pop culture references and nerdy banter, but these two would have worked better as friends looking to straighten out their deeply flawed lives than potential lovers. What does work? There’s lots of celebrity name drops, a funny “fat Thor” joke, mixed media presentation, and lots of influencer vibes, which gave it texture.
The audio does the best it can with the material it was given. This is a pass for me.
Jason is Emmy's celebrity crush and the subject of her NYT bestselling book, #CelebrityCrush. It is veiled portrayal and easily comes out that Jason, who is a TV superhero Hollywood star, is who her novel is based on. Emmy's dream comes true when her agent sells the movie rights and Jason's part will be played by Jason. To add to the truly miraculous fantasy, Jason and Emmy will do marketing together for the film. And they play up their relationship for the cameras. So we have forced proximity, insta-love, single mom/dad as our main tropes.
For fans of Tessa Bailey, similar tropes, similar character-types and spice level.
This book had a lot of heart but I didn't love either of the main characters, they came across as whiny and entitled and simplistic. I could do without his chapters that kept describing her "muscular and curvy" body and her suntan. Her internal dialogue referred a lot to his "rock hard body"- I dont know, it was just heavy on the lust language. I liked the book a lot until around 30% but the conflicts were contrived and it went downhill from there.
I would read another book by the author and liked the setting but this one wasn't a big win.
Audiobook narrators did well- particularly the performance of the male narrator, I found it easy to follow. This story does have good pacing so it lends itself well to the audio format.
Thanks to Netgalley and Hachette Audio for the ARC. Book to be published 2/11/25.
okay not much to say about this one other than i really really enjoyed it!!!
i loved that both of our characters were flawed and real, while also being likeable and easy to root for. it was easy to see why they clicked and ended up together, which is obviously massively important in romance novels.
the only reason this isn't five stars is bc i didn't feel entirely connected to the characters and invested in them the entire time. but like... go read this anyway.
thank you to netgalley & grand central publishing for the arc! all opinions are my own <3
I went into this with the impression it was going to be a fun fake dating romance between a romance author and the actor staring in the movie adaptation of her novel. Spoiler alert, it’s absolutely not.
This was purely insta-lust between two of the most flat and unlikable characters with zero redeeming qualities. I did not feel that there was any believable chemistry or connection between the characters outside of physical appearance. Not to mention the fact that their relationship was incredibly toxic.
I’m all for messy relationships, drama and secrets but this was executed very poorly and the characters came across very unbelievable and immature.
It felt like this book was trying to be way too many things at once and it did not pan out. It was very repetitive and the constant celebrity name dropping was annoying. The repeated use of the phrase “thank god and Tom Hanks” was… a choice.
As a reader, this book did not feel like it was well planned or outlined at all. I think it would greatly benefit from some revision and a clear sense of what story the author is trying to tell.
I think if it was advertised more accurately, this book could potentially reach its target audience. Unfortunately that is not me.
Thank you Forever publishing and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
• My Reading Experience: GOOD • Book Spice: None - closed door/implied • Adjusted Rating: 3.75 stars • POV: First Person / Dual
• Content Thoughts:
I really enjoyed the overall flow of this story. It was a great mix of humor, romance, and plot. One of my favorite elements was the creative inclusion of transcript-like chapters woven throughout. Whether it was vlogs, TV show snippets, or podcast segments, those interludes added a fresh, upbeat energy that made the book stand out.
That said, the romance itself leaned a little too far into insta-love for my taste. The relationship felt a bit rushed given the timeline, and I found myself wishing for more build-up before the characters realized their feelings. Still, the romance was cute and had plenty of sweet moments that kept me invested.
Since I primarily experienced this book through the audiobook, I have to mention how well the narrators fit the story. Their tones and inflections captured the humor and heart really well.
My only small critique is with the transcript chapters… without the dual narration or character name cues, it was sometimes tricky to know who was speaking. A bit more vocal differentiation there would have made those sections even smoother.
Overall, this was a fun, lively read with a creative format and charming energy.
3.25 - Thank you so much to Forever for the complimentary copy! Thank you so much to Hachette Audio for the complimentary ALC!
This book is out now!
Ugh. I wanted to love this SO badly! On paper this is exactly the kind of book that I love but for some reason it just wasn't clicking for me the way I thought it would. And I thought pairing it with the audio which is narrated by Andrew Eiden and Stephanie Willing would help but it only help with making sure that I finished the book.
"Hollywood isn't really a place, after all. It's a universe. A universe I desperately want to belong to."
And maybe I missed it but it just seemed like one minute Emmy is put in the hot seat to admit who her celebrity crush is and next minute Jason was the crush and boom they are dating? I know Emmy was helping him with his social media image but it just didn't feel real? I was hoping for more of a built up? More flirting? Something to make me feel connected to the characters.
As I mentioned I paired my reading with the audio and sadly even with Andrew Eiden (Teddy Hamilton) doing the MMC's POV it did not help much. He made it at least somewhat enjoyable. I am unfamiliar with Stephanie Willing prior work but I would listen to her again. They truly saved me. I feel like I am making this sound like a really bad book. It's not. I wanted so bad for things to click for me but it just hadn't.
I would read this author again as this was a debut so it could possible be that first book jitters.
I recommend this if you like books with social media influencers and Hollywood!
This was a good, cute romance. Scheduled pub: Feb 11th. Thank you to Forever & Hachette Audio!
Would recommend if you love: -Celebrity romance (MMC is an actor) -Single parent -FMC is an author & influencer -a liiiiittle bit of mixed media with the vlogs/ interviews/ etc.
The romance was cute in this. It felt very real as both of the main characters had their own 'issues' in their background. Emmy got a little dislikable in the middle of this when she felt like she was entitled just because she got shut down in the past and she thinks she works so hard. Idk, it felt weird. Honestly, neither one of them were super loveable for me but lots of readers will love these two.
Side note: the blurb mentions the fake dating trope. I didn't see any fake dating. The dude didn't want to try based on his image.
I enjoyed both narrators. The female narrator put a good amount of 'extra' into this like with the giggles of the two women that did the talk show. And I mean, Andrew Eiden-- we already all know he's amazing.
If you love nerdy pop culture references, a sweet & swoony love interest, and a dash of glitzy Hollywood glamour, this book is for you! Christy really put the COM in romcom and I had a blast being in the mind of relatable, loveable Emmy and too-good-for-this-world Jason. Christy is a master at creating voice-y characters with tons of personality and charm, and the humor was spot on - I was giggling from start to finish. There’s everything from obscure sci fi humor to dry, sarcastic wit to physical comedy (the pool scene comes to mind lol) that I just ate up. Perfect for fans of Kate Spencer, Katherine Center, and Erin Hahn.
Thank you to NetGalley and Forever for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I love a celebrity romance so much and was so excited when forever sent me a copy of this!!!
It was all around just such a fun time. If you are someone who has a celebrity crush, or had one as a teen (most of us), you need to read this!!! If you enjoyed Funny You Should Ask by Elissa Sussman, I think you’ll enjoy this!!
I didn’t get the sci-fi references, but that didn’t hinder my experience! I loved the plot and how the story progressed. I loved the romance between the main characters, and I loved that they both were parents and could bond over that.
I really enjoyed my read of this! (And it’s also closed door!!)
Celebrity Crush by Christy Swift was a good debut novel. I listened to the audiobook, and the narrators Teddy Hamilton and Stephanie Willing were swoony and made the story! There were some funny moments throughout the story.
Read this if you enjoy: -Celebrity romance -Author FMC/actor MMC -Single mom -Single dad -Insta-love -Miscommunication -Social media influencing -Hollywood setting
I really wanted to love this one, but it was a miss for me unfortunately.
The premise is great, and I generally LOVE a celebrity romance! I enjoyed it at first, thought it was cute.
Ultimately I didn’t feel like I connected with either of the main characters - it lacked depth. I found certain bits to be problematic as well. The chapters that started with the podcast were super cringey, especially in audio.
🎧audiobook thoughts: Stephanie Willing + Andrew Eiden (aka Teddy Hamilton) are both fantastic as Emmy & Jason, which is why I didn’t DNF this one. I enjoyed their narration, and just kept hoping for the story to turn around.
Thank you to Forever (Grand Central Publishing), Hachette Audio & NetGalley for advanced copies. All opinions are my own.
2.75. Emmy is a romance writer whose book is being made into a movie. She knows she can use social media to promote herself and decides to reveal her celebrity crush to her following. He’s also starring in her movie. The PR is too good to pass up but she wasn’t joking about the crush and a crush turns into feelings as they work together to promote.
This was a fun listen and had really charming parts. There were a lot of corny parts as well that got old quickly. Jason was not a very likable character for me personally and didn’t seem to develop into one over the course of the story. Emmy wasn’t likable enough to redeem both of them either. The entire story fell a little flat for me towards the middle.
The narrators did great at portraying the characters.
Thank you so much to Netgalley, Christy Swift, and Hachette Audio for providing this free ARC. This is my honest review. This published on February 11th.
This book has everything! Too many pop culture references! Multiple characters not knowing what a Venn diagram is! So many TikTok mentions I’m convinced this book is an AD for the app!
This is a huge no for me. I kept hoping it’d get better but it let me down in the end. This felt like a joke?? Idk. Pass.
This was cute and perfect if you want a kind of nerdy romance, and I mean that as a compliment. There were a lot of sci fi references that went over my head but there were also plenty of pop culture refs that I got (lol) and the banter between the leads was great. Overall an easy and charming listen with two fantastic narrators
*Thank you Forever & Hachette Audio for this ALC through NetGalley!*
It took me longer than expected to get through this audio book, but it was worth every minute of listening time. The narrators were great, especially Stephanie Willing. Her voice was perfect for Emmy, and she did such a great job with the different female side characters voices as well.
Overall, the actual content of this book was a humorous and wild ride. I loved the interactions between the characters & the way the story transpired. The story had its curtsey moments but also moments where you just wanted to shake the main characters for their behavior. I feel like any good book has moments like that. There were things that Jason did that I feel like many people would not agree with but overall, without being in the limelight you don't know how you would react or act in any of those situations. I think that Christy did a wonderful job showing that actors, even fictional ones in a book, are just human & screw up royally like the rest of us do.
Celebrity Crush was a solid book and listening to it as an audiobook made it so much fun.
2.25 stars because while there are a lot of problems, I had fun for a bit and I think the writing on a sentence level was pretty good
This was an interesting one for me because for a good portion of the book I was thinking "okay this is cheesy and cringey but I'm having fun, probably 4 stars" but then about 75% in the 3rd act breakup happens and they are so mean to each other for a while after. I felt the last 25% of the book ruined all of the character and relationship development completely. And then I was explaining this book to some friends and had some more thoughts...
OK spoilers incoming so look away now. The TV show the MMC is on is called Lost Star Dance Troupe Saves the Universe and it is exactly the title...a sci-fi show about dancers saving the universe through dance? And isn't like just marketed to kids ala The Wiggles? I cannot imagine HOW a show like that has multiple seasons (but also I would watch at least one episode lol). And then the movie adaptation of a very common romance novel turns out to be a musical with Duran Duran songs? What? WHAT?! And the author wasn't even aware of that until she goes to the studio near the end of the filming? And also there was this really cringey hug competition at this huge Hollywood party between all of the guys in the show with the FMC that ended so strangely because the show runners were there and the MMC didn't want them to see him being lovely to her? The Venn diagram video was also so weird like why did she have to explain what it is so many times? And why is Hugh Jackman such a pinnacle of manliness/romance in this book? When I think of a swoony celebrity, Hugh Jackman can't even crack the top 10.
OK now the breakup catalyst, she jumps off a yacht to save a dog in the ocean and he just abandons her because his ex girlfriend announces her pregnancy AT A PARTY, ON A MICROPHONE. Why is the fact that someone just JUMPED OFF THE YACHT not a huge ordeal at this moment? Then she gets out and is basically told by someone else that she can't talk to the MMC because TMZ has photos of the MCs topless and hooking up in his backyard that everyone thinks she sent in even though there is nothing in this woman's life that would make anyone think she would send in photos of her mid 30s mom boobs out into a gossip rag, she is an author and in NO WAY do I think that would be a good look for her. But nobody believes she didn't do it and I cannot wrap my head around that. Sure her agent or publicist was saying they should use their relationship to get her book some press but the only things she posted were very not scandalous things they agreed to together or one single photo of her drinking a smoothie with bed head and a blurry MMC in the background. So the MMC seems to get back together with his pregnant ex even though she is still with some other guy AND he doesn't even think the baby is his.
Now months later its time for the movie press tour and the MCs meet again. She has tried to tell him multiple times it wasn't her that sent these photos in and he won't believe her. They are doing this game show together and they are both being outright hostile and vicious ON CAMERA to each other. He even says to her that his goal is to tank this press tour and get the LA premiere cancelled. At this point, I am NOT rooting for a reconciliation. He is also WASTED and drinking from a flask constantly ON A TALK SHOW EVEN. She drives him home because again, he is trashed. She tells him again she didn't send in the photos and shows him the smoothie photo she posted and suddenly he believes her and decides he wants her back. She says no and just leaves even though this has been all she wanted while they were apart?
OH AND I forgot that she wrote this scene in her book about the guy getting into a bar fight and getting arrested which happened in his realm life and was buried so nobody really knew about it. But everyone know he was the inspiration for this book and with the smallest amount of digging, anyone could have found that out. THIS would have been a much more believable reason for the breakup and for him being fired from this dance show (which he blamed her for because of the hook up photos).
So to get her back he does this incredibly public flash mob with all kinds of his fans there which I'm sorry but that is so manipulative in this case. They get back together and dance a salsa? But then the pregnant ex girlfriend there with her boyfriend who, get this, is not only the actual father of the baby but is ALSO the father to the FMC's 12 year old daughter that she NEVER TOLD HIM ABOUT. And this pregnant ex starts going in to labor at this weird flash mob event thing and tells the MMC "oh its not actually your baby" and he's just like "ok cool" but now they have half siblings together which is kind of a huge deal?? WHAT IS HAPPENING?? So much random things happen in this book that could've used more time to be fleshed out (or cut entirely) but instead we keep talking about Marvel actors and Hugh Jackman...
But you want to know what was good? The audiobook narrators. Fantastic, really.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ALC
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Update: I was so happy to get the AlC for free from Hachette Audio through NetGalley as I wanted to be able to review the narrators even though I read the ARC back in November.
It did not disappoint! While I enjoyed the male narrator Andrew Eden a bit more, I am a bit biased as I always enjoy his reads usually under the name Teddy Hamilton. The female , Stephanie Willing did a fine job, particularly with all the different character voices. The only criticism I have is that she didn’t match the voice I had in my head due to the description of her voice in the book which says she has a lilting and gravely voice. But you quickly forget that fact and just enjoy the book.
I listened to the book on 2x rate which was perfect for me (that’s after I listened for a bit on 1x rate which I found very slow). The book is a quick read as it is and can easily Be finished in one sitting!
Wow! That was better than i anticipated! I rated it 4.5⭐️ but rounded it up for Goodreads as it deserved it. I thought this was going b to be a fluffy romance and while it is a RomCom it has more “meat” on it than is typical with this type of book.
I am so thankful to St Martin’s Press for giving me the eARC for free so I could leave a review and got NetGalley for hosting it. This is a book that I want b a physical copy of once it comes out on 2/11/25 as I would want b to share it with others and read it again in the future.
I loved Emmy who is an author and VLOGer who gets her book published and gets to have a surprise meet with her celebrity crush who “inspired” the book and then all the romantic entanglements ensue! She is a strong FMC who is s great role model for her 12 year old daughter. The MMC of going through a redemption arc throughout the book and in was happy to read a very real and flawed character.
So her this on you r 2025 TBR as it’s a romance you won’t want to miss out on it just in time for Valentine’s Day
My rating system since GoodReads doesn’t have partial stars and I rarely round up.
⭐️ Hated it ⭐️⭐️ Had a lot of trouble, prose issues, really not my cup of tea (potentially DNF’d or thought about it) ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Meh, it was an ok read but nothing special ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Really enjoyed it! Would recommend to others ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Outstanding! Will circle back and read again
I love the escapism of a celebrity romance, and this had a fantastic premise about celebrity crushes. I’m afraid this was not my cup of tea and I DNF at 39% (though I jumped to the last few chapters to see if it would warrant persisting and it confirmed I would be wasting my time). I just couldn’t get into the characters and the way the plot was developing felt too bonkers even for Hollywood. Emmy came off as a stalker who had the temerity to be upset because Jason didn’t follow her back on social media. Especially when she used real life incidents from his life in her book, such as his past arrest. Then she plots to just use him, without really getting his permission for publicity. I also found the scenes of her Tik Tok dancing with her kid just cringe. To be fair, I find TT dancing cringe anyway, but didn’t really need descriptions of her and her daughter filming TT dances. I also couldn’t get into Jason either, especially the whole business with his on/off girlfriend and co-star.
For anyone who loves celebrity romance, I still say give this a go. I want this debut author to be successful, even though it wasn’t for me. I will try this author again though because I do think she’s talented. Hence I am leaving three stars because its easy for me to write this pithy review, but I very much doubt I could even write a book like Christy.
Thanks to Forever (Grand Central Publishing) and NetGalley for the ARC.
I just severely disliked how dishonest both main characters were with each other in order to keep a ruse going. I’m not one to judge anyone. But wow. Not only did the MMC humiliate his ex in public in order to “win” an argument because he couldn’t see his way out of being manipulated but then turns around and invites a near stranger into his home to stay with him, meeting his kid, because he is attracted to her and, if he is lucky, wants to sleep with her. His people around him are right when they say he is an a hole, but HER friends should have been better at checking in, and her manager is GROSS for shoving her at someone to make a show of it. This entire book made me feel gross. Both Jason and Emmy felt like rushed characters, using flair for drama and “witty catchphrases” thrown together with insta-lust to create a book. And that really just doesn’t sit well with me.
Celebrity Crush by Christy Swift in quick, rapid-fire thoughts.
-sneak inside the book publishing world with Emmy Ellison -peak behind the celebrity curtain with Jason Connor -witty and clever banter -actual funny moments -all the pop culture movie references -both main characters have a child -fade to black steamy scenes
Audiobook notes: Andrew Eiden (cough, cough, cough, aka Teddy Hamilton) was exactly the voice needed for Jason; sassy, smug, and sexy all came across! (I may have had some excitedly explicit language during his opening chapter!) Stephanie Willing was perfect, too! Quirky, relatable, and endearing - a wonderful choice to voice Emmy!
This is such a fun and funny read that's a bit nerdy!
Thank you NetGalley, Forever (Grand Central Publishing), and Hachette Audio for the complimentary copies to read and review.
The story was quite fun and it is super easy to read. 🥂 I liked the narration and i think that they did an incredible work 🙏🏼
The first 4 chapters intrigued me and i knew that i wanted to continue the story. The main characters feels real, but knowing that they are celebrities they act weird sometimes as well.
I am not super fan of the ambient generated between celebrities and how they act for fame etc... The drama of the story was typical, lack of truast and communication, and of course the media ate that month lol.
The story was gripping the first half, then i feel that it decreased a bit 🤏🏻
Overall, it is enjoyable but it has some parts where i was not really into it and then i was interested again in some topic, it was a cycle. 🔁
I’m not sure where to start. Celebrity crush was cute, funny, weird, chaotic and unpredictable all simultaneously, but somehow still worked (mostly). Emmy is a new author with a book based on her celebrity crush. Her crush then becomes the lead actor in the movie adaptation, and of course they get to meet. Although the start of the book was really promising, I didn’t really feel the connection between the two of them. I wish there had been more time for them to get to know each other before falling for each other. There were also a ton of TikTok references that didn’t land with me, but may be more enjoyable for another reader. Thanks for the eARC NetGalley.
Not bad, like the voice and some fun playing with form throughout. A bit insta-love though and I feel like the cover somewhat implies it’s a plus size romance but that is NOT the case. It’s a fun book regardless but did fizzle out 2/3 of the way through.
