This is an absolutely delightful story. It is part of a series but it can be read as a standalone. Honestly though you'll probably get more enjoyment immersing yourself in the series from the beginning.
Just imagine...youre barely home after being gone a few weeks and your life is thrown into chaos. Well, that is the exact scenario our FMC is dealing with. Being removed from her home for a wedding and then a deceased individual in the garden?? Cue drama and This book turning into a pageturner!
This book is a delightful read that will be over before you know it. As much as I love cozy mysteries I'll be going back to dive into previous books to embrace the whole series.

Kat's plane from the U.S. has barely landed back in England before she finds Ruby dead in her garden and is thrust into numerous shady happenings in the village.
A Fatal Feast at Honeychurch Hall is another winner in this series. It could easily be read as a standalone but is a delightful way to make a return visit to the Hall and all its quirky characters.
A mystery full of twists and turns that kept me guessing until the end written with enough action and humor to keep the pages turning. I highly recommend A Fatal Feast at Honeychurch Hall to all cozy mystery readers.

Charming small village mystery.

It felt at times like there was just a bit too much going on, and none of the many storylines was quite fully pulling me in. But I think it's just coz this was already late in the series, and we're already expected to know and care for these characters. I wasn't necessarily confused by the large cast and their complex relationships, but I also didn't necessarily care much about them either, so I think starting earlier in the series may have helped.

Minor note but in the big climactic scene, I'm glad the horse was clearly okay from the get-go.

The story takes a while to pick up, and it took me some time to get fully engaged. The cozy English setting is charming, and there is some suspense, but it’s light and never feels like a heavy thriller. Overall, it was a readable mystery, but I don’t plan to continue with the next book in the series.

Returning home from a three-week trip to the USA, to attend the United Federation of Dolls Clubs annual convention in Los Angels, Kat Stanford, is pleased to be home in Little Dipperton. She owns that being the keynote speaker has boosted her ego, whereas she would have thought she would have been forgotten by now. Nonsense her mother Iris declared. ‘You’re still famous as the former TV host of Fakes and Treasures.’

So, what’s been happening, says Kat? Well, I don’t want to alarm you, says Iris, but the dowager countess Edith of Honeychurch Hall is currently unwell. Being a robust octogenarian this is rather alarming. Before she can elaborate more a call comes through from ‘Just call me Danny’ the local vicar. Unable to raise his mother Ruby or his wife Caroline he asks Iris to drive over and check she is OK. Flying down the narrow country lanes Iris stops for a birdwatcher, who Iris introduces to her as Crispin Fellowes, and from the silly grin on her face, Kat realises that Crispin is her latest squeeze.

Suddenly they are surrounded by goats, hemmed in, unable to move. Then Lord Rupert Honeychurch, the fifteenth Earl of Grenville arrives complete with dog and whistle and soon order is restored. Eventually they reach Ruby’s current abode, End Cottage, but are unable to get any answer to their knocking. They finally locate Ruby, lying dead in the rose garden in a white nightdress covered in brown stains.

Having made the necessary calls, they eventually reach Kat’s home Jane’s Cottage built in red brick in 1800s. Kat has missed her lovely policeman Mallory and her home. When they arrive, they are immediately ambushed by Delia Evans, head of house at the Hall, who dresses like Mrs Hughes, the housekeeper in Downton Abbey. Delia likes to be the first with news and tells them that Eric Pugsley, is getting married on Saturday.

For those new to this wonderful series Eric Pugsley, runs the unsightly scrapyard on the Honeychurch Hall estate. He has brought home his Turkish fiancée, Yasmine and her outrageously feisty mother. This came as a shock to me, a long-time reader of this series. Eric Pugsley has huge beetle brows and does more grunting that actually speaking. Not what I would call a handsome man. However, when Iris goes to inform him that there has been time change for the village Safari Supper tomorrow evening, held in their honour, she sees a different Eric. Sleek perfectly groomed eyebrows, no stubble and clean clothes. Next to him, his new fiancée is utterly stunning but doesn’t speak much English.

The good news is that Mallory is delighted to see her and says how much he has missed her. So, all good until Kat decides to open the post that has accumulated in her absence. A hand delivered letter states The Earl of Granville has given her three weeks to vacate Jane’s Cottage and both the east and west gatehouses. She is being evicted.

There is clearly something going on and Kat needs to find out what? Then at the Safari Supper at the Hall, one of the villagers goes missing and is later found drowned in the estate's ornamental lake. But things take an even more sinister turn when Eric asks, Kat Stanford, to value the bride-to-be's 19th century Etruscan engagement ring, but to leave the valuation area blank. She also learns that historically it was used to carry poison - hardly an appropriate choice for love, but Eric is adamant it's what his fiancée wants. And eventually Kat learns who Crispin Fellowes actually is.

But most disturbing is that suddenly Mallory is cancelling dates and is strangely unavailable. Is Kat’s new relationship going to crash and burn.

A most compelling read, with many twists and turns. And one I highly recommend.

I absolutely loved Hannah Dennison’s newest book, A Fatal Feast at Honeychurch Hall. Truthfully, I read it in one sitting. I was hooked from the beginning.

One of the villagers, Eric Pugsley, who runs the scrapyard, turns up transformed - scruffy beard gone, neat clothes, trimmed hair - and with a bride-to-be from Istanbul on his arm….along with her mother.

Kat Stanford arrives back at Honeychurch Hall after three weeks in America to find she is going to be evicted from her lovely home because of this upcoming wedding. But strange things start happening - a herd of goats rampages through gardens, villagers are getting sick, Iris’ (Kat’s mother) car brakes fail, and she is afraid her longtime financial advisor was going to push her off a cliff. Eric’s mother is found dead in her garden after the goats invade it. Kat doesn’t trust the financial advisor, the bride-to-be and her mother, or Eric. Thank goodness her beau Officer Mallory is investigating, especially after there’s another death.

It’s always such a pleasure to visit the village of Little Dipperton and the Honeychurch Estate. The people who populate the village and estate are definitely characters (read: oddball) and it’s great to see what they are up to in Dennison’s latest escapades. This book is an absolute winner in my book!

Thanks to the author and Cozy Mystery Review Crew for allowing me to read an advanced copy. I’m happy to leave my honest review.

Kat has just returned from long three-week trip to the United States to attend the United Federation of Dolls Clubs annual convention in Los Angeles. The problem is she returns back to Little Dipperton (love the name) to find out that she is going to be evicted from her home due to an upcoming wedding. She’s not even home long and she discovers that Ruby is dead in her garden! Then there are all kinds of different events that take place in the village. From a herd of goats rampaging through the gardens, car brakes failing, and villagers getting sick are these all related? Are these events related at all to the bride-to-be and her mother, or Eric?

This was the first book that I have read by Hannah Dennison. I loved all of the references to the animals in the book as I am a huge animal lover. I also found this book to be very entertaining. I burst out laughing a couple of times reading this book. It was such a fun cozy to read. The village people and estate people are definitely interesting characters to say the least. They kept me entertained. Living in a small community I can relate to some of the things that they are doing.
I will be going back and reading more books by this author including earlier ones in this series. This book is well worth the read.

Wow! 5 stars are not enough, it deserves at least 10. The climax was beyond intense with a runaway horse, a not totally abandoned quarry, a massive fire, a switchblade, a thunderstorm, poison, and more. My eyes could hardly move fast enough to read what would happen next.

Before all that happened there were some nasty shenanigans going on at Honeychurch Hall. His Lordship was a jerk for what he did to the main character, Kat. Duplicity all around! I did miss not seeing more of the dowager countess who, no doubt, would have quickly seen through all the deceit.

Kat's mom continues to be a source of consternation for Kat, though she does it with great charm. Fortunately Kat's new boyfriend is very understanding about the vicissitudes of family members.

I was glad to read in the acknowledgments that the author has plenty of ideas for future books. I look forward to further adventures with Kat and her family and friends. There are always entertaining things happening at Honeychurch Hall, with never a dull moment and plenty of LOL scenes.

P.S. I was able to enjoy an early edition thanks to Blackwell's online bookstore. The price of the book includes shipping to US.

First, I have to say I'm new to this series (but not to the author). I was able to pick right up with all the characters and relationships without the background from earlier books, so it works fine as a standalone.

I loved the English setting! The author describes the homes, gardens, and town landmarks so well that I could really visualize everything. I also enjoyed the descriptions of the various local animals, both pets and livestock.

The main character, Kat, had been overseas and just returned home to find: a murder, possible eviction, and some surprising changes in one of the villagers. I enjoyed watching her try to solve the murder and resolve the other situations. She's good at seeking out clues and putting things together. The best part is that she manages to keep a sense of humor during all of this, and there are some genuinely funny moments in the story (despite the murder).

This is just such a delightful cozy mystery! A good crime, plenty of clues, some humor, and animal antics. 5 stars from me, and I plan to go back and read earlier books.

This is the 11th book in this delightful British cozy mystery series; I’ve read and loved several of the books in the series and am working on reading the rest. This book could stand alone well, though. Kat, who famously had a tv show evaluating antiques, lives outside London, where she has joined her feisty widowed mother living on an estate of a formerly wealthy family. The estate and surrounding village are both full of quirky characters and there’s always a mystery that needs to be solved, another of Kat’s specialties. This time, there’s going to be a wedding between Eric, a middle-aged oaf, and a gorgeous young woman he hasn’t known long, so things aren’t adding up. First there’s one body, then two, then…well, no spoilers from me, but there’s a bit of romance, some humor, lots of clever dialogue, a bit of danger and lots of intrigue. It’s everything I love in a cozy mystery and I highly recommend this book and series. I was provided an ARC, which I very much appreciate, but these opinions are my own.

Firstly, I know a lot of people get free copies of books to review; I borrowed this one from my local library so I do not feel obligated to give it a higher rating than I really thought.

Once more we visit the village where the residents have an alarmingly high rate of being related to one another. My biggest complaint about this series is how Kat and Iris shamelessly bow down and kowtow to the Honeychurch clan. Lord Rupert and his wife Lady Lavinia snap their fingers and Kat hops to it. However... this book now takes the biscuit. Lord Rupert gives notice to Kat that he is turfing her from her home. No explanation and won't discuss it with her. That situation eventually rights itself (with zero help from Milord and M'lady), at which point you'd think Kat would tell the Honeychurch clan to take a running leap.. but no, she is back to fetching and toting, looking after the horses and exercising them. Yes Sir No Sir Three Bags Full Sir, etc....

Sigh.

Well.. at least it was better than the last Posh Barbie Mystery, in my opinion. I find the wheels of this series are starting to spin. Kat's mother Iris was, as always, at the heart of investigations... but this time less annoying than usual. Alfred, who had promise to be the most interesting character near the beginning of the series at least sort of made an appearance here.. although it was mostly third party discussion about him and not Alfred in the flesh.

Also at the beginning of the series Harry, the young son of the Lord and Lady of the Manor seemed to be potentially interesting, but he has since dropped off the edge of the story-line. Was he forgotten? Did he die? Did they ship him off to Toff School?

As usual, the most obviously suspicious characters are completely ignored by the investigation and one key witness apparently flits off to another country without the local police finding that to be in the slightest odd. If the last part of the book struck me as overwrought and overly belaboured.. the first part of the book seemed sparse and spotty.

Rather than delving into clues and movements of possible murderers, we get dragged through the preparations for the rather dull sounding Safari Supper (the usual vol-au-vents nibblies, and bubbly), which seems irrelevant and slows down the storyline. It feels like the Supper perhaps got shoehorned into the story as a pet project, but it didn't make a lot of sense to me.

In future books, I can only hope that our heroine Kat doesn't end every book with a gun at her head only to be saved at the last moment by her latest boyfriend.

Truly not sure if I'll bother with the next one.

Oh I love the Honeychurch Hall series, and this did not disappoint! I think this is my favourite book of the series so far!

This is set in a very quirky village, with even quirkier characters. Kat is the main character in this series, and this sees sabotage at a local show when goats are somehow let loose, and of course suspicious deaths. Kat is also navigating her way around a fairly new relationship with a local police detective. On top of all this Kat is in danger of losing her home.

This is a book that can be read as a standalone but I would strongly recommend reading all the previous books in the series, they are a pure delight!

Thanks must go to the publisher and Netgalley for giving me a copy of this book to read and review.

This series gets more interesting with each book. I enjoyed how the issue of possibly losing her cottage was handled. The untimely death of Crispin was a bit of a red herring and well explained as the story progressed. The new love interest is a welcome change from the previous inspector who seemed commitment phobic. I highly recommend the entire Honeychurch hall series.

I love this series and the latest book does not disappoint. The mad cap characters and beautiful setting enhance the magic of the writing. I found this to be thoroughly enjoyable and unfathomable, tit bits are fed to you subtly through the book but the true ending had me guessing. Great read. Great series. Can’t wait for the next one.

Thank you Netgalley

Best Series since James Herriot!

I can't complain in any form or fashion! First time I've ever read books that mention Škoda automobiles! I've known of them all my life, but I've never seen one! I love how this one ends! It's hard to make me cry, but Ms. Dennison has managed! Fabulous! Beautifully Fabulous!

I have read all the Honeychurch Hall mysteries and have enjoyed each one. Each book is a complete story but I recommend you read them in order as many of the characters are in each book so you have their history. I recommend this book along with all the others.
