Thornfield Academy is a place where I, Ivy Hammond, blend in with the everyday supernatural creatures that flock these halls. But when darkness falls, I embrace my calling. I’m a shapeshifting assassin, summoned through a combination of ancient rituals and the dark web to deliver supernatural justice where mortal laws fail.
This me is called Poison, and I'm a master of secrets. But when an assignment comes up, for the first time, I can't complete a job, and it could end up being my last days. My bosses are not the type of creatures you want to mess with, but this one… it strikes too close to home.
To make this more complicated, I’m drawn to three men I should avoid at all costs. They are brutal, they are arrogant and they want what they can’t Poison.
Torin the charming vampire sub-boss of the Ainsley Coven, a powerful supernatural syndicate I've crossed paths with before. Bram Sinclair: the Dark Fae enforcer with magic as ancient and treacherous as the wild forests that surround the academy. Tate Blackwell: the protective warlock whose spells might be my salvation or my doom.
All three are bound by immortal oaths, arcane dangers, and mystical ties that now involve me.
As our worlds collide and blood loyalties are tested, I must decide whether to fade into the shadows and run or stand and fight against the beings who own my soul.
But escaping isn't as simple as that, and when my next contract reaches its deadline, I face a choice that could lead to my ultimate destruction.
This is a dark paranormal academia reverse harem with plenty of TWs. This takes place in an entirely fictional world set in the UK. This is the first book of 1 of 3. Fast Burn.
Eve is a USA Today Bestselling Author with a specialty for steamy romance with strong female leads.
She lives in the UK, with her husband and five kids, so finding the time to write is short, but definitely sweet. Eve has a number of series, both completed and on the go and hopes to release some new and exciting projects, both paranormal and contemporary in the future, so stay tuned!
Not a romance the mmc are obsessed with raping the fmc on a regular basis. “Bad ass” fmc is basically expected to be a whore to accomplish her forced job or die. First chapter ends with the “love interests” aggressively raping fmc and bbs galore. ** page with tw on it doesn’t exist so completely went into this rapefest with no warning**
DNF It is dark but there was no TW with a rape warning. The MMCs get off on gang raping the FMC in a dark alley in the first chapter, and yeah it’s not the first time. Yeah, not for me.
Um. Wtf is this rape-y bs? Yikes. This could have been a lot better if the whole rape game thing was skipped. ..or a big ol' trigger warning was involved.
When authors claim this, and then I read the book, I assume it's a load of BS. This book isn't terrible, but it's also not great. The dialogue is cringe, and the character ARCs are confusing at best. These dudes literally hate a version of her, and then BAM, in the next book, they're suddenly simps? The FMC also goes from being this aloof mega bad*ss on one page to flinching and jumping at sound the next. I love indie books. They are my favorite, but they still need the same effort as trad books to get them polished. This series needs a heavy edit.
Oh my gosh! Ivy is such a bad butt shapeshifting assassin. She gets involved with The Syndicate while looking for answers into what happened to her parents. This also puts in the sights of the Tate, Bram, and Torin. And the deeper she gets involved with them, the more she puts herself at risk. Failing to complete her assignment means forfeiting her life. And there is something more going on that none of them are aware of. Power plays are in motion but to what end?
If you love a story that has a sassy, stand-their-ground woman, and morally grey men that are obsessed with her... this is your book. Warning there is a cliffhanger at the end, but it just sets you up for the next book.
I got serious Mr & Mrs Smith vibes from this book! Only if that movie was set in the Supernatural World and the main characters weren't married.
Hold onto the seat of your pants folks because reading this book is very much a blink and you'll miss with everything packed into it. Assassins, Vampires, Fae, Warlocks, Shapeshifters......etc. Swoon my word did the men in this book definitely bring on the heat! Not only them but Vex ((fans herself)). We need (OK I needed) more from him.
What a naughty cliffy that was?? I'll be on tenterhooks now waiting anxiously for book 2.
Supernatural shifter assassin? Check Vampires? Check Dark Fae? Check Warlocks? Check, check and check! Add in dark societies with agendas and spicy scenes from the start and you’ve got a book that grips you to the very end. And what an end! That cliffhanger had me yelling ‘Nooooooooo’ out loud. A must read.
Ok, I think my heartbeat is back to normal now. That was like seriously intense, and not just the sexy stuff that was off the charts BTW...but the roller-coaster ride that just happened. Basically, just hang on to your hats, because you can't stop once you start
Only thing I don’t like is the s** scenes because of the degradation. I hate those words they use! It’s an ick. But I do like the storyline and did continue to read the series despite those parts. I’ve loved all Eve’s other series I’ve read in this world.
A perfect start to this series. It's dark, dangerous and downright delicious - check the TWs because this is not for the innocent. Ivy is Poison, Poison is Ivy and they are waltzing a fine line between the two. She's a shapeshifting unaliver who isn't scared of being who she is and showing what she wants and going after it. Her relationship with the guys is complicated (lol) and she enjoys their games just as much as they do - if not more - it settles a need she has inside herself that no one else can.
This is a dark story that has dark scenes so be prepared to have your white innocent wings darkened. 🖤
Bring on the next because I am salivating at the thought of book two
Plot was there. But but literally sex in every chapter where it didn't do anything for the plot or for their chemistry finished it just to find out what happened but mostly skimmed. Negative stars.

6 / 10 ⭐️ Sobrenatural (vampiros, fae, brujos, cambiaformas…) / New Adult / Reverse harem / Dark Romance
This book was intense from page one. The spice was delicious and wild.
Poison/Ivy was such a great FMC, she has so much fire and strength within her that I couldn't get enough.
Tate's character going in, I had a lot of bad impressions from but ended up being so protective and sweet that my heart warmed instantly. The way he treats our girl great after certain things happened that you have to read to find out.
Torin's character is my least favorite at the moment. I didn't get any good impressions from him, and my mind is still trying to compute certain actions that have kept me thinking. I know once my mind figures out somethings I will like him. We will have to see.
Bram's character, I should love but I do. He is everything I fall hard for in a MMC. He's a shadow daddy, really gruff and sort of mean. But between everything is just a big gooshy teddy bear wanting love. Love him!
Vex's character, all I have to say is if he isn't in her harem I will riot. I trusted his cold sexy butt since day one. Love him and need more!!!
Ramsey character, love him and I need a bestest bestie like him in my life with the hellhound Chihuahuas!!
Josh's character, is suspicious but I don't want him to be but he is a shifter and he's playing the innocent idgaf attitude waaayyyy to well.
If you like dark, sexy and mystery with a lot of unaliving this is the one for you!!
Give me a why choose dark paranormal romance with 2+ hot supernatural guys and hot bad@$$, take no crap fmc and I'm hooked.
Tate, Torin, and Bram.... (all hot names) These 3 broody, arrogant male characters are not only supernatural, but hot and powerful. I love that they take what they want, when they want, with no apologies.
Ivy, the bad@$$ shifter who is trying to attend Thornfield University, do her very best with her little career and survive the Thornfield Kings: Tate, Torin, and Bram.
Things get very interesting when Ivy's less than ideal bosses, The Syndicate, (because Ivy is actually working as an assassin) decide they want her to kill all 3 of her guys or else face the consequences. So does she fail the assignment and face the wrath of her bosses or does she leave and live her life on the run just to save Tate, Torin, and Bram.
Plus there's more to Ivy than what she or anyone else knows. She's always wanted to know more about her family and her past but no one has been able or willing to help her.
This book was so good. The spice was 10 out of 10. I couldn't get enough of Ivy with the guys. I also really enjoyed that while the guys had a bit of a bully side, they also really cared. A lot of dark why choose romances have the bullying, mean guy type plot but I really enjoyed Eve Newtons spin on it.
The last part of this book was really, really good. All the steam you could do what the problem is. It's that the last of the book, the female narrator oh my God, it's so bad, like, really, really bad there was mowing. It's more emotion with the male narrator than there was the female, it was like she couldn't deepen her voice, so all the characters just sounding like female voices. It really was a throw for me. Um, the story was good, but it didn't get good until about 60% of the book was finished. So once again that's true perilThe last part of this book was really, really good. 2.5 SUCH a questionable beginning but I kept reading because the premise was interesting. I did not like how it started and almost stopped reading it. Check trigger warnings but also based on the other reviews this trigger warning wasn't in there. Ivy is a shifter who is an assassin by night but no one knows her real identity. Her double identity Poison has caught the attention of the Kings of her college and she is wrapped up in a society where she can't fail. What could go wrong right? I liked the protective aspect and I liked that they were into her when they realized who she was but I don't like how instant it is. I liked how the big reveal of the Syndicate played out and was shocked by it. This story is more sex than story which does bother me a bit.
I DNFed before the first chapter was even done, this was horrible. It's like a bad rapey porno, and all with in the first 10 minutes of the book. I wish I had read the reviews before trying this author out as this seem to be a theme in her books 😒.
The FMC is an femme fatale assassin using her body/poison to trick & kill her marks, her nickname is Poison. The book opens up to her on assignment, and when the job is "done" so to speak, she heads home only to be attacked & gang raped by 3 guys who apparently do this shit to her all the time??? She hates them, but still gets off on it, and they hate her, but can't stop raping her??? its very f*cked up and not romance at all. I will not finish this book or obviously continue the series, no thank you! The only thing good about this was the pretty cover.
What a delicious sexy treat this book is! The book follows, Ivy, a shapeshifting assassin, who’s known as Poison. She catches the attention of the three kings of campus and soon their hookups become something more. But there is a lot of secrets and dueling agendas at play. Ivy is an assassin for The Syndicate but who really is the Syndicate? When Ivy finds out she runs leaving three sexy men determined to get her back. This story moves fast and packs a bunch of heat! It’s a must read for paranormal, why choose fans.
Oh that cliffhanger wasn’t nice. Ok let me start with This is a phenomenal start to this the series. Like wow Poison/Ivy I freaking love. Haven’t read too many shape shifter stories. Omg I loved it. Steam is off the charts. Darker storyline. Love the guys. But now Vex is an interesting character and I so want to know more about him. Overall I am so needing the next book. Amazing story. Definitely recommend over and over!!
This book is amazing and dark but a really good read, I particularly love the spin that Eve put on shapeshifters in this books. Ivy is a FMC that is really strong and the passion in her is really a magnet to her. This ending was a huge cliff which was not nice, but it was such a wonderful read, I loved meeting all of Ivy's guys and VEX, i need him to get his own story.
This is a Supernatural bully assassin book. Ivy is an assassin that goes by Poison. She is a shifter that can change her appearance. Tate Torin and Bram are the kings of Thornfield college and want to use and diacard her but when they discover who she really is things change. With a hit put out on them she must decide if she will complete the mission or follow her heart. With many mystery you will want to know more.
How to explain this book so you want to immediately download it and read?? I just can't put this book into words it is that good! Poison/Ivy is an amazing FMC. She hits you with all sorts of feels! You will LOVE her! The males in this book Tate, Torin, Bram, Ramsey, and even Vex...just wow! I just can't say enough about this book and NEED the next one! Eve, can you stop edging me and let me have my release with the next book Lol!?!?!
The FMC Ivy was interesting and there is a good amount of intrigue regarding her backstory
I really liked this book. Until we got to the spicy GB scene at the end. I know that with a RH you only have so many places that a man can be involved in, but I really did not like the A** to mouth and the mixing of areas that happened in the story. I understand that in the moment people might not think about that, but the scene was a little much for me and there was a lot of this mixing.

well, that was a lot of s#x.. I guess it was okay. but I didn't like the concept of our mfc being a literal shapeahifter.. as in, turn into any woman, and other, that she wanted too.. made all the emotional entanglement feel off.. they met while she was in a disguise.. and used her, a little.. in her other form . made it kind of icky for me.. even though the author tried to rationalize it... didn't work for me..
Eve has out done herself in this first book of 3! One side is Poison that works for the elusive syndicate as an assassin working alongside her best friend and roommate Ramsey! The other side of her is Ivy. In this trilogy Ivy falls for Torin, Tate and Bram. There is plenty of spice and dark plot, with a glorious shopping cart of trigger warnings! It ends on a great cliffhanger.
