Reeling from the firestorm that has resulted from her disappearance, Faye Kent secludes herself once more. This time, her seclusion is in a private college that caters to the elite and their need for privacy.
Faye finally starts allowing herself to form friendships and participate in social activities. Refusing to speak of her time in Ireland, she buries her heartache. But when uncontrollable powers start to surface, Faye realizes she must find someone to help her. Her only hope...a descendant of the sun god and the harbinger of death, Chassan. Heeding Dayne's warning, she hides her ultimate ability, but when the life of a child comes into question, Faye must decide to face a life on the run because she'll have to reveal her ability she kept hidden to save the child.
I loved watching Faye's character grow. She went from this mousy girl hiding in the shadows to a much more confident and tenacious young woman, with strength and determination to face her foes.
Chassan, the son of the sun god, is a very intriguing character. Caught between his duty and his inner belief, he is conflicted about Faye and the feelings she rises to the surface. It seems all the men in Faye's life are going to keep her at a distance till the last second before they reveal how they really feel. We are left wondering what Chassan's role will be in Faye's life...will he hunt her down for friendship, love, or death?
You know that point in New Moon when you thought “where the heck is Edward”, well I hit that about ½ through Son of Sun with “where the heck is Dayne”. But the ending definitely made up for it.
Son of Sun was a masterfully written story taking us deep into the South American mountains of Peru. We discover a contemporary world trapped in ancient rituals, lure, and worship. I would love to delve deeper into Faye and her new “sister” and hope she has a role in the future installments of the Forgotten Gods series.
The ending left me dangling on a cliff's edge, clinging to a clump of grass as my only hope for what's to come next. Once again, we are left with a huge climax, with only guessing where Clair might take us.
