Sawyer Hall, a successful lawyer from Nashville, spends most of her time working or partying with her charismatic best friend, Charlee.
Struggling with memories of her college boyfriend, Jaxx, and the loss of their baby, she is unprepared for the feelings that emerge when she meets Branson Phillips.
Branson Phillips is a local bar owner with dark hair, vibrant green eyes, and a laugh that awakes emotions Sawyer hasn't felt in a very long time.
She never expected another man to walk into her life and turn it on end. The question is, now that he has, will she be able to let go of the painful loss of her past and allow love back into her life?
Author was trying way too hard here. And failed at all of it.
Failed hard at being funny Everything Sawyer, Jaxx, his friends, Charlee, Branson and Brooks (YES EVERYONE) said was supposed to be in a humorous tone. I didn't even crack a mental smile let alone a physical one.
Failed at the story. The relationship moved way too fast for someone who was supposedly single for 4 years. That's the point of a book unlike a movie, you have the time to build a damn story. Why are you rushing it? The conflict with Sawyer's parents was actually the most interesting part of the book and that wasn't even throughly delved in to.
Failed at the drama. Maybe I read too many books but I caught what was going to happen as soon as Sawyer attended the kid's birthday party. The ages and dates were linking up a little too perfectly to be a coincidence. Not to mention, the hate Sawyer's parents had for her choices in life, her boyfriend and her dad's endless power.
And then there was sheer annoyance. Sawyer and her best friend Charlee would have been the girls I saw at a bar and made fun because they were sloppy drunks. They are the girls who scream to one another "I love you" "No I love you more" "No you're like my sister I love you so much" and end up drunk crying in the bathroom.
We know these girls. We're annoyed by these girls. If you are a girl and you say "I've never seen a girl act like that", then YOU ARE that girl.
Conversations between them were meant to be "sassy" or funny but they sounded like rude bitches to me. It's not endearing and I'm not a fan (hell, it's even making me be a rude bitch reviewing this).
I give this 2 stars because it reminded me of "The Air He Breathes"...a little, and that book is pure perfection. So, 2 stars for nostalgia (can you get nostalgia when the memory is, like, less than a month old?)
Sawyer had it all…she had a gorgeous funny fiancée, a baby 3 weeks away from making his/her arrival, and a great group of close friends. Four years later, all that remains from that list is her group of friends. Sawyer is now 28 years old and a lawyer remaining in the home that she and Jaxx had once resided in. All that remains of Jaxx is a headstone, photos, and memories.
Sawyer meets Branson one evening and there is instant chemistry between the two. They both drive lifted diesel pickup trucks…how much more could they have in common? The answer to that is quite a bit and herein lays the surmise of the plot.
“Listen Sawyer, there are things about me that will surprise you, but I’m hoping you’ll have an open mind.”
Branson is heart-stopping gorgeous, gentle, kind and loving. He has a great family that supports him and makes certain that nobody will hurt him and everything he holds close to his heart. Branson’s brother in particular is very protective of his brother and makes certain that Sawyer understands everything when it comes to becoming part of Branson’s heart and life. Branson is very clear when it comes to him wanting more with Sawyer…it’s either all or nothing.
“I need you to know that there is no try with us. Either you are, or you’re not ready.”
Sawyer needs to open up to Branson about her past and all that she has lost, but it’s never the right time to explain. How do you tell somebody that your life will forever have a huge void? That your life will forever be changed? That you will never be the same again? When she does finally let Branson know everything they are both in for a huge surprise.
“Why do you have a picture of this man?”
This was a good quick read that packed passion, love, humor and drama in the small number of pages. I adored Branson and his ability to love with everything that he has. His brother was somebody we all would want standing by our side. Sawyer’s best friend is a hoot and those two made me laugh with every conversation they had. Sawyer was blessed to have had a great love in a great man and knew what being loved entailed. Sawyer’s heart has been shattered and Branson’s heart will always have a hole in it, but together they can find a way to mend each other's.
Never Let Me Go was a total surprise. I decided to read this on a whim and I am so stinking happy I did.
First of all - I couldn't stop freaking laughing! Sawyer and her best friend Charlee were so damn hysterical!! Definitely reminded me of my best friend and I, which is what made even better for me to relate - dirty words and all!
Time to shimmy a titty.
Okay. So - this revolves around Sawyer & the new man in her life, Bronson. Sawyer meets Bronson one night at the bar and he gives her a run for her money.
She was definitely not looking for a man like him, considering what she's been working to get over from four years ago.
Sawyer was dealt a shitty card - one day full of pure happiness and bliss - suddenly pulled like a rug from underneath her.
Bronson was instantly attracted to Sawyer's sassiness, her sexiness, her kick ass attitude and he wanted more.
So these tango, spar with words and the chemistry between them erupts into flames.
Bronson, having dealt with his own strife's in life, raising his four year old son on his own, wants Sawyer pretty damn badly but he has to be sure that she is the one in fear of getting his heart, and his son's heart, broken.
After much thinking, Sawyer is ready to take this on. She's ready to be a part of Bronson & Armie's life as much as it scares the shit out of her.
One day, on Armie's birthday and the anniversary of the tragedies in Sawyer's life, something happens that sets Sawyer back and finally causes her to give Bronson the whole story.
In turn, Bronson opens up to Sawyer and shares his story with her, giving her the whole truth (although he's been honest from day one - which I LOVED!!).
And then.... THE PLOT THICKENS, PEOPLE!!!
The idea of what happens did not even cross my damn mind! But man, was it GOOD!!
I absolutely loved this story, twists and all. And I am so happy that Bronson and Sawyer and Armie got their damn happy ending.
The only thing that bothered me a tad was the ending...I felt like it was a tad bit rushed BUT it wasn't enough to bother me a whole lot.
What a fantastic debut for LK Gandy I was sucked in from the beginning and right to the last word. The feeling that you know what's happening but then you think no, it couldn't and then it does and you loved every minute of it. Well that happened. Sawyer is a sassy young lady at college in love with Jaxx and they have everything going for them. Her best friends Charlee is amazing and they both have a promising future to look forward to. Without spoilers Sawyer goes through a terrible ordeal that tears her heart apart. Four years later she's able to slowly move on. The twist are amazing and I loved the ending. Branson is a knight in shining armour and the families you meet in this story are very different one funny and full of love and the other, well you'll find out. I cried hard, I giggled like a child and fell in love with these characters. Well done Gandy.
Never Let Me Go tells the story of Sawyer and Branson. Sawyer is a lawyer and has a past that is shadowed throughout most of the book and you get flashbacks that give you the details of her former love with Jaxx. Branson is a bar owner who sees Sawyer and finds something intriguing about her that he wants to get to know. I had a hard time connecting with Sawyer as she was a little over the top at times, even though she was supposed to be a successful lawyer. There was a major plot twist that I had a hard time believing as too may people knew and cannot see how her best friend didn't. Overall a good read and a good way to spend an afternoon.
I had high hopes for this book. The story started out great and it captured my attention. I felt like it was building to this ultimate high, and although the revelation was something I didn't expect, it took place right before the book ended. I felt like it was resolved too quickly. For someone who was so distraught over the accident that killed her fiance and her baby, I was surprised how easy she took to Brandon's son Armie without being anxious or upset. Other little things upset her but that didn't which I found difficult to understand.
when I began reading,I assumed that this would be another clinched romance.I was so happily surprised that I was wrong. it's rare to find a 1 kindred spirit but Sawyer was lucky to find true love with two great human beings. the struggles human beings experience make us stronger and show us love is infinite. people die their love is eternal! I really want to thank the author for sharing her work with the world. plz read this book u won't be disappointed!
Lame....sorry, but this is sooooo far from reality. When I read the synopsis, it sounded so good. I thought it was going to be a heart wrenching tale of someone who goes through hell and back before being able to pick up the pieces of her life...instead, it's more of a storyline you would find on a day time soap. Blah. Not my thing.
LK did a great job filling this book full of laughter, love, and loss. I wasn't sure what to expect when I first started reading it, but it sure as heck took me on a roller coaster ride of sorts. Looking forward to what she has to come next! By the way, I never saw the ending coming. Make sure you grab Never Let Me Go!
Sorry, but nothing in this book really did anything for me. The MC's didn't grab me, their relationship sort of came out of nowhere.. and the "plot twist" was ridiculous. I know this is fiction, but please... It actually ruined the story even more for me. I'm sorry, but I didn't really care for this one
A tragic accident took away Sawyer's baby and the man she loved. I liked the surprise twist at the end but the dialogue was downright silly at times. Branson is a strong, alpha male that just may give Sawyer a reason to love again.
It was good for me contrary to the feedback of others. I was actually curious how such a story was able to be told, in the sense that it was a quick read, and having that much twists. Granted that I would've wanted more about Branson and Sawyer, but it made me feel happy.
